How underrated this channel is Me: Yess I remember subscribing to this channel when it was little below 2,000 subscribers, now it's over 1,48,000 subscribers Still way below what Shankar Nath deserve to be (over 1 million easily)
Since I watched the 1st video on this channel I unsubscribed all other channels and never missed a single TH-cam video of this channel. Quality and only quality.
I agree. I wish all Indians speak like this. He does not have any put-on Western accent, but at the same time speaks clearly with a good diction, and a trace of Indian accent - but a nice accent. I am in the UK, and frankly now find it almost impossible to decipher when many of the young Indians speak (particularly the young North Indians), because for whatever reason they seem to think they need to imitate the American/Western accent. But in the process, they end up with a mish-mash and a poor/unclear diction, and worst of all they speak incredibly fast (as if they are an Express train desperate to get out the words out of their mouths as fast as possible). The South Indians are somewhat clearer in their diction, maybe because they do not try to put on a false American accent to the degree some of the young North Indians do. All that the people need to do is speak slowly, and clearly and without putting on any fake accent - just as the gentleman in this video. And it sounds so perfect!
Hi Shankar Nath, just wanted to drop a quick note to say thank you for the incredibly useful videos you create. They've been very helpful and informative. Keep up the fantastic work!
Since you arent a fund manager and we don't care what your resume says, I'm certain many of us would pay you a hefty amount to create a basket of stocks using this method every few weeks/ months. Would you ever consider creating such a smallcase with a fee?
Good video Shankar. Could you make a copy cat for Mutual.Fund portfolios as well? Is it possible? We have so many financial influencers churning out daily bulletins. Forget the skeptics, we trust you! 😅

Thanks Shankar as always with 1. Quality and useful video 2. Sharing not only knowledge but also the work did. Both these characteristics make you one of my most favorite Finance TH-camr. I still can't understand why you are still underrated in terms of subscribers. You should be leading the group honestly. Keep up your good work!
So nice of you, thank you for kind words. Honestly, it's a trick many fall into by measuring a channel on the basis of subscribers. For instance - reaching 1 million subscribers is not that difficult and publishing 1 short a day for 7-8 months or topics like "best mutual fund" will get me there. In my view, this is a problem because in many case, a large non-targeted viewership seeps into the channel and over time, the views start falling. E.g. Rachana (who has done a incredible job over the last 3-4 years) seems to be going through that phase. She's has 48 lakh subscribers, is still clocking 40k subscribers every month but is having only 100k views per day. The reasons can be many although I think it's more of viewer fatigue -- which is something my channel will also go through over time I've been looking at these phases and assessing TH-cam from a viewer & creator perspective has been helpful. My own read is that -- out of the 150k subscribers I have now or wherever I reach, it will come down to just 5-10k loyal fans who will continue with me & subscribe to the valuable services (like newsletter, community, smallcase etc.) I plan to introduce over the months & years. This suits me perfectly as I want to work with & for a smaller number of patrons and do more for them. Infact, let me close this with something I observed recently. So, I've had around 75 1:1 consultation calls and of the 75, only 8 persons had ever posted a comment on my channel. Which means 90% of the people who paid, discussed & got value from those interactions were a part of the silent majority. If I had assumed that only the ones who comment are the loyalists (much like how everyone says "underrated" and "subscribers"), then I would have been wrong. There's a bigger chunk out there and building a participation loop for them has to be my endeavour

Hello Shankar, Can you pls review smallcases in general? As most of the smallcases rebalance on need basics or very often. How does tax play a role when invested amount is large? It might be of lots of use to the viewers as many invest via smallcase these days. Thanks
I can try .. even spoke to Vasant on this a few months back. I had sought some enhanced access but the team couldn't offer it then (and they were right as some of my ask violated the investment advisor's IP). But I can certainly do what you are referring to here. Pls give me a few weeks to get back on this.
Wow, after Aswath Damodaran you are the only financial expert I have seen who shares spreadsheets people can use to replicate and experiment with their process.
