The 'practice outside of professional settings' is more than likely due to how the personal love relationship journey has been romanticized to where you're supposed to be able to 'pick your person off the vine' without any adjustments. It's something everyone has to unlearn within their personal settings and then build in more practice so that healthy communication becomes automatic and the norm.
