The fact that the judge is telling him as part of his 10th conviction for criminal contempt for violating the gag order that he doesn't want to have to put him in jail because he's a former president clearly demonstrates the amount of privilege that is being shown to trump. Any other criminal defendant would have already been jailed.

I totally agree. Our Justice system does not apparently have anyone with a real sense of duty. They are happy to put the "average joe" in jail and collect their checks, but at the end of the day they all seem to be cowards.

It's not that he can't keep his mouth shut (definitely part of it) but that thinks he's being treated unfairly because he can't just say anything he wants to say. Free speech doesn't include the things he says. He just doesn't want to stop and his lawyers have no control over his mouth. Guilty people act the way he does. Many of those are already in prison for crimes they've committed and deny doing. They'll never face reality because they can't admit the horrendous acts they've committed. Only monsters act that way.

He can't. The law only allows up to a 1k fine per violation. When the judge imposed it, he remarked that it was a bad law.

I don't care that Trump is a former president, and neither should Judge Merchan! If Trump deserves jail for his gag order violations, let him be jailed. He doesn't deserve respect or special treatment.
Where has there been other cases with similar statues that are getting gag order fines or jail for this offense? Would be hard pressed to find them since we have this thing called the first amendment and that allows free speech. Even the ACLU is upset with the gag orders. No special treatment here.

I am more and more disappointed every day. I am at the point where I am losing any shred of hope that justice will be served in this case.

If justice is actually served, he won't be charged since this doesn't qualify under the criminal statutes. It's like making lemonade out of dirt, you can say its lemonade but everyone else knows it missing the main ingredients to make it.
For those focusing on this being the 10th contempt finding: it is the 10th finding for events that happened _before_ he actually had the first contempt hearing. It’s not like he got the contempt rulings one at a time and then committed contempt again after each one.
Prosecutors haven’t filed any motions yet to hold him in contempt for events occurring after that first hearing was held IIRC. Downside of giving his defense team a week to prepare to defend against the contempt motion was technically during that week they didn’t have a ruling. Now they do, so there’s less “this is unclear” wiggle room.
A better way to think of it: this is the result of his 2nd contempt hearing. Next one is likely to be the third strike.

Why does this judge NOT want to do this????? Enough with the fines and the weak warnings. He's not going to listen so play the jail card for heaven sakes!!!!!!!
Because he knows trump will turn the whole thing into a circus.
The reason why is the judge is preserving the record for the eventual appeal. Judge Merchan even acknowledges that he knows the relatively small fines will not deter Trump. But by being slow to incarcerate Trump, the judge is preventing the argument on appeal of judicial bias.
It certainly indicates that even if convicted of criminal fraud he will not receive a strong sentence. This is not encouraging for our democracy or the rule of law. I hope the judge will not make that mistake.
Maybe because he knows it will galvanize the right, and only strengthen turn out.
@@pushthedesign Agreed; Trump has a history of dragging absolutely everything out on appeal and throwing lawyers at every problem. Judge Merchan is wise to make it obvious to the world that he gave the defendant many more chances than he would normally give.
These violations void bail so as on bail 4 triails. Will be in jail

tRump has show nothing but contempt for this court, and the entire Justice system. Lock him up.
T-Rump is not above the law. He cannot get away with these egregious acts of breaking the law and getting away with it. Even though I dont know what laws he broke, exactly, Im sure he is guilty and just needs to go to prison4life. Put him in solitary and let him suffer.