Hi Shankar, great video like always. Here is quick tangential question and hope you may please answer - I like the quality of your videos - the way they are presented is just right with voice, commentary and very fine graphics. Just curious what recording devices for audio and video do you use? And any software? Thank you 😊
Thank you very much 🙌 1. Audio recording happens via a regular 700 rupee Boya mic that can be bought on Amazon 2. Video recording is done via a Sony camera (an expensive one .. almost 2 lakhs) that my videographer brings with him. I don't own a camera myself. 3. For editing, the editor uses Adobe Premiere Pro 4. The invisible quotient is the graphics you see on screen. I create that using Powerpoint; slide by slide and the editor replicates it 5. For thumbnails, I use Canva
7:40 - step 6 query Hi Shankar, thanks for the amazing video. My query is that isnt it obviously impossible to get the same or even nearly same entry point as these marquee investors since those points would hav been crossed long back and gloomy chances of looking back in rallying Nifty scenario? Then what should be the entry/exit points?
Most welcome. With re: your query and atleast in my case, I didn't care on finding the "perfect" entry point because if I were to even ask Vijay Kedia, Rekha Jhunjhunwala & others -- these investors aren't going to tell me. My mindset is that information is always imperfect (actually true) and I worked this model based on what & when I receive it. However imperfect, this model gave me 41% CAGR over 2 years against the Nifty 50's 12%
This is the whole practicality which I think can not be cloned exactly in the same time frame as big whales do as there is huge time lag between information coming out publicly and deals actually made.
I really like your content, Shankar. No fluff content conveyed with a sense of humility! I’d definitely consider buying your smallcase based on this strategy if you plan to take that route. Probably, a lot of your viewers feel this way
Awesome, thank you! 🙌 Smallcases have some regulatory hurdles that need to be crossed. Many think it's the registration but it's the maintenance part which is an overkill by the regulator. I'll certainly go for it i.e. smallcase & the pre-registration once SEBI makes it easier for people like me to do business. I'll keep you & all posted on my newsletter & community post
Its my first time watching your video and your video is very clear and informative. I subscribed and i dont know i will use your shared sheet but i want to appreciate your effort and i can understand ypur research how intense. Thanks i will share your video to some of friends
It never struck that I should copy the big investors' early bets on these small and midcaps...I made my own set of rules and followed blindly...I will experiment with this when I have some cash to spare and will update you here if Im able to make any good returns..
Very good content Shankar, thanks for this and even the spreadsheet. It is very informative. Appreciate and love your contents as always. Very good perspective. Never imagined with copycat strategy one can create huge returns, as most of it are small cap or micro cap at times like now, it will fall brutally. Investor to have bigger stomach to hold it for 5-10Yrs.
I have 1 doubt- Here's what I think, these marquee investors invest in all types of companies and not only small caps but holding >1% in small cap requires much lesser capital as compared to large cap, that's why the data showed mostly smaller companies. Am I correct? If so, is there any way to determine their holdings in large cap companies where they probably hold less than 1%?
You are so underrated! Your content is exceptional, and I resonate deeply with it. I have occasionally emulated investors without hesitation, and it has proven to be successful. However, when I share this approach with others, they often raise concerns about dependency on someone else. While this perspective holds merit, I see no issue in persisting with this strategy. In various aspects of our lives, such as health, career, and law, we rely on expert advice. why not apply the same principle to personal finance? :)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked this video. In my view, the general human behaviour (inspite of what one says) is to a) either work towards an output or b) pay for advice. That's why DIY investing or managed investing via MF, PMS, smallcase, advisor works well. The cloning strategy is outside the scope of both approaches i.e. it doesn't require much work nor is someone pushing us or enforcing a transaction/advice on us. I feel that's why most people think twice before using screeners, cloning and similar approaches. Plus, there is the fear factor point i.e. "what if I am wrong". Which is strange because everyone's relatively OK if "the fund manager is wrong" and we all have a natural recourse in villifying the fund manager or exiting the fund (but beyond that we can't do much)
In step 5 you mentioned about clean up and paying attention to when the investment was initially made and when the investor took an exit. My question is what if the investor had bought and sold the stock on different intervals - The price on each date would be considered or you took an average or something to calculate the returns? Also, if you used the buying and selling price to calculate the returns then what role did price over last 8 quarters play?
1. I used the price on specific dates i.e. 31-03-2022, 30-06-2022 and so on 2. I didn't understand the question on "role of price", can you pls elaborate?
Friends, I am new to investing and loved the simplicity of this video. However, I am finding it difficult to understand where to start as in which videos to watch from Shankar’s channel as a beginner? I will appreciate the help of this community 👍
@@shankarnath Thank you Shankar. What you are doing here is worth appreciating and I wish you more power👍 I will definitely view the playlists that you hyperlinked. However, I have another question. Have you made a video on investing for NRI investors? There is a huge interest to invest in India but the majority of the people I know find it challenging to understand the dynamics.
