@@aeryncowel2012 yes deary, we know about his spinal condition, his character however did not have a spinal condition which is why it's referred to as the Riker manoeuvre.
The Riker maneuver, the Riker lean, and the Riker stance are all connected to a real-life issue. Jonathan had injured his back years before signing on to TNG. The injury made it difficult to sit normally in a regular chair without a great deal of discomfort. The chairs on the show had low backs to them allowing him to easily sling his leg over which put him in a slightly more comfortable straddling position (he calls it the "Cocky Cowboy Maneuver" because it sounds more befitting of Riker's personality). You'll also notice him leaning when he is sitting for the same reason, it's just less painful, especially when you're standing up and sitting down a lot having to do multiple takes. The Riker stance is done for the same reason (where he always stands with one foot up on something, kind of like the Captain Morgan), thus not putting pressure solely on the center of the spine as opposed to standing straight or at attention. Sadly, people tend to make fun of other people's actions and behaviors when they don't bother to simply inquire as to why someone does that. Remember that the next time someone makes fun of the way Sylvester Stallone talks, there's a story behind that as well, he's actually a very intelligent individual, but people perceive him differently because of the way he talks. Sad world mad world. Anyway, loved the review, love you, take care and stay safe ❤️
IIRC, Whoopie was one of the biggest stars at the time, having just won an Oscar for Ghost, and wanted to be in TNG. She told Levar to talk to the producers who did not believe him and she herself talked to them to show she was serious. Many believe that her being on the show, at the height of her fame, brought TNG into the spotlight.
She won the Oscar a few years later. I was 12 when this season started, and I knew Whoopi from that movie Burglar as well as the Comic Relief specials on H.B.O.
I went to a Star Trek convention the summer after this season aired, and Marina Sirtis (Troi) and Jonathan Frakes (Riker) were the guests. Someone asked Sirtis how she felt about doing this episode and Troi having a kid, and she was like, well it was fun playing a mom but the giving birth part was really awkward and weird because she'd had no time to prepare how to do it, and she wasn't supposed to be in any pain or anything normal, so she wasn't sure what to do, and then they had her sit in this weird chair that was supposed to be a futuristic birthing chair, and she felt so embarrassed about doing the scene, felt like she was failing at it, and then she looked over and saw Frakes watching her, tears in his eyes, and his reaction reassured her she was getting it right. She talked about what a great costar he is to have on set, and of course Frakes smiled and changed the subject. They were so adorable together on stage. I remember that convention like it was yesterday. Hard to believe it's been over 30 years now! Where does the time go? X) You asked a lot of questions but I don't want to answer them and spoil things for you, so just watch. Loved your reactions! LOL'd when you exclaimed: Beard! The beard! Riker has a beard! :D :D :D
Whoopi Goldberg had already starred in many movies by this time but asked the producers of TNG to be on the show. As she told the story when she was a kid, she saw TOS and saw Nichelle Nichols and ran to her mother and yelled "Mama there's a black lady on tv and she ain't no maid". She wanted to be part of Trek and Guinian became a great addition to the TNG Crew.
Not only that, she initially reached out to LeVard about being on the show during the first season, but as I recall they didn't believe him or know what to make of the request. She then followed up with LeVar and he helped put her in touch with Gene and Berman.
The uniform change is due to the fact Worf is now Chief of Security and Geordi is Chief Engineer. The uniform colours represent the different departments in Starfleet. Red is Command, Gold if Operations and Security and Blue is Sciences. Also, I love that in Nagilum episode Wesley is at the Helm except for that scene where that poor Helmsmen gets killed.
FUN FACT: Diana Muldaur (the actress who plays Dr. Pulaski) also acted in the original Star Trek series as Science Officer Dr. Ann Mulhall in "Return to Tomorrow" and Dr. Miranda Jones in "Is There in Truth No Beauty?" She was brought on board in TNG after Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher) left the show in Season 2.
Diana Muldaur was on TOS twice. I don't know how many episodes or seasons of TOS you watched but she's a veteran Star Trek actor with guest roles. Many many actors have played multiple guest roles on Star Trek series. It's even easier with the alien makeup on Star Trek shows.
