The former causes the blade to vibrate FAST, allowing it to cut through flesh and steel with incredible ease and has been a staple for nearly every major sword-wielding Metal Gear character since MGS1, at least. What makes Sam's Murasama unique is that the blade's quality was already impressive BEFORE the modifications were made. The latter is more straightforward: without the proper ID, a weapon simply won't work. As silly as it sounds to ID lock a sword, it stands to reason that its HF Mode would've been rendered useless until the lock was disabled. However, once Raiden returned sword to its scabbard following his fight with Sam (at Wolf's request), it pretty much locked him out of ever using the sword until its timer expired. That last part is mostly speculation, but since MGS4 gave us a full demonstration on how ID-locked weapons work (you can load it, but it won't fire), this likely operates the same way.

To answer the question about how Armstrong is so strong: He has nanomachines in his body that harden where physical trauma occurs. Basically: You hit him in the head and the head turns into metal for a few seconds as the nanomachines harden in that part of the body. So yeah, _Nanomachines, son!_
A fun little detail about some of the nanomachines used in MGS, especially Armstrong's, that is often overlooked: They're battery powered. Without a means to replenish that energy, it will die out eventually (this is how Snake's CODEC eventually went out at the end of MGS1), and Armstrong's insanely tough skin requires an intense amount of power to be utilized properly. If you're patient enough and/or fast enough, you CAN wear down his body faster than the nanomachines can properly restore/protect it. By the final QTE sequence, you can see the literal cracks in Armstrong's armored skin (mostly in the arms), the result of Raiden's lightning-fast precision with Sam's HF Murasama.

Platinum Games, the developers behind MGRising, has a knack for this kind of set-up, but it doesn't mean much if they don't stick the landing that is the the game's finale. Thankfully, they're (usually) very good at that. "Bayonetta", another action game from Platinum Games, is probably the best example in this regard. The instant you select your difficulty, you've got less than a minute, between loading and showing the briefest of cutscenes, before the game throws you into the playable firestorm that is the "Clock Tower" sequence from the first game. No UI or on-screen instructions explaining how to play the game, much less clue you in to the fact that it IS playable. All you've got is yourself and another crimson-clad buddy/partner/person(?) named Jeanne fighting off angelic-looking monster-things atop the tumbling remains of a clock tower, defying the laws of gravity, all while "One of a Kind" is playing over the action, and a mysterious narrator exposits on the rise and fall of the Lumen Sages and Umbra Witches. The best part? It's not even the tutorial proper; that comes right after, with all the trappings that it entails. Sure, I don't think you can lose this sequence, but there's not many games that line up to your requirements as nicely as this one. "NieR: Automata", also made by Platinum, is a close second. Gameplay mechanics are implemented into the story, slowly unlocking over the course of the prologue, and unlike "Bayonetta", you CAN lose (doing so gives you a joke text-only ending). I won't elaborate much further. As for games NOT made by Platinum Games, there's the original "Bombing Run" sequence from FF7, and possibly the first stage Ikaruga (at least, in its presentation), a shoot-em-up (or "shmup") by Treasure that DOES have an in-game story, if you bother to read the on-screen flavor text throughout your run. For example, during his description of the final boss fight, at around 25:53 of this video, he says, "This guy beats up more biracial people than a police officer!" The "joke" gets funnier once you know that: 1.) Raiden is an albino Liberian-American immigrant. Mistral touches on this briefly, but it's only really elaborated on in MGS2. 2.) Jetstream Sam, who fought Armstrong in-story (via DLC), is Japanese-Brazilian. 3.) And now that you've had some time to process the line itself, you've got the "rest" of the punchline. Even better, he manages to (roughly) touch on the following within 33 seconds (15:57-16:30): -The premise of "Steel Ball Run", a story arc in "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" (without outright spoiling it). -A very, very brief summary (also incorrectly) of MGS4, trying to "explain" his last line about the "Guns of the Patriot Act". -The ending of MGS4, somehow NOT necessarily spoiling the significance of the scene itself. -A few political jabs (George W. MGRising was originally planned to focus on this, but that obviously didn't happen. You still get plenty of characterization from Sunny across MGS4 and Rising, so it's better than nothing.
Metal Gear Rising will never get a sequel. Not because of sales or popularity. But because Konami fired Kojima not long after before MGSV was finished. But because Konami is also just the worst company ever in Japan terms at least because they would rather make shitty pachinko machines than use their ips or even license them out to other developers. Its funny because before Rising came out even there were many hardcore MGS fans that hated it and shat on it because it wasn't traditional metal gear. After that it persisted but the people who played it loved and praised it because it was a great, and surprisingly deep when looked into, aside from being a completely batshit story in the universe. Now years later after multiple meme revivals and even the Max0r review near immortalized it its more popular now than ever before. Vtubers are now streaming it as well as the rest of the MGS series.

@@garr_inc To clarify: Sunny is a girl Raiden saves between the events of MGS2 and MGS4; the exact details are never elaborated on outside of her mother playing a part in the events of MGS2 and Raiden becoming "more machine than man" after the experience...or something. MGRising was originally planned to focus on this, but that obviously didn't happen. You still get plenty of characterization from Sunny across MGS4 and Rising, so it's better than nothing.

Metal Gear Rising will never get a sequel. Not because of sales or popularity. But because Konami fired Kojima not long after before MGSV was finished. But because Konami is also just the worst company ever in Japan terms at least because they would rather make shitty pachinko machines than use their ips or even license them out to other developers.
Its funny because before Rising came out even there were many hardcore MGS fans that hated it and shat on it because it wasn't traditional metal gear. After that it persisted but the people who played it loved and praised it because it was a great, and surprisingly deep when looked into, aside from being a completely batshit story in the universe.
Now years later after multiple meme revivals and even the Max0r review near immortalized it its more popular now than ever before. Vtubers are now streaming it as well as the rest of the MGS series.
