Happy Wheels: The Series Is A Forgotten Mess

- Happy Wheels was always one of the most iconic games from the flash game era to me, from it's gore filled visuals, it's iconic theme song and endless amount of user generated levels. But something I only very recently found out about the game was that it actually had a very limited ran series on Go90. Happy Wheels: The Series premiered on November 15th 2016 to very little fanfare. Nowadays it seems to be completely forgotten. But for what reason? In this video I go over the show and talk about it's quality.
Music Used:
Happy Wheels Main Theme
Mario Paint Theme
Hotel Mario Intro Music
Tussle Among Trees (OMORI)
File Select (Mario Galaxy)

Can you tell us why it's good besides people dying?
The show is very accurate to the game: minimal plot and lots of death
Hey! I was the person who originally created the Lost Media Wiki article back in 2020. Thank you for covering this incredibly obscure and forgotten show. Thought I was the only person on Earth who even knew it existed because it was on a streaming platform that virtually no one used (go90). And just like you, I really didn't get on board with the first episode. In fact, I stopped watching the show after that and completely forgot about its existence entirely until after go90 shut down in July 2018. Heck, I am even surprised there was still episodes that were uploaded to TH-cam around this time - the first 3, in fact. In fact, the only reason I even knew this show happened was because I read an IGN article about it on November 2nd of 2016 when the show was first starting to be discussed online. To me personally, this show was a huge letdown and there is probably a reason it was made to be forgotten. It was made by Machinima. It was released on a platform no one knew about. It was laughably bad. Several factors as to why the show didn't make an impact, especially on Happy Wheels fans like myself at the time. The reason the show became mostly lost media in the first place was in fact due to go90's closure. As I am sure you can guess, go90 was a total flop, and completely failed upon its first year of launch from October 2015 to October 2016. In fact, it was impossible to even access go90 even if you did know of its existence, as the platform was entirely region locked and was restricted to the United States only. If you tried to access go90 in any other country, including Canada, you were prohibited from accessing go90 and any of its content, which included Happy Wheels: The Series, which is possibly another factor why the show became lost media in the first place. The already small userbase continued to decline, there were mass layoffs in 2017, and overall, the service didn't meet Verizon's sales expectations. July 31st of 2018 saw the official closure of go90 after Verizon made several unsuccessful attempts to promote go90 content on their AOL and Yahoo! properties, which included Tumblr. There is even a whole interview about the show with the game's creator, Jim Bonacci, that is also lost media. The only thing found from the interview was the video thumbnail with Jim awkwardly smiling at the camera almost as if he knew making the show was a bad idea. The show was just arguably bad in every regard, and like you said, is a worse version of Happy Tree Friends. It doesn't have a plot, if barely any plot at all. The show is just constant violence and bloody murder for no logical reason, and its the same joke every time - zoom in on character's face, character dies in a very gruesome way. There's no payoff like in Happy Tree Friends and it barely even has a plot. Everything about the show just made it completely forgettable, which is probably why I never even got around to watching the rest of the 8 episodes. Even though it had a star-studded cast of famous Happy Wheels TH-camrs of the era, nothing else about it made it memorable. When I first made the Lost Media Wiki article back in June of 2020, there wasn't even a whole lot of the show remaining online. Only the first 3 episodes, 'Welcome to Happy Wheels', 'Friday Night Races', and 