Anyway, I shared on my insta back in Aug when I realized the “new” Walk In The Forest sw had the exact same scent notes as White Eucalyptus & Sage. ILNs don’t match since it’s a phytogaia vs a standard 3 wick but obviously with the scent notes being the same they weren’t trying to hide it to much. Another one I posted recently as being a repackage is the “new” Café In Venice sw, it’s a repackage of the Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla & Paris Café blend 3 wick that was out for summer sas! Again different ilns bc of colored wax but scent notes are identical.
Oooohhhh BBW is going to put a hit on you. Protect this man at all cost. But on a serious note… I’m going to be side eyeing all these candles now. They think they are slick!

Thank you! Finally, proof that their scent notes are often fiction as well, yet people will swear they smell the different notes in each. People underestimate the suggestive power of words, packaging, and marketing. I feel like this is a deceptive practice, but there’s obviously no laws against it. I guess protecting consumers from candle repacks isn’t a high priority 😂. I wonder if the same method can be applied to body care scents to identify repacks, although they are usually more obvious.

This shows how easily people (including myself!) can be influenced to think they’re smelling something different just by them changing the adjectives on the scent notes or the name of the scent. For instance I love Rainforest Gardenia but I’m not crazy about White Gardenia. Same with Limoncello and Sugared Lemon Zest. I’m not a fan of SLZ but love Limoncello 🤣 I’m glad you did this video!
I’m not convinced. Things can have the same notes and less or more of an Ingrid and it makes it smells different. I have many of these and they smell different. This comment isn’t against you or any one in person in any way… just saying.

I understand what you mean because it’s something about certain formulas I enjoy more than others, like in the cases of RG vs WG and Limoncello vs SLZ for instance. Even having the info about the ILNs being the same, I still wouldn’t buy the ones I didn’t like because to my nose they just don’t smell the same! Still good info to have if you’re wanting a certain scent they’re not currently making. You could then try the other just to see. Edit: certain *scents (not formulas, oops)
@@sniffawhiff6915 I wish I could say the same because I would love a Limoncello right now and would take SLZ if it smelled the same to me. Limoncello smells like a sweet lemon candy to me, but SLZ smells like really sour lemons and makes my nose hurt! 😩

Wow!!! This amazing. You cracked the code 😊. No more wasted funds on repacks and now i can indeed hoard repacks of previous favorites. I wonder if birchwood trail (green package this fall) was actually vanilla birch as many figured out - i bet those ILN numbers match.
Yea! So we actually checked all those candles in that highly-repackaged Birchwood Trail collection but none of them turned up to be a match in the database. We suspect that because those 4 candles were made with "Phytogaia" fragrance technology, that it somehow modifies the fragrance formula therefore assigning it a new ILN that doesn't match with its previous repackage.
@@jools8088 I am a diehard Vanilla Birch lover and you cannot tell me they aren't the same! Smelling side-by-side, if there is a difference it's so minimal -- either way it's the same woodsy, sweet cologny goodness.
I knew it!! I bought ‘‘twas the night before Christmas and compared it to hometown sugar cookies and it smelled exactly the same to me. I ended up returning the ‘twas the night before…. Even though other candle channels said it was different 😂 thankyou for the exposure! It is annoying to buy a candle or even a lotion to realize it’s something you already have, they can’t just cater to the new customers because we who have buying for a few years would like an original scent!!!!
The worse thing is that they allure us with shiny/glassy... 😉 lids & fancy wrap-arounds (Oh, how much I dislike this turm... "wrap-around" 😵💫) so that you think it's a good product, or that even if you understand what it's all about, the packaging will still appeal to you & suck you in... 🕸🕷 #KissOfTheSpiderWoman Lol...

