    Ok I bought I and I highly HIGHLY recommend it. Alex solos are all interesting conceptually, and yes very melodic!!! The tool itself is brilliant. Gonna spend some time on it all summer. Awesome recommendation.

    Enclosures, digital patterns, notes to resolve on, diminished chords used in voice leading, and so on. Lots of great stuff to shed here. Enough for the rest of the year for sure. Today was my first real day of enclosure practice 1 below, 1 above, 1/2 step below, then chord tone. Feels like a powerful tool to add to the tool belt! Thanks!

    Over a year ago Alex Hann came and was a guest and played with a group i was in the EPYJ and man. When he started shredding it was one of the most insane things. I remember he started played his soprano and playing a shaker at the same time. It was wild and so damn impressive. Truly set the bar. He was not only a insane musician but also a great entertainer. Really got everyone into his solos

    What I learned is that if I can just play up or down the chord tones, starting NOT on the root, and resolving when I get to the next chord, it will always sound right. Also learned how good the diminished arpeggios sound on the dominant chords.

    Always loving your videos and this one is as great as ever! I have a question about how you’re swinging the 8th notes. I noticed when you’re breaking down and playing sections slowly you’re pretty much playing them straight but with off-beat articulation. There are some bits, however, where you seem to change from straight to more noticeable swing (e.g. bars 15-16 are pretty straight then you swing the 8ths in bar 17). Is this a conscious decision? Thanks!

    • @Saxologic
      @Saxologic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not a conscious decision. I think it can sound corny very fast if you over-think swing. Swing is a form of swagger. Swing is an energy. It was the epitome of what it meant to be a cool and stylish musician (in America) during the Swing Era. Everyone that swings does it differently. It’s part of your identity. That’s what think I about, rather than “I must tie the first 2 notes of a triplet here!” etc

    I know all my majors and minors but i struggle off the top of my head to work out the note numbers in the scale. So 2 5 1 of C major takes me a while to figure out, is there any tips to remembering note intervals or a good method? D G C, but i have to mimic counting up the scale, Like, how do i train my brain to instantly know and pair G is the 5th of C major, or Bb is the 4th of F major etc. It's hard from memory because all notes are different numbers depending on the scale. Eeeeek

    Do you do private lessons? I watched this whole thing and everything you said was so very confusing but also intriguing, I'd like to understand chord structure
