Hi there!
It’s great to meet you 🥰
My name is Maneetpaul Singh, but my friends call me Maneet (pronounced muh-neet). I'm a bookworm from Connecticut who loves tech. When I bought my first e-reader in 2020, I began reading more than I ever had before. I’ve made it my mission to help people fall in love with reading through Book Tech.
Think of me like the MKBHD of books.
There are three things I want you to know.

Could you post a link to your Readwise video as I just signed up for a free trial. Thank you.
I have been using it for a few months and I like the fact that I have all my e book apps in one place and I can listen to audiobooks with and without my headphones and do not need to use Bluetooth in order to listen. The size is great as it truly does fit in one hand and it is ultra portable.
Nice!! Having all your reading apps in one place is huge, totally agree with that. I'm glad you're finding the portability aspect to be worth it. Out of curiosity, do you carry the Palma in your pocket alongside your phone? Do you find that annoying at all?
@@Maneetpaul Nope I carry my phone on my right side as I am right handed and hold my phone with my right when I am using it. And the Palma on my left. Plus my phone case has a different feel than the Palma so I can usually tell which one I am grabbing.
What are the e-book apps that you use?
Hopefully this will push more companies to release phone sized e readers, I'm surprised they're not more common
I must say, I just discovered your channel and after watching a lot of videos about e-readers, your videos are the best. You give the information so gracefully. Thank you!
I just got my Palma this week and am loving it so far. I’ve had almost every Kindle device made and got tired of waiting around for a new Oasis (or premium device). I also refuse to read on any non e-ink device so using the Kindle app on my phone or iPad isn’t an option. I love the size of the Palma and the fact you can read on many different apps is what did it for me. Yes, it’s a little pricey but what tech device isn’t? It took some getting used to since I’m not an Android user but overall I’m really enjoying it. Thanks for your review!!
That's awesome, so glad you're enjoying it! Amazon is missing out big time by delaying a new Oasis. I also agree that the price of the Palma is annoying, but the overkill specs are nice to have in terms of future-proofing. I hope you read many books on it!
I've had a Palma for a bout two and a half weeks now, and I use it every single day! It's perfect for taking on the go with me and traveling. I also have small hands, so it fits perfectly, and the volume buttons can be used for both page turning and scrolling, which is amazing. I love that I have all of my reading apps, including Webtoon. I feel like I'm not using all of its capabilities fully but I'm excited to learn more.
What reading apps do you use?
@@MizMagnoSalsa I use Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Tapas, Webtoon, Viz Manga, Shonen Jump, and Audible. I have such a large collection on Kindle so I mainly use Kindle.
Love the palma, I take it everywhere with me, at home I either use my Kindle, iPad, Kindle Scribe or Tab Mini C
I’d just hate that I can’t use it a work without looking like I’m on my phone vs with a kindle
Perfect size but very expensive. Any E-reader with warm light in that size and not more 99$ would be great. 😇😁
a use case for me would be like you said people just thinking i was on a phone. It gets exhausting the amount of times i’m on my Kobo and people are stop me to ask “what is that??”
I love these Android pocketable e-readers. I have found the Mooan Inkpalm 5 to be more than enough power / features for me. And the sub-$100 price point can't be beat.
I like Onyx. I'd love to own a Boox Tab X for sheet music, but $879.99 USD is prohibitive for me. Maybe one day.
Also, I'd enjoy seeing a review of one of the Hisense eink smartphones if you ever get a chance.
2024 Kindle wishlist....palm sized Kindle paperwhite!!!!! Need.
The accidental-touch thing is kind of wonky on the Kindle app, even if you're just using a regular phone. Have you tried mapping the volume buttons to turn pages?
Can you use the volume buttons to change pages?
As far as I know, yes you can
I’m sorry but I love how decked out it is
Hi, did palma helps you read a lot compared to kindle paperwhite or other ereader? Upon checking, palma currently not available in amazon and only in their website, thinking if palma will be worth it. Thanks!