I remember loving Peach Poppy when it came out and I was sad they never released it again, little did I know I still have it in my collection right now as Island Margarita! 🤦🏼♀️

There's actually evidence to believe that a 3-wick called "PB&J Ice Cream" is coming in the near future. The ILN however was not a match to the old PB&J, but that's not to rule out that it won't smell the same!
I love this video! This is exciting to finally have this validation. I realized quickly the champagne cupcake candle is just sprinkled birthday cake and was upset! 🤦🏻♀️ but omg I'm dying about the hometown cookies iln.. this is so funny. I hated hometown sugar cookies so much and I bought twas the night before Christmas cause I loved the room spray. But when I burned the candle I hated it and I started realizing it had that same weird burnt plasticy smell that hometown had. I'm so sad!
New to your channel. Gotta say that I'm glad that I make my own candles. Haven't bought a BBW candle in so many years. But as a maker it gives me confirmation that I'm doing just fine.
I've caught a few deceptions over the years (the Perfect Christmas, for example). It is very disappointing and I wish they wouldn't do that. When I find a scent I love, I don't want them to "tweak" it and make it completely different!!! It's annoying. I'm glad you (and the Committee) are calling BBW out on this and alerting we candle aficionados. Thank you! Love your videos!
@@charliegirl2468 What they have been calling "Perfect Christmas" the last 4-5 seasons is not the original Perfect Christmas Spice. Different scent notes. The one I love had a black pepper note (I thought) and I fell in love with it. Not sweet, just a lovely spice (red cinnamon, spiced orange peel and vanilla). A very unisex scent. I wear what's left of my stash all winter. The Perfect Christmas out now is fresh cut pine, cinnamon sugar and toasted marshmallow. I bought it hoping it would be the same. Nope.

It’s all marketing. I now ignore the label when sniffing product. SN: I loaded up on Sprinkled Birthday Cake during summer SAS! I’m all set. I have way too many Moscow Mule and Champagne Margarita. I didn’t realize they were the same until I lit them.
This was a fun and helpful video. I always believed Vanilla & Santal was a repackage of Coconut Sandalwood so I checked the products ingredients database and sure enough, they have almost the same ingredients. lol. I knew I already had a candle that smelled similar in my collection so it was a pass for me. lol.
Oh, wow! That didn't occur to me before. I love Coconut Sandalwood and bought a backup during SAS. I will definitely pass on Vanilla and Santal if it's released again.
That is very cool to know some candles are the same with different names ! Could you verify if wildberry jam donut is the same as raspberry peach macaron ? I think they smell similar and they are both so good !

One I don't believe was mentioned is cozy cashmere and sunshine glow. I knew they smelled the same when they came out in my store as a test candle single wick last year and I compared the notes and they are identical! One of my favs is cozy cashmere
EXAMPLE- Smoked Vanilla Whisky that just recently came out is a Repak of Warmth Fireside Comfort from 2017!!! Same collection as SOFT Pink petal Teacake. Was an absolute Fave of mine and was only able to get my hands on 1,,, that collection released on candle day that year and the candles from that collection flew off the shelves! That is a candle that someone may have Fallen in love with it and now it is in fact around again! And a person doesn't have to Pay an arm and a leg on mercari or ebay.
I'm so glad I came across your channel. Do you or anybody happen to have a list of remixes by Yankee? There's a few older scents I'd love to buy again but all the YC near me have closed so I'm stuck with online ordering (cozy sweater, salt water taffy, and autumn in the park.) I'm seriously laughing that I own a few of the BBW repackaged candles and never noticed they were the same.

Hi, do you know if there is a repackaging for the scent "White"? It was a clear bottle with black label and hollographic lettering. Love th scent but everywhere i look i see it was discountinued.
A new one coming out soon called "sailing in mediterranean" is a repackage of sea salt and sails, according to Life Inside the Page. It also has the same scent notes listed so I guess they're not trying to hide it.
I have a hunch that the new Citron & tonic is the same as the Avocado Coconut scent that was in those flat & wide three wicks they did for a couple of years. I tried checking but they didn’t have anything on those scents in their database
OMG that is so cool that now we have "Pistachio Cream Puff" LOLOLOL!!! We didn't miss out after all!! 😛OH & YEAH the Caramel Pumpkin Swirl & Cinnamon Caramel Swirl.........Fall & Christmas.......I figured that out last year!! Same exact scent notes on each jar- but Idc I love that one! lol (same story with Be Mine & PFG) Kent- that Hot Fudge Drizzle that was in the line with this year's PPTC & Toasted Pineapple Marshmallow..........HAS to be the same ILN as HFS & CLC!!! (I had felt that those last 2 were the same but yeah now there are 3) HA Gotta go!!!
For some reason, chocolate lava cake has more of a confectionery sugar smell to me than the HFS and the drizzle candles do. I’ve got three Chocolate Lava Cake candles left and I refuse to use them. I wish that one came back.

