I've attempted to be vegan so many times. But whenever I craved something other than fruit or salad and wanted a cooking recipe, I'd search youtube the ingredients for all the recipes were all these weird expensive things that I wouldn't otherwise buy except for the recipe alone and most of the things weren't available where I live (Jamaica) and they all had tons of oil which I try to avoid .. was so sick and tired of that and kept going back to unhealthy eating. You make recipes SO simple with simple ingredients that anyone can get and I'm confident I can stay vegan this time! I've watched all your videos back to back for like 4 hours! lol. I'm so so happy I found your channel.. you've earned yourself a new subscriber, please don't ever stop making videos or else I don't know what i'd do! The burgers looked so great, i'm gonna try them on my dad today. Could you do a kale and white bean soup sometime in the future?
Wow Kimberley, I love your feedback. This is exactly why I have this channel and I am so glad it is helping you :-) I'm proud that you are on this journey with me and I will definitely keep doing recipes! I will add your soup request to my to do list... a yummy combination!!! xxx
Kimberley Foster Agree 100% ...and I'm vegan 5 years. However I am looking for ways to step outside if my typical 3 meals. I like to keep things simple so finding a person with simple ingredients and easy to do task fills me with joy!!
well they dont know what they are missing i do live in the states if there is ever anything you want or are looking for just say the word i woud be happy to try and find it for you i have a spice market pretty close and other items at my disposal
for example i saw a wonders copper grinder just the other day it was beaten and burnished and made a wonderful artistic and funtion piece would look great with pink hemilan sea salt in it lol
This is the second recipe of yours I've made today and by far the BEST! I have been searching high and low for an edible vegan burger and I found it. I've tried many recipes and they all fell short. This burger is loaded with flavor and my search for a tasty vegan burger I can share with my family is over! Thanks so much for your recipes Anya, please keep your delicious creations coming!
From Canada, great comment Kimberley. Couldn't agree more. I love Anja's recipes -- especially this one for burgers. I have seen so many meatless burger recipes that have been so-so, but this one I am gonna try very soon. Great job, as usual Anja.
Yummmmm!! I just now made these and had to come back and tell everyone how GOOD these are and easy!!! Thanks so much for all the hard work you do to bring us such great recipes! :)
My fiance and I have been vegan for a few months now but we also have a serious binge eating problem. Every 4-6 days we crack and usually end up eating every type of vegan junk food that we can get our hands on. Yesterday our cravings really kicked in, but instead of buying junk, I asked my partner if we could make some wholefood burgers together with these patties and your garlic aioli recipe. Can I just say THANK YOU SO MUCH. It is so rare that when we actually follow vegan recipes, that they turn out this good. These patties were so perfectly meaty (the mushrooms make it so nice) and hearty that by the time we had finished eating, we were so happy and satisfied that we didn't want or need to eat anything else. My fiance is a super picky eater, but now he will try literally anything as long as it comes from one of your recipes! Thank you so much, you are literally a vegan wizard, I don't know how you do it, but everyone of your recipes is cheap, easy, genius and delicious!
Awww thank you so much for your lovely comment. I really appreciate it. Yes, I have loads of recipes on here and on my website. I also have a range of cookbooks with more recipes that are not on here :-) Plus, I have a Plant Powered Mastery course with a 21 day meal plan that would work well for you from what you are saying. You can check it out at: cooking-with-plants.teachable.com/p/plant-powered-mastery
I just made these hamburgers for dinner today and they were delicious! All 5 of us loved them. The only change I'll make next time is cook them 15 and 15 minutes instead of 15 and 10. They will be less juicy but easier to eat on a bun with lots of stuff. THANK YOU for sharing the recipe. It's brilliant.
looks good! I could be convinced to try eating a vegan burger about now! I have been surprised by the flavor, texture & chew. oats really help with that I understand, THANKS!
Yes!!!! I use brown lentils for beef burgers too. I love the way it taste. And the oats give it texture for me. Something about the brown lentils remind me of beef. I've never tried them in the oven though. Thanks for that.
I have just made these, and they are absolutely gorgeous. I'm thinking of making these into like a meat loaf on Sunday. I am wondering if tinned black beans would also work well. Thank you yet again....
Hi thanks for uploading.. been trying to read some of the comments to see if I could find the answer.. but couldn't.. can i make batches in advance and freeze them? and if I want to use them for the bbq do I need to precook them in the oven first? thanks
+Thomas Pedersen I haven't tried freezing them but once baked they should be fine to freeze. As for BBQ, bake first so they are firm and hold together, otherwise it will be a sticky mess.
that looks delicious! I want to use black beans instead. For the flour, what other type can I use instead tapioca? Love your recipe! !! they are so easy to make ♡
i made these and they were very yummy! used arrowroot instead of tapioca, oregano instead of sage, and added some walnuts and rice to the mixture after blending for texture :)
