I honestly did not find the outer pocket convenient. If I overpack the bag, I can barely get my laptop in the outer pocket. I have to tug to get it out, which is not the best thing for my torn rotator cuff. I prefer the carry on plus. I'll carry my laptop in my personal bag.

I've been using this bag for about 18 months now. It's gone on multiple road trips and over 12 flights. It's been checked luggage on two occasions (usually it's my carryon though). It has performed fantastically for me. I travel with my MacBook Air 13" and iPad Pro that I travel with, in addition to the all cables/chargers; those live in the outer pocket. I can easily travel for a week--even in cold weather situations--with this bag. I absolutely love it. It looks practically new, despite quite a lot of use and abuse. Best things: SILENT wheels, extension handle that is long enough for me to use comfortably (6 ft/183 cm), compression straps that are amazing for a small suitcase, durable, highly water resistant. I've even taken it successfully on my folding bike to get to/from airports and train stations! It's narrow enough and light enough that I can do that!

I was debating between Monos luggage sizes too and whether to get the pro or not and you answered all my questions! I also love that you bring up taking international travel into consideration, which is something that I def. would’ve forgotten about!

I've enjoyed your travel videos and have been moving in the direction of carry-on only. I have purchased the Carry On Pro and the Medium Check In. I've found that I do not really use a large check in bag, so I didn't purchase that one. I DID purchase the Metro Duffel this week with a credit from my luggage purchase. I really appreciate that you do the measure test on carry-on luggage. So many brands advertise as carry-on but the dimensions just don't add up. I always worry that I might not be able to carry it on. I wish that companies would just build them to fit (feet to handle) w/i most airline guidelines. And, that goes double for international travel. Thanks
Thank you! I really wish that, too! Just simply “international size” and “large carry on”. Don’t even get me started on the airlines that only allow 11-15 pounds of a carry on/personal item combination!!
I didn’t ever want an outer pocket until i did super budget airline flying where I couldn’t have another bag. It was nice to have a place for my phone and documents

I love your video's. Would you recommend this pro bag over July's? I'm skeptical about the removal front, but is seems to fit a bigger laptop.
Thank you! I’ve seen the july in person, but I don’t own it, so I haven’t been able to put stuff in it. I understand about the removable front, but it does seem pretty secure.
The good thing about that is that you can always take it off and hold it (if it gets checked, for example) vs the Monos you would have to take it out and hold it.
This Monos carry on pro isn’t always going to be my first choice of luggage to take; even though I do travel with my laptop on 100% of my trips.
To be honest, I’d rather have the luggage of my choice and put my laptop in my personal item.

I have this bag and while i love it, the pro pocket takes away from what you can pack. With the bag fully packed, the outside pocket becomes harder to use. I am strongly considering the carry on plus for this reason.
I’m much more of a regular carry on person, and using my personal item instead of the outside pocket :) I need all of the packing space
Great review. You answered a lot of questions I had. My biggest concern is that it is too big and I may have to check it. If so then I'll purchase the Plus. Can you speak on the probability of having to check this bag? We're going to England in 2 months so I have time to make a decision.
If you get the regular size carry-on, and not the plus, then you should be able to bring it. They fit on just about every airline there is. The stingy ones internationally often times can weigh bags, but size wise its perfect :)

Great review as always! Considering I typically fly Delta domestic and my work is about to start sending me Delta one for international do you think I could go carry-on plus? And would you go pro plus or just regular plus?
As long as your Delta doesn’t become KLM on an Amsterdam layover or Air France on a Paris layover, you could be fine. I do have another one you’re going to want to check out next week too!
@@ItsTheKellys good point to always consider! For years, I worked for a company that had an exclusive UAL contract, which meant our international/Europe flights became KLM. People should always take this possibility in account when Purchasing a carry-on. If anything, I always size down, just to be safe!