I also strongly suspect that the new Sea Salt and Neroli is a dupe of Suntan/Perfect Summer. Also, do you suspect Indigo Paradise is a dupe of something? I am burning it now and it smells like something I have smelled before from BBW.

Can it be if an item has two ILN numbers it is a combination of two scents. I believe they also do this with body care. I think the new Among the Clouds is In the Stars & Into the Night. Also, Unicorn Sprinkles smells a lot like Tutti Fruity from Easter line up.
Yes, this combining of two previous existing scents to create a new scent seems to be one of their favorite new things, with both candles and body care. (I haven’t smelled Among The Stars yet, but interesting to know.)

Hey! You're so welcome! And while you can smell a distinct coffee note on cold, but when it's burning, it's the new Pink Lavender & Espresso that's extremely similar to Lavender Marshmallow.
Damn. I really think LEAVES and SPICED APPLE TODDY is the same for sure. (I understand they CAN still be the same. But I wish I could get an ILN confirmation!) I think MERRY MIMOSA is actually same as ALOHA KIWI PASSIONFRUIT as well. (I wonder if their ILNs match???)
I've smelled Leaves and Spiced Apple Toddy side-by-side and if they're not the same, they're damn close. Only difference is I get a bit more of an apple note from SAP but I think that's likely just the power of suggestion.

I would check out Pumpkin Cinnamon Bun as the next best thing to Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake. And then Welcome Home for the next best thing for Cinnamon Pretzel Twist. Both come out during the fall time!
I knew the dark amber and oud and vintage was the same and said it so much and everyone would tell me it wasn't. I'm like I swear I think they are. Lol I smelled no difference whatsoever. as well as the iced vanilla woods and the new vanilla noir and lavender. And the unicorn sprinkles and rasberries and whipped vanilla. Also, one u didn't mention that I feel are pretty much the same is the new cafe whatever it's called in the new pink single wick is same as the mashup Paris cafe with cinnamon spiced vanilla. But with the wax being pink on the single wick the numbers prob are different.
Yep! I figured that out in store yesterday while comparison sniffing Cafe in Venice or whatever it's called vs. Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla and Paris Cafe!!
Theres are a few that I need to know about Salt Water Taffy , Radiant Sky and Under the Magnolia Tree ( I have been smelling this and it's so lemon heavy then I thought it was Lemon Tea? Maybe something no one has thought about if it's possible to do with pictures. I was thinking if you wanted to compare those old candle ilns not in the database you could look up images of said old candle and maybe find a photo of the bottom of the candle with the iln number. Just a thought!
Yea, so the printing of the ingredients on the bottom label didn't start happening until like 2021? So the old candles don't have ILN numbers on it. Trust me, we tried that in the meetings when we found out that the ILNs were on the labels LOL!
@@TheCandleChannel I realized this as well after posting :( I tried to compare a few oldies and alas, no iln. Hopefully those old scents come back NOT repackaged and then you'll have the iln number in your reach.
One thing I hate about bath & body works is when they have scent notes that refer to things that don't really even have a scent to them that would be specific or discernible, like "morning mist," "mountain air, " "sunlight," etc.