Jen Murray, greetings to you! 🖖 I haven't viewed the video yet, though. Ahem. I prefer "Beverley Crusher" to "Katherine Pulaski" but, during Cheryl's absence, she got to be in movies such as "The Hunt for Red October"! (By the way! As a dancer/choreographer, she uses the credit "Cheryl McFadden" and for acting uses "Gates McFadden"! If I recall her anecdotes correctly, she performs in "Labyrinth" and "The Dark Crystal"! She told us which tree she was in one of them, but I've forgotten since then as I've not seen the movies for decades now.) Diana Muldaur is in "L.A. Law" by the way. Never enter an elevator while walking backwards! The car may not be there when the doors open! She plays two other doctors in the original series and provides the voice for an alien while being a hostess body. She was so sexy-pretty back then that I was shocked by how different she had become! 😮
Wasn’t there some bad blood between Gates McFadden and one of the producers of the show, which caused her to leave or get fired, one or the other? This probably contributed to Diana Muldaur not gelling with the rest of the cast, in spite of being a damn’ fine actor with a list of credits as long as your arm. There was a lot of producer driven weirdness in the first couple seasons of the show.
Or rather a failed attempt at one. They tried to re-create the Spock/Bones dynamic with Data but there was one big problem; Spock would counter Bones's snarky comments with his own witticisms. But since Data is an emotionless being who doesn't do snark, Pulaski's treatment of him comes across like bullying.
Aside from that opening scene and Worf acting like some berserker cave man Where Silence Has Lease is one of my favorite Next Jen episodes. And a constant watch during monster movie marathon month in Oct.
Next Gen was really hitting its stride here. "The Child" is one of the best episodes, and "Where Silence Has Lease" is my favorite episode of the entire series.
If no one has told you already, Riker hikes a leg over almost every chair he sits in and frequently has a foot up on something. It's because J Frakes has chronic back issues. He just worked it into his character.

The Riker Maneuver came about because of a back injury that Jonathan Frakes sustained years before Star Trek, and it makes sitting easier and less painful for him. It's also fitting for the character, because as Frakes has said, it's "a cocky cowboy move".
To answer your question at 3:09, Whoopi Goldberg had been known for her movies like “The Color Purple”, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”, and “Burglar”. But by 1988; going into TNG’s 2nd season, she was cast in a recurring role as Guinan. Because her role was a recurring role, it meant that she didn’t have to appear in every single episode. This was done to accommodate her film schedule for her upcoming movies she was going to make; one film she would work on would give her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The name of that film was “Ghost”.
A huge Star Trek fan here since I was a little kid in the 90's and from watching other TH-camrs Star trek reaction ! I have to say.. You by far are the best girl on TH-cam hands down 👍 .
I realise I'm in a very tiny minority, but one of the reasons Season 2 is my favourite is Pulaski; never did take to Crusher. This was the season I would have liked Home Soil to have been written for, as I believe it would have ended up being a much, stronger episode. It's still my favourite though; except for an episode that is still some ways away yet. But Pulaski is a major reason why I love Season 2 so much. TNG is still finding it's feet, with some of the lesser episodes still having the feel of Season 1, but this is one of the better episodes of the entire franchise (with the caveat that I have seen none of the newer shows ~ for reasons that would require spoilers). I think a lot of fans hated Pulaski not so much because she was different, but that she was not Crusher; amuses me because it was probably why I liked her :-) I remembered her from Star Trek & LA Law, but she also felt much more like McCoy and also the Doctor from the original Pilot, The Cage; whereas Crusher never gelled with me at all, Pulasli felt right immediately. kerk
One thing to note is there was a writers strike when this season started so they used old scripts from the unproduced Star Trek: Phase 2 series (not sure if that was the name) that was to feature some of the original cast members from Star Trek and new ones that made their way into Star Trek : The Motion Picture. Specifically Ilya, Decker, and the new science officer Xon. They eventual became Troi, Riker, and Data.

30:58 Mark! 2K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️ Notes: Another wonderful experience with you! 😊 Little did viewers back then know, that this cameo by an illusionary "Yamato" would freak out continuity observers because the hull numbers don't match when they finally do encounter the "Yamato"!"😅 Yes, a "Sherlock Holmes" story! The episode writers and others, just presumed it was within the Public Domain, when it wasn't yet! So they didn't get permission! 😕
11:10 Mark! The 2009 movie is not the first time that we hear "Kelvin"! Abrams loves his grandfather, paternal or maternal, I don't know, so much that he puts the word "Kelvin" in all that he does. But in-universe the Starship was named for Lord Kelvin, the scientist that invented the temperature scale that they just used! 😊
This one has the luckiest bathroom break ever. Just before the entity kills the helmsman Crusher is switched out for a "red shirt" then he returns just after. He must have been using the restroom when it happened. As he died I bet his was thinking "Damn you Wesley Crusher.
