Loved your reaction to Ted by the way. Definitely need to check out Kung Pow - Enter The Fist. It’s a kung foo spoof it takes all the ridiculousness and melodrama of 70s Hong Kong flicks and dials it up to eleven. 😂 Leaps and bounds better than kung fu hustle. You’d love it
@Brandon, I remember that wait, it was terrible! I am currently reading Patrick Stewart’s Memoir (Making It So, highly recommend) and he has a bit about how he was shocked by how much the show was effecting people. He had someone pull up to him in Los Angeles and shout out “you’ve ruined our summer!” because of the cliffhanger.
I had the pleasure of working on the episode Conspiracy. Did the stop motion for a couple of those shots. Only had one day to setup and animate the shots because of the tight schedule. Thanks for watching this episode. I hadn't seen it for decades.
I heard Roddenberry got "notes" on the climax and sent it back gorier and gorier until they understood that they should shut up! And the is why the end is so over the top. Do you know if that is true?
Fun fact, they were worried that the exploding head scene was too graphic so they had one of the kids of one of the production team watch it. Not only did the kid love it, he suggested they should introduce an 'Exploding Head Remmick' action figure!
its so over the top and unexpected that it actually makes it less disturbing, in my opinion anyway. I only wish that TNG had done more risky stuff like this more often but I'm happy we have this legendary moment.

Star ships like the Enterprise usually have "sonic showers" for getting clean. Worf clearly hates getting wet, so he would hate old-school bathing and showering.

Picture a Sunday evening way back when this episode aired (in my country) around 7:30pm in a mildly conservative christian family eating dinner in the living room as their son is watching the TNG episode 'Conspiracy' on the TV... The adults are mostly talking to themselves but also regularly tuning in mentally to the show the kid (me) is watching... only for a guy at one point is slowly flayed by phaser fire then explodes... lets just say their expressions we're... amusing.
These are two of my favorite episodes of TNG because they illustrate a contrast to Gene Roddenberry’s idealism. “Conspiracy” showed them having to “destroy life,” despite what Riker said. “Neutral zone” ironically ends with the American capitalist contrasting to Roddenberry’s Socialism, and ultimately showing up the idealistic diplomat serving as ship’s captain.
30:23 Mark! Before the fourth movie, I wondered why they chose "Humans" rather than "Earthlings" but as the fourth movie reminds us, we aren't the only intelligent life on this planet. 😉
Neutral Zone is, as she says, important, because having the Romulans in the series is a big deal. I think they originally intended the Ferengi to be the big enemy for TNG, but that didn't really work out (because, among other things, they were depicted a bit too comically; the salesman was more menacing than the Ferengi in that first episode they were in), so then they were like, hmm, with the Klingons being friendly, and the Ferengi not scary enough, and the fans can only stomach Q once or twice a season, so who can we bring in for a _serious_ enemy? Let's see, what other dangerous races do we have from TOS... oh, right, them, yes, of course. Duh. And then we get to TBoBW...
I should mention that those of us who read star trek novels see many of these one-episode characters and situations brought back for new adventures that watchers of video do not get to experience. ( My favorite is a book called "Dyson Sphere " which picks up where the episode "Relics" left off.) The revived gentleman from this episode who lost all his money went on to find his new place in the federation. Per Memory Alpha - "Ralph Offenhouse was played by Peter Mark Richman. Offenhouse also appears in the novel Debtors' Planet, where he has parlayed his financial expertise - all but obsolete within the Federation - into a new career as an ambassador to the Ferengi Alliance."
Jen, after being disappointed by this past Saturday's predicted "snowstorm" only putting about an eighth of an inch on the ground, the sentiment expressed on your sweatshirt brought a smile to my face. Thank you.
I love Star Trek so much. Thank you Jen for watching it with us. You making these videos is something I look forward to every weekend. Live long and prosper my friends 🖖
12:15 Mark! Another stunt scene meant to demonstrate the alien's strength and how tough Geordi's body is, I guess. (As if they were in a Western Genre movie's saloon?) But to me, it demonstrates shoddy ship construction! 😁
I have been anxiously awaiting the Conspiracy reaction. Can’t wait. I’m really looking forward to the TNG film reactions as well, especially Generations.
