    It´s a joy to see you work!!! I´m from Sweden myself and i can tell you that "Nyckelharpa" means "Key Harp" in English. So nice to see the result.
    Im thinking that if the sound from the violin isn¨t totally precise, maybe it´s because of the "built in" tone stick. The tone stick could be too "soft" together with the lid or too "stiff". Anyway keep up the good work!
    Best regards, Peter

      Thanks, I hope to start the next version soon; it's a great instrument.

    Really nice work! I am a luthier and I always love different approaches to building instruments. I do, however think that using bent sides may be a better approach. It will be 50 times lighter and perhaps a bit stronger. There is no grain run off with bent sides.

      Theses instruments are traditionally built with solid sides, I prefer bent sides myself as well, the next version will definitely be made that way.

      I'm working on it. There a lot of lessons I have learned on this one that I will use to make the next one better.

    What kinds of wood are needed to build nyckelharpa?

      I'm not using traditional woods here. I usually use tonewoods that work well for violin family instruments, as this is certainly in the group.

    Question about your neck attachment...is it just glued or is it also screwed into the body? Thanks!

    • @TwoCherriesIns
      @TwoCherriesIns  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just glue, as long as the joint is a good fit it doesn't require fasteners.

    Great series! Any idea on where to get the raw wood blocks? I live in the US.
    Also just wanted to know if the CAD files are open source.

      Thanks, I purchase lumber from mcbeth hardwoods locally and bellforestproducts.com has a pick your own option that I use frequently. I may release some of the CAD/CAM work at some point either through patreon or on instructables.com when the series is complete. For now this instrument is very much a prototype, there will be a lot of changes...

      TwoCherriesIns looking forward. Sorry if I missed it in the video. Which wood species are you using?

    • @TwoCherriesIns
      @TwoCherriesIns  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The top is Sitka spruce, sides and neck are alder, and the keys and key rails are all maple.

      Do you think you would sell machined parts once this has left the prototype stage? I've been wanting to build one ever since Johan Hedin released his paper on it back in 2004, but I simply don't have the heavy tools for it. With the parts already machined it'd be considerably easier.

    • @TwoCherriesIns

      Possibly, I've got my work cut out for me, there is an amazing amount of detail in they things. I make a lot of parts for guitar makers through my website twocherriesinstruments.com so that would certainly be interesting for me.