The scene where that crewmember dies is also a very popular meme gif on the internet. As soon as I saw the actor sitting there I knew this was the episode.
At least one comedic review of this episode has used manipulative editing to make it look like Geordi walks off the bridge because that helmsman died, as now, as the only other black guy on the bridge, he's just become expendable.
By the way! Others did that too before he did, including myself! In "Days of Our Lives" it happens often. I began doing it as soon as I could. I haven't done it lately, though. Hmm. Really? Not since my 20s?! 😮 Benches don't allow for it. 0:35 Mark!
Ten Forward is one of the most popular places on the ship. It is located on deck 10 at the very front of the saucer section (thus "Ten Forward") and it affords one of the best views, which is why it makes for a good lounge/bar.
Worf and Geordi transferred from "Command" Red, to "Operations" Gold in Season 2. Worf due to him taking over Security (after Tasha's passing), and Geordi because he assumed the role of Chief Engineer, and no longer permanently stationed on the bridge.
6:08 Mark! Well, their relationship is based on and/or inspired by that of Will Decker & Ilia in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". 🖖 Once the script recycling is over, everyone gets a chance to move on and be more original. There were plans for a series named "Star Trek: Phase 2" before "Paramount" wanted to compete with the first "Star Wars" movie. It got converted into the movie we know and other scripts got used up during the first two seasons of this series. 🤔
Welcome, Season 2 of TNG! 😃🎉🥳💜 Space. The final frontier. These are the reactions of the star-babe Jenterprise. Her continuing mission; to explore strange new shows. To seek out new flicks and movie civilizations. To boldly react to what no Jen* has seen before! *Murray of TH-cam
i understand Data walking away: unfeeling robot. Riker seems like he's upset she got pregnant without him. is he cold as a form of revenge/punishment? it's one of those small things that make you wonder: are they actually a good couple, or just attractive coworkers in close proximity forming a relationship of convenience.
Funny how they said there were no records of a "hole in space". That's exactly how the old-series episode "The Immunity Syndrome" started out, which I would highly recommend that episode
19:18 Mark! Oof! My perception of her has changed now that I've just realized that I'm now older than she was then! 😮 As long as I avoid seeing her younger self, I could get used to her, I suppose. 🤔
The first episode hits different after watching "Picard" S2 and reading Wil Wheaton's Biographie. Especially the part about Riker taking on a fatherly role for Wesley...
10:02 Mark! Guinan, as the lounge hostess of "Ten Forward" named for its location within the starship, is wearing an outfit meant to resemble it! The hat represents the primary hull! But it is too abstract I guess. Las Vegas, Nevada casino tourists and cruise ship tourists, may have seen the gimmick, though. 🤷♂️
I like your editing, and your remarks about the episodes. About the colors of the uniforms of Worf and LaForge, Laforge became the Chief Engineer, and Worf is the head of security, instead of Tasha Yar. Guinen (Woopie Goldberg) is a new Bar tender. (sorry about the changes, yesterday I was a bit out and my English got a bit whacked...
I loved Whoopi’s character, her unique species and her guidance councillor vibe was awesome. she played her beautifully. And made Many appearences on the show over the years.
I liked "The Child" a lot. Having a live force entity become human out of curiosity, becoming Troi's child. I love the way that she bonded with her son and that he had only good intentions. Once he realized that he was a danger to the ship, he left immediately, showing that he cared.
Since Yar, previous head of security wore a gold/yellow uniforrm, when Worf took over that role he also changed to a Yellow uniform. Geordi also took on a new role as chief engineer which was indicated by a uniform change.
I'm so happy that someone else noticed the theme song changes! My mom keeps denying that anything had changed. I've been fighting this battle on my own for DECADES! lol
I'm sure someone else has already said but if not; Dr. Crusher was taken off the show because one of the show writers did not like the actress. He got is way in season 2 but left the show afterwards. I don't believe it would be much of a spoiler at all to say that the actress who played Dr. Pulaski will leave the show for another TV series while the actress who played Dr. Crusher will make her return.
The Star Fleet delta-shaper communication device worn on crew member shirts is called a "Comm Badge". NOT a pin. I personally appreciate you getting into uniform when watching. Very fun. Good job!
