Tiger II Tank (King Tiger) Walk-Around in Belgium

- This is an enormous Tiger II tank, also known as a "King Tiger" or "Royal Tiger" tank parked in La Gleise, Belgium. It was used in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944 - January 1945. After the battle, it was abandoned in the town square and towed to this location in the 1970s.

Got to agree with you. You just know that either Bovingdon or the OZ museum would do the right thing. This is in a more complete cosmetic state than the one at Bovingdon.

I love how it still has the impact damage on the front from other tank or anti-tank shells
If I remember right, the man at the museum said they used this tank for bazooka practice and that damage is from that. Nearly impenetrable armor in the front.

Indeed you can still see one of the AP rounds embedded in the front, I was told that the tank was been transported back to the USA but the transporter broke down and the King Tiger was just left in La Gleise. Lots of towns in the area have their own tank memorials, Panthers, Shermans,
Pratiquement comme neuf , avec ce Tigre II il ne fallait pas louper son coup , car sa puissance de feu etait redoutable et assez precise . La chance de s'en sortir indem restait assez mince pour les blindés alliés face à un monstre pareil .Belle pièce et coup de bol que l'ancien propriétaire a réussi à négocier son départ à la ferraille, une fois le secteur libéré .👍 Comme quoi avec quelques bouteilles on arrive parfois à une belle négociation .Phil 🏍️ .
To me this still has a formidable visual impact, I would not want to have seen it as an allied tanker.

Those dents are made from a Canadian built sexton manned by a Canadian crew, from 25 yards. Yes, sexton was armed with two types of antitank shells since 1943. That is a 25 pounder doing that damage. No Tiger 2 was ever penetrated frontally.

Yes! The man at the museum said they towed it from where the town parking lot is to this location in the 1970s. What a huge chore that must have been!

Has anyone ever confirmed what made the blast divots in the frontal armor? It does not appear to be tank rounds.

Well certainly AP rounds (you can still see one stuck in the front). Tanks or AT guns, who knows but probably tank rounds.

My understanding is that the Americans blew up the interior with TNT. Dunno if that means it's totally wrecked, but it must be. I would think someone would have repaired it if it were possible.
