All the old monogrammed things are so cool! I think it would be so great to live in a time when people had such beautiful desk sets, covers for their match boxes, opera glasses and chatelaines. Like you, I like to think of the people who used these gorgeous things in their everyday lives. Such a fun video.

    • @TheFunkyPickleThrifter

Yes, you worded it beautifully! We are all living such crazy busy lives that it’s hard to find time for some of the “niceties”. It’s just a different world now, but many of us can still appreciate the beauty of these old objects. Thanks for watching!!! Hugs.

Love your video! The little wristlets would hold a lady's powder and applicator, some coins and their dance card. I think these are wonderful and have one of my own. They were usually given as gifts and were nickel silver so they were more affordable than the silver plate or sterling wristlets. Wonderful haul!

Those triangle things were to put at the corners of a desk blotter.
When using fountain pens, you need to blot the ink!!!
The blotter also protects the wood of your desk when you are writing and helps the pen move smoothly over the paper.
Often the blotter would be mounted on a leather “frame” and the brass corners go over those corners too!

The 4 brass triangle shapes go on the corners of a desk blotter. The bullet piece is probably a letter opener. When my uncle was stationed in the Philippines during World War II, he brought this sort of letter opener back home to my mother.

The brass frame is likely for a perpetual calendar, and the oval box likely was to hold different denominations of stamps &/or paper clip like stuff that they would use at the time.

  • @ladysylvia4018
    @ladysylvia4018 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hello! As to the desk set the corners are for a desk blotter, another piece was for paper calendar, round box was for stamps. I love the purses, I have quite a few. Chinese pieces are probably 1930’s.

Some thoughts about the fork and knife sets. In the old days, couples went on elegant picnics. One thought is that these were intended that. The other thought is if two gentlemen went hunting or simply out riding, these would be easy to take along if they stopped for a meal.

Oh my that Boatswain's whistle cracks me up. I found one in a jewelry bag and didn't know what it was. So I asked my husband and we both agreed it looked like a hashish pipe. I said why would they put this in a jewelry bag and wouldn't someone burn their lips smoking out of it? Lol. I put it in my drawer and forgot about it til this video. I tried it and it's pretty loud. Now I know I can sell it online and not to a drug dealer.😊 Love your channel

I participated in a local radio station yard sale in my city, about 15 yrs ago….It is an annual event….I brought all kinds of stuff….I had a beautiful Fenton Blue Coin Spot footed rose bowl….I priced it at $30.00
This one woman kept stopping by and asking if I would sell it for $10. Then $15. And I turned her down…she started complaining very loudly that I would never get $30. For it. Then she stormed off..
She returned 30 mins later and said in a angry voice….Okay!!!..$30. Dollars!!!😡😡😡
I picked up my rose bowl off the table and looked her straight in the eye, and I said…It’s not for sale to you.👊👊👊👊
Her mouth feel to her knees, then she stormed off into oblivion….🤣🤣🤣🤣👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽
I still own that rose bowl to this day.🤣🤣🤣🤣
