@@jgb8038 Do you know that in the James Bond movies, Bond is offered Dom Perignon '55 by Dr No, and says he prefers the '53 himself, which is the year the first Bond book was released. Then that interaction is mirrored in Golden Gun, with Scaramanga offering him a glass of the '64 vintage and he says he prefers the '62 himself, the year of release of the first Bond movie? One of my favourite bits of Bond trivia.
Movie pitch. It starts with Indy's funeral. Shorty attends with his family. In Indy's will, he leaves Shorty a journal detailing everything he knows about treasure lost somewhere in Asia. Shorty, his wife, and his American born daughter go on an adventure to get it back. Must include a car chase with Shorty driving, where he assures his family that he's been doing this since he was twelve.
I would have loved for him to be in DoD...Either showing up to save Indy from certain doom with the mad skillz we now know he has, or even as a bad guy! Basically, we learn that Indy realized he shouldn't be exposing a kid to danger, so he set him up with a family and left...But SR felt abandoned, and followed his path in life, but became more like Belloq, finally confronting Indy in DoD. Of course, they reconcile, he betrays the bad guys he's working for, and is there with Indy at the end, giving him yet another reason to live for! But I like your idea, too...
Has a similar idea. But opens with a man entering a rainy bar on the West Coast, takes off his cap and wipes his glasses on his hanky and asks for the phone. Two cowboys at a table make fun of his English and pick a fight daring them to use “Bruce Lee shit” on them. The man puts his ballcap back on, turns it backwards to reveal a San Francisco Giants SF. Dr. Short Round proceeds to beat the shit out of them just like Indy would’ve. Main plot centers around a group of refugees asking Shorty to retrieve a precious statue from a temple in the Cambodian jungle before the Kmet Rouge get it.
Ke Huy Quan embracing Harrison Ford at the Oscars last year is so wholesome, and Brendan Fraser's acceptance too Amrish Puri was India's most famous baddie player. RIP
I still find it amazing that Ke Huy Quan, the star of _Everything Everywhere All at Once_ first rose to fame here as Short Round. So talented, even at such a young age.
About your intro... you are telling us that you've never watched the Goonies? Oh, you gotta do it! It's amazing, so much fun! I'm sure you are gonna love it (and we are gonna love seeing you discover this gem).
The minecar sequence was a combination of three techniques. First, the full sized minecar was doing circles, with lighting changes to imply changes of location. Second, there were a very few select blue screen shots. Thirdly the wide shots of the minecars were actually miniatures with actuated puppets - done so well I honestly couldn't have told you that unless I researched it, it looked so real. This film won the Best Visual Effects Oscar, of course. Can I just say how refreshing it is to watch a reaction to this film without any bitching about Willie's character. The truth is, unlike Marion in the first film, Willie was supposed to be comic relief. This was an insanely dark film, with child slavery, ripping out of hearts, you name it. Without a comic relief character (which the first film didn't have) the audience may not have been able to cope particularly well. Despite receiving heavy criticism at the time for... well you name it, the Temple of Doom sold more tickets than any film in the franchise bar the first (don't be fooled by inflation people). Unfortunately, in my opinion, the critical response to the film led them to play it safe with the third film. Don't get me wrong, I love the Last Crusade, I just think they could have been more daring with it.
100% agree. People get really bent out of shape over Willie. I guess people don't understand the concept of character arcs, or as you pointed out, comic relief.
@saewha You do know there are movies where white actors portrayed black, Asian, and Native American people, right? You think *THIS* is more racist than Mickey Rooney playing a Japanese man in "Breakfast at Tiffany's"? th-cam.com/video/Hb3gdUrIC4Q/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=PeterGriffin Good luck making that argument!
Yet Short Round's parents were killed in the Japenese bombing of Shanghai according to Indy which happened in 37 - I guess Indy time-travelling did happen prior to Dial of Destiny :)
11:00 Apparebtly there's a deleted scene where Indy and another character discuss the unnatural nature of the dinner, that this isn't normal and a symptom of a palace suffused with evil.
