I absolutely adore my Vintage GMT. It is my fourth of five Steinhart. I have 39mm Ocean One and GMT Pepsi & 42mm Vintage GMT, GMT Coke, and OVR….I am lucky enough to be able to wear both sizes. I really enjoy all of them. I did have my local Rolex AD add a cyclops for me - it isn’t hard for those that want one. Just order from Esslinger and then have your jeweler use IR glue. He really likes Steinhart and enjoys working on all my pieces. Truly enjoyable piece
Like all Steinhart vintage models (that have the option), the "Steve McQueen" looks so much better in 39mm. I had both sizes of this model on my wrist and in hand at my local Steinhart-dealer and when you see them side by side, there really is no choice. 39mm works so much better for those vintage pieces - it just looks more authentic. I also had the "Double Red" and the OVM side by side in both sizes and all of them looked so much nicer in 39. In fact, once I had seen the 39 vintage models, I bought the smaller OVM on the spot and put my 42mm OVM up for sale on a watch-forum.

I thought this watch was too big for me and Jody confirmed it ... I didn’t wait for the 39mm , I ended up buying the Chinese made Tiger Concepts homage of the Steve McQueen and I must say I’m very pleased with it ... it’s almost a one for one of the Rolex in size and style..even the Chinese automatic GMT movement is running at +5 a day . For 180 bucks Im pretty well satisfied.
Just love watching Jody vids. So much enthusiasm; integrity and realisation that most of us may have one or two 'top' brands but, in order to have a collection, we need a champion of more affordable brands - have you ever done the Crepas brand, especially the Plongeur based on the Zenith 58?
Nice to see you giving this watch a look. I've had one for a couple of years and find it a wonderful daily wearer and great value for money. Once you get a custom to the dial layout, it's quick to read in all light conditions. While it's a large watch, I haven't found it ungainly to wear on my 6.5 " wrist. The flat design seems to always ride at the right spot on my wrist for easy reading. And with 300 meter water resistance, I find it meets my needs nicely. Keep up your good work.
Another example in my opinion of how Steinhart punches above their weight. THe Ocean One GMT Titanium I picked up early in my collecting quest is a favorite and a bit of a strap monster as well. This one would be too; I see it rocking a lighter brown vintage leather or even an ostrich strap… The style is great and although you’re talking about this one as a Rolex homage for some reason that minute track puts me in mind of the contemporary Omega Speedmaster Racing’s dial. Anyway, a cracking watch to be sure! Thanks mate!
Jody, you did it again, made me crazy to buy a watch, only to find out it isn't available anywhere !! Waaaa !! Gnomo in Singapore is taking names for a waiting list.
I went the even more budget direction and got the Seestern (Sugess) version running the NH34. For less than half the price, it was an easy decision. While i haven't handled the steinhart, the Seestern finish is unexpectedly good.
Statham Explorer >> Rolex Orlando Bloom any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I like Steinhart a lot, but just like Pagani, most of the credit goes to their photocopiers lol. Anyway, I toy with the idea of getting the Pepsi Ocean GMT every now and then, but its way beyond my usual watch budget. Excellent work, Jody. The new intro made me think I was playing something in the background.
Good review. Big fan of Steinhartwatches. Great value for the money. I’ve owned this piece for several years and never had any problems with it. Have no desire to flip it. It’s a keeper. Great example of sporty elegance.