'Dead Pool' were archived at that point. No one even bothered to upload the rest of the show anywhere online, that's truly how forgettable the show was. Well, that's what we all thought until someone found a Dailymotion account with DVR recordings of the episodes from Happy Wheels: The Series. The first of the lost episodes, 'Back to the Present', was found on November 29th of 2020. And then we just kind of went from there and ended up finding 5 of the remaining 6 lost episodes on that same Dailymotion account, and afterwards, I backed up all of the episodes that were found so far to the Internet Archive to ensure we wouldn't lose them once again. And for a while after all of those were found, the only episode considered completely lost was Episode 7, 'Stephen Saves the Day'. We only found a review of the episode, and a promotional teaser for said episode that was probably created by go90. The review was just, well, a review of the episode, and the teaser was a screenshot from the fabled episode. The picture included in the teaser shows Irresponsible Dad, Wheelchair Guy, and Lawnmower Guy in some sort of tunnel with unreadable text as well as some grafitti featuring the Total Jerkface logo, as well as the website's URL. For a while, that's all we had to go off by until the beginning of this year when the script was found. A Reddit user got in contact with one of the voice actors who worked on the show, and mentioned that it was possible that the script had 'been adjusted by the time it was'. As you said, the script involves D.E.A.T.H.S. navigating a tunnel to try to get to a CPR class and, of course, get hurt in a level in a similar fashion to the game itself, and then Stephen, the presumable 'hero' of the episode, runs to the CPR class to try to help them, but he is too late, they're all dead by the time he gets back. Then he just has a heart attack for no reason. All in all, the show was just entirely and completely forgettable, and even though the show is bad, it still deserves to be preserved and not completely lost to the sands of time. Even the worst shows and movies don't deserve to be forgotten relics of the past. You can hate a show, you can love a show. But nothing deserves to be lost. They should all be preserved and enjoyed (or hated) by countless future generations. There is a reason Mystery Science Theater 3000 exists - to riff off of bad movies that have been forgotten and no one remembers. Once again, as the original creator of the article, thank you for covering this. I thought I was the only person on Earth who even knew about this show's existence. It's so obscure and I hear barely anyone talking about it, let alone anyone at all.
Interesting :3 I am not reading that :D
@@Jeff-The-Hung-Horse I did actually read it all...
Is a whole 7 Paragraphs needed to thank this guy?
@@Donnie_ronnie Is being an a**hole over someone expressing their gratitude to someone covering a show seeeming everyone has forgotten about needed to say you don't want to read it? Apparently so, because you took the time to post this hateful comment. If you don't like it, go somewhere else, because you clearly have nothing positive or nice to say.
@@FB3Network I was asking a question about why you needed to get 7 Paragraphs in just to thank someone.
I mean... expecting happy wheels to have a plot outside of lots of death is like expecting a fish to tapdance and then get struck by lightning 10 times
This show is like a snuff film; the story is there, but that’s not why you’re there
Snuff film but wihout begin realistic.
Instead of traumatizing you it just makes you bored
I think if they'd done something with it, like have them begin to realise that they are characters in a sadistic game and try to escape the town, it would have had a lot more staying power.
We need someone to make another happy wheels show only this time they actually get it right
If you're confused: only Wheelchair Guy, Segway Guy, Effective Shopper, Lawnmower guy and Irresponsible Dad are canon characters pulled from the game. Any other are artificialy put in.
no way! really??