Re: Gory ending - not only did some of us not see it coming, we didn't see it at all because some channels decided it was a little too much & censored it, we only got the full experience years later with the release of the boxset. As for the cryo-storyline, it's a little forced as they could have assigned people from the crew to manage & help them learn about where they were in time. It's an interesting concept & while everyone you knew would be gone, that's going to be the case for many if they live long enough.
You mentioned the Romulan ship being huge. In case you want to know "how huge" exactly...... The Romulan Warbird is roughly double the size of the Enterprise. Eric, my notifications show you sent me a kind reply today, but TH-cam won't let me go there. I'm guessing you replied to my comment on today's poll, but the poll isn't showing up now. Anyway, thanks.
Fun true fact about Dr. Crusher: Throughout the entire TNG TV series, she never misses a single phaser shot. Surgical precision both on the operating table and in combat.
Man, Star Trek Sundays with Jen are so much fun I almost want the weekend to pass quicker so they arrive sooner. _Almost_ :). And there we go, S1 under our belts. As fun as that was, the episodes only get better IMO. S2 here we come !
The Neutral Zone sets up a lot the return of the Romulans the introduction of the Romulan Warbird the D’deridex Class and sets up a major Villian not only for TNG but for the Trek Universe
I love how they're all judgy about the 20th century people. Data's like, "What is to be done with them?" Riker is like, "There's not much to redeem them."
this episode really exposes how bad security is, not only can anyone get to the bridge they can do it without being noticed anyone can access those panels without a code and there are new people on board without a security escort.
I watched so much of the original series in syndication as a kid (too young to see it live), and I remember my whole family was excited when TNG came out. But Conspiracy was the first episode that I really really liked. It did something very new for Star Trek and also implied a more serial story. Very cool.
16:44 Mark! Not just gore, you got vore too! 😮 Hmm. Now that's a bumper sticker slogan! "Gore & Vore in 1988!" 😁 (Or whichever year the episode debuted.)
From an interview I read from the writers.... originally the Borg we're going to be a bug species. The technology just wasn't there and it was deemed too expensive. Years later, when technology improved, Star Trek Voyager had species 8472, a hive mind bug species.
@@zairman okay, so would a conventional bullet be faster than a phaser? Are they trained to dodge phasers since they’re so slow? I have so many more questions now 🤔
It's been fun to see you watch and enjoy this series as much as I do. And it's so cute to hear you go "pa-pa-pa-paaa~" everytime you hear the theme song. xD It is a great composition so no one can blame you for doing that.
It's not that Captain Picard was hesitant or trying to be friendly vs Hostile toward the Rommies, he was was being militarily responsible. The military order on this is second to none 😊
As having never watched Star Trek, I hope you do continue the series. As for the last episode I feel like they're doing the classic TV thing, setting up for season 2. As for the humans being brought back, just a little nudge at dealing with your past? and moving forward? Great reaction Jen.
Great eps today, Jen, and I think you almost hit 1.3K. These Next Jen premieres are a big hit because you're so much fun. Thanks! Time now for immediate rewatch!
Awesome reactions from Jen. Especially to the amazing episode Conspiracy. I can still remember when the episode was originally shown on UK tv, the BBC cut out all of the gross effects from the climax and it wasn't until I purchased it on VHS ( video tape ) that I got to see it! :)
At that point Picard is by the window, several feet behind Riker. The camera angle also appears slightly elevated which would enhance the effect. The clip immediately before has Picard just in front of Riker, and the height difference is only a few inches (slightly above average 5'10" vs somewhat tall 6'2.5")
Jen, none of us watching the broadcast that night were ready for the gore. Ending with the sound of the homing signal,....icing on the cake for this horror episode.
19:49 Mark! Wow! I wasn't counting! At least your first time didn't involve involuntary waiting between episodes! Hmm. I don't remember what Season Two begins with. 🤔
Great reaction video. I’m 51 years old and I remember watching these episodes when they aired back in 1987. Jean Luke Picard’s negotiation skills were incredible! He really had to show restraint while dealing with the Romulan Commander. It had been a long time since the last contact between the Romulans and the Federation but the two sides were still on very bad terms with each other after all these years! Picard stayed calm and picked his words carefully or that encounter could have ended badly. I still remember how blown away I was when that Romulan Warbird decloaked directly in front of the Enterprise. That ship was massive! It was impressive back then and it still is now!
That tiny little moment where Worf runs into the door and grunts. 😆 This was one of the few 1st season episodes I liked. And strangely, some people hate it.
