  • There are so many habits (good and bad) that make us who we are, but there may be some that we don't have just yet - the good news is that new habits can be formed at any time!
    So what 10 Habits do we suggest for runners to try and form?

    Knowing I'll feel better in the morning is the drive that gets me to sleep early that night. Definitely the best tip! =D Sleep is king!

    I know this is a very basic habit that's been said thousands of times, but choosing my running outfit and laying it out at the front door so it greets me when I get home from work (or early in the morning) takes at least some of the effort out of the decision to run when it's time to get moving. It's like my fun running socks are calling my name. 😂

    Strava logs how many miles you've done in your shoes. You just have to remember to select which shoes you were wearing after each run.

      The Garmin app does as well. A year or so ago I tried out a Coros and its Android app surprisingly didn't support gear tracking

      Yes it's so easy, Strava really does that for you. As a visual guy with quite a few shoes I not only name them uniquely but also put little colourful dots in front of their names matching their colours so I find them quicker on the list, like "🟢🟡🪶 Brooks Hyperion Tempo mint green/ neon yellow feather, size 38, from 04/2022" as they are as lightweight as a feather 🥰

    Me planning a workout in advance: "Oh, it's a 45 minute workout, I can get up at 6:00." Me actually working out now that I'm older and can't just gambol about like a bunny and not stretch: roll out of bed and procrastinate (10 mins) + dress and procrastinate more (10 mins) + go outside and look at the trees (5 mins) + dynamic warm up movements (5 mins) + 1 mile warm up (about 9 mins) + workout (45 mins) + 1 mile cool down (about 9 mins) + core workout (10 mins) + stretching (10 mins) + shower (10 mins) = late to work every time

    Hey, love watching your video! Started out 4 months ago since I wanted to run a 10k. You videos, especially your training plans have helped me get in the habit of running but also anchored me to having fun whilst I do it! Ran my 10k yesterday and was so happy of the achievement! Def's will be running more, with the goal of a half mara, so will continue to look for advice and running habits and info from you! Thank you for your work!

    I like the idea of tracking mileage on shoes. I record everything for my coach in my training plan, and I can easily note the shoes I wore. Means I could feel less guilty if I buy new shoes as I can justify. I imagine the cushioning might go before you can see enough wear on the soles. And at 70 I need the cushioning to be good in my Hokas. Ah.... but I need to do this from when I get new shoes.🤔 oohhh goodee, new shoes 😁

      Lots of people say Hoka foam bricks out early in the process. At 70 I'll need to keep fresh kicks all the time. Ok ok im 52 and I started now lol. My rotation all have under 150 miles. Boston 11, and Boston 12 Tempo and Race Day shoe, Nike rn4 and Asics Novablast4 daily trainer. Long run ghost max takes the place of my now retired squish squish squish New Balance fresh foam more v4.

    1) I wake up and get dressed in running clothe; then, since I’m in running clothes, I might as well go for a run. 2) I’ve never had a problem with single knotting, except with one particular pair of shoes, and changing the laces fixed that. 3) I used to weigh 320 pounds; the ability to move my body is something I’m grateful for in of itself. 4) I drink 6 to 8 litres of fluid a day. 5) I’ve never had an injury from running beyond once tripping on a sidewalk after sliding on gravel, and I attribute that to doing a good job of listening to my body and understanding the difference between soreness and pain. 6) I track all my shoes, and I do regular analysis on how well they’re performing. 7) For most runs, my warmup is alternating between walking and jogging. 8) when I go into a run with a set plan, I’m way more likely make bad decisions contrary to #5 on the list - if I have a plan, I’m much more likely to stick to it, even when sticking to it is stupid. 9) I like alternating between walking and stretching to cooldown. 10) Sleep is the best performance enhancing drug.

    Being ADHD and OCD running and gym becomes the habit, what we fail at is rest days as if we or I don't do something active I don't function as well but that leads to fatigue especially now im early 50'S its a viscous circle but we try to do our best and be the best version of ourselves... 100k come on whoop whoop

    Not to say that a double knot could be useful to 100% make sure your shoelace won't come undone, but a lot of people tie their shoelace knot incorrectly into a less stable version without realizing and slap the double knot on top of it without understanding the actual problem. Here's how you can test if your shoelace knot is correct:
    1. Tie your shoes as normal without a double knot or anything extra.
    2. See how the loops and ends of the laces want to orient themselves.
    If they orient themselves parallel to the laces as they come out of the last eyelet, you're good. However, if they want to orient themselves at an angle relative to the base of the knot, you've tied a granny knot which is markedly less stable, especially under repeated loading like when running.
    Here's a TED talk: th-cam.com/video/zAFcV7zuUDA/w-d-xo.html
    And a Numberphile video to illustrate the point: th-cam.com/video/XPIgR89jv3Q/w-d-xo.html

    I am Neuro divergent (dyslexia and ADHD) so forming habits is very heard for me. I have recently had a year and a half off due to injury and in that time my ADHD symptoms got worse, I need exercise to help cope with them but find it nearly impossible to form new habits and pathological demand avoidance makes a regular routine very difficult. As you are a teacher do you have any advise?

    • @dimitar297

    Re habit 1 if I bother to dress up in training gear I have already made the decision to exercise. So being at the door going out helps not. I am satisfied when I get back in after exercise. No matter how it went even if I aborted mud training because I did the best I could that time. There is no 100 + % so getting to temporal 100 % is a win.

    • @ThisMessyHappy
      @ThisMessyHappy  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      You’re further down the line. People who struggle with exercise discipline have shown that building the space in their life first is a crucial phase. The guy in Atomic Habits was even restricted to 5mins of gym work per session, he just had to get to the gym and create the habit of finding time for exercise. It’s so interesting 😊

    • @JanneRasanen2
      @JanneRasanen2 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ThisMessyHappy I am so lazy that if I make the effort of dressing up that is my personal space creation thus a win. YMMV The commitment for me happens not at a thought of I might train but at right this is happening so I need to dress up so a single step before the door.

    tracking milage on shoes is not great advice for the wide range of runners who watch your videos. Rather, track time. A slower runner who runs for an hur is running fewer miles than someone running 6 min/mile for the same hour. Someone running 12/min/mile will wear their shoes out in half the miles (all other things being equal, over the same time.
