    Everything about this video is dramatic, the skies, the music, the trains that we don't see closer to home!

    Hi Simon Great stuff, full of dramatic music and tense 'will he, won't he' make it feeling, looking forward to the next one. Thanks

    Brilliant video Cyber, the stations along the highland main line do look nice and the scenery looks breathtaking as well. I find it quite interesting that you use steps to get on and off the train at Dunkeld and Birnam. Looking forward to part 2. :)

    Gosh, one of my Southern region 73s hard at work and this one way up in Scotland on the prestigious working. They really the unsung superstars of the originals diesel and electric BR locomotives.

    Great video! The Highland Mainline definitely needs improvements done to it, it definitely needs more than one train every two hours and probably shouldn't be single track, especially as the parallel A9 is having a lane added

    Excellent vlog, Simon! Blair Atholl and the Atholl Arms Hotel looked familiar, but I think that's from a model rail layout of the area that I've seen. Looking forward to the second part of the challenge and hope it went well!

      Thanks barrowc, There was a model railway layout that was at Model Railway Scotland named Blair Atholl Towards Drumochter. Did filmed that one for the model channel: th-cam.com/video/4cGOFEWRmlI/w-d-xo.html

      Thank you, It be the only area to see HSTs after 2023 as GWR will be keeping some as standby and XC are getting rid of theirs next month.

    Blimey, what an early start! But I guess it was worth it to capture that sunrise and morning light in the highlands :) And the Highland Main Line is no joke, you just can't comprehend how long it actually is and how lengthy the journeys are until you travel on it - I remember when I did the Highland Chieftain up from London Kings Cross, I remember getting to Perth and thinking, not far to go now to Inverness - and it was another 2-3 hours IIRC!! And that was a semi-fast train not stopping at every station like you did here. Great work!
    Also, I see in a comment you mentioned about using the 4 in 8 Spirit of Scotland Rover ticket, how did you get that? Did you have to go to a ticket office to get it? :)

    • @Sim0nTrains
      @Sim0nTrains  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks AJ, The rover ticket I did get from a ticket office, I got it on Saturday from the ticket office in Dundee about 10 to 15 minutes after I arrived on the Caledonian Sleeper (Don't get a seat.... no chance for sleep) But used the ticket for the four days I was up there. Think you can also get it online as well. But one thing I didn't mentioned that it did take a good five minutes as the person behind the counter couldn't find it as it was change from Freedom of Scotland to Sprit of Scotland Rover.

    Fantastic video, Simon. I’ve done the west highland line years ago but would love to do some of the other lines. Some of these stations are in the middle of nowhere aren’t they? Lovely scenery!

    If I may ask....Did you use a rover/ranger ticket? 👍🙂

    • @Sim0nTrains
      @Sim0nTrains  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ian, I used a 4 day Spirit of Scotland Rover, I picked it up on the day when I did the Dundee and Perth Railway, Came off the sleeper, did my parts for the video and then went to the ticket office to get that rover ticket. It was the same ticket I used for the Inverness first Railway video and the video I've filmed the day after the Highland Main Line.

    The ScotRail Class 43 “Inter7City” HSTs are very reliable trains that ScotRail should keep them. They are still the best rolling stock in the UK. And of course the Caledonian Sleeper Mk5/Mk5A coaches are very nice.

      I had 4 days in Scotland. Saturday to Tuesday but I go for rover tickets. the Spirit of Scotland Rover which can cover you for four days out of eight or eight days out of fifteen, The four in Eight Day Rover cost £98.35 with a Railcard but since this was filmed on a Monday, cannot use it till a certain time so I did pay a single from Inverness to Kingussie, think it was only £7 but the staff were okay with using my rover ticket before it officially kicked in.