@@ryansood2651 No. I haven't made any video for NRIs specifically. That's because the techniques/schemes/portfolio I would hint at for expats would be the same as I'd have a resident Indian consider. But yes -- NRIs will have queries on taxation, repatriation etc. which is best answered by a tax advisor/CA. I'm not really good at that. My apologies
Quick question and maybe I missed this in the video: How does one access the investment corpus/details of publicly known investors? Their websites? Or... somewhere else?
Shankar, your knowledge, research, presentation and vocabulary are superb. Not just this video but everyone of them. I got some great insights from some of your earlier videos and take this opportunity to thank you.
can you do a video where instead of percentage share holding you take the total invested amount against the amount invested in that company and then pick top 5-6 companies
Thank you - this is very helpful and appreciate your good work @shankarnath sir... appreciate you going that extra mile and making the spreadsheet available for amateurs and beginners like me. Regards
You are always creative with deep perceptions of each content... very informative. By the way regarding chemicals sector part 2 video is still pending 😅 - kind reminder
Hi sir , I have 2 questions: 1. Do you pick stocks from 1 investor or from multiple investors? 2. The last 1 year was too good for small and midcap, so do you think this might be the reason for high accuracy rate and high returns?
Hello: 1. Kindly examine the worksheet 2. Yes, the market was kind to small and midcaps. Having said this, it's important to measure one strategies performance with a comparative benchmark & I took the Quant Small Cap Fund to base the performance
Absolutely Amazing!!! Quite a practical approach to the stock picking... But I think the returns would drastically reduce in assumption 3 is accounted for (Delay in receipt of shareholding change data)... I believe it would be very close to actively managed small cap funds..
Hey Shankar, how did you calculate the entry and exit points in your sheet? Is there a source or an automated way, or did you enter each value manually?
@shankarnath nice framework Sir! As a fellow skeptic myself, could you confirm how frequently the information regarding shareholding pattern (more than 1%) rule is updated in NSE or BSE?
Listed entities are required to submit their shareholding pattern to the stock exchanges within 21 days of the end of each quarter in formats prescribed under the circulars. www.sebi.gov.in/legal/circulars/jun-2022/disclosure-of-holding-of-specified-securities-and-holding-of-specified-securities-in-dematerialized-form_60459.html
Hi Shankar, I liked your video. Excellent returns from your shameless portfolio and not so shameless but great returns.. Will you be using this to invest some real money as well. That would be great. I am looking at your google sheet. Cheers.
This is fantastic. Such a detailed video. Are you planning to update the sheet every month? Would definitely want to learn more about investing in stocks and growing my wealth. Have been watching your videos often and the content quality is fantastic. I wish I can become so knowledgeable like you one day :)
Glad you liked it! I'm working on building monetizing loops and one idea I want to pursue is to offer an updated stock list of all strategies I've shared thus far incl. shameless portfolio. I'll have something by Jan/Feb of next year.
Thank you! Incidentally, I met someone who runs a business where a creator can generate and offer shares to anyone who wants to buy them. Let's say he's valued (don't know how) that his "business" is worth 10 crores and it's broken down to 10 lakh shares of 100 rupees each. So he can offer 20% i.e. 2 lakh shares to the public and the person buying gets advantage of capital appreciation and receive some dividends which is a % of profits generated. I haven't given much thought to it but as a concept, this seems interesting.
I saw the worksheet, so should we invest in the 50 stocks given...and what will the quarterly update tell...when to exit or continue being in the stock... Kindly clarify.
Hi Shankar, this is a very interesting video and it was fun to follow along. I wonder if you could elaborate on the choice of entry and, more particularly, exit points. What pointers would you give to keep subjectivity to a minimum? By the way, I used largely the same stocks but with different exit points in many cases. This gave an IRR of 32.8%. I hope to investiigate the data set further such as looking at your suggested variations. Thanks for an enjoyable exercise.