Really enjoy watching. Have just purchased both your books....waiting for them to arrive! :) Just wanted to ask why you use onion and garlic powder and dried herbs opposed to fresh? Is it just preference ?? Thank you for posting and being so lovely, you and your partner make changing habits easier.
plutoplatters for you maybe. But I was recommended from my doctor to cut out all animal products because of my health. I've gone from only being able to take a shit once every two weeks to being able to shit every day.
saved my day. i'm making these for the week end BBQ. Will freeze first to make them extra crispy. Carnivore friends will be jealous. You rock Anja love your videos and your style. Aussie in Netherlands.
+Welt Im Einklang Sorry to hear it was too salty for you. Just adjust next time to your personal taste. Were your lentils in salt? Maybe that made it extra salty?? Glad you liked them. Alles gute x
Thanks so much for what looks like another yummy recipe. I'm going to try them tomorrow however I have everything except the tapioca four, could I substitute with plain flour and if so still use 2 tbs?
Hi again Anya (CookingWithPlants ). Just curious, what model food processor are you using? My little el cheapo model doesn't do a very good job and I'm thinking about getting a new one.
I thought so. I 'm getting the BFP800XL Sous Chef. BTW, I am really enjoying learning to cook! I was diagnosed with a pretty serious illness last and have adopted a plant-based diet. Your channel has been a Godsend. Can't tell you how much I appreciate it!
porcelaincougar Thank you so much. I appreciate the encouragement :-) I could tell you how much a juicing/blending/vegan diet has helped me over the past 6 weeks but I'd be here all night :-)
I love watching your videos :D everything you make looks amazing.. I did make the tomato soup it was so good thank you. Could you please make a video on how to make bread?
Hi Anja, I love your channel! You always make me sooooo hungry when I watch your vids:D I was wondering if I could make this with black beans instead of lentils?? Would it change the flavor too much?? Thank you so much for sharing your talent and delicious recipes with us!! xoxoxo
Yumm. This looks really simple and yummy! I have all the ingredients so i will try it soon! Thank you for sharing :) Is that home made mayo? Can you do a video on it some time ?
+CookingWithPlants I'm glad Velinica asked. I want to make these and thought, I'll have to go out and get some tapioca flour. I have arrowroot already here at home though, woot!
This recipe looks really yummy! I don't have any canned lentils though. Can I prepare the burgers with dried lentils? And if so, how long should I boil them? And how much should they weigh afther I drain them? Thank you in advance!
Hi Anja - I've just bought 3 of your cookbooks (2 for me & 1 for my nephew) & I can't wait for them to arrive; I love your recipes. (I should mention - and it might just be me - but I did find it a bit hard to navigate the shop on your website: info was in small, grey print & was hard to read and product descriptions not easy to access because 'details' was tiny. Also, I had to really poke around the website to find if there even were hard copy cookbooks available for purchase.) 'Hope this feedback helps.
Hi Anja, thank you for this amazing recipe. One question: Do you know if these burgers can be used for bbq or are they too soft to fit? Would they if I froze them first?
Hi Anja :) Are these supposed to cook in the middle? My outside were crusty but the inside a bit mushy (which didn't bother me). And I cooked slightly over your recommended time. They were delicious! :) Thank you! :)
Oh my, why do I watch your videos whilst hungry??? Jeez I only wanted to distract myself while my food was cooking. Drooling big time! I will try for sure. Thanks for your time and effort in making these videos! Sun, Sand & Sea from The Bahamas.
We just made these and they were absolutely yummy! Didn't follow the recipe exactly cos I didn't have all the spices but it was still great! Really enjoyed my dinner and now I'm stuffed, haha! Thanks so much!
I know this is a stupid question... but I've never had lentils before. I could not find them in a can, so I bought the bagged ones. Should I just cook them and measure 400g after I cook them? I don't have a scale, so is about 2 cups good? Thanks!
***** Yes, you can cook them. Just make sure you get the green or brown ones. The yellow or orange ones won't work. You could also use a can of kidney beans if that's easier. It will taste a little bit different but still good :-)
Thanks so much for this recipe. I made it last night for Hubby and me. My husband likes his meat but was really impressed that lentils could actually have a meaty flavour. We both really enjoyed the burgers and will be making them again. Thanks for helping us in our journey to transition to a more plant based diet. ;o)
+Ankita Priya I don't use oil as it is empty calories and not good for the heart (I used to have heart issues). Yes, mashed potato would taste awesome in the patty :-)
Ok, I tried these today and they are great! I usually don't like lentil burgers but l thought I'd give these a go, love mushies! Love the flavours. I've been cooking since 4.30am. Couldn't sleep, lol. :-)
I would love a really good recipe for vegan sausages that is nut , soy and gluten free with no sunflower or pumpkin seeds either please . Sorry to make things difficult , but you can see my difficulty in finding a wide variety of suitable recipes for our needs .I really love how simple and easy most of your recipes are .And I have not had a failure yet , which is a big plus . Thankyou .
Anja... I want to make your burgers TODAY! :) Can you please tell me how many cups of cooked lentils is equal to a 400 gram tin of lentils? Thank you!! Love love love your channel!!
These look delicious! The best part is when you're eating it. Made me so hungry.
lol I'm getting hungry again just replying to your comment :-)