I don't think it was deleted, rather that they decided to never shoot it. Which was a shame, it would have added some context. Personally I never did mind the dinner scene, but I do know that many others have criticized it heavily.
@@erikthompson619no it’s a good scene. If you’ve ever been to Southeast Asia they eat a lot of stuff like this. Lol. Not “insensitive” to tell the truth. Well maybe not too many monkey brains
She just might. It was a huge disappointment to ME back in the day. It was basically the exact same movie as the first one, just with Sean Connery as an added bonus. I had expected them to double down on the action and scares once again, like they did with the second one, so instead getting a lamer, tamer repetition was NOT a nice surprise. Still a great movie as action romps go, but it still made this trilogy end on a whimper.
@@erikthompson619 Even in adventure movies, the story and themes should always take precedence over the action or scares. As far as Indiana Jones films go, I find nothing 'lamer or tamer' about _The Last Crusade._
@@erikthompson619 I half agree. I think they did tone it down a bit, which doesn't make it have quite as much impact. Some of the music from Temple of Doom legitimately give me full-body goosebumps. The music in the 3rd film, being less intense, is 'merely' excellent. Music has a colossal impact on a scene. The set pieces in ToD are just so over-the-top and exotic. In TLC, they kind of fall-back on the "Indiana Jones and the search for a Christian Relic while fighting Nazis" theme. Part of what made ToD awesome was delving into less familiar settings, characters, etc. I had never heard of the Thugee before that movie, and had assumed George Lucas made it up; but, no, they were a real thing that plagued India for several decades. I think a lot of audiences prefer what is familiar. I prefer what is new, and different to what came before. That being said, TLC is still an amazing movie.
12:33 when they did this flip, and Ford fell on his back, he injured it so bad, it seriously threatened his life. He needed months of recvery. They used a stunt double for as much material they could - you can see him at 14:34. Around 19:36 you can see a dark spot on Harrison's back - that's the scar from this injury.
12:25 That was such a brilliant, creative idea, wasn’t it? To think that guy was actually hiding in plain sight just like that not from just Indiana Jones but from the movie audience as well!
Oh my god, it is so great to see a reactor who doesn't hate Willie. She gets so much hatred, but you totally got what's fun about her character. She is *so* completely out of place, it's hilarious -- but by the end of the movie, she's really grown a lot. She'll never be an adventurer like Marion, but she proves herself. The novelization gives her some more backstory and she's so much cooler than the movie suggests -- she's a farmgirl from the middle of nowhere (Iowa, I think), who came of age in the Great Depression, and was told constantly not to have dreams because she'd never escape the poverty of the dust bowl. Her grandfather was a stage magician, and she learned enough from him to get a job as a magician's assistant, then learned to sing, dance, and eventually that allowed her to travel the world. Sure, she's associating with gangsters and the like, but for a farmgirl who was told she'd never leave Iowa, being the headliner at a club in Shanghai is a dream come true. And that's why Willie is cool -- she's an incredibly competent woman, it's just that "jungle adventure" is not what she's competent at. Also, people forget that this is a prequel and thus we can't be left asking questions like "Why aren't Indy and Willie a couple at the beginning of Raiders?" Obviously they're a poor match and their relationship won't last once she's back in civilization.
That's wild how Willie Scott's life seems to run paralell to the real life Kate Capshaw! Kate lived near St Louis MO, not too far from my old stompin' ground before she made it big, so the line at the end "I'm goin' back to Missouri.." was a nod to her homeland. I've read that Kate did not have the best of times filming Temple of Doom, but hey in the end she did wind up marrying Stephen Speilberg!!! Glad to see someone not completely shart on Willie for a change:)
It has its moments XD, just kidding; honestly the films kind of have been reappreciated in recent years. When the second films of all Spielberg's major franchises tied to its name came out, they were not that very well welcomed (to the point it became a steretype to say Spielberg wasn't good with sequels). It's interesting to remember this was the general feeling for Temple of Doom, Jurassic Park: The Lost World and Empire Strikes Back when they came out (and all three, although maybe not so much with Lost World, got a better reputation in recent years). Such is life... sometimes audiences want copies of the same thing over and over.
