    Kendrick’s music is deep this song is more than what it seems and more than just that little movie

    • @MelvinTaylorII
      @MelvinTaylorII  ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely deeper than what it seems but you ain’t gotta do the movie like that lol. That movie was amazing for what it did and still does represent. I’m glad they were paired with each other because it made the song and movie stronger. You FELT EVERYTHING when the movie ended and this song dropped. I still remember sitting in the theater and being emotional from how well done the entire experience was. All respect to you tho 🙏🏾

    The first part seemed a little demonic, but I could be culturally ignorant

    • @yusei151
      @yusei151 6 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      I could understand that but definitely culturally ignorant. One way that the opening could be interpreted is that Kendrick is riding his boat on a wave of black lives lost in the Atlantic slave trade. They are guiding him back to Africa as you can kind of piece the rest of the video from when he arrives to the mother land and is being embraced by her and its children leading us to the manifestation and stars of Africa that SZA portrays. By the end Kendrick embraces the the heritage and its goddesses come to meet him in their tomb. Its a unbelievably powerful video that parallels the movie in so many ways.

    • @ZeekStreet
      @ZeekStreet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yusei151 well spoken, I knew it was something traditional, but the sceptic altered the view a little. Thanks man I have clarity now🖒

    • @ZeekStreet
      @ZeekStreet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Desiree Simmons oh ok, its just at a distance the boat floating, seems so ominous. Idk maybe it's the color scheme at the time

    • @hawkzulu5671
      @hawkzulu5671 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly yusei .. and for that 400 years of captivity, he spits 40 seconds of lyrics and absolutely BEHEADS the people responsible .. he's home and in his long lost familys embrace.. but still damaged and traumatized ..now his people can begin his healing and his restoration

      Also the black panthers represented the sprites of leaders past. All of those sticks he walked past with the panthers are most likely grave markers for all the leaders that were killed/died in the past.