I own a Steinhart with the blue/black bezel, its a premium diver which is not really an homage to the Rolex batman, more of their own design. It is by far my favorite watch. Steinhart is an EXCELLENT brand. Seriously good watches for the price too. Well worth a look
The Olko version of the watch is 39mm with flat crystal AND cyclops. The lume is white though. And it's sold out most of the time. I have the Gnomon version and am awaiting to get the Olko version and swap the movements (or the cases if you prefer) 😏
great review.....I'm wearing my steinhart 42mm ceramic green bezel "kermit" as i wath this review. i got this before rolex came out with theirs last september, how did steinhart know?!! for those worried about the 42mm size, many reviewers say it wears big, it really doesn't wear any bigger that any other 42mm watches in my collection
Another fab video, Jody! While I have watched every one of your videos I don’t recall if you have ever reviewed the Hemel HF13. I just received mine from a company called Long Island Watch and it is a 12 hour stainless bezel and I love this watch! But, now you have me wanting this Steinhart! My wallet wants to have a few words with you!!! Sean
Really love this homage-- especially the 39mm! In general, I love most (well done) Rolex homages. But I *hate* when the watch fools someone, at first, and then when I tell them "it's a homage," they look at me as though I'm trying to be something I'm not-- namely, wealthy enough to own a Rolex at all. That's just not my style! And yes, this happened to me several times when I owned my Invicta pro diver; enough so that I sold it.... This watch resembles a Rolex that's been out of production for a while. So I'm pretty sure, that would solve my "not really a pretender" problem, at least in the circles I frequent these days... Thanks Jody! Btw, I like the intro music-- 🖒😎
@@tonyrome655 You are correct-- which is why my every day watch is now a G-shock, and my dress watch (I almost never wear these days) is a 1950's manual wind Prisma 😏👍
Just saw this watch (the 39mm) on eBay for US $1,500. Better get it from Steinhart if you want one priced as discussed in this vid. God vid. Keep at it!
Great review Jody. I have the 39 and love it. But I agree, a flat crystal, with or without a cyclop, would have been much better. In fact, I wish brands would go to a flat crystal if they can’t manage effective A/R coating.
Just purchased two vintage steinharts from gnomon. I really do love them with the exception of the bracelets. Both of mine are 39mm cases and the same oyster style bracelet with each. The links are garbage, with awful articulation. Also, the clasp could not be any more generic. You'd think with a "one for all" clasp they could have added some pushers. But, alas, the watches are going on some drab natos. And I still love them. :) Thanks for the review!
I am fortunate enough to own one, and what a brilliant watch. My wrist is slightly under 7", and it fits fine, albeit I would have gone for a 40mm if it were made. Re the cyclops, if had one I wouldn't have bought it.
Jody, I saw a video of yours the other day in which you told that we could suggest to you some items, so here are some: Benyar no date Explorer 1, and there is a Milgauss copage too!
I’ve owned a couple Steinharts in the past and sadly the cyclops that they do put on their watches is pretty much useless. I think it’s advertised as a x1.5 magnification and I don’t think they even manages that. I’ve got 7 1/4” wrists and the 42mm options from them wears WAY too big, I even put it on a NATO to try and get the effect of the lug to lug down and it just didn’t work. The 39mm though is perfect! I only got rid of my 39mm Ocean One so I could buy a Ginault OR2 and that’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made.
I owned one years ago. Could never quite get past the "S" logo on the dial and clasp. I found the lug to lug is a tad long and awkward on these as well, and I have 7 1/2" wrists. Other than those two critiques, it was an awesome timepiece!
Don’t own a Steinhart but I was looking at a Yema Superman Worldtime GMT Coke to add to the collection and this bad boy definitely worth it at half the price. Your definitely right with how simple and well built this Steinhart is. Obviously the Yema has its own unique qualities but with in looking at this piece a little more it’s kind of grown on me over there, the Original Rolex and this one. Not a bad addition to daily watch lineup. I think Steinhart does a really good job with the watches. As for I am trying to whittle down my collection and only a few solid beaters. Just have the find the right place to unload them. I’ve said this before this watch collecting/ addiction is a tough one to break because theirs always something new to spark your interest and without the traveling it’s so easy to justify spending a grand or two on a nice piece. Thanks Jody for the review brother ! Big thanks for all you do! JD 🇨🇦
That is a bit of a stunner....with quality. And a plus that's it's not yet another Sub homage. As for homages, well nobody seems to have a problem these days with driving around in a car homage lol
These are nice! 39mm is mandatory for me. The long lug-to-lug of the 42mm model is awkward on my small wrist, but I had a 39mm OVM at one point that was just perfect fit.
You mentioned it around 6:15, that the original had the 4th hand for telling if it's AM or PM, but this is used as a GMT. Is there a watch that looks like this that uses the 4th hand as a AM/PM indicator instead of a GMT. I like the look, but have no need for a 2nd time zone. Thanks in advance Jody.
