Great video. It’s also important to note that since the majority of layoffs have been white collar jobs, most people are living off savings and severance payments instead of filing for unemployment. This continues to give the impression that unemployment is low. Simply filing a UI claim even if you don’t get it or use it will increase unemployment reporting and force the fed to really look at what’s going on.
You can’t file for unemployment unless you have a certain amount in your bank account. Trust me this is something they will say to you. They would rather help non-citizens then they’re own people. The “American Dream” 🙌🏼
Great video, simple and straight to the point. You sound like a good and level headed person. You will find a job for sure. I am myself in my 8 months of job search. Yeah, I've been in IT for years and the only entry level IT jobs you might be able to get are on-site IT helpdesk type roles. Otherwise anything that can be done remotely will be done in a cheaper country. You've got to have other skills as a backup - plumbing, electrician, carpentry - just anything.
There are roughly 18 million underemployed people in America, and only about 6 to 8 million job listings. Of those, a large number are ghost jobs or positions that have been filled and not taken down. They aren't hiring people because there is more profit in making a few people do more work than hiring more people handle the workload. With such intense competition for jobs, it allows employers to keep wages extremely low due to being spoiled for choice. Inflation has nothing to do with it. Inflation is built into the monetary system to enable profit through lending money. It's been that way since 1913.
I think it is like any supply/demand problem. Here in Silicon Valley, they clearly overhired. Companies like Facebook and Google were basically warehousing employees so they could claim a stock of technical talent. Many of those people are looking for work now. The valley was in a gold rush mentality, and there was an inflow to the valley. In time, a lot of those people are going to leave, and companies are going to start hiring again. Its going to create a shortage of qualified people, and you'll hear companies complaining about that. Give it about a year to shake out. We have been through this kind of boom/bust cycle before.

The issue with getting a job today needs to consider the type of jobs which are in short supply. If you have a skill or experience in a job category which is in short supply, you will get a job easily. This is a list of the job types which have shortages of people to fill according to one site. solar equipment installer, wind turbine specialist, personal care assistant, nurse practitioner, statistician, assistant physiotherapist, software developer, mathematician. I do have a minor issue with this list, as software engineers are not in short supply, however there is another factor to consider with this list. Often a job class is in short supply because of the income being provided. Employers want cheap software developers, which is another factor to consider. As someone who was retrenched and who has had to find a new job my only comment is that pick a job which is in real demand and have a low income expectation. If you pick a job is in demand and you are prepared to take a low income you will get a job. Once you have a job continue the search for a better job and a higher income.
Yes, I was laid off in January. Tough to network & land jobs to point we burn out & when finally get interview, we don't have enough gas to cram & pass (already 10+). Then you receive feedback such as "needs more experience with DFS algorithm" even though I was super close to solving w/ right experience to match the role. It is what it is.
People act like interest rates are high, but they are just near historical averages and people just remember the recent ultra low rates. It is more painful now due to asset prices and the ratio between median income and median house price.