Also, I want to point out that the reason for so many dark stuff in the movie and possibly Willie being an annoying stereotype was because that George Lucas was going through a divorce from Marcia Lucas (the editor of Taxi Driver and the first Star Wars) and Spielberg was going through a breakup. Spielberg said that it was his least favourite of the Indiana Jones films that he’s worked on and that the only good thing to come out of it for him was that he got to met Kate Capshaw (who played Willie) and later on married her. Thankfully, they’ve remained married since.
That could have an impact, but also keep in mind all three different films are, partially, based in the formula of old pulp radio and movie adventure serials (that covered different genres from detectives, espionage, ganster to horror and sci-fi; horror tales and crime stories could get pretty dark, to the point this pulp stories went on to create a huge backlash and censorship for future media like comics under the idea "they were idolizing crime and satanism among the young"). Pulp stories, while many were serialized and followed a character or a crew, were mostly campy, self contained, and full of different stereotypes; including the almost unescapable "damsel in distress". The trope predates the pulp, but when radio and movies with sound appeared, the damsel in distress got one of its more modern aspects: screaming for (virtually) anything (and then gets captured, or faints, or something happens and she can't do a damn thing). Their personal dissatisfaction with relationships paired with the tropes they were relying on to build the story (even Kate Capshaw asked a couple of times if she wasn't screaming too much, I think) simply were fertile grounds to easily make a character that gets too easily on the nerves of many, because that stereotype is no longer popular in such cartoony limits.
Indy didn't know the airplane was owned by Lao Che, thought he made a great getaway. The club was named Club Obi-Wan, easter egg! ( droids are in Raiders in the wall of the idol).
I have seen Roy Chiao (the man who played Lao Che in the opening) in quite a few films, including some roles in classic Hong Kong movies. I love the characters he played and it is a shame that sadly he is no longer with us.
21:37 Fun fact that’s the same actor who played that one not see that got torn up by the helicopter blade in the first movie has actors name is Pat roach and in real life he used to be a wrestler turned stunt man before his death.
To answer your question Ange, the language spoken in Shanghai is the Wu Dialect, sometimes called Shanghainese. Which is a dialect of Mandarin as I understand it. The 1930s was part of the later Warlord Period of modern China. So people were still speaking regional dialects, Mandarin as a language wouldn't be standardized by the Chinese Communist Party until 1986. Chances are though, that the actors were probably speaking Mandarin, since if the actors themselves didn't speak it. It was probably more accessible to find a language coach for in Hollywood in the 80s.
3:27 - in high school, one person I knew who was from Taiwan, says he greets Lao Che in Mandarin, and then when they are arguing later, they are doing so in Cantonese.
Temple of Doom is a "prequel" of Raiders, you realized soon in the movie! Mola Ram character it´s played by Amrish Puri, who was a very well known indian actor who passed in 2005. For me, the perfect description of this movie is... "Darth Indiana". A great great original trilogy, being "The last crusade" my favourite. The OST, by John Williams of course, reminds me ALWAYS to Star Wars, specially themes like "battle of the heroes" or "duel of the fates", in the darkest scenes.
This is one of my favorite films. I used to get home from a long day of work... and my father would pop in a VHS tape of this. He didnt have many other films, so he would play it all the time. The crazy thing is, that every time he played it... if I walked past the TV... I ended up watching it to the end. No matter how many times Ive seen it, Ive never gotten bored with it. Its a true Masterpiece of Cinema.
The dress Willie wears in the opening dance sequence was an incredibly expensive, one-of-a-kind dress made with actual sequins from the 1930s and was worth a small fortune. Naturally, with it being that valuable, it ended up being badly damaged in a very unexpected way. While filming the scenes of the main characters traveling by elephant, there is a scene in which the dress is hanging on a branch to dry. During the filming of that scene, one of the elephants got ahold of the dress and chewed it up. The filmmakers had to file an insurance claim on the dress, and on the form the cause of damage listed was "eaten by elephant"!