Worf got a promotion to security so the uniform changes. Same with Geordi to Chief Engineer. Also there was a writers strike this season so that dips the quality a bunch and some scripts were reused from a Star trek show from the 70's that got scrapped. As for the Doctor she left the show this season over some disputes with a member of staff.
Another terrific Next Jen Sunday! It's always a pleasure to be with you, Jen! For music nerds, it's a little tricky to make out in the edit, but I believe Picard is listening to Erik Satie's piano work, Gymnopedie.
OMG Jen! I an one of those people that can pick up a minuscule, subtle change in a theme. But yes, the opening “Earth/moon” sequence sounds like it leans toward some kind of ethnic flute, while the first season was a simple string/synth. They also strengthened the timpani. Plus, for brevity, they cut the second bar (sorry if I got that wrong, I’m not a classically trained musician) that is part if Goldsmith’s theme. Also added was the cymbal/piati. I told someone that, they’d say “I cant tell the difference” Thought I was just weird! Anyone else have that “talent”?
@@punkrockpollyanna7829 Thank you for the kind words. I can also recite every line of the TOS films word for word, including Captain’s logs etc. like…8130.3. That opens my favorite. But I’m really showing my insanity now! Lol! Love you all, and we love you Jen! Great job. BTW, in Where Silence Has Lease, the helmsman’s death is horrific and terrifying. Especially because he died in horror clasping his hands as if he was praying. So creepy!
When I saw this when it first came out I was really surprised they did not reference the immunity syndrome episode from the original series which was similar. Love worf “captain there is a peaceful vessel of our starboard bow, let’s blow them up. “ Funny in silence has lease. Wesley is there then he leaves, & ensign dispensable takes his place does & then Wesley comes back. 😂
It's probably been said, but Whoopi Goldberg was already so famous that when she sent word through her agent that she wanted a part on TNG, the producers thought it was a joke at first. Why would a movie star want to be part of a syndicated sci-fi show on TV? The reason was, Uhura was a major influence to her growing up. In her words, "There's a black woman on TV, and she ain't no maid!" I do have to admit 13:45 kind of makes me choke up a bit nowadays... because it really, _really_ feels like when we hear about Wil Wheaton's years on the Enterprise, Jonathan Frakes was his primary male role model. As his dad was a verbally, emotionally, and physically abusive man who resented his son for being the breadwinner of the family. (It's also a little sad that Gates McFadden is not on the show at this time; she had a severe conflict with the showrunner for season 2 thus Doctor Pulaski was written into the show, but given that Wil's mom is almost legendarily one of the worst stage moms ever, to this day he calls Gates McFadden "Space Mom". And Anne Wheaton even calls Gates "Space Mom-in-law". No word if Ryan and Nolan Wheaton call her Space Grandma though...)
C3: Jonathan Frakes grew his beard in between Seasons 1 and 2, and, apparently, with Gene Roddenberry in attendance, the fans voted in favor of him keeping his beard! "Growing the Beard" is now an antonym for "Jumping the Shark"-i.e., a show gets good.
Hey jen! Love your new uniform! Im surprised no one noticed or said anything about the front chairs on the bridge being swivel chairs now instead of the reclined chairs in season 1. I always thought that was the most interesting change. That and pretty much the new color scheme of the whole bridge and everything in it. Lol.
The changed Uniformen mean that Geordi changed from command Position(red) to engineering (gold) same for worf, but he become security officer replacing Tasha Yar .
0:07 Absolutely!!! One of my lasting memories at sea was a Brown shoe asking a Black shoe, " why do we call her she"? The Blackie started waxing poetic about how "she's your best girl...ladies are loved...blah,blah,blah..." The oldest salt on the boat piped up like a gravelly avalanche, " BS! It's because she's full of seamen!" Never forgot that lesson😂
Picard had been a Captain before and had been thru multiple crises during that time. When Starfleet needed an experienced Captain, they called him out of retirement- and he got the Enterprise.
Okay! Let's argue! When was the choice I (or we) don't remember making? WANT = Thought and desire and act ? Ok. I change my mind on the arguing part. Just a passing imp-titty!! 😊
4:42 Mark! Oh yeah! In this state, this episode is seen as the one about "Pregnancy Abortion" as opposed to an aborted mission versus... I want to quote a Madonna song lyric here. 🤔

Geordi's and Worf's uniforms changed because they became Chief Engineer and Chief of Security respectively. A bit of a fun note on "The Child". The Riker stance is done for the same reason (where he always stands with one foot up on something, kind of like the Captain Morgan), thus not putting pressure solely on the center of the spine as opposed to standing straight or at attention.