It was not a TAG but a Heuer Monaco (Ref 1133). This watch was offered to Steve by Heuer and he wears it only for the purpose of the film "Le Mans". This watch was given by McQueen to the film's chief mechanic, Haig Alltounian, at the end of the shoot. It is well known that Steve did not like this watch, he was definitevly a Rolex Submariner boy and also Hanhart 417 chrono.
Yes but only agreed to wear that Monaco because he’d never heard of Heuer and didn’t want to wear a watch like Omega that may profit off the watch. He was no particular fan of the watch and would likely be disappointed how they’ve since profited off the association
Well timed 👏🏻 Been trying to decide one of these or the Glycine Airman and Jory posted the Glycine review yesterday... Looks like this homage will be my next watch 👍🏻 Thanks Jody spot on mate. Much appreciated 😁
Thanks Jory! Always love seeing Steinhart reviews. As for Glycine, the model you want that bridges the gap is the Airman 42 (Ref. GL0066). Bought a banging GL0066 in April 2020 and have been extremely happy with it - Glycine basically invented the 4-hand GMT so the Airman 42 is more properly heritage for Glycine versus homage to the 1655.
@@jamesblonde2271 indeed... Not a generally homage fan, but out of production for 50 years and £20k+ makes the Steinhart acceptable to me (& it doesn't look like any other Rolex)
Rolex would send their watches to celebrities gratis. Which we now know was a pioneering marketing move. It would be like an obstinate McQueen to get the watch and not help Rolex out with a photo because the watch was a "gift" after all! Perhaps that's how the "wore it privately" story was given traction.
The reflections are from the surface, not from the undercoating. More AR on the underside will make virtually no difference. More AR also reduces legibility of the dial.
@@JustOneMoreWatch my understanding is that Omega coats both sides, correct? And have you seen the dial not through the crystal? Trust me, for what that Steinhart costs, you aren’t going to get high quality AR coating. More of it will look worse. I’ve used plenty of crystals with AR that I’ve had to pull and toss in the drawer because of how they look. Not all AR coating is the same. I swear.
It will be my next purchase Jody I like the 42mm , at gnomon shop free shipping with DHL I think it’s cheaper at Gnomon web site then at steinhart web site
This is a watch that I can save up for. Just for the history of the watch. We Americans love to exaggerate our history with little fiction here and there every now and then. OK maybe a lot. lol It will be my first Swiss watch when I get it! Thanks for the review. I know it will be a good buy.
Wish I missed your review on this watch. I already own four 39 mm Steinhart watches and now most likely a fifth, if, the 39 mm becomes available again at Gnomon. Too many watches, not enough watches.
I have two of these model, one of them is the older, greenish lume ( and for my surprise with wider bracelet ) and the other one is the newer, yellowish/beige lume. I contacted Steinhart before I purchased the second one, telling them I want to buy a model with ETA movement for collecting purposes. Oxana from Steinhart replied very nicely saying they are not able to tell it, the watch I will buy either will be equipped with ETA or Sellita, depend on availability, since they have no record trough manufacturing process which one the watch will get. It sounds a bit off for me, considering it is about $100-$140 differnces in price of the bare movements on the market so would be nice to know what the buyers pay for. I am pretty sure they reserving their ETA movements for watches either "premium" level or watches with display case back. I responded them it would be nice to know, I even willing to pay more for a ETA version, no problem. They said not possible. So I bought a "new" one on ebay instead of directly from Steinhart and guess what is inside: Sellita. :)) Long story short: if Steinhart putting in mostly Sellita movement, would be more fair to say this model equipped with Sellita, instead of saying on warranty card either ETA or Sellita. In this case me as a buyer would consider myself lucky having "accidentally" an ETA instead of considering myself unlucky getting 99% the Sellita / most probably by default.. /
I got my Explorer 2 in 1976 and wore it daily until 1989 when I sold it for $450 as I was out of work and needed $. It was not considered one of Rolex’s more sought after models. I can’t believe the current price and of course it makes me sick every time I think of selling it.
Indeed they are! I'll give it a miss though, having just reviewed this one. Besides, those cheap Chinese GMT movements are the weak point. And they are using Mercedes hands. Doh!
@@JustOneMoreWatch I wish more of the chinese brands stepped up and started selling watches at the £400-£500 range with proper swiss movements . I mean if Cronos can make a submariner thats pretty close in quality to the Rolex for £200 (in terms of finishing) imagine what they could do for £500.