Short round was also in the Goonies. Yeah, there is a stunt in a later movie that is widely panned for being "not realistic". It is no less ridiculous and less realistic than the raft from the airplane. Snakes do indeed have bones. Just mostly a spinal column and ribs. Though Pythons (Pythonidae) and Boas (Boidae), many species of both groups still have vestigial hips.
It sure if someone else here mentioned this but Short around isn’t wearing a Yankee cap. It’s an old New York Giants cap. The SF Giants used to play in NYC until 1958 when they moved.
😄👍 Everybody laughs at that plane crashing into the mountain at 6:27. In the next Indiana Jones film, there's another scene with a plane crashing into the side of a mountain, but the special effect is slightly more convincing in that one.
Great reaction! 😊 "Okie dokie Dr. Jones! Hold on to your potatoes!" This is the movie debut of the 2023 Academy Award Winner Ke Huy Quan! He's so perfect as Short Round. This movie is a prequel to "Raiders of the Lost Ark". I think it takes place a year before the first movie. Fun Fact #1: This is the movie that director Steven Spielberg met his future wife Kate Capshaw(who plays Willie). Always love the little nod to "Star Wars" in the beginning with Indy at Club Obi-Wan. 14:51 - 15:49 Fun Fact #2 This scene is what prompted one of the first PG-13 ratings. The second being the movie "Gremlins"(which I highly doubt during the Christmas season) which was released the same year as this movie. I'm already looking forward to your reaction for "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". It's one of my favorite Indy movies. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
The scene where Dr. Jones, Short Round, and the lady before they get on the plane are being escorted by Dan Aykroyd, who played in Ghostbusters as Ray Stantz
"Oh that's awesome- he stole his plane." Uh...no. The Star Wars references from Raiders continues into this one with Club Obi Wan. From Star Wars in E.T. to E.T. in one of the Star Wars films, from the Clone Wars to Ready Player One, Spielberg and Lucas have a habit of hiding Easter eggs from each others' films. Btw, Mythbusters determined that it wouldn't have been possible to survive the fall from the plane in the raft.
0:14 so lucky! I had all four of mine taken out a few years back and I don’t think I remember pain either, but it was just so inconvenient. Plus I think the meds made me have night paralysis lol
A lot of people seem to class this as the worst of the original trilogy, but for me it's easily the best. An absolute rollercoaster from beginning to end...it rarely lets up and is action packed right from the start. Willy's character was seemingly what spoiled it for some but I loved the contrast of her scared of everything 'broke a nail' type vibe in contrast to Indys character and it made for some hilarious moments. Short round was such a great addition too.
As a kid, when the bad guys fell into the canyon I used to tell them "See you later, in an alligator!" Even though in-story those were supposed to be crocodiles, the animals being filmed were actually alligators.
Good reaction, Angelna. This 2nd Indiana Jones movie is often regarding as the worst one among the original 3 movies....but I actually still like it. Btw, I'm sure that other commenters already mentioned it...but just in case no one did, the blonde actress (Kate Capshaw) who plays his love interest in this movie is actually Steven Speilberg's wife. They have been married for over 30 years.
As a kid Temple of Doom was my favorite Indy movie mainly because of Ke Huy Quan. As an adult The Last Crusade is my favorite and so I look forward to your reaction to it!
This movie enforced upon me to always graciously eat anything a host presents in front of me (Not the shock factor glutton club meal, the humble local food meal). I now eat basically anything. I always saw the Emperor's banquet as something the British aristocrats introduced as "pompous exotic hunters" as a show of wealth rather than anything traditionally India. Also Ke Huy Quan basically carried my age-related Asian main character representation for the longest time.
I think it was supposed to be the first hint that these were not Hindus, at least not any kind of normally behaving ones. (In the novelization, someone even comments on the fact that it's not normal.)
You enjoyed this one a lot so I'll drop a recommendation for ya: King Solomon's Mines was released in 1985 - just a year after Temple of Doom. Richard Chamberlain, Sharon Stone and a lot of fun adventure to be had!
0:23 getting wisdom teeth pulled today is no trouble. Now about 50 years ago, it was comparable to dying from all the horror stories I heard growing up. Luckily I too came along after those days and had an easy time with it.
