Excellent review and commentary, enticing viewers to "do the trip". You have just convinced us, to ditch the car and do a weekend trip, by train. Thank you.
I couldn't help but notice the apparent contradiction between the announcement at 10.27 mentioning social distancing and apologising to people that they may have somebody sitting next to them as they have 'quite a few people getting on' and car 3 not being in use due to low patronage! The train looks very nice and the legroom also looks good.
Because unless you want to rely on taxi services who charge $14 before you even get in don’t show up for booking and the very little amount of Uber drivers down south for transport, it’s a lot easier and cheaper to use your own car. It’s not like the city where you can just walk to things you want to see. Most things aren’t even in the towns like Bunbury, Busselton or Margaret river
At this point lm just hanging for the "Pie Review" 🥧!! I look forward to it as much as the Train review. Thanks for another great train trip and everything l need to know plus more. The aquarium looked awesome👍
Well hello Mr Ding 👋 Nice smooth ride, the seat spacing and lack of background people's noise was awesome lol but seriously loved the aquarium soooo much! Fun fact I heard the other day.. octopus 🐙 have 3 hearts and bleed blue blood 😉
This service actually looks like a pretty good way to travel between Perth and Bunbury! I really like the recline feature in the seats a lot. I'm positive I've had one of those Four'n'Twenty pies before, I didn't like too much from what I can remember. That chicken roll also looks good. Looks like an good train service and I would love to do it when WA opens up to the east coast! Great video Rory!
Thanks Rory - a really great introduction to the Australind and Bunbury. I think the interior of the carriages look really good for a train that is already slated for replacement....well done Trans WA!
Hi Rory, this was my first time watching one of your videos. As a Perth local, I absolutely loved it! Throughout the video, I found myself pausing it to appreciate just how much work went into creating something of such high quality - it was so informative. Because of you, I am going to take a trip on the Australind. Looking forward to your next video! Thanks :)
Another great video Rory. My wife and I took a flight from Sydney to Tokyo on Monday the 8th Nov JAL - JL 52. The JAL 787 Dreamliner can accommodate 186 passengers. There were a total of 11 passengers on board. Three in Business and 7 in Economy. Needless to say the service was exceptional. Japan isn't currently accepting tourists so hence the low number. By the way I think you're spot on about the Mrs. macs pies vs Four n Twenty. happy travels.
Another great vid. I liked your description of Optus Stadium and its station. Also, interesting that the Four N' Twenty they served was a Chunky Angus rather than their classic pie... probably because the Chunky Angus is similar to Mrs Macs Famous, and they're trying to preserve some kind of uniformness.
Great vid! Brings back memories, I took the Australind (probably same rolling stock!) in 2002, whilst backpacking. Arrived into Bunbury one evening but all hostels were full - there was an international youth athletics event or something - so my mate and I waited up overnight at the old station, now bus terminal, for the first bus in the morning to Busselton!
Just watched first time on your trips...I came to Perth from Sydney, did quite a few long train trips over east and I actually got to enjoy the different trains and what they had to offer on board. I did a trip from Adelaide to Sydney back in late 90s, I live in Perth now so I'm going to explore different places and I'm looking forward to go to Bunbury and Kalgoorlie by train. Your video content is very informative and enjoy the extra tourist spots. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Rory. An excellent and informative review. You seem to have though of all the questions, all the option, and "ifs & buts'. A Travel Reviewer and a very thoughtful one!
Thanks for the video Rory :) I've lived in Perth my whole life and always wanted to travel on the Australind..... but always wondered how to get around Bunbury once we've arrived.... thanks to your video which was very informative, we've figured out that we can get to the Visitor Information Centre by the free shuttle bus.... so now my family are planning a trip on the Australind soon. Thank you, you have a new subscriber :) Don, Perth WA (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)
Thank you for subscribing! Yes there’s always the shuttle bus to get to the city! 😊😊 I think next time on the way back I’ll try to catch the coach to Mandurah then catch the train back to Perth
I've taken the Australind from Brunswick Junction into Perth and it was a pretty pleasant trip, and being able to transfer directly to transperth service was super handy.
This can be a good day trip from Perth. The courtesy bus at Bunbury drops off in the centre of town which is at the old train station. A couple of hours for a walk around Bunbury and lunch before the bus back to the train for the trip back to Perth.
Thank you for a most comprehensive and well articulated video of the Australind train trip to Bunbury you have made me want to do this trip thanks Rory
Yes but the Australind was built before the Xplorer and the xplorers weren’t built by comeng. (I’m only comparing the carriages not the loco. You can see the body, the doors and the ceilings are very identical) The layout though I have to say is very similar to xplorer
Lovely review as always, it does look a bit like NSW XPT but I think the Australind has nicer seats. The dolphin centre looks great too, loved the footage of the octopus.
I’ve been on this train 4 times, it’s actually my favourite train I have traveled on over the years. Such a shame it keeps getting taken out of service, I hope time flies and that we can get the new train
Wonderful video Rory. Hopefully the Australind gets a new and better train in the future, as well as upgrades to the line itself. I was left disappointed that the Hotham Valley Railway at Pinjarra was not mentioned. But overall it was a wonderful journey.
I love this! It was interesting looking at Perth Station (Love how Platform 3 is in like it's own separate room from the other platforms) and it was also Interesting to see the Train. Doesn't look too over-the-top but get's the Job Done. Just a few other things: 1. Are you going to do a review when the New Trains arrive? (I presume you will. Just Checking, Though. 2. Are you going to make a Discord Server? I know you're probably not but it's a great way to chat with fans of the your Videos and do alot of other fun things. Once Again, Amazing Video as always and I can't wait to see what else you have in-store.
Yagan Square was opened to great fanfare and taxpayer money a few years ago and has quickly become a white elephant. Almost all the tenants have left and the Government is trying to find a large tenant such a micro brewer to take it over. Enjoyed your video. I first travelled on the Australind in 1967. Back then they used the old timber carriages
I can remember when Perth railway station was ruled by diesels. Then along come the electrics which operated alongside one another for until late 1992 early 1993.
I don't think the train has a striking resemblance to the XPT but it vaguely looks like the Endeavours. Also,I wish WA opens up more regional railway lines apart from this and the Prospector. There are so many cities and towns in WA that no longer have rail access.I wish for more railways in WA.