I know you hate to check in luggage. If I didn’t have physical limitations I would have bought a July or Monos carry-on already. Any chance of your reviewing checked bags? For example, I love the compression of this bag that you talked about - but packing extra inches in a carry-on for me reads: ooh too heavy. But that feature in a checked bag would be awesome. Or knowing how well a carry-on bag fared if checked in. My daughter flew home to the US from Paris via Frankfurt and she had an 8KG weight limit, so we checked her carry-on with me bc I had 2 free checked bags on Delta direct from Paris. I don’t review check in luggage only because they are the same exact model as the carry on, only bigger. If a company is going to only send me 1 bag, I want to be able to get one that I can eventually test out for viewers on my travels :)

This bag is fine, there is nothing wrong with it. Do I prefer their hybrid model over this one? Yes. Is there a better Pro bag out there? I think Yes? I haven’t decided yet. But that will be another video :)

Thank you for all your reviews they are a wealth of information. I am someone who does travel and now wants to invest in doing carry-on luggage and hard shell. Would you say that the Monos carry on pro bag would be great for both domestic and international flights? I am torn and I will be doing international next year on several different flights. The one thing I miss though is the phone charging capability so with that said, which is the better carry on from Monos?
The regular size Monos will be internationally sized, yes. However, I do recommend the carry or or even carry on hybrid vs a pro bag. Simply because of the depth you lose for packing, and if it gets gate checked, you have to take your items out of the front pocket. (Like your laptop)
Would love to see the Monos carry on pro against the July carry on pro. Want an exterior pocket feature - love the battery and detachable exterior pocket of July, but worried about the the size of the July carry on pro being technically over most U.S. carrier limits.
I don’t have that one, but don’t let the battery entince you, it’s not great. Don’t worry about July’s sizing, it’s not that big. You can get away with it on all airlines

Absolutely! I can make any carry on work for 2+ weeks
should try the lojel cubo small, it uses a flat-top opening, making the sacrifice in depth unnoticeable

I had purchased a carryon before that had a pocket on the outside. I found that when I put clothes in the carry on it interfere with the outside pocket. I wasn’t able to use it properly. Is that an issue with this carry on? Is there a barrier between the inside and the outside pocket? Plus can you use this to travel international?

I haven’t traveled yet since I just got it, but let me mock pack it and let you know! And yes, this sizing is just like any other Monos regular carry on, perfect for international! Just look at weight restrictions on budget airlines!

Hi, just curious how big is the laptop that you put in the video? I have two MacBook Pros that are about 14.5” x 9.75” big and about 0.5” deep each… would love to put at least one of those in the front pocket that’ll make the travel so much easier!
Mine is a 13” MacBook Air.
Do keep in mind that if they make you check your bag for any reason, you need to have a personal item that can fit your laptop too. 🧡

I got an email from Monos and they are having a sale until March 27 for up to 25% off. What do you recommend to be the best, carry-on or carry-on plus? Or are both good due to where you travel?
The plus is bigger so it will only be good for domestic US travel. A lot of international airlines are too strict for that sizing :) so it’s up to you on where you usually travel! :)
This evening I packed my Monos Carry-on pro for the first time ! A 4 days trip. SOOOOO disappointed . I had a hard time closing the suitcase ( I use compression cubes ) when the same stuff fits easily in my old Ricardo soft side. I am not over packing as we will be driving I can use another bag if I need it . I was ready to exchange for the regular Carry -on to get the extra space taken by the Pro external section but I could hardly pull the handle. Even after re-arranging items and taking out 2 light pieces of clothing. I am returning it and I am frustrated that I have to pay twice for shipping ( I am also returning the protection cover )
I’ll be traveling to Dubai, Greece, Rome, and Amsterdam. My trip is about a month long. Would you recommend the Mono Carry On or Carry on Hyrbrid for international flights?
What an awesome trip! Either one would be fine! They are sooo similar in size! I love the hybrid the best, but mostly because it’s zipperless and sooooo pretty.