Thank you for liking Willie! A lot of people don't get her. She's comic relief. They wanted a different love interest in each film, like Bond, so WIllie was a blonde where Marion was a brunette. Marion was a tough as nails woman that could take care of herself, so Willie was an "indoor girl" that wouldn't go on an Indy adventure unless she was forced. She does have a character arc and even punched out a Thugee near the end. But most can't get past her screaming. Sorry, but most of us would ALSO be screaming in her shoes. She's great and a fun comedic foil to Indy and Short Round.
Great reaction Angelina like always. Indy didn’t get the girl. Steven Spielberg did. A few years after 'Temple of Doom' came out, Steven Spielberg met up again with Kate Capshaw (Willie)...they were both single and they fell in love. She converted to Judaism, and they are now one of the major power couples in Hollywood. Kate had a daughter from her previous marriage, who is also an actress. Her name is Jessica Capshaw, she is probably best known for her role on 'Grey's Anatomy' as pediatric surgeon Dr. Arizona Robbins. This is not my favorite of the Indiana Jones movies...the next one is. 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' is by far my favorite. The idea of Mola Ram taking someone's heart out and burning it came from George Lucas, who felt his ex-wife did the exact same thing to him. There are some fun-facts about this movie. The exterior of Pankot Palace was realised through the use of both matte paintings & a set constructed at Elstree Studios here in the UK. The bridge & village sequences were filmed in Sri Lanka. Oh & the bats are fruit bats, not vampire bats. Harrison Ford suffered a severe spinal disc herniation by performing a somersault while filming the scene with the assassin in Jones's bedroom. A hospital bed was brought on set for Ford to rest between takes. Lucas stated, "He could barely stand up, yet he was there every day so shooting would not stop. He was in incomprehensible pain, but he was still trying to make it happen." The guard crushed by the roller was played by Pat Roach; the same actor who played the Nazi guard who is diced by the plane in Raiders!!! He also played General Kael in Willow. Keep up the good work.
Ange, I absolutely loved this reation!! I love that you actually liked Willie, because I also love her character, because she is just so much fun, and I always find it sad when people only see the bad in her. This is by far my favorite Indy movie. Of course, Short Round is so great in this too. Don't get me wrong, all 3 original movies are great, and each of them have something going for them, but this will forever be my favorite, because it's a thrill ride from beginning to end. You will have a great time with the next one as well, I think, although it's a shame that Shorty is only in Temple of Doom. Sean Connery is also fantastic though. You might want to skip the last two Indy movies though.
Yeah, this movie is the best one, and I never had a problem with Willie. And the people who have, did they ever notice that Marion had her fair share of screaming and making a fuss as well?
I JUST noticed the neon around the bar he was in in the opening says (something I could read) OBI WAN. I’m not a big Star Wars fan but even I know that’s a fun Easter egg.
I am sooooo jealous of your wisdom teeth surgery recovery!!! It was one of the most excruciatingly painful experiences of my life. Worse than ACL reconstruction surgery. I’m glad you didn’t have to deal with that awfulness!
Glad you had an easy time with the wisdom teeth. That little operation didn't bother me either. I was back to work the next day lol. Although, this isn't the best Raiders movie, I enjoyed the ending the most. Seeing the children reunited with their parents is tear jerking and heart warming. And a small detail, those weren't crocodiles in the river ecen though they were supposed to be. They actually used alligators for the movie.
Yeah, when I was a kid, Raiders was fun, but this one was too scary for me to want to rewatch. There was a really cool arcade game of this though, where you got to run around caves, whipping guards, and you got to do the mine cart chase!
Funnily enough the reason I didn't like Temple as much as Raiders as a kid was the opening musical scene. Today I definitely put Temple ahead of Raiders but that might be more to do with the fact that I watched Raiders to death as a kid and can't watch it any more :) - Elsa ruined Last Crusade for me - I just couldn't stand the character or the actress playing her.
