Is the NEW Evernote Home really better? Well, I have some suggestions.

  • The #Evernote mobile apps for #Android and #iOS have changed a lot over time. But one thing all the versions have in common is the struggle to strike a balance between using the notes we already have and capturing fresh info.

Really love the new Mobile Home, since I use the mobile more for capturing (new note for spontaneous ideas, scanning a document) and that is just at your fingertips on the new Home. Still love your 'new impressions', always food for thought😊

For people who use the app like you, the new Home is terrific. Not my case, though 😞. That new Home is now creating friction in my system. I have yet to utilize it.

Why don't you suggest that they do the same as todoist did, they let you choose what will be in the bottom bar, up to 4 functions, and the rest are in the menu, so the user could say that they wanted the new function, the widgets, the notes, notebooks, tegs or search below and the rest is in the menu which is also in the bottom bar

      I did suggest that 😊

I actually played with the web version of Evernote and I feel it to be very slow

That's interesting to hear. I'm using the web client most of the time now and have no complaints.

the new home page is designed to use the search bar. After spending some time with it, it actually works. when I click on the notes button it takes me to the notes page and I sorted them by date updated so that was cool what I didn't like was that on the top of the notes page the 3 buttons at the top of the page should be just ions not icons with name underneath. reason is the words are cut short and looks bad.

I agree on the titles. No need for that. Maybe they'll remove them in the future as people get more used to the new Home. As for search, that's something I rarely use, even on the desktop. I have everything well organized, making it easier to go to what I'm looking for. That's why i'm not comfortable with the new Home. Nevertheless, I'm really impressed with how fast opening the app is now.

I am a longtime Evernote user. I really appreciate the technological improvements that have come from the new developer - - syncing is faster and more reliable. But I am not liking any of the aesthetic changes or new features. For example. I feel like the core of Evernote users are already highly organized and probably (like me) have a different system and/or application for managing tasks. I see no place for them here; for me, Evernote is for storing and retreiving information, not for managing my workload, and that distinction really helps me discern what I want to do with an email or a webpage or whatever. It's Evernote, not Evertask. I also dislike the new home on mobile … it seems completely geared toward new users who have no notes. Most of the time if I need to enter info in Evernote when I'm not at my desk, I'm entering it into an existing note or notebook, not "from scratch" into a brand new note. Appreciate your videos, keep up the good work!

I prefer the other version! Was it a little slower? Yes! However, the experience was unique on all platforms

I also miss the widgets. Today, again, all the times I opened the app I simply went pass the new Home. I'm now always a couple of taps away from the information I'm looking for.

Hey ! Just wanted to point out something I find Mobile has that desktop doesn't. And it's annoying that Evernote has not seen. When looking for tags on mobile you can type any word and it will display tag possibilities. In desktop if you do not type the exact word that begins in a tag it does not show up.

I agree, that's super annoying. It's been a bug since v10 was released. I just reported it again.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, the buttons and the widgets need to be independent and they need to be customisable. For instance you use tasks and calendar a lot when your mobile maybe, I might use notebooks and something else.

Technically speaking, the new home is still useless for me. I haven't used once yet. And now I know why it's happening. I always select a notebook before creating a note. And I do the same on Obsidian. IMHO, there's no point in creating a note in an "inbox" and in the future moving it to another notebook. I see that as unnecessary work. If I already know what the note is about, it's easy enough to know what notebook it belongs to.

I liked the new home, I liked the old home a lot too, I believe what should be done was to leave the home like a puzzle so you can fit what you use, I like the widgets but they were never very useful and use the home The old version without them significantly improved app loading. Hope they don't remove them because they are great future possibilities

Totally agree! Evernote 7 for iOS what like that. I mentioned it in the articles below.

The new mobile home sucks. I want to see my calendar and tasks. I use tags instead of search to find what I need. The old home had a one click create note button, so why change?

Like me, you have a crafted system there. All the times I opened the app, I simply go pass the new Home. I'm now always a couple of taps away from the information I'm looking for.

The new Evernote mobile is giving me the best of both worlds. 1. To capture or start doing something. 2. The My widget section is making me be more productive or aware on what to focus and continue with what i was busy with. I love everything about the new Evernote mobile just wish my old phone could start audio recording faster the App is fast just the phone is old and slow.

I do not use Calendar so I wish I could costumise the navigation bar. I would add the search there, the search button on the top ist way to far when using my mobile phone. And I wonder how I come back to the Home after I tapped on any of the buttons in the navigation bar?

I also thought about that. I would replace Notes with Shortcuts.

To go back to the new Home, you have to use the “Create” button on the dock. To go to the old Home, you have to tap your avatar, then select the “Widgets” option in the menu.

@@vladcampos Thank you 🙏 Though I saw your and Federico's video I didn't take the new Home as a Home (maybe I also was confused because of the dark mode I use). Well, to quote James Moriarty (in "Sherlock"): "Boring!" 🤣 But, of course, a productivity software has to be useful, not exciting. So I will see if I will use EN in a different way in the future. Or, maybe, will use Drafts for quick capturing even more often. Nevertheless, EN will be stay my favorite software on the MacBook.
