    At what outside temperature/climate is it recommended to use the engine heater/heater cord?

    Im a strong believer in engine heaters ! I have both a katz aftermarket coolant heater and a 200watt oil pan heater ! Instant heat and oil pressure ! this also saves alot of fuel ! and also the battery and washer solvent tank stays warm also !

      Hey, would you say the oil pan heater does as good or better of a job as a block heater? My SUV came without a lock heater and I thought of getting an oil pan heater instead since it's cheaper and easier to install.

      @@nukey555 ya ! I would go with the highest wattage you can get and most are magnetic so if you have a cast pan you would have to improvise ! Like using jb weld and a thin piece of steel ! my daily has a pan heater and a remote heater next to the battery !

    Syntetic oil, engine block heater, engine oil pan heater, battery heater must be used for the extrem cold weather. Any kind of engine heating will be nice for start engine. And a 60w bulb put inside of the engine room will be a great idea during the night.

    I love that Jeff keeps the energy level up outside in that weather... talking about engine block heaters. I thought about adding one of these to my order... but I got a heated garage 👍👍👍

    I personally like the cord under the hood. Pull it out a bit and leave it hang all winter. My work truck had that lower clip to plugin, hated it. Nothing like getting on your knees at minus 35 to plug in

    In essence, the thermostat plug is the worst thing GM has done for their products. I wanna use the heater when I want to, what a stupid idiotic thing they have done, Im never buying GM again

    Good idea having a dedicated spot to plug the vehicle in, however all the vehicles today are coming with this. The problem is that I am almost 75 yrs young, but when you have bad knees and or hips you have to craw down to the ground to plug it in and the connector that only goes in one way. At nite you cannot see how to do this, you need a flash light on your forehead and that is ridiculous. I had to lay down in the snow and find a channel to come and feed the cord out under the hood anyway. Now I can use it. Tell those wonderful engineers to design a higher spot for the cord. Sometimes you get your good cloths dirty crawling around trying to find that plug. I love my truck but hate the plugin. Mel PS sorry Jeff you touched a very sore spot.

      And there should be a way to plug in other accessories to the block heater circuit such as an oil pan pad and battery warmer, down low like that was stupid cause I encounter first problem it froze solid before I even got to plug-in (rapid snowfall in 24 hours from +10 to -20C (Yukon Territory)

    I have a 21 baby duramax and I plug it in if it’s below -10 Celsius (usually plug all our vehicles in then), but what your saying is it doesn’t start heating until it reaches minus 18? I can tell you the little duramax sounds equally disgruntled cold starting without being plugged in between -10 and -30.

    • @anthonyc1883
      @anthonyc1883 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, not sure I like that there's a thermostat deciding when to turn the block heater on. I think it's perfectly useful to run a block heater when the temps are in the teens and single digits.

    That is a cool feature but is it standard? I remember all GM vehicles sold in Canada from the late 80's to mid 2000's had block heaters as standard equipment. But they eliminated that at some point. Best tip I remember reading many years ago and I still think of it today was that starting an engine when the temperature outside is -20 ( 0 F ) causes as much wear as driving 500 miles. That might be less true today with the better (thinner) oils but there could still be some truth to it. My car doesn't have a block heater but I can park inside on very cold nights so I don't cause wear lol. Modern cars are amazing at starting in the cold though, they basically just start right up without a problem even at -25 --30. GM's have always been awesome at cold starting, the best heaters and the best air conditioning too.

    Hey Jeff quick question!
    I bought a used 2021 series and found that it has a block heater plug but it didn’t come with any block heater cable. Would a normal extension cord plug or do I need a specific plug for it? Thanks!
