defender is not the only thing that microsoft created that failed us. Windows itself is inherently unsafe and insecure in the way it handles permissions and how you generally need to install software. Other OSes rarely even need to use an antivirus program. Over in penguinland, Linux doesn't have this problem. In order for most malware to do its thing you pretty much have to let it do so explicitly. A simple sudo command like thing for windows would help greatly.
