I've said this before but I know you have far too many comments to read so maybe this one will be the one. Once you set the hook, stop trying to set it, that's how you lose fish. Set it then slow steady pressure will bring in more fish. If you keep trying to set it the slack between jerks is an opportunity for the fish to get off. If you set then maintain slow steady pressure, the hook will get deeper and more embedded as you reel. Just my $0.02. Loving your videos, Thank You for all of the filming and editing work!
Hi Taku, just a little advice that could one day save your life! If you are going to rely on a dry backpack as a floatation device, which is better than nothing, you should consider wearing it on your chest, not your back. Think about it, if you go into the drink, a backpack worn normally will float you face down taking breathing off your options list😮 Worn on the chest, even if you are knocked unconscious, it will float you face up. 😊
Growing up in Alaska, seen this go down bad as explained. (Backside) never as directed (front side). Give it two minutes, my cousins will chip in about how long ago I moved away....
This may have been said before but it's awesome to see a catch and cook channel where the cook is actually inventive with his meals and executes them well. There's too many catch and cooks where it's like "Well, we caught the fish and now we gonna throw it in this here bag o' fry mix and stick it in some burnin' butter."
its crazy ppl actually consider any fish , or food for that matter "TRASH" , literally if you're living on the land / ocean you eat anything and everything you can. That's why I love your videos.
What? Homeboy only eats best of... No disrespect but Mr California lasts two minutes anywhere Google can't take him. Again. Zero disrespect but consider how hard crossing 8 foot was with two guys (not counting the unspoken film crew). Not a chance. That's cool. No heavies. Let's just be real. Dude isn't shooting footage of stalking stalkers. He catches, prepares and eats fish. That's enough.
The video title is mostly click bait since he never went into details in the video about it. I also noticed when people start comparing America they are referring to white people in America. Its pretty disrespectful for him to make such a bold statement about a whole country like that since America is a melting pot of many different ethnic groups. Also how would Americans know if a fish is trash if is from central America and not even sold in the stores in America?? Don't get me wrong that food looks great but he also is hiding the natural flavor to it by smothering it in seasoning.
The reason why its trash fish is bc if you have access to any fish you want, you'd pick the trash fish laster on the list. Also another problem that contributes to trash fish being considered trash, is not bleeding the fish and processing it right, and or being a trash cook.
@strikerj4810 it's not that hard to cook fish. I don't get it why so many people assume it's because it's not being cooked the right way. If you have to smother it in seasoning and sauce the fish is trash. Fish just needs some olive oil and that's it no need to get all fancy with it.
Never have dragon fruit and passion fruit sauce with sashimi before. I shall try it sometime. That was a gorgeous plate. Love your creative touch. Thnak you.
Deer garden solution: I'm a long long time gardener. Several years ago, I found research info on this very topic. Researched by the National Forest Service. Deer will not jump over between to fences 4 feet tall and 4 feet apart. Yes that's right, the fence doesn't have to be tall. Also I found that if you put up a fishing line deer-chest high off the ground and now and then move it. They walk into it, not knowing what it is and it scares them. Bears hate electric fences. They need to be at their nose Hight and above and below with no grass touching the wire. I looked into this and even wrote to the ranger at Glacier National Park and asked if we could set one up around our tent. With human warning signs, they said we could. Congrats on your new home. PS: look into getting Bio Char and activating it with live Microbes tea bubble bath, and checkout Back to Eden (the right way to do his method), and Charles Dowding no did method. I hope you got this message. Love your show.
Another tip, Tako you should check out the spyderco salt/pacific knives. They are designed to be rust proof, or close to it depending on the steel they use, as some are more stainless than the others. Also the hardware, like screws and pocket clip are made from the same material as well. I would suggest a knife with LC200N blade steel. I use it as my fishing knife and haven't had any rust. I never wipe the blade off or keep up with it and no rust. Gets crazy sharp too. Definitely worth the money.
Gotta come to the Klamath in spring for spring salmon run to see how we do our traditional catch and cook! Sure we can even get you in there using our dipnets.. it’ll be legal cuz what you catch will go to our elders n for ceremonies

Kia ora Taku and Jocelyn. That looked like hard fishing Taku, but what a beautiful spot. Maybe it works better during warmer water and weather. Man the sauce looked amazing. The colour, the texture with the fish made me salivate. You are soooooo good bro. Stay safe .
Build that wood bridge ahead of time several layers a good 3 feet longer would be nice. Was a wonderfully made meal- I'd of liked to see Elton try a filet after you showed him even if off camera. Not often get one on one instruction. Fun video to watch.
it was nice to see a Chemex coffee maker, I've been using one since the mid 70s, and most of my friends think I"m some kind of mad scientist, even after I explain it to them, but they still ask me to make them some coffee ;)
If you're right handed switch the spinning handle to left side !!!! Strong hand should hold rod and weak hand reel's !!!! Try it , it's for spinning rigs only !!! It will make your life better as you cast righty anyways !!
Hey guys. Taku. I think that's a Scotch Bonnet pepper you had and I think the cucumber would've also worked well. Beautiful place there. Enjoy!!👏🏽Memphis, 10🇺🇲
Awesome video, a little concerned when you guys crossed that tide wash. Glad no one was injured. I look forward to the next adventure. As always be well and stay safe .
Damn when that baby african pompano (that what I think it is as well) jumped out that tidal pool I literally LOL. Animals have unparalleled comedic timing.
Seeing the way you fish, and how you switch up tactics to succeed, I KNOW your channel would also succeed and might even blow up if you added some hunting content. If I were you, when I got back to the homestead I would pick me up a hunting license or look up your local laws and see what is required and bag you one of those yard deer!!! It will be easier than hooking a pretty fish lol And tastier in my opinion. Plus, I know you guys live pretty far away from resources and it would help set back some meat in the freezer. Love this type of content so much.
Nice video that fish did not look like a jack cavil looks more like a yellow jack and the meat looks lighter than a jack cavil tanks for the video may God bless you and your family.
Had to be a Trevally. Which we don't have in the US (except Hawaii) we have Crevalle jack. Had you been eating a Jack Crevalle it would have been extra fishy and extra nasty!
Just went out on the california Delta, and the striper is hitting hard in the river system from small to at least 27 to 28 inches, and maybe bigger, too
Waaaait Taku, I really love Jacelyn's dress in this video XD Around 26:30 haha! Could you ask her where she got it from for me? I love the straight neckline and sleeves!
seems like the gopro cams really don't do well with water intrusion - noticed it with your videos as well as Adams. Reminds me of getting an earful of water while/after swimming
That was an awesome episode. We need more with these folks... Love you Taku. Jocelyn, You look so beautiful in a natural environment.. Is no purple hair.. Just my opinion though. Do whatever you want.
I wish you would’ve known what kind of fish that was that you snagged that is a pomelo. It is in the same Pompano and permit family. There’s no size limit and no bag limit. They taste better than a pompano.

It depends on the fish as well. Spotted trout you have to be gental, catfish/ gar you have to set the hook like a man
