I was watching this, when my 7 year old son, Heath, came in from taking apart a scrap car. Yes you read that right, he was in the backyard disassembling an Infiniti i30, Why, because he loves to do it. He walked in the house,"to take a break," and saw your niece working on the engine. He was fascinated by it. He got all excited when he saw the Dewalt impact and said it was just like mine. He has my old Porter Cable. It is great to see you teaching the younger generation about cars.
We had a 1972 Bronco when we had a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Dealership. We took it on so many Jeep Tracks growing up with it. Loved it because it would come out of washes so easy while others would drag their back ends and get hung up. Ours had a 302.
Wow. That engine must have really been through the ringer. Bummer. But you should be able to still get a decent runner between the three. Gosh how your niece has grown! She's such a cutie pie! And Finley is looking great! Always enjoy seeing them both. You have some fantastic builds going on and am glad to see a post from y'all. The Power Tour should be awesome!
You and your niece working together was adorable, she a great little helper. She might be fixing her boyfriends cars for them someday...haha Can’t wait for Garfield project, first video I watched of yours was picking it up in Iowa!
Such a bummer that the gt40 heads were trash. The E7TE heads from the Fox aren't bad though....not GREAT, but they were the "truck" head that Ford pulled from the parts bin in the 80's for the Mustang to pump up some power after 1986. That Fox short block is a real upgrade from the Exploder block though. TRW forged rods and pistons from the factory and pretty darned tough up to about 450 HP. The 87-88 speed density cam is a little more aggressive than the later MAF cam and with a set of the Crane 1.7 ratio roller rockers will make some solid TQ. Loving it.
That 302 with stock parts is perfect for the Bronco. I had 69 Bronco that I put a complete factory 5.0 out of 89 Mustang in with a 750 Holly Carb, and it was awesome! Plenty of power.
The explorer 302 was the best 302 made aside from the cam and ignition system. I have one in my mustang and it made 292whp with a few simple mods through a tko.
Emily... Nice job.... Love the stuff you guys are doing. Looking forward to the Garfield project.... the 350 bolt on stuff along with that gorgeous new instrument panel. Love watching you rip into those engines! Have fun and Good Luck! Weav
I LOVE that you are showing your daughter how to work on mechanicals. Hell I'm having trouble getting a simple belt on my riding mower while you and your 7 year old daughter are rocking a V8 motor like a boss. 👍
What? Don't ditz a Ford. Like anything out there, build it and they will...love it. My hubby has built almost anything. When in doubt..don't. READ about it. We can't stress enough about reading. That 49 buick 8 that we bought and hailed it back to our neck of the woods is turning out great. The entire drive train and susp. brakes ended in the scrap. We just received the engine and trans combo. 572 gm crate and 4l80hd Trans 12 bolt rear Baer brakes, Hotchkis susp waiting to receive. Hubby is building the roll cage. Live 💘 🔧 😃
Emily, as much as I enjoy learning about mechanical work, I find I'm actually more interested in looking at you. You're very pretty, and if that's your hubby, he's done well. Congrats to both of you!!!!!!!
You can buy a cheap bore scope for under 30 buck's that hooks up to you phone's camera. Great for checking out used motors saved me a few times . Also good for finding droped nut's /tools.
There's still a few getting about here in australia where roxy came from . Theres even a fb buy sell an swap page here for them . Nice ute's but too small inside for me :-( , isuzu ute panels were same as these too .
I had a main knock in a Ford 4 - cyl. Mercury as a broke teen. Grandpa said; "Take the main cap off, take this piece of shoe leather, soak in oil and stick in there on top of the bearing." I did - THANK YOU grandpa! Ran quietly for years!
I would at least put new rings and bearings, oil seals, oil pump, timing chain+ gear set, cam+ lifters. If you got the heads and pan off, go for it. revved up yooper
know ya know how we feel, young lady, when under a car, gettin dripped on, tryin to remove sompin we never seen B4. I use nother job ta clear my head. No hubby to come home'n C lacka progress. Presto, the middle of some routine (break or other) job the idea hits: "I wonder if that plate...?" Keep upda good wrk. Had my bronk since '83 (a 70/77 mash up since '85). I'm in till the end...
Emily, you are so much fun to watch... When that cover came off and you found those "sneaky" little bolts underneath, I'm almost certain I could hear you talking to it. Your mouth never moved but your eyes are sooooo expressive!!!! ;^)
I'm kinda surprised no one mentioned anything about the lack of safety glasses on the little one. Give her some glasses and let her hang out in the shop more. It was great seeing her again.
Don't fell bad about getting tricked on the bolts in that ford 5.0l intake. Being a GM oriented person, we once got an earlier 5.0L engine in the shop. I noticed that engine had a set of aftermarket roller rockers and decided to grab them, and sell them on ebay. It took me a while to figure out that the bolts were under the plate on the top half of the intake.
Holy crap! You weren't lying about engine drama hahaha that's too bad. Still seems like you guys are having fun though! No wrenches through the windows yet ;)
I think I love you. I love your projects and cars. But that music at the beginning gave me aids Mama. And I’ve done that SAME thing on a Ford intake!!