1. Some folks don't care for this one very much, but I do. It's all kinds of fun. 2. Just a small suspension of belief regarding the lifeboat drop out of the plane, and the coal car landing perfectly on the tracks. 3. IRL Ford could fly that plane. 4. When I was in the US Navy, I got to eat monkey (but not monkey brains) and tasted dog in the Philippines. 5 Shortround is "Billy Badass"🤬🤩 6. Disneyland already has a "Raiders of the lost ark" so another one of the ride through the tunnel/mine would be cool too. Assuming you can afford it.🙄😏 7. Kate Capshaw got the Willie gig because she was dating and later became Spielberg's wife. 8. Fun act: The guy that plays the guy getting crushed is the same actor that played the guy that got hit with the propellor in "Raiders of the lost ark". 9. Coolest villain ever.👹
Strange how this movie has a call back to a scene from a moment in a movie that has not even happened yet. It's a PREQUEL people! Indy even said he didn't believe in magic in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, but he should have after this adventure.
The part where indy grabs shorty and does the eye wink and says I'm alright kid, Quan does the same thing in everything everywhere all at once in the elevator with michelle and before he does the martial arts scene as homage to ToD. Ford worked alot with Quan on so much while making ToD and you can tell with how well their characters connect.
Glad you enjoyed this one! I love Short Round but this was always my least favorite Indiana Jones movie because I first saw clips of it as a child and was HORRIFIED, I could not believe this guy was ripping people's hearts out of their chests, melting people in lava, like this was not for children! 😂 Plus I hate bugs so no thank you! Excited for Last Crusade, that one's my favorite
Finally someone who gets the point of Willie. She is meant to be different from Marion, and since this is a prequel to Raiders we're not supposed to think that Indiana and Willie would work out in the long run. I really appreciate Willie and Kate Capshaw's performance here, a lot of it is really fun.
Probably my most watched Indy film as a kid. Shorty was a great proxy for kids who had the stomach to watch xD. I'm surprised you came around with Willy, I've seen PLENTY of reaction vids where she is the clear and obvious dark spot of the movie so it was interesting to see your take
I wonder if the scene where Indy chases after the swordsman and then gets chased by a bunch of swordsman was a reference to Han Solo doing the same thing with the Stormtroopers in Star Wars
Okay...lucky girl with the wisdom teeth. I had all four of mine out when I was 17 (in 1989), back when they gave you REALLY powerful drugs for the pain. I had one day of intense pain, and by the fifth day, the pain was gone, but I was still a bit tender for another day or two. The first two or three days were the hardest to deal with. - This movie was how Steven Spielberg met his second wife...Kate Capshaw, who plays Willie Scott. They didn't get together for a few years, but they became friends during the filming. So, when Ke Huy Quan received his Oscar, the main cast of Temple of Doom were all on hand at the ceremony...Harrison and Kate, and Steven Spielberg...and all of them were thrilled for Ke. - The man who puts Indy, Willie, and Short Round on the plane is Dan Ackroyd (Ghostbusters) Spielberg directed Ackroyd in the WWII comedy 1941, and Spielberg also made an on-camera cameo in Dan Ackroyd's hit film, The Blues Brothers. - The villain Mola Ram is played by one of India's most successful character actors, the late Amrish Puri. One of Puri's biggest films in India is one that ran for well over 20 years in cinemas non-stop, and might still be playing. The film is called Dilwale Dulhania La Jayenge (The Braveheart Takes the Bride) starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, and Puri plays Kajol's father. If you want a good Indian film...DDLJ is a lot of fun! - This was the film that was responsible for the MPAA to create the PG-13 rating. So many people were sickened by the banquet scene and the Thugee sacrifice scene that the board overseeing the film ratings made changes to create a rating between PG & R. The first film to be rated PG-13 came out in August of 1984, about 3 months after Temple of Doom. The first PG-13 film was Red Dawn. - There is one other film that was made in the early 1980s that both Amrish Puri (Mola Ram) and Roshan Seth (Chatter Lal, the Maharaja's secretary) both appeared in. They were part of the film Gandhi (1982) starring Ben Kingsley as the title character. Puri appears in the early part of the film set in South Africa, and Seth appears later in the India section of the film as Jawaharlal Nehru, the man who would become India's first Prime Minister in 1947. Fun fact: Gandhi also has a very young Daniel Day-Lewis making one of his first screen appearances in the South Africa section of the film. Gandhi won 8 Oscars including Best Picture, Director, and Actor (Kingsley).