@@JustOneMoreWatch Why do you say the Chinese GMT movements are the week point? I have used many DG movements that are reliable & keep great time over many years of use. In fact most of the Chinese movements I have bought have been great if not fantastic. I just don’t get why everyone raves about Seiko NH35’s & Swiss movements if these cheap Chinese movements keep great time & from my point of view are reliable.

I have a 39mm Aachen boutique version of this lovely watch with C3 lume, fantastic value.
Order in on their web side from Germany! Will take 1 week delivery😁
Love my Steinhart OVM, don’t really travel outside of the East Coast so a GMT for me is not on my radar. Nice look Jody👍
I went the even more budget direction and got the Seestern (Sugess) version running the NH34. For less than half the price, it was an easy decision. While i haven't handled the steinhart, the Seestern finish is unexpectedly good.
I have two Steinharts .. and Ocean One GMT and a Military 47 blue … both are truly amazing for the price.
I love this watch especially in the 39 mm size.
With seestern having this model too, it will be very interesting to compare these 2 !!
I just got my first Steinhart, wow its crazy good for the cost.
Nice, there are a few too many indices but correct decision to drop the cyclops. 👍
Jody you've gotta be a mind reader. I was looking at this one for the past 6 months and on fence thanks for covering it. Big thanks for William
Good review. Big fan of Steinhartwatches. Great value for the money. I’ve owned this piece for several years and never had any problems with it. Have no desire to flip it. It’s a keeper. Great example of sporty elegance.
Good to see you back 👍🏴🏴🏴
This is the way to do homages, simplicity is always the way...
I own a Steinhart with the blue/black bezel, its a premium diver which is not really an homage to the Rolex batman, more of their own design. It is by far my favorite watch.
Steinhart is an EXCELLENT brand. Seriously good watches for the price too. Well worth a look
Jody- thanks for the info. I always enjoy your videos. Keep it up.
Thanks for watching the channel Luke!
@@JustOneMoreWatch why do I feel like I’m on the Fury Road and Immortan Joe just looked at me?! Kidding. Thanks again.
Sean
Hey Sean! Hemel incoming in September!
There´s actually a pagani design version of this steve mcqueen on Aliexpress!!
It's not being about being what you are not, it's about enjoying what you like. If someone does not understand, do not even attempt to explain.
Her it is 10 months later and people may now mistakenly think to a Tudor. 😁
@@tonyrome655 You are correct-- which is why my every day watch is now a G-shock, and my dress watch (I almost never wear these days) is a 1950's manual wind Prisma
😏👍
Just saw this watch (the 39mm) on eBay for US $1,500. Better get it from Steinhart if you want one priced as discussed in this vid. God vid. Keep at it!
The funny thing is that this looks better than the Rolex one. 🙂
Bought 7 Steinharts last 10 months! This one is by far the coolest imo!
I've only made it to three... But this one will soon be my fourth Steinhart!
Great review.
I see no way I will be able to resist buying that. Gorgeous black dial diver and true to the original.
I noticed the snappy new music in intro it did not go unnoticed FYI. You rock buddy!
I have an older version, before the vintage lume. I've had it 6 years without issue, but the lugs are too long for taste.
Just picked up a 39mm version, which is soo much more wearable. Mine has the white indices, which I prefer, but unfortunately has a cyclops
Great review. I've have the earlier version of this watch, without the old radium hashes. I reviewed it on the Watch-u-seek forum back in 2011.
Great video jody some models now available in 904L S/ steel happy days 😀❤👊
Just the one watch I was wondering about and you in the same time sharing your review of it, fantastic Jody!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thanks for sharing!🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻
I love Steinhart watches I have two already. This one looks pretty interesting I’m thinking of ordering this one as well! Thanks for the video
Pagani just made an homage of this vintage model but I think it is 42mm instead of 39mm, saw it on ali.
JD 🇨🇦
Great video as always Jody! I just received mine today and the quality is amazing. Your review and specs were key in my decision.
That is a bit of a stunner....with quality. And a plus that's it's not yet another Sub homage. As for homages, well nobody seems to have a problem these days with driving around in a car homage lol
another Steinhart watch worthy of my money
Ahh...another GMT...thanks!! I'm dive watch'd out. Really like this one.