I didn't mention it in the video, but the men's Freshwater fragrance is also extremely similar to Sparkling Icicles! I believe both are dupes of the Acqua di Gio fragrance. Freshwater was an online exclusive 3-wick at one point this year, but doesn't seem to be available anymore :(

Wow!!! This amazing. You cracked the code 😊. No more wasted funds on repacks and now i can indeed hoard repacks of previous favorites. I wonder if birchwood trail (green package this fall) was actually vanilla birch as many figured out - i bet those ILN numbers match.
Yea! So we actually checked all those candles in that highly-repackaged Birchwood Trail collection but none of them turned up to be a match in the database. We suspect that because those 4 candles were made with "Phytogaia" fragrance technology, that it somehow modifies the fragrance formula therefore assigning it a new ILN that doesn't match with its previous repackage.

I knew it!! I bought ‘‘twas the night before Christmas and compared it to hometown sugar cookies and it smelled exactly the same to me. I ended up returning the ‘twas the night before…. Even though other candle channels said it was different 😂 thankyou for the exposure! It is annoying to buy a candle or even a lotion to realize it’s something you already have, they can’t just cater to the new customers because we who have buying for a few years would like an original scent!!!!
The worse thing is that they allure us with shiny/glassy... 😉 lids & fancy wrap-arounds (Oh, how much I dislike this turm... "wrap-around" 😵💫) so that you think it's a good product, or that even if you understand what it's all about, the packaging will still appeal to you & suck you in... 🕸🕷 #KissOfTheSpiderWoman Lol...

There's actually evidence to believe that a 3-wick called "PB&J Ice Cream" is coming in the near future. The ILN however was not a match to the old PB&J, but that's not to rule out that it won't smell the same!

I realized quickly the champagne cupcake candle is just sprinkled birthday cake and was upset! 🤦🏻♀️ but omg I'm dying about the hometown cookies iln.. this is so funny. I hated hometown sugar cookies so much and I bought twas the night before Christmas cause I loved the room spray. But when I burned the candle I hated it and I started realizing it had that same weird burnt plasticy smell that hometown had. I'm so sad!
New to your channel. Gotta say that I'm glad that I make my own candles. Haven't bought a BBW candle in so many years. But as a maker it gives me confirmation that I'm doing just fine.
I've caught a few deceptions over the years (the Perfect Christmas, for example). It is very disappointing and I wish they wouldn't do that. When I find a scent I love, I don't want them to "tweak" it and make it completely different!!! It's annoying. I'm glad you (and the Committee) are calling BBW out on this and alerting we candle aficionados. Thank you! Love your videos!

@@charliegirl2468 What they have been calling "Perfect Christmas" the last 4-5 seasons is not the original Perfect Christmas Spice. Different scent notes. The one I love had a black pepper note (I thought) and I fell in love with it. Not sweet, just a lovely spice (red cinnamon, spiced orange peel and vanilla). A very unisex scent. I wear what's left of my stash all winter. The Perfect Christmas out now is fresh cut pine, cinnamon sugar and toasted marshmallow. I bought it hoping it would be the same. Nope.

This was a fun and helpful video. I always believed Vanilla & Santal was a repackage of Coconut Sandalwood so I checked the products ingredients database and sure enough, they have almost the same ingredients. lol. I knew I already had a candle that smelled similar in my collection so it was a pass for me. lol.
Oh, wow! That didn't occur to me before. I love Coconut Sandalwood and bought a backup during SAS. I will definitely pass on Vanilla and Santal if it's released again.

One I don't believe was mentioned is cozy cashmere and sunshine glow. I knew they smelled the same when they came out in my store as a test candle single wick last year and I compared the notes and they are identical! One of my favs is cozy cashmere

EXAMPLE- Smoked Vanilla Whisky that just recently came out is a Repak of Warmth Fireside Comfort from 2017!!! Same collection as SOFT Pink petal Teacake. Was an absolute Fave of mine and was only able to get my hands on 1,,, that collection released on candle day that year and the candles from that collection flew off the shelves! That is a candle that someone may have Fallen in love with it and now it is in fact around again! And a person doesn't have to Pay an arm and a leg on mercari or ebay.
So the first ever Peppered Plum is different than the geometric label and the new candle out now right?