You asked a lot of questions but I don't want to answer them and spoil things for you, so just watch. Loved your reactions! LOL'd when you exclaimed: Beard! The beard! Riker has a beard! :D :D :D
"Is she human just with a crazy hat?" 😂 Has to be my new favourite Jen quote. ❤
She then followed up with LeVar and he helped put her in touch with Gene and Berman.
.. and now she sits on the View spouting left-wing hate.
@@brelshar4968 Right, because she could be on Fox's The Five show spouting "love"(???) instead.🤔
Technically, Guinan is not a member of the crew; she's a civilian.
@@botz77 whataboutism doesn't one up arguments.
Thus continuing the red shirt gag from the original series. Lol.
Anyone ever noticed that Wesley's combadge is all silver opposed to official gold and silver?
@@23monkeybutts I did. It's actually kind of cool.
I love that you love Wesley! He was always one of my favourite characters, but I often feel alone in that. 😂
Wesley was my teenage crush. I've always loved him. And I always will.
@@SeanBlader Oh I wouldn't say "universally", I liked her 😁
Diana Muldaur was on TOS twice. I don't know how many episodes or seasons of TOS you watched but she's a veteran Star Trek actor with guest roles. Many many actors have played multiple guest roles on Star Trek series. It's even easier with the alien makeup on Star Trek shows.
Whoopi did it at the height of her career to give something back to Star Trek which with Uhura in TOS inspired her as a child
@daniellysohirka4258 And its her own fault too ... she has gotten very hateful in her old age. Sadly Patrick Stewart and Marina Sirtis have as well.

26:38 Early version of the movie Speed. "Shoot the hostage. Shoot the hostage?!? Yeah. Take it out of the equation."
She told us which tree she was in one of them, but I've forgotten since then as I've not seen the movies for decades now.)
Diana Muldaur is in "L.A. Law" by the way. Never enter an elevator while walking backwards! The car may not be there when the doors open!
She plays two other doctors in the original series and provides the voice for an alien while being a hostess body.
She was so sexy-pretty back then that I was shocked by how different she had become! 😮
10:30 "Maybe it's growing, like, the same way the _kid's_ growing."
Now, Jen, no fair jumping to the end.
I liked Dr. Polaski, she brought some much needed McCoy to the sick bay.
I liked her too.
I know Pulaski tends to get a lot of criticism from fans, but i like her, i admit i do prefer Crusher, but i still think Pulaski is really good.
@@karlmortoniv2951 Could be, I honestly don't remember that.
Picard tugging his uniform is called The Picard Maneuver by the fans....

2. Dogs always know what's up.
3. No really, _listen_ to Ripley.
4. No holes !
I live by those and so far almost zero illusion casting space entities have trapped me. #Winning.
Finally! Riker with a beard. It really suits Jonathan Frakes. Makes him even sexier. 😍
Finally he's got something to hide.
He’s so recognizable with a beard!
"This is not a friendly twinkly light." Oh, its just about to get way too friendly with Troi.
I think a lot of fans hated Pulaski not so much because she was different, but that she was not Crusher; amuses me because it was probably why I liked her :-) I remembered her from Star Trek & LA Law, but she also felt much more like McCoy and also the Doctor from the original Pilot, The Cage; whereas Crusher never gelled with me at all, Pulasli felt right immediately. kerk
Where Silence Has Lease is my favourite season 2 episode. It's best to watch it at about 11pm, in the dark, it feels more eerie that way
One thing to note is there was a writers strike when this season started so they used old scripts from the unproduced Star Trek: Phase 2 series (not sure if that was the name) that was to feature some of the original cast members from Star Trek and new ones that made their way into Star Trek : The Motion Picture. Specifically Ilya, Decker, and the new science officer Xon. They eventual became Troi, Riker, and Data.
30:30 I like to think we go in and out of that "greater" reality when we dream or maybe even when we zone out for a moment. Makes lucid dreaming even more fascinating.
30:58 Mark! 2K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️
Notes: Another wonderful experience with you! 😊
Little did viewers back then know, that this cameo by an illusionary "Yamato" would freak out continuity observers because the hull numbers don't match when they finally do encounter the "Yamato"!"😅
Yes, a "Sherlock Holmes" story!
Im sure most people on the ship think that about little crusher
Yessss!!! I thought the end of season one was all you had watched. But you’re organized and I can watch more! Hope you enjoy it all! 😀
One of the best parts of my Sunday is watching STTNG with you! I love the excitement!!