Thank you for your informative reviews! I ordered the Away Flex Carry On & the Monos Carry On prior to finding your videos. I need the expansion of the Away Flex Carry On but prefer the Monos compartments, look, and scratch-resistance. Do you know if Monos is coming out with an expandable carry on (hard case) anytime soon? I've also heard stuffing the Monos carry can cause the handle to not fully expand. Have you heard about this issue?
I saw Monos reply to someone one day that new styles are coming soon…. And the person had asked about expansions. And I have fully packed all 3 of my Monos suitcases and I’ve never had that issue :)

I must say, I appreciate your *honest reviews* . I did recall that we shared a pet peeve in the outer pockets. In my opinion, it was just another thing to break, couldn’t understand why they were not secured with TSA locks, and did detract from the interior packing dimension.
But you admitted that, and that combined with your appreciation of Monos quality and design made me watch the entire video!! However it was hard to concentrate on the green pro when I could only see the champagne hybrid trunk behind you.
Personally, I don’t need the pocket and if I do have my laptop and other business items in my personal item. 1) for security, 2) because I will probably use it on the flight and 3) because going through TSA with a TSA compliant flap is a lot easier than taking your laptop and other items out to put them in the bin.
Monos definitely takes time in their designs, and if anything they remind me of my great, great grandparents steamer trunks that were still in our attic in England hen I was a child.
Some people like a compartment for everything and some people do not and I am in the second category. But for all of those, and there are many, who prefer organization embedded, this is definitely a bag to consider!!
I admit, I got this one for a “viewer appreciation video” moreso than for *me* to benefit from. I, too, put my laptop in personal item.
I could see myself using it on one of those airlines where their personal item is barely existant!

HI there.... i want to order these bags and the website shows the colour 'purple icing' which is the colour i want. when you try to order it says it is not in stock and communication back and forth with Monos says they have no idea when it will be available. I want to order the large check in, medium check in, carry on pro and backpack all in the same colour and i would be happy to get them all together. Do you have any insight as to when that can happen? or pull to get them to release that colour again. It's disappointing that they show it on the website but cant make it available?
I know it was a limited edition about a year ago. I doubt they will bring it back out, as they would probably do something new, but I don’t know for sure.

Wish there was a lock for the laptop area. Its where your most valuable item goes. If you leave your hotel you can put your laptop in the locked area but someone can still open the laptop area and cut open the luggage.
I know :( there are two circles on the zipper to attach a travel lock if you were worried.
I love this carry on but as a Canadian travelling on Air Canada or WestJet they require the carry on to be 21” or 21.5” so this Canadian made bag won’t meet the requirements?? 😢
But my beis bag is 22.8 and it fits in the air Canada sizer! I’ll take my Monos to the airport this weekend to test it 💜

Whats the difference between Carry on Pro and the Carry on? Is it just the pocket that makes it pro? They look the same dimensions.
Yes, just the outside pocket. Same dimensions. Which means it takes away a little bit of packing space on the inside to have the pocket.
So is the July one with the pocket the next one ? That’s what I’m curiosi to see you compare to

I have this bag and the Monos compression cubes. I also am not sure about them yet…I’d love to see how you use them together. Supposedly Away cubes are meant to fit the Away case perfectly, but I haven’t seen if that works for Monos.
I think they do fit perfectly, I packed them the other day for a photoshoot… but they aren’t honestly my favorite packing cubes.

@@nurseloco2003 I'm playing around with different compression cubes, but my all time favorite packing cubes are from ebags. I have used them for 10 years. I travel with a medium one and fit all of my clothes for 1-2 weeks in it, and the small will fit my undergarments and my bathing suits (if needed)
The medium fits in 1/2 of a side of a carry on hard luggage, the large fits in an entire side, and the small is 1/4 of the side.

Not big fan of the front pocket, I can't barely fit my laptop when my bag is packed and I'm packed light!! I think you better off just getting the carry on version really

I havent. I dont find Monos luggage to get scratched easily. I tested it by throwing it on cement and scratching it on there and it didn’t scratch. If you were continually checking it, maybe, but it’s pretty indestructible

