    So I have a friend his rear main seal I believe is leaking oil really bad Do you have any ideas of what gaskets he will need and how hard it would be to do this job? I’m assuming oil pan gasket and not sure if there’s any others that would be needed when trying to replace the rear main seal any decently priced places or any crossover parts?

      Only gasket needed is the rear main seal and it is the same as a 90’s Subaru Justy. Probably easier to remove engine and transmission together. I have removed transmission by itself before and it is not easy, I would do both together. Oil pan does not need to be removed. You will need to drain transmission oil though or you will have a mess. Good luck.

    I'm thinking of picking up a 1991 Sambar 4x4 tomorrow. Iisting says it spun a bearing and needs rebuilt. Would I have any issues finding parts? I don't see many internal parts on G&R imports? Thanks for the informative videos I'd not even be considering buying it I'd I didn't come across your channel.

      Talk to Todd at Proline Part out of California. He has everything you need. Does the engine still run? You want to be sure the engine has not kicked the rod out of the side of the block. New connecting rods are also available out of Japan. Happy to help where I can.

    That oil passage in the head sure is curious. Almost seems like you'd have an oil lance blasting that gasket in its stock configuration. I assume its feeding the valve train. Be handy to know Japanese and scour the Japanese subaru 4 cylinder hot rodding forums to see if they do any mods to that. I'm thinking something like dremelling a groove in the head to provide a more direct route to the other hole, or even drilling a hole in the head in the appropriate spot, even just 1/8" to meet up with the other hole for a more direct shot (assuming no voids).

      Yea it is super strange. You might have a good idea there.

      After watching your cylinder head video, I got to wondering if this doubles as an intentional oil restriction in an attempt to keep oil in the sump and not all end up in the valve cover. (With thoughts of sbc's and high volume oil pumps being able under the right conditons to suck the sump dry because the oil ends up in the top end).
      Smart thinking on their part from a cost-cutting point of view, terrible in that it relies on a tiny seal.
      Got some more questions swirling around, but its a case of just smart enough to be dangerous, not smart enough to know if I'm stepping deeper into the danger zone. =-)

    What type of carburetor needle and seat do you use in the carburetor

      Don't know that there are options, I would think OEM. I have not replaced them on one of these engines.

    Hi I’m Mike just picked up my first sambar truck 1991 wondering where I could purchase parts and or cross reference parts in Canada

      Suggest you join The Sambar Squad group on Facebook, lots of information there.
      I get my parts from Minitruck Garage in California. Talk to Todd and tell me I sent you, should get a bit of a break. He is a fellow Canadian and good to deal with on cross border shipping. Thanks for watching.

    Very informative video! I appreciate your work on this. I just imported a 1993. Runs like a top, but coolant looks sus. How many miles on this motor before it needed a head gasket?

    • @turnbullgarage88
      @turnbullgarage88  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Had around 120k kms on it.