Bonus fyi - the kid who played Troi's child is the same actor who played Kit Cloudkicker on Disney's Tailspin cartoon.
Why was Worf's first uniform red, though? Was he not already in Security answering to Tasha Yar and therefore already in Operations?
0:30 "The chair thing!" Also known as the Riker Maneuver. (In contrast to, recall the Picard Maneuver when the Ferengi gave them back the Stargazer.)
1. Riker now has the decorative, nautical beard.
2. Hell is Riker's favorite word and tends to be part of his standard outburst when he's flustered.

Jen discovering all kinds of fun things: the Riker Maneuver, Guinan, Dr. Pulaski
The first episode hits different after watching "Picard" S2 and reading Wil Wheaton's Biographie. Especially the part about Riker taking on a fatherly role for Wesley...
Red: Command
Yellow: Security and engineering
Blue: Sciences
Tng swapped red and yellow to end the Red Shirt joke from TOS. ;)
And made
Many appearences on the show over the years.
I liked "The Child" a lot. Having a live force entity become human out of curiosity, becoming Troi's child. I love the way that she bonded with her son and that he had only good intentions. Once he realized that he was a danger to the ship, he left immediately, showing that he cared.
4:50 Mark! "Look at her!" 😂😅 But we can't see her because you're blocking her!
Since Yar, previous head of security wore a gold/yellow uniforrm, when Worf took over that role he also changed to a Yellow uniform. Geordi also took on a new role as chief engineer which was indicated by a uniform change.
4:30 Mark! Oh yeah! Ahem. Her new look has arrived! 🎉 Yay! ❤
The klingon lodging of the space creature is true, there is the similar incident in the original series but it was the giant amiba in that incident.

Here we go! Riker's beard, Ten Forward, Guinan, new doc and new roles. Amazing.
In her words, "There's a black woman on TV, and she ain't no maid!"
I do have to admit 13:45 kind of makes me choke up a bit nowadays... because it really, _really_ feels like when we hear about Wil Wheaton's years on the Enterprise, Jonathan Frakes was his primary male role model.
Oh the great memories and intro of Guinan, a bar in which we all want to end up within. Movie comes to mind ;)
O'Brien as well, bonus
C3: Jonathan Frakes grew his beard in between Seasons 1 and 2, and, apparently, with Gene Roddenberry in attendance, the fans voted in favor of him keeping his beard! "Growing the Beard" is now an antonym for "Jumping the Shark"-i.e., a show gets good.
I loved the reactions from Jen, to these two episodes and it is SO great to see how TNG has upped its game, at the start of Season 2.
Another fantastic reaction, I am very happy to be on this journey with you Captain.
Hey jen! Love your new uniform! Im surprised no one noticed or said anything about the front chairs on the bridge being swivel chairs now instead of the reclined chairs in season 1. I always thought that was the most interesting change. That and pretty much the new color scheme of the whole bridge and everything in it. Lol.
"Probe it, probe it!" I can die happy now.
The Blackie started waxing poetic about how "she's your best girl...ladies are loved...blah,blah,blah..."
The oldest salt on the boat piped up like a gravelly avalanche, " BS! It's because she's full of seamen!"
Never forgot that lesson😂
Worf and La Forge changed deparmets, Worf became chief of security, and Geordy became chief of engineering. And they got promotion too!
Did you notice the changes?
There's a new Captain's chair.
The brown panels on the bridge are gone.
That leg thing is known as the Riker Maneuver he does it quite a bit over the course of the show
Picard had been a Captain before and had been thru multiple crises during that time. When Starfleet needed an experienced Captain, they called him out of retirement- and he got the Enterprise.
One might argue that each of us are perhaps just a passing entity that's just curious and wants to be human for a bit.
Okay! Let's argue! When was the choice I (or we) don't remember making? WANT = Thought and desire and act ? Ok. I change my mind on the arguing part. Just a passing imp-titty!! 😊

Jen you should watch Starman (1984), it's like a movie version of The Child episode.
It also had a following tv series as a sequel.
4:42 Mark!

It was originally written for Star Trek Phase 2, which was supposed to be the second TV series with Kirk and most of the other original crew, but was scrapped and some of the ideas turned in "The Motion Picture" while a few others turned into TNG scripts.
@jenmurrayxo the chair thing has a name in the fandom, called "the Riker maneuver" and it is indeed one of his signature moves :D