When this first aired, I'd gotten through the first season but it wasn't quite "there" for me yet. "The Neutral Zone" with the reappearance of the Romulans...this, for me, is when the series started. It somehow now seemed grounded in the universe I'd known for so long. What a journey since Farpoint.
they were worried that REMMICK's DEATH was too gruesome the special effects guy brought his son to see it his son said : " COOL " , I want a figure with a head that explodes "
Great reaction Jen. "Conspiracy" was THE darkest Star Trek episode of any series ever aired. I remember watching it during the original airing and being shocked at the ending. We had never seen Star Trek like that before. I understand that in some markets, stations substituted a rerun or edited the episode to eliminate the head explosion. Not sorry my station ran it unedited, but was not prepared for it certainly. Looking forward to season 2 along with you. Thanks!
Anyone leaving a comment please no spoilers for future episodes would be appreciated not just for Jen herself but for those who are watching for the first time , let's not spoil it . Us mods do what we can but I can't be awake 24/7 and weekly more and more spoilers have been appearing so just a friendly reminder hold that excitement in and keep comments current thankyou 🖖 have a wonderful sunday and enjoy the live chat if youre attending 👍
Some people live encountered enjoy the truncated reactions, because they can get through shows faster and still get the basic plot points or they just don’t have time/energy to watch an entire episode. I’d go off on a soapbox rant about how our society of instant gratification has developed into a want for immediate exposure to damn near everything without the the effort or work, but I don’t have the time (he said tongue in cheek).
Once again, I'm having a great time watching these episodes with you. It was so long ago that I watched them that I don't remember most of what happens so it is like watching for the first time.
The look on Riker's face when he looked at Picard as if wondering if they were going to communicate with the thing, then you see Picard in pure disgust firing away, then Riker "oh yeah, let's vaporize this thing".
Looking forward to it as always Jen hope you are having a stress free lovely weekend so far 💙 oh and that thumbnail 😮 someone's been in the sun to long and forgot the suncream 😅
Hey Hey there Admiral Jen Murray. I remember when these episodes first aired. The episode Conspiracy was pretty surprising. Love your reaction, as always. Enjoy the rest of your day.🖖🙂 Live long, and prosper.
I remember at the time when these first aired on the BBC in the UK in 91, i was more hyped up by the return of the "You Know Whos" in the first season climax... But "Conspiracy" was very Very Edge of The Seat stuff... although the Beeb cut the ending to shreds on its initial outing (possibly not the sort of thing they wanted us to see with our tea at 6pm 😂) and it was a while (probably another 6 or 7 you) until we got to see the complete version (unless you had the overpriced VHS tapes)... These watched alongside Next Jen should be very cool !
on the initial showing on german tv, they had cut/censored only a few seconds from showing the head (what the thumbnail shows) to his explosion. but i find that quite understandable when showing it in a family (including children) "age unlimited" time slot.
Yeah, watching this I was thinking "Well, pretty sure _that_ wasn't on BBC2 at 6 o'clock" :). (couldn't remember seeing it but then a lot of S1 is a blank, never having rewatched it) ((and infamously of course, avoiding spoilers, there's "The High Ground", which many UK fans didn't see at all for years. Kind of apropos too, given we're now living in 2024 :))
Great reaction Jen no one expected the hedgehog explode or the creature to pop out of the chest like alien I can’t believe people think season one and two are terrible. He doesn’t get good till season three they say that’s crazy. I think she’s one great except for Tashi dying. There was a big raider strike, going on season one and two so they had to use script from Star Trek phase 2 to get the show which was from the original sequel series of original Star Trek that never happened because they went to a movie instead of the series, there were a lot of episodes ready to go With a new crew description very good you can see the shows online fans have made the show online all the episodes and this series ended up right up to motion. The last episode of the show goes right up to the motion picture and the show is online to the cast members crew part they play their relatives, Parts, Scotty’s nephew in real life, but they were so good because they had cast members made appearances in their movies and their shows so Paramount sued and band. Most films have to have no actors no uniforms no real props can’t be more than half an hour long, so then not as good as they were, but I think that was mistake. They should embrace the fan films for the last episode of the season that was funny because I was a huge fan of course and I’m also a huge fan Atlanta Braves baseball team so my guitar player says get the Braves to see if they find a way to lose And they won 95 the World Series that’s so funny cause they could’ve told him that but this was 87 so he didn’t know yet about 95 would you see who responsible for the post no spoilers thanks for the fun until next time commander, Jen live , long and prosper
I like the mysterious ending of "Conspiracy". Jen, your reaction to the gore was perfect. First time I saw it, I was amazed. "Did I really just see this on a television show?!" Jen, your reactions to this show is marvelous.