I started working at 12 and I’m 40 . I’ve been a construction worker , housekeeper , nurses aide , truck driver . I’m now entering college for the first time nervous but still staying the course . Now what my main tactic will be once I achieve my degree is to start low than work my way up . If a company won’t give me the job I want I will start from the bottom gaining experience under someone with the job I want . Therefore at some stage either I will get that job from them or someone else . Experience is the key with education it’s more than one way to skin a cat . Stop the expectations of getting a high paying job right out of college . Every field I’ve ever worked required me to work my way toward high pay . Before my accident I nearly worked my way up to one-hundred-thousand a year truck driving with no degree . Now I’m thrusted into an all new scenario forced to start my life over . Find a related field that will give you experience even at a lower pay then wait 3 years . You have to crawl before you walk . Now those are my experiences of 40 years dealing with jobs and navigating them nothing will be handed to you .
I know this likely a detriment to my situation. But I have never had government assistance (food stamps and unemployment). I’ve only had medicaid which was the best thing done for my life. The problem I have with government assistance is that I know I personally get complacent. Medicaid made me not know how to deal with Dr. Appointments with healthcare jobs give. So, now I don’t even go to the hospital when required because I’m so used to not paying anything. My family looks at me weird for not using the “help.” But I can’t explain how I abhor wanting to rely on the government without sounding pretentious.
Don’t feel badly about accepting unemployment benefits, employers cover those eventualities via tax payments to state governments. So basically, it’s your previous employer giving you a bit of financial assistance. In my state, TX, previous employers must approve benefits claim before state gives out a cent…I speak from experience. Also, benefits aren’t forever, there’s a specific amount each person is entitled to. Once that amount is reached, no more benefits.
More and more companies are investing in AI and their own LLMs. To compete with others in the product market, they have to lay off more low-performant engineers and they will be replaced by AI as well.
Situation here is in Bulgaria. IT companies reject most of young people and they cry to news we need people to work in our companies. How when they do this
Everyone was following the job prospect trend. Stop being picky, go for profession(s) that are available, high pay, but not a lot of people go for. You’ll be surprised that you’ll be the least worried person in the labor market.
Computers have taken all the good jobs. Only crummy jobs exist. People like to call young people names, and say they do not want to work. Untrue. There just are no jobs out there. People will live 5-10 to an apt, if the lease allows it. The future is either a $100/hr job, or a $10/hr job, no in-betweens.
5:22 the issue here is that the government has decided that they can only lower inflation by increasing interest rates. Interest rates reduce demand. But inflation is a miss match between supply and demand and the value of money. So one way to decrease inflation would be to stimulate the economy through government investment to increase supply. It's a longer term strategy, but the positive thing is that it's more productive and helpful long term, than it is to raise interest rates and basically create an artificial recession. Also, another way of reducing inflation, linked to what yiu mentioned about corporate greed, is to tax back the money tge government spent during COVID. It's kind of wild that inflation is being blamed on workers wages when corporate profits are at all time highs. If there's too much money in the system it should be taxed back from the corporations. But the corporate controlled government would never do that lol.
Our government spends trillions to effectively just talk trash about each other. Every dollar the government spends devalues your dollar unless they tax that dollar back from the people. The same government passed a spending increase bill called "the inflation reduction act", they cannot be trusted to make things any better.
It’s almost as if artificial intelligence is slowing the demand for human intelligence but here I go spreading conspiracy theories. I’m sure it’ll all work itself out once corporations recognize the importance of the human element when it comes to data entry and coding.
I was tempted to make a layoff video myself. I was laid off as an IT Systems Analyst after 3 years with my previous employer due to an interest rate hike and restructure / merge. Money printing is the cause of inflation primarily, second followed by "corporate greed." Money printing drives up interest rates, and in return companies drive up their prices because their costs go up as well. Housing goes up because the interest rates go up, cars, food, oil / gas / energy, everything goes up because of interest rates and money printing. Corporate greed is the symptom not the actual problem of it. Never the less, it's difficult to find a good paying job right now. While I am getting interviews, I'm not getting any offers at the moment. I know I will get hired at some point in the future, but that doesn't mean we're not being negatively impacted by the current situation at the moment. Interest rates are the culprit. Because rates are high, companies cannot use leverage and therefore hire less employees. People spend less and companies have less revenue and therefore need to hire less people. When spending goes down and rates moderate, that's when companies will start to hire again.
Nowadays it's important to get a referral for employment interviews, that's how most people are getting hired. It really increases one's chances well above others. It's a tough, tight, and very competitive market right now.
This might help. Think of reading the way you might hear someone speaking. Look for words that will work together to form sentences the way you hear people commonly speak. If the words don’t work as they should, start the sentence over and distinguish which words should be used. Take your time with it. The brain works best when calm. Best of luck to you.

I feel for you. Good luck my friend. To those who ghost... SHAME on you. What goes around, comes around.
As a highly experienced senior I have had more interviews in the past 6 months than ever before. Companies just know that they can operate leaner with seniors while the economy is tight.
What industry?
Not in my husband's case. Ageism is real when the stakes (salaries) are high.
@@globalfamily8172 Yep. I'm in the same boat I am an engineer with 20+ years experience and can't find anything. Lower level jobs I'm overqualified. Higher level jobs are super competitive and mostly fake postings as they hire from within.
@@globalfamily8172 That's true, but it's not impossible to get hired if you're older. I was hired by a small company that had gone thru a period where a few of their younger employees quit at the same time, which impacted their productivity. They took a chance and went in another direction hiring older workers. It's worked out well on both sides.