A few points: 1) they weigh a ton. That carry on if on a plane where there is no weight limit, all good. If there is a weight limit then way too heavy. 2)22in is too big. All airlines are limited to 21in including the wheels. So this is for those annoying travelers who put their carry-ons sideways in the bins and take way too much room for their own goods. Do you pay premium price for a product that is suitable for car traveling and trains but not flying. This suitcase needs to be checked in no matter what the a,bas sad or and monos have to say about it. For an inch. They should have thought their things better. This is from someone who slowed down a lot but used to fly 60-75 times a year. So they may fit but be aware that you might be asked to check your bag at the gate. Anything check in from monos is just too heavy, at 10,5lbs, when limited to 44lbs (20kg) or 50lbs (23kg), is way too much.
1) I’ve been to 91 countries and I’ve only been weighed twice.
2) it’s 45 linear inches total, which most airlines in the world allow. I made a list of 160+ airlines and their allowances for carry on and personal items :)
@@ItsTheKellys It is very true though, the length has increased from 21 to 22 in or 21.5 my bad. it’s not just a matter of linear length, if the bin does not close, you have to put it sideways and this is when you become an annoyance for your fellow travelers. In the bins, and I am sure you know that, length is king unless you just don’t care. Weight, sure they do not weight the carry on very often, they go by the looks of it, thanks god. It still weighs a way too much. That carry on weighs as much as my 30in so their checked luggage is like 10+ pounds if I remember well. 2-wheelers give you a few more liters to play with in you carry-on. Unfortunately since you have to pay for every checked-in nowadays, the number of carry-ons have exploded. So I guess it’s time to change my 15 years 21in for a 22 then…😂
@flipper3691 I promise I have flown with this size Monos several times and have been able to put it in the bin long ways :) it’s the “bigger” or “plus” size of these carry ons bags that are too big
My friend’s Monos started getting holes on the outer shell. She reached out to the company and they didn’t respond, so she wrote a review and they deleted it from their site, so unfortunately, I can’t trust their reviews!

This is just my own personal review. I own every Monos suitcase and bag, and have traveled with them all and loaned them out to people, and haven’t had any problems.
@@ItsTheKellys coming back to say I ended up ordering the hybrid carry on because of you 🫣 I watched so many reviews and it seemed like the perfect combo of what I was looking for! Facebook has a 20% off coupon if you buy it though the Facebook shop and I could stack a 15% off coupon so it ended up being $243!
Buyers beware and do more research. I cannot recommend Monos at all. I do love the design of the monos bags. The overall reviews have been great. I purchased the large check in as well as the carry on pro. My issue is with the carry on pro and their customer service. I already knew the Carey on pro has less room to pack due to the front pocket. My issue is also with the telescoping handles with my carry on pro. I tried it super packed and half packed. The handle would lock and not allow me to extend it. Here’s what they told me:
“Our telescopic handles are designed at a 45-degree angle, dispersing pressure on the handles when pushing and pulling to prevent bending and lateral lag while turning and rolling the suitcase. However, if the luggage is overpacked, the pressure against the handles may force them away from the 45-degree angle, creating resistance and potentially causing the handle to become stuck.
Please try this simple remedy: flip the overpacked luggage over and place it on its top side to create a stable base. Then, apply firm pressure on the handle side while holding it in place. Simultaneously, pull the handle up to return it to its original 45-degree position. I have also attached an instructional video for your reference.
If this does not solve your issue, it would be a huge help for us if you could provide us with the following:
1. Short video of the telescopic handle retracting with the suitcase empty.
2. When did the concern with the handle start? Does it have any dents?
3. Short video of the inside tubes of the handle. You should be able to see this by opening the interior lining with the inverted zipper.“
I tried all that. I was able to extend the handles but it takes me so much effort to do this plus I need a flat surface to flip my luggage over and lay it flat to do this. This actually aggravated my carpal tunnel. Way too much effort for a handle! My cheaper luggages and samsonite never gave me these issues. This is even with my luggage half packed! Let alone customer support sucks! You can’t speak to anyone only via chat. I submitted a claim and it takes weeks to respond. I just want this exchange since I already invested so much or even refunded. I will never buy from this brand again based on this experience. They do look sleek and I love the inner compartment design. But no matter how pretty a luggage is, if it’s that hard to use the handle there’s no point. I want to warn everyone about this. There are better options.
