"Nothing fancy..." Yikes, you make it look so simple Cal. Might give this a bang this week (if I catch some mackies after work tonight). Now where's that tahini........? Cheers buddy - good shout. Loving the catch n cook vids. Inspirational yo.
@@FISHINGWITHCAL yeah man, we have some but never used it like this. DEFINITELY giving that recipe a bang. Ever thought about a recipe channel or book even? @@jackd8747 I’m not equipped to set up a cooking channel. It’s crossed my mind but it would take quite a lot to do it successfully. Fishing is easy to film with GoPros etc, a cooking channel would definitely need good cameras and someone else to film it. Never say never, but for now I’ll stick to the fishing.
@@FISHINGWITHCAL Ah, that's a sod! You need a second. While there are catch n cook things out there a plenty, you have an edge man. Love that recipe Chef!! Dressing very nice. All I need now is to catch some bloody fish!! Dragged myself out on Sunday first light to fish the tide up on a mark I like, 3 hrs not a sniff, not even a Pollock! The lack of fish now in around my area is so disappointing. Hope to be out on my boat soon so that should bring a few in I hope!! Thanks for the recipe Cal 👍
Thanks a lot mate! That’s a shame about your session. The fishing over here has been really bad lately too, although this time of year is always rubbish here. That’s why I've been on the mackerel a few times.
Brilliant Cal, that looked delicious. I wrote down the ingredients in the sauce. Sounds like something I don’t usually cook with, (anchovies). But I am interested to give it a go. Thank you.
Nice video Cal i received my expanse LS. From Grant couple weeks ago just the right size for Irish bass 15/60gm i too amaze of the casting distance love it
Pulled out three plump, sweet, Cornish mackerel on Friday evening, on an after work session with a workmate at St Agnes Head. First of the year, fresh mackerel is amazing!!! Definitely appreciate the mackies more after you sharing about them now being on the amber list, and no longer sustainable.
I caught 2 good Mackies at Penhale Corner Perranporth and the day before nearly landed a 10lb bass it jumped out the water before my eyes and spat the lure gutted
Nice one mate! The first mackerel of the year are always exciting. Hopefully they’ll be many more to come, it’ll be interesting to hear what the mackerel fishing is like where you are this season. We'll see how it pans out over here.
I finally broke my drought of getting blanks and caught a ton of pollock but the bass are just (for me) impossible to catch so I try and go back to your videos to do my homework about the sea bass 😁👍🏻🇮🇪
Well done on the pollock 👍🏼 Sometimes it can be like that mate, if the bass aren’t there, then you aren’t going to catch them. If it makes you feel any better, the bass fishing over here lately has been terrible so I've not been out much. They'll show up soon though, hang in there 👍🏼
I've been meaning to get a rough guide to figure out the distance of a cast. The reel I'm using has a retrieve of 103cm per turn of the reel so I'll have to count the turns next time I'm out.
i want to buy a rod for fishing exactly like this what would be better (casting weight 10-35g 8 foot spinning) or (casting weight 15 - 40 9 foot spinning)
It depends what you’ll be using it for mate. I use a 9ft rod for my bass fishing at the moment which is rated 7-35g. Most of the lures I use are between 15g and 30g so it works for me. I have 8ft rods which i really like too. To be honest, either of the rods you mentioned will be ideal for lure fishing. You can still ping out a 40g metal on a rod rated to 30/35g, you just have to be a little careful. A longer rod will get you a little further cast too.
@@henrydunne3051 Yeah you’re right mate, it's not. Some days it can be awesome, but those days are a lot rarer then they used to be. Can just be right time right place sometimes. Doyle was rubbish for mackerel last year.
Yeah I’ve done a few C&C’s with bass before but I don’t keep many bass so that’s the reason. I’ll do another one throughout the summer at some point though 👍🏼
You can't beat fresh mackerel, now I'm hungry 🤓
Great video Cal….your catch and cook are always really enjoyable, well done xx
Two lovely mackies cal.i love the fight they put up.that meal you cooked up and put together looked amazing.well done cal.

Na there’s nothing fancy about that mate, I keep it simple when cooking fish most of the time. You can get tahini from most supermarkets over here 👍🏼

lovely catch and cook, wish we had some action here
Apart from a few mackerel there’s not much else being caught here at the moment either from the shore. Hopefully it picks up for you soon. Cheers.
That was a delicious looking meal Cal. Perfect for summer. This Mrs does something similar with pickerel👍🇨🇦

Great session if theres a lot of mackerel about is there a good chance the bass are amongst them
Great job with the 40g jig. I had a few Mackerel last week in Devon, gonna try this recipe on my next visit. Cheers Cal.

Thanks. Anchovies are great in things like dressings etc. They add a saltiness to the dressing without adding a fishy taste. Well worth trying.

This is definitely my next purchase, would you recommend using the 3500 slammer on this rod or a slightly larger reel like the 4500?
I use the 3500 which will more than handle anything the Uk has to throw up.
Great video Cal, except for the olives that looked deliciously fresh, what is Tahini? 👍👍
Cheers Pat 👍🏼 Not a fan of olives no? Tahini is made from ground sesame then you can add other things to it to spice it up a bit.
My local beach is Folkestone and everyone seems to be catching mackerel. We got 1 in a few hours. 😅
That's how it goes sometimes isn’t it. If you’re there at the right time it can be great and other times you struggle to catch.