Can you scroll down while reading books like on the iBooks app? Or is it just tapping and swiping to change the page?
tbh I think this would be great for me, as my kobo reader has not been working and I could have both the kindle app and the kobo app in the same device! I might consider this one instead of investing in a new kobo!
Just received mine today! I see a mini small black dot on the screen. Would that be normal due to the ink technology?
It's not annoying at all.
For me it's a nice device because in Poland (where I live) we have a subscription similar to Kindle Unlimited but there are both ebooks and audiobooks. However, I can't listen to audiobooks on my Kindle (I mean audiobooks from this subscription). So I do it on my phone. But if I had Palma it will be nice to switch between ebook and audiobook easily. If it only costs less 😅
Sir when will Kindle Scribe is going to be launched in India. Can u please help me?
Thanks for the video.
Can this device do text-to-speech in the kindle or reader app?
reminds me of a nook, I have the same issues with page turns and unintended book closing or library main page.
Hello! Can you comment on immersive reading with the kindle app? This would be incredibly helpful for me as this is the primary way that I consume books. I’ve been looking for an eink device that can do this though. Thank you.
One thought: I wonder this could be an excellent device for people who have dyslexia (reading learning disorder). Why?
1) It has camera, that can be used to capture text using OCR apps, text that can be later read using TTS: text-to-speech.
2) It has a faster processor (that would help generate voice, while reading with TTS).
Just my thoughts.
Alex
I have the white one and i love it. I don’t buy books from amazon or any other online store, so the android OS is really useful. it's fast and i don’t need to sync my sideloaded ebooks with my computer to get my ebooks onto my ereader in order to read. Some might find the "newspaper-column" aspect ratio too narrow for longer reading, but you'll get adjusted to it in a few days. It's probably on the niche market but don’t knock it til you've tried it 😉
I'm curious - where do you get your books from? I've been on the hunt for an Amazon/Kobo/Barnes&Noble alternative. This is an area I want to explore a lot more!
@@Maneetpaul speaking for myself, I use hoopla, libby, or cloud library since I have a library card and I gotta save money LOL I'll buy books off kindle when I cant find them for free in my local e-book library selection.
I love my kobo eReader for books. Im looking for this because i do like to scroll and be online alot, and this will be so much better on my eyes, and i believe will have less effect on my mood too
Love your videos, great info. When I go to a boring function (usually family or religious) I slip my Apple air buds into one ear and listen off my Apple Watch or iPhone to an audio book 😅
Hehe that's a great tip 😅 Thanks for watching!
I have my Kindle 11th Gen PW., I like it because there’s no destructions with other apps. Purely reading. The Palma looks good… to have multiple reading apps in one device would be amazing.
I joined your book club. I LOVE non fiction, way more than fiction. Thank you for this review. So far how is the Palma now that you've had it a few months? It is slow? Do you still feel the same about the Palma? I'm debating but it's so expensive.
Bro this is awesome phone for a minimalistic. I like to read, I can use maps on it, I can use WhatsApp for office purposes. So it helps me get only the essential features of a phone while primarily being an e-reader.
The only things lacking is sim card support. That'll make it a perfect primary device for a minimalist user.
Can you do a review on the Boox Page! Also compare it with the Kindle oasis!
Is it available in India?
Hi, @Maneetpaul, there's a new (lower specced and more affordable) iteration of the Palma: the Onyx Box Kant. I think you should review it since it's a lot cheaper and may not be that much of an overkill. It also includes the play store. I wonder if the price difference reflects in usability. Thanks for your insights!
Great review, when I learned about this device I kinda scratched my head and wondered why does this exist, too small for comfortable reading, no cellular so you still need a phone.. Who is it for? -- after watching your review, I still very much don't understand why this exists lol
Yes exactly. It's a confusing product. For those who can afford the high end specs and want something super portable, I can see it being useful. But I imagine that is a small audience.