These are nice! 39mm is mandatory for me. The long lug-to-lug of the 42mm model is awkward on my small wrist, but I had a 39mm OVM at one point that was just perfect fit.
Grear review. I own a Steinhart GMT 39. I think it's about time Steinhart improves that clasp. Make it a push button.
I bought it! I just bought the jubilee that fits it...its def a keeper
Pagani just launched a similar one! Get your hands on one jody!
Just recognized that this beauty is now also offered by good old friend Mr. Pagani, but unfortunetly also in 42mm.
Never heard of Steve wearing a Rolex.
To me, he's a TAG Monaco man.
But it's a really cool watch anyway 👍
He never owned a Tag, he famously owned a 5512 then a 5513 Rolex Submariner plus another couple of watches, but never a 1655 Explorer!!
@@jonathanobrien1058 He loved those Subbies!
Ok, I understand, thanks for the facts, always fun to hear new.👍
The small square clock is marketed hard as Steve M.
Looks like this homage will be my next watch 👍🏻
Thanks Jody spot on mate. Much appreciated 😁
The Airmans an ugly spud but it's not a homage.....
@@ianmichelino9697 excellent, thanks for your comment 👍🏻
@@stevefox8605 Gotcha, if its a particular fave of yours....
Pagani design just released one as well, 42mm but has a cyclops. Found it on Pagani design AliExpress-official store
Makes me wonder exactly how influential Steve McQueen was. I wasn't there
Steiny do have two McQueen Expy2 models in 39mm as well, with or without cyclop
Rolex would send their watches to celebrities gratis. Which we now know was a pioneering marketing move. It would be like an obstinate McQueen to get the watch and not help Rolex out with a photo because the watch was a "gift" after all! Perhaps that's how the "wore it privately" story was given traction.
Casio mtp1302
is also a very good Rolex homage
you are gonna love it
I am afraid to watch it ''they'' might lock me off You Tube channel :) Again welcome back Jody. And thanks for another exelante review.
Ok, now Steinhart is on my list too Thx Jody
Love the new intro Jody and as usual your videos are awesome, informative and entertaining. Keep up the great work!
The reflections are from the surface, not from the undercoating. More AR on the underside will make virtually no difference. More AR also reduces legibility of the dial.
I'm not sure about that Steven. My Omega dial looks stunning because of the sheer volume of AR.
Just want to do a quick experiment: Wristwatch. What image went through your head? Mine is the rolex submariner then the f91w.
Wish I missed your review on this watch. I already own four 39 mm Steinhart watches and now most likely a fifth, if, the 39 mm becomes available again at Gnomon. Too many watches, not enough watches.
I have a Steinhart Military 42. Not sure I would pay 10x more to have a brand trench watch, if I cold afford it, frankly. Quite happy with mine
Just refreshing to listen to ReMix of the intro 😎
Pagani Design just came out with this one too.
Long story short: if Steinhart putting in mostly Sellita movement, would be more fair to say this model equipped with Sellita, instead of saying on warranty card either ETA or Sellita.
I can’t believe the current price and of course it makes me sick
every time I think of selling it.
Messaged pagani design, they're coming out with one of these soon
Indeed they are! I'll give it a miss though, having just reviewed this one. Besides, those cheap Chinese GMT movements are the weak point. And they are using Mercedes hands. Doh!
@@JustOneMoreWatch I wish more of the chinese brands stepped up and started selling watches at the £400-£500 range with proper swiss movements . I mean if Cronos can make a submariner thats pretty close in quality to the Rolex for £200 (in terms of finishing) imagine what they could do for £500.
I hope they make the sub 40mm version then
@@JustOneMoreWatch Why do you say the Chinese GMT movements are the week point? I have used many DG movements that are reliable & keep great time over many years of use. In fact most of the Chinese movements I have bought have been great if not fantastic. I just don’t get why everyone raves about Seiko NH35’s & Swiss movements if these cheap Chinese movements keep great time & from my point of view are reliable.
@@75dt21 it's more about them being very popular and very well known. Also easy to replace. And it's to do with Chinese QC. They can be hit or miss
Love the superluminova t-shirt
