      +madtv719 As always, Americans are not subject to the international human rights court and this is the sort of price America - and in some cases the entire world - will continue to pay, unless the USA subscribe to international human rights jurisdiction.

      +Rylan Joran Indeed. Even if Bernie wins the presidency, I can't see the US doing this any time soon. Even the Dem's worry about ceding "sovereignty " to international organisations like this. I heard today that the more wealthy parts of Flint had better pipes that didn't leach lead. People must go to jail for this outrage. It's disgusting almost beyond comprehension. Rachel Maddow deserves an award for breaking and sticking with the story.

      +Hal Barbour No, not just Snyder. Anyone who has the clout to make things better and doesn't. The people of Flint should forgo paying the water bills, and use that money to buy water in the mean time. This should be a lesson to everyone. The people are not a priority to this government. It doesn't matter which side of the isle.

    • @halbarbour7805

    3 years later. Still bad water. Still not enough done about it

  • @Ahntara123
    @Ahntara123 9 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Consuming bottled water is also not a good strategy. It would be different if plastic bottles were formed, stored and allowed to stabilize prior to being filled with tap water. They aren't. Unstable, hot plastic is formed and sent, via conveyor belt, to be filled. Those bottles are then stored, sometimes for years and allowed to cool and stabilize while leaching out BPB toxins and other xenoestrogens into that water.

    • @trybal007
      @trybal007 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ahntara123 They should be giving out Berkey water filters, though, that doesn't help very much as up to a quart (litre) of water is absorbed through the skin during bathing.

    • @chownful
      @chownful 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ahntara123 How long does it take a newly molded plastic bottle to stabilize?

    • @Ahntara123
      @Ahntara123 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +chownful I'll defer the answer to that to a scientist. But personally, I would (at the very least) want the plastic to cool off. Truth is, 60+ years of research and we still don't have the full story of the danger plastics pose. One of the possible reasons was uncovered in early testing. Serious consequences did not show up in rats until the 5th and 6th generation from initial exposure. If you look at the timing, that's where the human race is now. Is it just happenstance that we have skyrocketing rates of autism, endocrine issues, developmental problems? Wish I could provide you specific info. Some of it simply isn't available (yet). If you're truly interested, just do a bit of research and start using glass.

    • @chownful
      @chownful 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahntara123 I don't consume bottled water often, but I don't know if it is as harmful as you are saying. I was always under the assumption that you had to store the water in the plastic bottle for years before any detectable amount leeched into the water.

    • @chownful
      @chownful 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Actually The Environmental Protection Agency's regional administrator for Flint, Michigan, has resigned. Susan Hedman was appointed by Obama . Susan Hedman was appointed by President Barack Obama to be EPA Region 5 Administrator on Earth Day 2010. Read the emails released from Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder. Hedman was quoted in the Detroit News saying her office was told April 2015 that the switch of drinking water for residents from Lake Huron to Flint River could bring contamination. But she failed to tell anyone including the Governor. When this is all over the EPA will be blamed for this. The Governor didn't order the change in the water. It was the Flint city council and the democrat Mayor Dayne Walling who changed it.

    I can't believe that this wasn't a well known issues publicly and that people didn't talk about it, until months and months after it happened.
    Thousands and thousands of children and people of all ages have been poisoned. And are still getting poisoned, while the people who did this are getting away with it. How can people turn a blind eye to so much suffering and injustice? This makes me feel so sick and emotional that this has happened.

    The Utility Director (water boss) of Flint who created this mess in the first place
    (Howard Croft) was black. His qualification as Director?
    He installed SOLAR PANELS. He knew nothing of chemistry or water treatment. 7 of the 9 members of the Flint City Council & who voted for the changes and who hired incompetent Croft were black, 7 of 9.
    Yet it is the white Governors fault? Snyder did not hire Croft or create this mess. This was an easily preventable event if water stabilizer was added to the water and would have cost less than a penny a person a month. Yet the black director did not know to do this as they do not teach this in SOLAR PANEL school. Want the truth? I have hundreds of hours of water treatment training so I know this.

    Even if they claim to fix the water supply, I highly recommend capturing snow and/or rain water from now on. Stainless steel water tanks for those who can afford them. Maybe neighbors on one block can go in together on one tank. Or food grade plastic barrels (used to hold cattle feed). Filter, filter, filter your rain/snow water, then BOIL. Have your OWN supply that falls from the sky right into your storage unit.

    How is this the governor's problem when this is a city situation. Why is Mike Moore blaming the governor when this has to do with the city water supply administered by the city government?
    It's obvious. The governor has an (R) next to his name and city mayor & council are ALL (D)'s. If the political situation was reversed, I guarantee he would be blaming the city government.

      The Governor appointed "emergency city managers' a few years ago, people whose authority super-cedes the local administration and reports directly to the governor

    Is the Governor going to be held accountable? Of course not. Instead some middle manager or department head they can find a way to blame this all on will have their career and life destroyed.

    I wonder if the people in Pavilion, Wy think about all the concern about the Flint water when they could get nothing done about their water problems.

    The situation in Michigan is not unique, in 2007 the interstate highway 35W bridge in downtown Minneapolis Minnesota fell in to the Mississippi River due to "lack of proper maintenance coupled with a poor structural design", but that only touches on one dimension of the problem, and the minimal problem at that--the MAJOR problem, as in Flint, that THE MONEY WAS AVAILABLE, BUT IT WAS BEING SPENT ON CUSHY SALARIES AND FAT EXPENSE ACCOUNTS AND TONEY ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE BUILDINGS... it's also being diverted to maintain the tax breaks and loopholes that funnel money directly into the pocket of Richard Rich, enabling that class of classical criminals to cash in off the plunder that the financial sector!is complicit in wreaking on the general population... The water POISONING that Herr governor Snyder initiated CANNOT go unpunished, and he SHOULD BE SUBJECT to appropriate sentence :LIFE IN PRISON...

    i just cannot get over EVERY SINGLE CHILD IN FLINT UNDER 6 -- that's 8000 children -- being poisoned and probably permanently damaged because of some VERY minor budget savings. if ever there were a reason to vote for #berniesanders it would be this. #feelthebern and get democrats back in office, strengthen the middle class, and bring prosperity back to our nation.

    In all respect for Moore, he stuffs himself with the most horrible unhealthy fast food crap day in day out and will in fact die on some heart related disease because you is unable get his addiction to food under control. What he does to his body is maybe almost as bad as drinking that water.
