    looks great. I'll have to either buy the racking or make my own, but I think I will also put a half barrel on top for adding additional water in an emergency (stream, lake, pool, etc) and plumb it with hard lines so I can install multiple inline filters.

    It's great that the company sent replacements. if it is leaking around the threads and not a hole in the plug itself, you could try thread tape also.

    4:16, Not sure why no one puts a 90 degree vertical in with the valve above the barrel. This would allow being able to fill the top barrel to 100% capacity. With the valve above the barrel height, it would still be able to be used to vent.
    Come out of the barrel 2", put the 90 on. Run pvc vertical with the valve installed at about the top of the barrel. Finish that off with a piece of that clear line so you can actually see the water level.
    When the water level in the clear hose is just above the top of the barrel, turn off the supply water and close the valve.

    Looks like a great system. That should get you through a "rough patch" if one should ever arise.

    I have several 55-gallon barrels divided into two separate water storage areas. One set was installed 5 years ago and the other set was installed 10 years ago. The water in neither system has been rotated since they were originally filled. Annually I have a small sample of the water tested for safety and they are just as good as the day they were filled.
    As long as you are using a treated municipal water supply to fill the barrels with, and they are stored correctly (kept sealed tight, dark, and cool) the water does not have to be changed out. Water does not go bad, there is nothing in the water that can go bad, it is just hydrogen and oxygen unless it gets contaminated.
    If you are not using a treated municipal water system to fill the tanks, then yes, you must use a conditioner in the water, and then they must be changed out every 5 years.

    Very cool man. Do you plan on adding more barrels? I like those big white square food grade bins, which hold like 500 gallons.

    Just a thought. What if you hooked up the barrels inline with the washing machine so you don't need to keep rotating the water? Might wanna use some pressure relief/regulator or accumulator tank to absorb pressure variation from water source.

    $350 just for the 2 bbl rack??? 2x4's it is... Wow! Proud of it aren't they.

      +2003Harleyguy No kidding! And it had cheap hardware and leaked too, they had to drain and replace!!! My system (Auguson Farms 50 gallon barrels and home made stands) is not as pretty, but is for ALL PRACTICAL PURPOSES just as good, and costed me FAR less than half as much... < $170 for each RACKED UP VERTICALLY 110 gallon system.

    Not planning on any more barrels. The long term plan is to have a water source and use a filtration system. I will post a video on that in the near future.

    Having prepp before for y2k. I had room for 12 40 gal barrels. As part of a prepping group (pharmacist, doctor, biologists and procurement specialist. Government entities holding large amounts of water use 03 ie ozone to maintain water quality.

      Lovely Video clip! Apologies for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Proutklarton Protecting Aqua Plan (should be on google have a look)? It is a good exclusive product for getting prepared for a mega drought without the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my buddy after many years got great success with it.

    Did you use any Teflon tape I'm putting your system together just curious

    • @OneOffization
      @OneOffization 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Teflon tape is pretty good but pvc thread compound is better. Just don't overdo it so you don't get the material into your water.

  • @heavenlyprepper4136
    @heavenlyprepper4136  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would need to feed it through a gravity system from rainwater on the roof with a hose connected to the top barrel if power and water pressure were gone. Of course, at that point there may be an easier system but I'll have to cross that bridge when I get there.

    did u add bleach or drops to keep your water?

  • @ssdd6952
    @ssdd6952 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    My guess is a little plumbers pipe tape around the threads before you screw in the nozzle would have prevented the leak. It should not effect the quality of the water sense its only around the threads. Someone let me know if I'm wrong..

  • @NOTAPOLITECANADIAN
    @NOTAPOLITECANADIAN 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    the leak must have been the bulkhead in the bung. If you can grab a couple extra incase of future failure. Especially if you put it into use in the future. Also how to fill it when your down to collecting water long after power and water pressure are a thing of the past ;)

  • @jasonartemis1637
    @jasonartemis1637 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldn't it make more sense to fill it from the top one and have the water going down into the bottom one instead of it forcing water upward?

    If no preservation additives are added then rotate every 6-12 months. If preservation additives added, up to 5 years.
