for some reason I love the Surface Go Laptop 2. It's something that just feels good and invites me to use it. Not the highest specs but it overall it's my favorite laptop ever. Of course I do have a desktop for heavy lifting.
I would go for the Surface. I just like having a more compact laptop, as that makes it easier to carry around. It has reasonable, if not really great power for a highschool student like me, and doesn't break the bank the bank like a Macbook (still leaves a fracture). What's the point in having a laptop if it takes up so much space that you can't carry it around?
i bought the 8GB RAM with 256GB SSD and love the performace for the price. This laptop works great with Microsoft cloud services i was able to create a power platform solution using this laptop.
You can get an acer spin 3 for the same price, with 256GB on its SSD, 8GB of RAM and the same processors. While having more hinge flexibility (2 in 1 laptop) and stylus support. It even has a stylus that comes with the laptop, and is already pre slotted in the side of the device.
Picked up the original surface laptop go on sale just before Christmas. It’s been a great little companion laptop to my iMac at home. The display is fine, the keyboard is great. Only real issue has been battery life. It could have been a bit better. Also not used to hearing fans. It can get quite loud and noisy at times. It seems like it should be a machine that should be running an arm chip considering its small form factor
I think the biggest benefit of these laptops is the secured-core security chip/standard. Windows PCs have always been second class to MacOS or Chrome OS when it comes to hardware security, so it's nice to see Microsoft finally doing something about it. Most of anything else you get at this price is going to be garbage when it comes to hardware security anyway, unless it's a Chromebook.
if someone says this is the best overall laptop under this budget range then they clearly don't know about laptops or just doing paid promotion for that stuff. The only thing going for this laptop is its design, surface design are just chef's kiss
The RAM question is one thing, but the fact there's such a huge price jump between the middle one and the third one for the sake of adding a decent amount of storage is ridiculous. Companies are so parsimonious with storage for laptops nowadays. 128gb as a starting point is diabolical, and the cost of a unit with 256gb is insane considering what else you're getting. Thoughts Tom? (Also - what's the upgradeability on this? I'm presuming zero?)
In Germany the Surface Laptop Go 2 starts at 700$ (£576) and the one recommended from Tom costs 805$ (£662). So pretty overpriced for a laptop with poor storage and RAM, no keyboard light and less than 1080p resolution...
It is a bit misleading from Microsoft to provide those battery life numbers. They said near 18 hours with the Surface Laptop Studio, but in real life, it is closer to 6 hours. This device has the same overestimated number, but still, it provides a quality that very few manufacturers can provide.
That is just plain false, which is why you provided zero information on your laptop settings and activities performed. All standardized battery tests, like PC Mark 10, report well over 10 hours for both 60 and 120 hz. And all anyone has to do is Google the reviews to verify those numbers. One day before this one came out I got 128gb 8 gbRAM surface go 1 for £450
There’s only one thing good about Surface Laptop Go is keyboard. There are few other things didn’t mention here. Microsoft did the worst job on its firmware, the cpu would drastically slow down to 0.3Ghz when it gets hot. Results unusable.
I got Acer Swift 3 i7 11th gen version from the Microsoft store for the $529. It has better specs than this laptop specially 2k display. If Acer could do it better why Microsoft couldn't even put a 1080p display and 8gb ram.
I was loving it and looking to buy until I heard its not even full HD 1080p. Thats a bit of a let down in my opinion
its a nice, sleek and simple design though
Great laptop overall but I’m finding the battery only lasts me around 4-5 hours max with regular use (no video play).
but charging is fast
The thing is in India surface go 8 /256 and entry level macbook air M1 cost similar 👍👍
So at that point might as well get a MacBook
@@doomy_doomy2225 that's what I did
@@shrikantpawar4055 enjoy your crappy cramped MacBook desktop with crappy window snapping and no touch screen. I bet you get frustrated every time you use it.
@@YouGotPropofol I miss the touch screen but the performance and smoothness of mac os is really next level you have to believe.
@@YouGotPropofol damn chill
Please people, for the love of god, just save up another couple hundred dollars and get an M1 MacBook Air. It’ll last you 10x longer and meet every need you have.
Not mine. Most windows use for gaming or video editing and more. I used to own a Mac but i switched.
I need windows and bitlocker. Can I do that on the Air?
No backlit keyboard...literally the only reason I dont have one to replace my surfacebook 2
There’s honestly no difference except for a minor gpu and cpu update
5:32 it should be i5 i guess
Review Dell XPS 13 Plus
is this good for gaming?
Title of the year 😂🙌
The only things I don’t like about the Surface laptop Go 2 is it’s name, could’ve named it something else like Surface Laptop Lite.
Great review Thanks. It would be good to know what is going on with MS Office Software. Also is the laptop useful for MS gaming?
That statement is still correct not every student will be able to get their hands on the overpriced macbook air. i too would have loved to have this thing back in uni 😢
Does Every Surface go laptop come with Free Microsoft office ?
How is it compare to dell inspiron 7420 2 in 1 (newer 12th gen model) ?
I would say air is still a better value laptop considering the bad built quality of surface
Can this laptop be used for video editing?
Who cares? It ain't designed for video editing...
@@msp5138 they just asked a question lmao why are you so salty? “Who cares?” the op clearly does
No!!
How much of that graphics boost do you get at 1080p?
Don't know why people are so obsessed about ram about, ram speed is more important now and how the system is optimized to use it, for web browsing this is just fine