This is one of my top favorite episodes "Conspiracy." I never hear anyone talk about it so I've felt so alone in loving it, but from the looks of the comments here, it seems I'm not so alone as I thought. I love the bit or horror in it, the sudden gore, and the fact they went there. The gore looked pretty good too I thought, at the time at least. Don't think I had really seen anything like that before on tv around then. One of my other favorite eps (no spoilers) from a future season is also a bit of the horror genre, I can't wait for you to get there and it's gonna be a while. So glad you are doing two episodes at a time each video. Also the pay off from the previous episode of those two characters coming to the enterprise to test the crew. It seems they hadn't been taken over at that point? And then that the one guy was the main bad guy alien. I'm actually kinda surprised an episode like this came so early in this series's run. It's kinda risky subject matter and gore. Sometimes a show will do stuff like this late in a show's lifetime.
The last 2 shows became my favorites of all the shows in the 1st season, Conspiracy, #1, The Neutral Zone, #2, with Arsenal Of Freedom at #3. 4. We'll Always Parris 5. Hide And Q 6. Where NO One Has Gone Before 7. Home Soil 8. Skin Of Evil 9. Justice 10. Heart Of Glory 11. When The Bough Breaks 12. Too Short A Season 13. Datalore 14. 1001001 15. Encounter At Farpoint 16. The Big Goodbye 17. The Battle 18. Lonely Among Us 19. Symbiosis 20. Coming Of Age 21. The Last Outpost 22. Angel One 23. The Naked Noe 24. Code Of Honor What were yours, Jen?? Oh, you still owe us a James Bond list as well, I hope. By the way, during TNG's 1st season there was another show called War Of The World's that came after TNG which ran from 1988 that had those gruesome effects throughout the show that Conspiracy had. I don't know if that inspired TNG to take the gruesome effect of that one episode but I loved it. Can't wait for you to start season 2 on YT and have fun with season 3 on Patreon as 3 became one of the best as well as season 4. Now, I await your next series with the start of Dirty Harry!! omg i love this girl she is so much fun and smart enjojble watching whit her star trek keep good work
16:44 Mark! Oh yeah, by the way! I seem to remember that one admiral being in the series "The High Chaparral" back in the day. 🤔
Next-gen Next-Jen, it's like getting a second scoop instead of just one!🖖🤓
👋Hey Eric, how are You doing tonight?
@@tomhoffman4330 I'm OK,my sister has a back issue though. Nothing major. How you doin?
@@e.d.2096 Sorry to hear...My Mom is having some similar aches too. I myself have been struggling between severe Boredom and some Sleep-Deprivation.🥱
Eric, my notifications show you sent me a kind reply today, but TH-cam won't let me go there. I'm guessing you replied to my comment on today's poll, but the poll isn't showing up now. Anyway, thanks.
@@kevinlewallen4778 I sent another 'well said! ' notation. And I'll say it again, Well Said!

Klingons are cool, but I wish they did a show in which the Romulans get as developed as the Klingons and Cardassians.
I love how they're all judgy about the 20th century people. Data's like, "What is to be done with them?" Riker is like, "There's not much to redeem them."
When we saw this originally, it was shocking that they showed something so brutal on regular TV, but also that it was Star Trek of all shows.
this episode really exposes how bad security is, not only can anyone get to the bridge they can do it without being noticed anyone can access those panels without a code and there are new people on board without a security escort.
Also they need seatbelts on the bridge chairs. It's been bothering me for decades. People getting thrown all over the place in battle!
@@tyharris9994 They got them in the Kelvin universe.
I like how Data made him a guitar with "Sonny" in gold sparkles.
The legendary Romulan D’deridex Warbird makes its first appearance, it’s my all time favorite Star Trek ship!
I watched so much of the original series in syndication as a kid (too young to see it live), and I remember my whole family was excited when TNG came out. But Conspiracy was the first episode that I really really liked. It did something very new for Star Trek and also implied a more serial story. Very cool.
