Sorry to hear about your stroke, but glad you are recovering! I did a video on braiding tshirts. It is less strenuous on my back and shoulders because it sits on my lap. You may want to try that. Good idea. Looks like a nice rug. I would be leary of using jute for the warp. Natural fiber cordage like jute breaks down fast. I would use a nylon or polyester instead.
Hello . Very interesting loom frame. Just made a small version. One thing when your husband made it , the thing not clear is how far the eyelet has to be away from the first nail on either side . Also can you also use this method for making blankets and scarves. Thank you
You will want the eyelets a minimum of a couple of inches from the ends with the nails - otherwise your fingers can't get in there. You can use the loom to make most anything!!
For cheep but good quality paracord you should look at military surplus stores. Usually go for the ones on the spool because they will work with you on pricing. If you get just get the 10 yrs they can be a little more pricey.
So just a question??? If you're making a rug lime the twine one, where you flip the loom end for end and work towards the middle. Are your strings/warp going to b off when you get to joining in the middle of the rug?
You are correct!! The same thing will happen if you don't flip the loom over, at the end you will have to go through different warps so that your weaving won't slip off.

I have a question... If you wanted to make a large rug are you able to make several smaller ones and then weave them together to make one large one? How would you make one say 4x6 ft. or even larger? A loom that big would be really hard to make and have space for etc..
I love this rug. What was the weight of the parachord you used? I looked on Amazon at parachord and they show 550, 650, 750 LBs. I guess that is the thickness of the cord? Also, how would you clean this rug? Vacuum, I assume, as it doesn't seem like it could be washed. Thanking you in advance for your answer. I apologize, I don't know the size I used for this one. Since it wasn't going to be under pressure and not need weight bearing strength, I selected the most economical option. I have washed this in the wash machine on delicate and line dried it - it worked wonderfully! Have fun - we use this rug daily at our door - it has really held up nicely!
Hi! I've made the loom and now want to, of course, start weaving. You mentioned mixing twine, hemp, polished hemp and paracord and I was hoping to see your recommendations for each in the notes. (Amazon, Walmart, etc all haveva LOT of variety, but the size of each varies greatly. Can you mix 3 mm jute with 2 mm hemp? Is any paracord size too thick?) Finally, as I was trying to calculate cost (being uncertain of which to buy,) I realized one could end up with quite a cost if not careful. Hints or suggestions on the most cost effective way to purchase materials (and I'm hoping not to have to go to many different stores to gather needed supplies)?
Paracord is by far the most expensive - twine is least expensive. Walmart and Amazon had the best Paracord price. This rug can become costly if you don't shop around! Have fun!

If my material that I was using was thinner, maybe I would do one warp -- I guess, also going over two gives is a more defined pattern. Absolutely, both would work!!

you can get all the material from Home Depot, the loom I built was 25" x 45", I'd suggest you make one about 1/2 my size, start small, get used to the weaving, really follow what DIY on the house instructs, you can do this

I really wish you hadn't told me about paracord, I just love to work with this material NOW - I have to make a rug from 550 paracord!! that's ok, but, before I get to the 550 PC, I'm making a smaller loom, to make rug gifts for christmas, once thats all completed, then its on to a 550 Paracord rug. Gifts first though. I wonder, if on the back side of any rug, to put on a few blobs of clear silicone as an anti slip function? Jezz thinking out loud..

I watched your video of you and your husband making a loom, and have been contemplating making this rug at an 8x10 size using your loom and this twine/parachord tutorial. Am I crazy to attempt something that large or do you think that is feasible using your techniques?
Glad you are excited!! This rug has held up fantastically - it is on one of the busiest doors on our house! I think 8x10 is pretty big, and pretty cool, but it would cost quite a bit in material. You may have to consider reinforcing a loom that big. Let me know what you decide!

Yes - it is stiff. It makes more of a welcome mat - very durable! I haven't washed this one yet. I feel like it will wash well. might this work for you, when I go to cooking demo's, they have mirrors placed at angles, easier for the audience to see what going on, I don't know if you are doing this, have a large monitor or TV hooked up to the camera, that way you can see what the camera is 'seeing' while your instructing. Just a suggestion, use or dump, give doggies a treat from me..
It is crazy how much there is to learn on the video taping.... always trying new things! Those pups, jealous little things. They could tell I wasn't talking to them so they needed to be in the fun!

For keeping my rows straight, right after I warp the loom I take a quilters square and mark off parallel lines about 3” apart. Sharpie or pencil - it doesn’t show through at all. And, as you do in this video, I weave from both ends and meet in the middle. Again, thank you!

The crochet hook is just used to pull threads through the warp cords. You need to make sure that cords go through each warp, otherwise they will slide off.

@@bthom6302 You are just using the crochet hook to weave the fabric through. The thing you need to focus on, before you take it off of the loom, you need to make sure you weave under the nail on each end of the rug. One time I didn't start a rug that way, so I took my crochet hook and looped fabric in between each warp, under the nails, to make sure I didn't loose my rug. If that doesn't help, let me know, I love questions!!
This rug is so pretty! I'd love to make one for my lanai. Hopefully I will get the loom made soon! It looks like you used a variety of thicknesses of twine to create this with no trouble. How long did it take for you to complete the rug? Curious because twine doesn't work up the quickest.
It was a super fun rug to make!! As far as time - a fabric rug usually takes me a week or so of weaving during tv time at night - this one took a little longer, but not much, because I can make my strings pretty long and it was really easy to work with! Have fun with your project!

Have you tried a curved needle for the slip stitching? As an ex nurse we sutured using a curved needle and forceps (pliers ) .

I am glad! The rods are usually in the fastener department at the hardware store, ask for 1/8" steel rods. Let me know how your project goes!

It looks like you used a variety of thicknesses of twine to create this with no trouble. How long did it take for you to complete the rug? Curious because twine doesn't work up the quickest.
It was a super fun rug to make!! As far as time - a fabric rug usually takes me a week or so of weaving during tv time at night - this one took a little longer, but not much, because I can make my strings pretty long and it was really easy to work with! Have fun with your project!

You use about 3 yards at a time to weave - and then join them. It turned out super cool!!