@@RoryDing Update to the replacement of the Australind. It was delayed and due to come into service in 2023. However, with the Perth to Armadale line closing late 2023 for 18 months of major upgrades, it is highly likely that they won't run the new Australind Railcar sets until 2025
Those Hot Chicken Rolls are REALLY GOOD. If you buy a Coles Macaroni and Cheese Frozen meal along with one of those rolls, it's a really nice meal and fills me up
Hey Rory,The Australind does not really look like the XPT train but it looks like the Xplorer that runs between Sydney,Broken Hill,Armidale,Moree and Canberra The Australind windows however looks like the Xplorer and XPT But the front looks like the xplorer the seats also looks so similar with the XPT and Xplorer

Simplicity is good designing regarding these small railway stations in Australia, and their less parking show's that they don't want to waste money without any reason.
I actually caught the train to Bunbury last Friday. It took abount 2.20 hrs. Sadly its night time (depart Perth station 5.55 pm arrive Bunbury 8.20 pm) and i cant see much view both side.
I must say this has to be one of the most on time regional services in Australia, for comparison QR trains such as the Spirit of the Outback (which you’ve reviewed), Westlander (which you’ve also reviewed) and the Inlander (you reviewed that one too) are often late due to prioritisation for freight trains, as well as aging rollingstock
Thanks for this video. I have a daughter in Bunbury and was there about the same time as you were. I was going to catch the coach from the airport as it seemed easiest for someone who doesn't know Perth at all. I might be brave next time and try the train now. Thanks Rory.
Thanks Rory for another interesting travel video! I wanted to do this rail trip myself when I visited Perth in 2009, but they had substitute bus service at the time.
Your vlog made us homesick for Perth (and one of us is German, so you've clearly done well there!!). Greetings from Berlin!
Thank you!! Hopefully you’d be able to visit Perth soon!
Excellent review and commentary, enticing viewers to "do the trip".

Rory, another fun and informative video.
I dunno why more people don't use this train. It's better than driving and cheaper.
Because with cars it's much more convinient.... Plus once you get down there, you will need a car to get around!

Thanks again Rory. Really liked your sense of humour about the food on the train. Also loved the film of the fish and the seahorses towards the end.

Nice to see some of the local scenery. I live in Donnybrook and have been on the Australind once, many years ago.
Having travelled by car "down south" multiple times and also taken the Australind; the Australind is much more pleasant. 😆

keep up these videos you are the best
Agreed, Train is most Definately more relaxed & comfortable than coach.
Hey, so that's what Bunbury looks like, never found an occasion to head down that way.
Great video!
I like the Perth video montage in the first few minutes of the video. Really frames the journey before you get into the details of the train ride.
What an efficient train! Seems much better than XPT despite being exactly the same train!
Love the use of short platforms
Shame about the pie but glad the hot chicken roll made up for it! It's true...if it aint Mrs Macs, take it back!
Great video, thanks Rory! Very calming and thank you for showing us some more of our country!

Great video! I may have to take this train in a few weeks so this was a helpful review!!
Top review Rory. The train kind of looks a bit like a NSW explorer train in my opinion.