I swear i saw some Levels with a 'Character' that looks like Spots
@@aleanddragonITA Its a custom NPC

I know that
But i thought Happy Wheels' Lore was something like SCP's which is made by its community
So anything in a Level is 'Canon' including Custom NPCs

We're really living in a world of criticism when people complain about THE HAPPY WHEELS SHOW not having a great plot
Should a series not strive to have a great plot?
@@WahtheSkel it should, however, this is happy wheels
@@ThePlague_1888 yeah but the series still isn't entertaining, plot or not plot
But it saved the indie games see some years indie games are less popular however happy wheels saved the day
That doesn't shield it from criticism.
It was the 2010's, yes segway users where specially seen as pretencious hipster douches
I remenber em being a common punching bag
Ok this show is ass but imagine collabs with other flash games from the time that’d be amazing and hillarious
Honestly though, how could anyone expect them to do something interesting when the game has no story for them to work off of?
i can definitely see this take! i just think that shows should strive to tell some sort of narrative within them as without it, the show just feels empty and meaningless. even shows like happy tree friends which i believe was the heavy inspo for this show have narratives throughout the episodes.
it had so much potential, i watched it last night and i expected it to be pretty bad, but oh my... the only parts i enjoyed were the parts with little timmy (cody) and even then the episode still sucked. imo, the series should've been based in random levels rather than an actual town.
The medieval episode was based of the level named ressinance ravager.
It actually references it pretty well
Wait ... HAPPY WHEELS HAD A SHOW!?
Nah
Splendid
Only having this show available on an obscure streaming site only accessible from one country, and then unceremoniously shutting down that company, makes it seem like they wanted this show to become lost.
this is a good video it deserves more views
Today i found out about the happy wheels show, now we have to find the files for the mobile versions update
I remember watching this show on Go90 back like ten or so years ago.
I saw a ad of it in like 2022 and then I saw some episodes that were still there and I loved them!
The one where its more medieval is a reference to one of the more popular levels named ressinance ravager.
That is probably the only good feature about the series lol
The way that i look at it is, Sure it's a dumpster fire of a show but they tried and that's what matters.
I NEVER knew this existed
I'm so glad nobody knew this existed
My biggest achievement is knowing the guy who made happy wheels
this is why not everything needs to have a series
I can't believe they got magnusson to act in this
Great job M8 now I can't unsee Segway looking like Dr Microwave Casserole Magnusson now 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This show is like Happy Tree Friends but with humans
I dont know what bugs me more, the completely random deathtraps but poorly animated so not even exciting like the game (I respect some of the references I guess but this is a show set in an actual town not just random levels. they almost explained this with the zombie apocalypse traps but turns out the king was lying about that) or the blatant lazy use of actual game assets, like here 1:22, they made no attempt to even scale them properly, or EVEN use the right SPRITES they used the clean non wounded sprites, and use the character sprites for every shot from a side perspective, its just such an obvious cashgrab and Im pretty sure Jim himself doesnt even like it
To sum up the Happy Wheels Animated Series:
Your favorite Happy Wheels characters form the human equivalent of Team Death P.A.C.T.
Believe it or not, this came out before BFB, meaning that Happy Wheels the Series predicted Death PACT
Death P.A.C.T. is basically the same concept as D.E.A.T.H.S.
This video is very underrated
This video explained how weird this is and i love it
5:52 spots is just a hallucination created by wheelchair guy
Had it been released on Amazon Prime or Apple TV, then maybe Happy Wheels: The Series may have had a bit more potential
man i wish this was still going
this video goes wild 🙏🏽
damn had no idea this was a thing
2010's was peak youtube.
the series had too many wheels that were happy.
I didn't know there was a series
Here's my idea for a better plot for Happy Wheels: The Series.
A wealthy, evil individual forces people to participate in a series of impossibly dangerous challenges. The winner of these challenges is rewarded with a large sum of money and their freedom.
I liked the story they were trying to go with and I don’t think the series was too bad, episode 1 was so very bad though
I always loved Happy Wheels I always thought the game was free fun and I always thought the graphics were pretty cool I remember playing it back in elementary school. Surprisingly, I did not get in trouble so yeah, I’m off the hook
Don't ever disrespect my goat Happy Wheels: The Series
I love this show
Hey guys, remember when the game a story line?
yeah man apparently there was an entire storymode in the game! im so not sure why they didnt put that in the series!
4:17 mixed with gman
I do think there was potential for this show, but I feel like if they do revisit this (which they never will) they could get Markiplier to help out with the comedy and direction for the plots.
Nostalgia
Its just a silly show about a game really.
What is the outro song called??
6:23 Huge L for you
Agreed
It had a show?
So it's like happy tree friends
Spots reminds me of the cartoon dna from Jurassic park
who here just found out this was a thing a few days ago?
I did today
I only like show because it’s so bad it’s good
true
the game happy wheels IS just violence for no reason, and many of the episodes were just based off of levels which were also pointless violence