Hello. Glad you liked it Subjectivity can be reduced massively if one reads the companies featured and forms ones own views. For instance, in the case of Ashish Kacholia -- I agree with a few picks of his like Garware Hi-Tech Films. I even featured it in my newsletter. However I don't agree with his selling "Sky Gold" at around 2,600 rupees. I felt there's a lot more scope there (again featured in the newsletter) and inspite of me buying it at 2,800 -- its at 4,380 now .. in a matter of 2 months. Exit points are simple. When the reasons for entry no longer exist, it's time to exit. For example - I've pulled out from PSP Projects, KRBL and a few more over the last 6 months when I saw underlying weaknesses on multiple factors. 1-2 quarters of issues is OK but there were some rancid decaying in fundamentals which didn't appeal to me.

However imperfect, this model gave me 41% CAGR over 2 years against the Nifty 50's 12%
sir can u clarify how we would know when the big whales entered and exited and how can we copy them in the same time frame or point of time ??
I have the same question
This is the whole practicality which I think can not be cloned exactly in the same time frame as big whales do as there is huge time lag between information coming out publicly and deals actually made.
The amount of research and dedicated work you and your team does for each video is top notch ,,, thank you
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you like my work
Sir can I have the latest sheet , or the link from where can I download it quarter on quarter
Great pleasure sir , making smooth knowledge transfer with data. But, can't find the worksheet sir.
Thanks. Did you check for the link in the description?
Shankarji, Thank you very much. As always, very informative content presented in a very succinct manner!
Most welcome, Piyush ji. I'm glad you liked it
So much of effort to make this video to simplify concept . Thanks a lot Mr.Shankar. These are innovations on finance/investments
Thank you so much! 🙌 I am glad you liked this video, found it informative
Awesome video
I started doing it recently and seeing your video is just a cross confirmation to me. I liked it so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Great work, shankar. Thanks for this wonderful content ... appreciate your efforts
So nice of you. My pleasure 🙌
Welcome aboard! I'm glad you like my work
Excellent job man👍…. Day by day your videos showing us how much deep study you are doing… 👍 great
Thank you very much 🙌
It never struck that I should copy the big investors' early bets on these small and midcaps...I made my own set of rules and followed blindly...I will experiment with this when I have some cash to spare and will update you here if Im able to make any good returns..
Pls do share your results
Something quite different .. The content is very useful and like the approach. Thank you for your hard work
Most welcome. I'm glad you liked this analysis.
Very creative idea and very well presented
Thank you very much 🙌
Very good content Shankar, thanks for this and even the spreadsheet. It is very informative. Appreciate and love your contents as always. Very good perspective. Never imagined with copycat strategy one can create huge returns, as most of it are small cap or micro cap at times like now, it will fall brutally. Investor to have bigger stomach to hold it for 5-10Yrs.
My pleasure, glad you found it informative
Good video brother, you have explained complex things in understandable manner.

I have 1 doubt-
Here's what I think, these marquee investors invest in all types of companies and not only small caps but holding >1% in small cap requires much lesser capital as compared to large cap, that's why the data showed mostly smaller companies.
Am I correct?
If so, is there any way to determine their holdings in large cap companies where they probably hold less than 1%?
I haven't come across a source which will list all their investments
The content in your channel is always informative.Thankyou
Most welcome!
Something new . Well done !
Thanks!
Amazing work, it's not as easy as you depicted... cheers!
Thank you very much!
Thanks Shankar for brining another Star and Congrats for 18K Subscribers
Thank you so much 🙌
You are so underrated!
31-03-2022, 30-06-2022 and so on
2. I didn't understand the question on "role of price", can you pls elaborate?
Friends, I am new to investing and loved the simplicity of this video. However, I am finding it difficult to understand where to start as in which videos to watch from Shankar’s channel as a beginner? I will appreciate the help of this community 👍
I have created playlists based on varied viewer interest. Pls have a look: www.youtube.com/@shankarnath/playlists
Quick question and maybe I missed this in the video:
How does one access the investment corpus/details of publicly known investors? Their websites? Or... somewhere else?
It's there in the video. Kindly watch the process there, thx!
Shankar, your knowledge, research, presentation and vocabulary are superb. Not just this video but everyone of them. I got some great insights from some of your earlier videos and take this opportunity to thank you.
Thank you very much Mr. Arun for your kind appreciation and warm words
Thank you so much for the Analysis and Information 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Most welcome
Absolute gem of a man who always brings in the best content.