Thank you once again for posting Star Trek Next Generation here on TH-cam
That's a hell of a thumbnail. If I didn't already know the context I'd be freaked right the heck out.
"Is it a beautiful woman? It **IS** a beautiful woman!! Mmmmmmmm...." (19:22)
The unmitigated shock, horror and disgust was priceless. So glad you are watching tng. Lot of ❤

16:44 Mark! Not just gore, you got vore too! 😮
Hmm.
Totally loled at 14:43 slowest laser ever 🤣 ☠️
Nah, their jumping reflexes are just faster than the speed of light.
Phasers aren't lasers. They are plasma weapons. So they don't travel at light speed.
@@zairman okay, so would a conventional bullet be faster than a phaser? Are they trained to dodge phasers since they’re so slow? I have so many more questions now 🤔
Every time I see someone watching "Conspiracy" for the first time my heart starts pounding like it's going to burst out of my chest. Great stuff!
It's been fun to see you watch and enjoy this series as much as I do.
And it's so cute to hear you go "pa-pa-pa-paaa~" everytime you hear the theme song. xD
It is a great composition so no one can blame you for doing that.
I'm going all the way with you Jen. I can't wait to see your reaction on DS9. I hope it will be part of your journey. It's my fav ST show of all time.
And rightly so!
I just finished rewatching DS9 for the umpteenth time. :) It has become my hands-down favorite ST series.
It's not that Captain Picard was hesitant or trying to be friendly vs Hostile toward the Rommies, he was was being militarily responsible.
The military order on this is second to none 😊
It's so cute when Jennie gets all excited and hyped about everything, even the fanfare. =)
7:20 never realized how small Picard is. 😅
I was thinking the same thing!! Being a TH-cam edit and not the full episode I'm not even sure what's going on to make it appear this way
At that point Picard is by the window, several feet behind Riker. The camera angle also appears slightly elevated which would enhance the effect. The clip immediately before has Picard just in front of Riker, and the height difference is only a few inches (slightly above average 5'10" vs somewhat tall 6'2.5")
His bio lists 5' 10" but he is about 5' 8". A full 6 inches shorter than Frakes.
The 20th Century suit would be great in Intelligence once he's adapted to the 24th Century.
Conspiracy made a big impression on me when I first saw it.
The D'Deridex is still a thing of beauty.
Sunday, finally, Star Trek TNG with Jen! 🙂
That tiny little moment where Worf runs into the door and grunts. 😆
This was one of the few 1st season episodes I liked. And strangely, some people hate it.
Thanks Captain Jen!
Nice reaction as usual!
Romulan ships are freaking amazing. Probably my favorite ships outside the Enterprises.
When this first aired, I'd gotten through the first season but it wasn't quite "there" for me yet. "The Neutral Zone" with the reappearance of the Romulans...this, for me, is when the series started. It somehow now seemed grounded in the universe I'd known for so long. What a journey since Farpoint.
they were worried that
REMMICK's DEATH

It's a good rule of thumb that if there's something shady going on in the Alpha Quadrant the Romulans are directly (or at least partially) invovled.
Understood.
Who is watching a reaction to a show they've never watched?
@@DanielRichards644Some people watch episode by episode and the reactions after each one.
@@DanielRichards644 they could be watching the full episode then joining live chat to interact maybe ??
Sweeet. Conspiracy and Datalore are my favorite season one episodes. Can't wait for season two. 😊
Hey Hey there Admiral Jen Murray. I remember when these episodes first aired. The episode Conspiracy was pretty surprising. Love your reaction, as always. Enjoy the rest of your day.🖖🙂 Live long, and prosper.
Lol Worf is only ever there to get his butt kicked and show how strong the enemy of the week was.
Watching this after the Redlettermedia vid had me looking for mis-labelled doors and bits of tape stuck to carpet!
(couldn't remember seeing it but then a lot of S1 is a blank, never having rewatched it)
((and infamously of course, avoiding spoilers, there's "The High Ground", which many UK fans didn't see at all for years.
"Did I really just see this on a television show?!"
Jen, your reactions to this show is marvelous.
🖖😊
8:35 Mark! Hmm. I forget now which movie, but that's a reused movie scene! 🤔
The last 2 shows became my favorites of all the shows in the 1st season, Conspiracy, #1, The Neutral Zone, #2, with Arsenal Of Freedom at #3.

Thank you.
