Awesome video mate, love the tear-down showing all the parts splayed out. Very helpful! You helped me fix my driver - it had a random, single, ball bearing loose inside that jammed the gears. Not sure where it came from… but so far it works again and I am happy!

My LED also stopped after three years use. The drivetrain teardown was sweet. Got me comparing sintered vs. cast vs. forged in my mind!

it's only the LED that doesn't work right? why pay so much for that

I would of duct tape a little cheap autozone light to the side. Or have a weaver mount put on then have a gun light put on maybe a laser??? HELL YA!!!!

Good stuff! I especially liked the visual of laying out how the drivetrain stacks up.

I realize it is pretty randomly asking but do anyone know of a good place to stream newly released tv shows online ?

This is an EXCELLENT instructional video. I need assistance with reassembling my Dewalt DC988. Might there be one for this?

      Thanks!
Unfortunately my drill is a DCD970, so it will be a little different (and doesn't need a rebuild yet..)
Google does have exploded diagrams if you do an image search though, which might help.

Is the spline output shaft gear thing supposed to come off? Mine is not stuck on. It comes off. The problem I’m having is it’s not spinning.

I have a 18v drill and you can hear the motor turn but the chuck doesn't want to move?? The chuck just will turn if i turn it by hand.

Sounds like busted gears or something sheared inside.
Have you opened it up to see inside?

Are you from America or Europe? Because in Europe Dewalt doesnt advertise their products as 20v, just 18v, So your drill could be new or old, but 18v in american means it old, before 2012ish. so that means the brushes are probably all crapped out, or so.ething else is wrong

I did desolder some connections. I can't remember exactly now though as it was a long time ago.

@@NearFarMedia thank you nefm , my damn switch had many soldering connections, to get to into the core i really had to do some bad desoldering and soldered them again for reconnection after cleaning , half an hour later i ll make a trial .. impossible to work again i quess : ) i hope i can arrange a new cheap switch for the tool .

Wait how did you get the motor apart? You skipped over that part.

I unscrewed all the screws holding the case closed, then took the parts out.

The grey stuff I put on the heatsink?
It's just thermal paste, like what is used on a computer CPU to help transfer the heat from the transistor to the heat sink so it doesn't overheat.

Nice job. But it didn't do anything to fix how completely useless a "feature" those little LEDs are to begin with.

Yeah, the drill/driver bits always cast a shadow right where you want to look, but I use them as a convenient torch when drilling in a dark spot as the light can be activated with a light pull on the trigger just before the drill starts rotating.