Thank you so much
can you do a video where instead of percentage share holding you take the total invested amount against the amount invested in that company and then pick top 5-6 companies
Thanks for the suggestion
Thank you - this is very helpful and appreciate your good work @shankarnath sir... appreciate you going that extra mile and making the spreadsheet available for amateurs and beginners like me. Regards
So nice of you. You are more welcome 🙌
Great work... Immense knowledge.... Thank you Shankarnath ji.... But only wish is, please make more and more videos and do different stock analysis
Thank you for the suggestion & appreciation
Thank you sir
First time visited ur page

Welcome aboard!

This was the best informative video and entertaining video so far .. Thank you so much
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great ji, u have variety content & educative too.😊
So nice of you. Thanks!
You are always creative with deep perceptions of each content... very informative.
By the way regarding chemicals sector part 2 video is still pending 😅 - kind reminder
Many thanks for the reminder
Wow you are genius strategy to look into for small investors
Thank you very mych 🙌
Excellent video Sir. Thank you very much.
You are most welcome
I am a shameless cloner too...and I'm proud of it.
Your presentation skills are amazing
Thanks a lot 😊
Hi sir ,
I have 2 questions:
1. Do you pick stocks from 1 investor or from multiple investors?
2. The last 1 year was too good for small and midcap, so do you think this might be the reason for high accuracy rate and high returns?
Hello:
1. Kindly examine the worksheet
2. Yes, the market was kind to small and midcaps. Having said this, it's important to measure one strategies performance with a comparative benchmark & I took the Quant Small Cap Fund to base the performance
can you do a followup vedio on shameless cloning which has less variables (can expect lesser returns too) so that we can try this out as a swing bets
Thanks for the suggestion
Absolutely Amazing!!! Quite a practical approach to the stock picking... But I think the returns would drastically reduce in assumption 3 is accounted for (Delay in receipt of shareholding change data)... I believe it would be very close to actively managed small cap funds..
Thanks! If you have any data, research or actual experience around the delay point, pls do share.
Do u have hedge fund? If u dont have, u should have it! Ur the best!
Sorry, I don't have one. Personally, I'm not keen on fund management
@@shankarnath Ahhh okay sir. I just think if you have a hedge fund it will be a great fund management.
Thank you for sharing! Much appreciated 😊 How did you determine ‘marquee investors’?
Most welcome. The process has been explained in the video
Hey Shankar, how did you calculate the entry and exit points in your sheet? Is there a source or an automated way, or did you enter each value manually?
Hello, I did it manually
Dear Shankar great video. Could make a sequel for retail mutual fund investors? I will PM you a few thoughts.
Thank you Yatin sir. Yes, please email me .. always a pleasure reading your detailed notes 🙌
@@shankarnath Sure
Thanks for being honest and sharing your learnings with the world. God bless 👍
My pleasure!

Thank you so much 🙂
Dear Sir, This is the best video I have ever seen on TH-cam.
Wow, thanks! 🙌
@shankarnath nice framework Sir! As a fellow skeptic myself, could you confirm how frequently the information regarding shareholding pattern (more than 1%) rule is updated in NSE or BSE?
Listed entities are required to submit their shareholding pattern to the stock exchanges within 21 days of the end of each quarter in formats prescribed under the circulars. www.sebi.gov.in/legal/circulars/jun-2022/disclosure-of-holding-of-specified-securities-and-holding-of-specified-securities-in-dematerialized-form_60459.html
@shankarnath won't these transactions show up in bulk/block deals also?
@@themobiledev Change in shares will show up in bulk deals, but then one has to calculate the shareholding % separately
Hi Shankar, I liked your video. Excellent returns from your shameless portfolio and not so shameless but great returns.. Will you be using this to invest some real money as well. That would be great. I am looking at your google sheet. Cheers.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it
This is fantastic.
If we have an option to invest in any particular TH-cam channel, I would have invested in this channel with 100% allocation. Target : 1 Million 🤩
Interesting sir..

I saw the worksheet, so should we invest in the 50 stocks given...and what will the quarterly update tell...when to exit or continue being in the stock...
Kindly clarify.
You'll have to figure out if to exit or enter or remain invested looking at the data.
Hello. Glad you liked it
Subjectivity can be reduced massively if one reads the companies featured and forms ones own views.
Great information shared by you and it leads towards economic growth. 🎉 Thanks alot 🏆👍
Glad it was helpful! My pleasure
Sir this video is a gem, hence I purchased a Rs 100 Thanks for you, cant find the qorksheet
Hello, the worksheet link is in the video's description
