Thank you so much for this!! Although I did not get accepted to Uchicago, I still love watching videos about my dream school. Good luck to the Class of 2024!
woww this was soo useful! i only wish this was longer! i'm an incoming freshman at UChi, could you please do a video reviewing your classes? i think it would be so great to have :) thanks chloe
You are such a great TH-camr. I love your content and your videos. Thank you so much for making videos. I really hope your channel will get more exposure and that your subscriber count grows! All the best with your gap year!!
Just like many others here, I usually really don't comment...but this video was so, so helpful. Thank you so much Chloe! I am taking a gap year right now. If it's possible, could you make a video with the difficulty of courses? (especially HUM....) Also, your video quality is getting better - really look forward to them!
Hey Chloe, thanks for this great advice! I’m unfamiliar with this idea of applying to clubs, is this just a finance thing or is this a thing for all types of clubs? And can you explain it a little more, like do all clubs have reapplication cycles every quarter? I’m really into dance, theatre, the environment, newspaper/literature magazine, and social justice. Would these clubs have similar processes or does it depend on the club?
Hi Chloe, I am quite surprised that you are half Indonesian hahaha. I am Indonesian too. Planning to go to the University of Chicago. Thank you for all your videos, it's really helpful. Just an idea tho, could next maybe make a video about how you build ur accent ? That would be awesome.
Hey, I don't usually comment, but thanks for the video. Anyways, I'm pretty worried about school being online. As an international student, I still gotta plan my trips and all that. :( Please update us if you have any insider news about that! 😺 thanks
In terms of the intelligence-elitism, how does it work when you first start? Obviously people come into college with different education backgrounds (huge public high school or elite private high school). How do people feel about that? If you come from a bad public high school and aren't as academically prepared/trained as someone from a private school, do people generally view you as less smart? I feel like the environment I was raised in emphasized how much privilege plays a role in your "intelligence" or ability to do well academically. Does the playing field level out pretty quickly (the less academically prepared catch up to the private school kids)? Sorry if this doesn't make sense haha
No worries it definitely makes a lot of sense! I would say that I don't think public v. private school affects how people think of academically/intelligence-wise, but obviously people will assume "elite private boarding school = rich" -- The big difference when you're first starting out is that usually private schools will have multiple people (some like Phillips Exeter have 15 ppl) at the school, so you come in already knowing some peeps, which often helps with roommates, friends, choosing classes, etc! Ofc there are massive public schools like Stuyvesant with idk like 30 people?
One thing I will add though is that (at least in my experience) -- private boarding school kids usually adjust faster to uchicago life because they've lived in dorms for a while + sometimes the class structure is quite similar, compared to some public schools -- This is also just info i've gathered and inferred, I didn't go to high school in the US so take my word with a grain of 🧂!!
Be Yourself you definitely CAN, but why aren't your parents supportive? if it's a tuition issue that's quite legitimate because UC is an expensive school, esp without financial aid. It is need blind to american kids, if that helps!
Be Yourself The fee issue is something that's definitely tricky - if you're Indian and belong to a middle or low income family, then you should definitely apply for financial aid! Or maybe some sort of work-study package/scholarships and grants --- as for living alone, the reality is that most first years don't live alone (they have a roommate), and uchicago's rooming system allows you to request roommate changes pretty easily! I think it's more about demonstrating that you're independent enough to take care of yourself, you will still contact them and be in touch, and then convince them with the quality of education -- BEST OF LUCK!!
Hi Chloe, what is the general opinion about the Department of English Language and Literature at UChicago? I mean, as a prospective applicant for the PhD program in English I know that in academia UChicago is rated even higher than Harvard and Princeton for graduate research in English, but as you know the general sense within a university community is a different thing altogether, I would like to hear what you think or what you hear from others on your campus about the department. Thanks.
Rajdeep Pathak Thanks for the detailed comment!! To my knowledge they have a pretty good reputation (and have some tough classes, esp since the literature/english core requirements for everyone is pretty high standard), but sadly I only know one or two people majoring in Creative Writing so I can't really say :(
@@asynchloe Hi Chloe I actually have applied for the Creative writing major at Uchicago as my first choice I'm going test optional as I couldn't take the SAT bcoz I had been tested COVID positive exactly a week before th December SAT but I really have worked my guts off writing the Uchicago essay and the Common app essay I also have submitted 4 of my self written poems to the portal and my optional video profile( I had a 98.4 percent in 10th standard) U think I have possibilities of getting in with a financial aid? It seems like the experience you've had at UChicago is quite different from the way the school brands itself. If you had anything to say to students interested in applying for 2020 (but can't actually visit the scohol and get to know it super closely), how would you say the image of UChicago is different from the actual UChicago? es ay good question!!! I've been collecting info for a "Reality vs Expectation video" but it's tough because I don't want to accidentally turn away people and portray it another way, and yet I also don't want to sound wishing-washy and keep second-guessing my experiences --- i'll probably end up making it and putting a disclaimer :)))
I live 28 min away from uchicago and I really want to go there for college I just graduated 7th grade. I live in a lower middle class so ig I don’t have as much resources as people in the upper middle class do. I would say I’m pretty good at reading because I got a 243 on the map test (map test is kinda like a sat for kids) I’m very bad at math and I have a very bad teacher. I’m falling behind in math and I feel like math is a big part in sat and act. Do you have any advice to get better at math and reading? I really wanna learn more.
im a senior in high school and it is pretty early for all of this, which i think is good because you can really prepare the right way for applying to your dream school. theres so many things i wish i would’ve done to better build my resume and now it is causing so much stress because i feel like i have no chance even though i had so much potential. granted i am also very lower middle class, so it was really hard to do anything because i lacked resources and i had to work a job pretty much all of high school. what i would do is find a passion and really try to get involved; make something out of yourself. try to take as many math classes to get ahead and build your critical thinking skills. read a lot! read everything you can because it just expands your vocabulary and will also help for the reading and writing on the sat.
Hmm, if that was a Ted talk, that was the most words per minute ever achieved in a Ted talk! I would say a rant would be more apropos. Did we ever get a UChicago Zoom University experience video?

For math grind khan academy bro.
like not the SAT math but like the actual math parts from algebra 1 to BC calculus. Then you can start test specific prep.