Fun fact - The Late Great Former pro wrestler/actor Pat Roach is the ONLY actor other than Harrison Ford to appear in the first 3 Indy movies. He played the massive lead Thuggee guard in Temple of Doom and played 2 roles in Raiders - the biggest henchman in the fight in Marion's tavern in Nepal and the bald German mechanic in the German flying wing fight scene.
When I had my wisdom teeth out, I was eating as soon as the Novocain wore off, I really had zero issues, but they weren't really a bother before they pulled them either. But many other people I've known haven't been nearly as lucky, so yeah, it's different for every person, glad it went well for you, as when it goes bad, it can go really bad.
A bit of an issue with Short Round's backstory - The Japanese Bombing of Shanghai was in 1937....2 years AFTER when this film is set :) Given the line about Short Round living on the streets since he was four it lines up with The White Terror in 1927 but that was Chinese vs Chinese.
The one Indiana Jones movie that dips most into horror, a brand new rating (PG-13) was largely created BECAUSE of this. Even if Spielberg himself thought the film was too dark (made during a turbulent time in his life), it pushed filmmaking forward and created a cult classic regardless! 😎

I did the same. The original James bonds, the lord of the rings, Indiana Jones and star wars moulded me
@@jgb8038 Do you know that in the James Bond movies, Bond is offered Dom Perignon '55 by Dr No, and says he prefers the '53 himself, which is the year the first Bond book was released.
Imagine Armour of God but with Ke Huy Quan instead of Jackie Chan.
Main plot centers around a group of refugees asking Shorty to retrieve a precious statue from a temple in the Cambodian jungle before the Kmet Rouge get it.
what about his son? You know, Mutt?
Then the TVA shows up
Ke Huy Quan embracing Harrison Ford at the Oscars last year is so wholesome, and Brendan Fraser's acceptance too
Amrish Puri was India's most famous baddie player. RIP
I still find it amazing that Ke Huy Quan, the star of _Everything Everywhere All at Once_ first rose to fame here as Short Round. So talented, even at such a young age.
Goonies never say die
Harrison Ford presenting Ke Huy Quen the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor was beyond cathartic and awesome :D
The crocodiles in the final confrontation were in fact alligators, they were filmed at Gatorland here in central Florida.
Oh, wow! Didn't know that!
Okie dokie Dr. Jones! Hold on to your potatoes!
For crying out loud, there's a kid driving the car!

Raiders of the Lost Ark was set in 1936, just one year after this one and the Last crusade is set in 1938.
after an academic year like that, it's a wonder he's still a professor😂
I had NO IDEA Temple of Doom took place before Raiders.
This was one of the films that helped influence the creation of the PG-13 rating. This is a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark
Yep, this and Gremlins were pretty much #1 and #2 most influential by a country mile!
The Last Crusade is my favorite Indiana Jones film you won't be disappointed
Short Round absolutely gets the R2D2 MVP Award.
@@LovableFreak80 Oh, that's right, it was Missouri, not Iowa. Sounds like they borrowed from Kate's biography to flesh out Willie's.
People who say this movie is bad/weak are nuts. It's so much fun, start to finish.
They no nuts, they crazy. ;o)
This is my favorite Indiana Jones movie ❤
The 3rd movie The Last Crusade is great
Still weaker than the two first. As a matter of fact, it is more or less a weaker clone of the first movie, just with Sean Connery as an added bonus.
liked 1 and 3 better than 2
it's literally the least good of all of them ... haven't seen the last one but I doubt it's much worse
Shorty is the MVP. Love it that Ke is now an Oscar winning actor and back on our screens again. He's so good. 😁
20:30 Like oh my God it's so cute there giving there hats back that's so adorable
One of my favorite movies of all time, can't wait to see the reaction!
The OST, by John Williams of course, reminds me ALWAYS to Star Wars, specially themes like "battle of the heroes" or "duel of the fates", in the darkest scenes.
you´re on a personal nostalgic marathon and I love that
This is one of my favorite films.