It's pretty easy and comfortable to read on the go and the most portable ereader on the market, so it hits a good niche for a decent number of people
How's the battery life?
I would like one for same reason I sometimes use my droid as reader. When smaller is needed.
How does this differ from downloading the kindle app on your phone and reading off of that?
No distractions🤷
It's e-ink and easier on your eyes.
it has all the distractions as it has apps from google store@@choco1199
@@Iampilgr1m you sound like someone who has never tried to read on your phone while being distracted 😕
@@Iampilgr1m and you probably don’t care about reading that much…🤷
Perhaps this product should have been designed as an actual smartphone. It seems it was designed to do everything a smartphone can do except send/receive calls. If you love reading and you don't care about having a colour screen on your phone, this could have been an interesting all-in-one device. I wonder is there a market for that sort of thing? Personally, though, I like the larger screen of the Kindle, and I like the distraction-free ecosystem.
Now THAT is a good idea : I briefly glossed over an article about "Waldenponding" which as far as I can work out is basically about leaving behind tech, or as I would look at, reducing you reliance on tech and the attention syphoning social media apps. Your suggestion could do exactly that : create an e-ink phone that just had calendar, to do list, e-book reader and phone functionality, that it. No Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and all of that tech-bumf.
I want the Palma so I can read in bed especially at night. I feel like it would be so comfortable ❤
I could see getting rid of camera. Maybe a little less ram. But love the idea. Is use a cheap Android, with no sim. But I loaded Kindle, and other readers, & Google maps & podcasts & load onto sad card. Hot supine it with my iPhone when it needs web. Also audio books. This leaves my phone free for important things.
The only issue of droid is the battery doesn’t last like a kindle
How can you ask for fewer features? 😂 I use the camera to scan documents. It's perfect for when I'm outside my house and don't want to carry a Kindle or any other heavy device, or even when I'm just at the office and don't want to distract myself with the phone. I've never seen anyone asking for features to be removed in my life. What's happening to the world?
This vs a phone?
That’s a good review. Thank you.
Not sure why they made it like a phone instead of like a typical kindle or kobo. If I need to read I can read on my phone. I have subscriptions to three magazines, plus kindle app and books I’ve bought. I wouldn’t put my phone away and pull out another phone -shaped device to read when I can already read on a phone-shaped device ie my actual phone.
Maybe if it plays a good game of chess or can run a chess app I’d be more tempted to take a look. But not just for reading.
I think its targeted at people who basically want an e-ink smart phone.
This is exactly why I don't see myself using the Palma as my primary e-reader. It's just too similar to my phone. I don't mind reading on my phone when I'm out and about. And when I have more time, I'd prefer reading on an e-reader that has a larger screen.
To call it merely an e reader is misleading. You can do a lot of productivity work with it, as you would from your phone without the crazy LCD beaming at you.
Thank God! At minute 1:45 you say the one and only truth, that nobody has had the guts to say: all these extra features are completely useless in an ereader. The form factor itself was worthy enough and a cheaper version would've been perfect. Why implement all this specs in a sort of hybrid whose target is not defined? If you are looking for an ereader, it's way too expensive. If you want an eink phone, it has no sim.
I don’t like using my iPhone to read, audiobooks, podcasts, music etc . Battery life!
Rest assured, I'm one of those Indians who doesn't like to attend those fancy 3rd class chit-chat Indian functions with fake Rs 25k sarees /gold jewellery, taking mindless selfies, nor do I like to mindless scroll on a smartphone. So, this is perfect for me.
Android 11 - old technology - skip this obsolete slab - Android 15 is coming out in a few months now
Needs a SIM card, badly...
i do typically follow your channel but i didnt love the title of this vid, it feels much more clickbait than your other content
To me this is stupid. It's double the price of a kindle. I'm sorry, but it's not worth it at all. A kindle is around 4K in South Africa, and the Palma is more than double that price. That's just insane! Also, downloading apps defeats the purpose of an e-reader. You might as well just use your phone.