Live and work in Montreal, Canada. I'm in the middle of a career transition from Marketing/Comms to Data Analytics (Pursuing a Masters of SC in Analytics). sounds like you're ṣpeaking in the past. How much money do you make doing that right now in this economy?
Being over 50 adds to the odd for me to find a job. BUT this is life. Nobody owes me, or anybody else for that matter, a living. Life is tough but also a great gift. Keep looking up and forward.
Thank you, and wishing you all the best on your job search, my friend. Hope you'll find something good soon
Almost all American Tech jobs have been outsourced to india, that is why the American citizen cannot find a tech job, even entry level
@@SurpriseMeJT The more you can do your job remotely, the more expendable you are.
Most jobs want to pay you $11 and hr.
This mostly due to the current inflation.
Race to the bottom
I think it is like any supply/demand problem. Here in Silicon Valley, they clearly overhired. Companies like Facebook and Google were basically warehousing employees so they could claim a stock of technical talent. Many of those people are looking for work now. The valley was in a gold rush mentality, and there was an inflow to the valley. In time, a lot of those people are going to leave, and companies are going to start hiring again. Its going to create a shortage of qualified people, and you'll hear companies complaining about that. Give it about a year to shake out. We have been through this kind of boom/bust cycle before.
I just graduated in may its difficult I don't even know how a good job market looks like I started my career with this BS market I was the best student in my class still not able to find a place its demoralizing and at the same time the requirements for roles keep increasing what all they want juniors to learn Im so done upskilling myself total waste

It really does feel impossible. I got help with the right resources and things are finally turning around for me. I was laid off from Microsoft and share some tips in my newest video for anyone searching for a role!

We’ve been looking for work for my fiancé in the chemical engineering field. We both graduated as ChemE’s, although I graduated May of last year and he graduated August. I got accepted into a rotational program. He currently works at a grocery store since November 2023. Mexico and Africa are new “India” and “Eastern Europe”. The more and more companies outsource there. Talking about IT industry. Also, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Doha, Katar pay excellent for IT. 2 friends of mine found jobs in Dubai ($160k /year, tax free) and they pack their bags for getting there
They are not hiring internally, they are hiring overqualified and underpayed staff from outside the company.

Build your company bro.
Nice job 🙌
You sound like you have a great mindset and a lot of work under your belt. You'll do great.
Best comment ever! Stop complaining and start doing to summarize.
oh you sweet summer child. companies don't promote internally anymore. they hire externally
Going forward, more people will lose their jobs!!!
Im on the verge of being downsized from a major employer over the next few months. Prospects don’t look good sadly
More and more companies are investing in AI and their own LLMs. To compete with others in the product market, they have to lay off more low-performant engineers and they will be replaced by AI as well.
Leaving the data centre too soon was a bad idea last year I should have stayed more longer until I find a better job. Before I job hop
Situation here is in Bulgaria. IT companies reject most of young people and they cry to news we need people to work in our companies. How when they do this
Hopefully things will get better if we have a new president next year.
It would suck if I get my high school diploma and a certificate from a career center only to find out nobody wants me
This feels so relatable
Everyone was following the job prospect trend. Stop being picky, go for profession(s) that are available, high pay, but not a lot of people go for. You’ll be surprised that you’ll be the least worried person in the labor market.
Money I have saved for retirement will be used now to ride this out. I am calling it a sabbatical. It is what it is.
Love your four advice. ❤
Computers have taken all the good jobs. Only crummy jobs exist. People like to call young people names, and say they do not want to work. Untrue. There just are no jobs out there. People will live 5-10 to an apt, if the lease allows it. The future is either a $100/hr job, or a $10/hr job, no in-betweens.
we truly live in an unprecedented time. tough for people to get ahead these days but I guess we can only try to make the best out of the situation
Hell even crummy jobs aren't all that available
Can't even find warehouse work right now
I had interview with top 25 company and recruiter said they went with their temporary worker over me
All true. Good video
When spending goes down and rates moderate, that's when companies will start to hire again.
sorry to hear about your layoff. hope the rate goes down soon, and you can find something good soon
I am going to be hit too. Tough process and I want to give up!

It should be illegal to leave a job post for months and not hire people.
Nowadays it's important to get a referral for employment interviews, that's how most people are getting hired. It really increases one's chances well above others. It's a tough, tight, and very competitive market right now.
If you're a pretty girl and blow the boss it helps alot too
It's even harder when you have a reading disability But I can read it's just very slow What makes it very hard to find a job what understand
This might help. Think of reading the way you might hear someone speaking. Look for words that will work together to form sentences the way you hear people commonly speak. If the words don’t work as they should, start the sentence over and distinguish which words should be used. Take your time with it. The brain works best when calm. Best of luck to you.