For some reason, when I was a kid, I loved this movie very much that I rewatched it over and over again, not realizing how dark it was until today
The scene where Dr. Jones, short round, and Willie are being escorted to the plane is play by Dan Aykroyd in Ghostbusters as Ray Stantz
I love watching "behind the scenes" or "the making of" for action/adventure films and these are my favorite as well as Tom Cruise movies. Amazing.
The darkest and most controversial Indiana Jones movie ever made!
No audio on my phone, I'm getting a new one tomorrow. Keep up the good work.
Great reaction! 😊
"Okie dokie Dr.
It IS the best. No doubt about it.

The fact that you missed what the club was called kills me 😂 they caused chaos and set fire to Club Obi Wan.
that's a HUGE cave! I once crawled through one that was called "the birth cannel"... it made even me a bit uncomfortable.

Nice to see a reactor enjoy this so much, maybe the 3rd movie you'll love more, it's a lot of fans favourite.
"Short Round deserves an award" - he got one many years later - an oscar for Everything, Everywhere All At Once
Today I definitely put Temple ahead of Raiders but that might be more to do with the fact that I watched Raiders to death as a kid and can't watch it any more :)

Elsa ruined Last Crusade for me - I just couldn't stand the character or the actress playing her.
5 Shortround is "Billy Badass"🤬🤩
6. Disneyland already has a "Raiders of the lost ark" so another one of the ride through the tunnel/mine would be cool too. Assuming you can afford it.🙄😏
7. Kate Capshaw got the Willie gig because she was dating and later became
Spielberg's wife.
Ke Huy Quan also was in The Goonies, another great movie.
"short round is so good, he deserves an award*, He got one, It's called an Oscar XD
i had the same when my teeth were pulled. the only thing that hurt was when the teeth were pushing back a few days after.
One of my favorite John Williams scores
I cried when I saw Harrison ford and Ke Huy Quan hug at the academy awards. I was by myself but I couldn’t help but clap 🥲👏👏👏👏👏🥲👏👏👏👏👏
You are gonna LOVE Indiana Jones and the last crusade the most! It's the best one in my opinion with his dad that joins his adventure
Yes!!! Excited for this 😊
Used to not really like this one … but now super favorite ❤️
16:06 yes it's a secret potato it has magic powers for a potato
19:55 The WTF look on Indy's face when the villain hides away always gets me LOL
the man Indy meets at the airport, who gets him on the plane, the one who recognized Willie Scott, - Dan Akroyd
Me at the creepy dinner:
"Gosh, you know what I had a huge lunch yesterday......I think I am good."
You mention a fear of caves I've driven a truck to deliver Kraft food in to the caves in Missouri.
When my wisdom teeth were pulled, one was impacted that I needed no pain meds since the "pain" after was minimal compared to before.
"Oh, and the crocodiles are all waiting at the bottom like it's raining.... snacks."
Missed out on the It's Raining Men joke there.

So surprising was the snake surprise, that the woman temporarily forgot how to language
24:26 It's called a green screen and other effects special effects
When I had my wisdom teeth out, I was eating as soon as the Novocain wore off, I really had zero issues, but they weren't really a bother before they pulled them either. But many other people I've known haven't been nearly as lucky, so yeah, it's different for every person, glad it went well for you, as when it goes bad, it can go really bad.
A bit of an issue with Short Round's backstory - The Japanese Bombing of Shanghai was in 1937....2 years AFTER when this film is set :)
Given the line about Short Round living on the streets since he was four it lines up with The White Terror in 1927 but that was Chinese vs Chinese.
The one Indiana Jones movie that dips most into horror, a brand new rating (PG-13) was largely created BECAUSE of this. Even if Spielberg himself thought the film was too dark (made during a turbulent time in his life), it pushed filmmaking forward and created a cult classic regardless! 😎
When someone pointed out to me they used miniatures (dolls) for the minecart scenes it blew my mind. It looked so real.
Keep in mind, Angelina, this was the movie, along with “Gremlins” that birthed the PG-13 rating for future movies.