There's a few older scents I'd love to buy again but all the YC near me have closed so I'm stuck with online ordering (cozy sweater, salt water taffy, and autumn in the park.) A new one coming out soon called "sailing in mediterranean" is a repackage of sea salt and sails, according to Life Inside the Page. It also has the same scent notes listed so I guess they're not trying to hide it.
I have a hunch that the new Citron & tonic is the same as the Avocado Coconut scent that was in those flat & wide three wicks they did for a couple of years. I tried checking but they didn’t have anything on those scents in their database

Same exact scent notes on each jar- but Idc I love that one! lol (same story with Be Mine & PFG) Kent- that Hot Fudge Drizzle that was in the line with this year's PPTC & Toasted Pineapple Marshmallow..........HAS to be the same ILN as HFS & CLC!!! (I had felt that those last 2 were the same but yeah now there are 3) HA Gotta go!!!
For some reason, chocolate lava cake has more of a confectionery sugar smell to me than the HFS and the drizzle candles do. I’ve got three Chocolate Lava Cake candles left and I refuse to use them. I wish that one came back.

I also strongly suspect that the new Sea Salt and Neroli is a dupe of Suntan/Perfect Summer. Also, do you suspect Indigo Paradise is a dupe of something? I am burning it now and it smells like something I have smelled before from BBW.

Can it be if an item has two ILN numbers it is a combination of two scents. I believe they also do this with body care. I think the new Among the Clouds is In the Stars & Into the Night. Also, Unicorn Sprinkles smells a lot like Tutti Fruity from Easter line up.
Yes, this combining of two previous existing scents to create a new scent seems to be one of their favorite new things, with both candles and body care. (I haven’t smelled Among The Stars yet, but interesting to know.)
I would never intentionally buy 'Oud' anything, but did buy Merry Maple Bourbon and this explains why I hated it so much.
I feel like I have smelled patchouli rosewood in body care or a different candle

I've smelled Leaves and Spiced Apple Toddy side-by-side and if they're not the same, they're damn close. Only difference is I get a bit more of an apple note from SAP but I think that's likely just the power of suggestion.

I would check out Pumpkin Cinnamon Bun as the next best thing to Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake. And then Welcome Home for the next best thing for Cinnamon Pretzel Twist. Both come out during the fall time!
I knew the dark amber and oud and vintage was the same and said it so much and everyone would tell me it wasn't. I'm like I swear I think they are. Lol I smelled no difference whatsoever. as well as the iced vanilla woods and the new vanilla noir and lavender. And the unicorn sprinkles and rasberries and whipped vanilla. Also, one u didn't mention that I feel are pretty much the same is the new cafe whatever it's called in the new pink single wick is same as the mashup Paris cafe with cinnamon spiced vanilla. But with the wax being pink on the single wick the numbers prob are different.
Yep! I figured that out in store yesterday while comparison sniffing Cafe in Venice or whatever it's called vs. Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla and Paris Cafe!!

Maybe something no one has thought about if it's possible to do with pictures. I was thinking if you wanted to compare those old candle ilns not in the database you could look up images of said old candle and maybe find a photo of the bottom of the candle with the iln number. Just a thought!
Yea, so the printing of the ingredients on the bottom label didn't start happening until like 2021? So the old candles don't have ILN numbers on it. Trust me, we tried that in the meetings when we found out that the ILNs were on the labels LOL!

I tried to compare a few oldies and alas, no iln. Hopefully those old scents come back NOT repackaged and then you'll have the iln number in your reach.
One thing I hate about bath & body works is when they have scent notes that refer to things that don't really even have a scent to them that would be specific or discernible, like "morning mist," "mountain air, " "sunlight," etc.

I didn't mention it in the video, but the men's Freshwater fragrance is also extremely similar to Sparkling Icicles! I believe both are dupes of the Acqua di Gio fragrance. Freshwater was an online exclusive 3-wick at one point this year, but doesn't seem to be available anymore :(