Tenuja, coming from you that is an extremely good compliment. Anja and you have the best ideas, tips, recipes, and LOVE!
I have tried numerous versions of veggie burgers, but until I tried this one none were really satisfying to me. Yours has three great qualities:
1) It is truly yummy!
2) It remains moist inside, not becoming a sawdust burger when you cook it.
3) It holds its shape, and doesn’t crumble apart the second you touch it.
Thanks Anya!

Yes I feel the same! In Peru is hard to find vegan supplies =[ but your recipes are so easy and tasty!!

+IamAlisaa You can cook your own but just make sure they are not too soft and wet.
looks good! I could be convinced to try eating a vegan burger about now! I have been surprised by the flavor, texture & chew. oats really help with that I understand, THANKS!
+Aminada DNIEMBE Awesome! If prepared the right way, vegan food tastes out of this world! So much flavor and variety :-) Glad you like it.
Yes!!!! I use brown lentils for beef burgers too. I love the way it taste. And the oats give it texture for me. Something about the brown lentils remind me of beef.
I've never tried them in the oven though. Thanks for that.
+2011Ohmygoodness Glad you like them. The oven makes them super tasty!

Hi thanks for uploading.. been trying to read some of the comments to see if I could find the answer.. but couldn't.. can i make batches in advance and freeze them?

+Thomas Pedersen I haven't tried freezing them but once baked they should be fine to freeze. As for BBQ, bake first so they are firm and hold together, otherwise it will be a sticky mess.
thanks in case you are curious, they can be frozen. and they are very nice reheated on the pan later, gives them a nice fried burger "feel"
Thomas Pedersen Great to know :-) Thank you x
Thomas Pedersen Did you thaw them out first or straight from freezer to grill?
I was a bit impatient (or forgot to take them out earlier) so took them directly from the freezer to the grill..
Love the way you react when you're eating the finished dish, lol! Thanks for sharing!
+Walter Buller I do love my food :-) I love cooking, but eating is even better!!
Those burgers do look great! What do you call that paper that you used to cook it on? And can you obtain it at any grocery store?
Non stick parchment (baking) paper. I'm in Australia and it is available at any convenience or grocery store.
CookingWithPlants, It should be easy to find then I guess. I think my girlfriend used to use it for something.
Gosh I just love your recipes!! If I made these and wanted to freeze them would I do so before or after baking them? Thanks again!
I would bake them first.
Hi Love your recipes. Can you please tell me the make of your blender.I wish to upgrade my old one to larger size, preferably same s yours thanks
Sunbeam café series for blender and Breville for processor
Great looking burgers! Will be making them, yum!
Excellent :-) Enjoy!
that looks delicious! I want to use black beans instead. For the flour, what other type can I use instead tapioca? Love your recipe! !! they are so easy to make ♡
+Gabriela Bustos Yes, it's great with black beans. You can use any flour you like :-)
Mmm sounds delicious. I actually made them yesterday and they are so good. There are so many ingredients we can use...thanks for the ideas!

Thank you for posting and being so lovely, you and your partner make changing habits easier.
+Dimy Ssg I use dried for convenience and in some things it tastes milder.
Is there something I can use instead of mushrooms?
Amber-Rose Harris You could try some roasted eggplant. Not sure if it would hold as well though
CookingWithPlants I know some people use sweet potato so I could try that too , thank you ☺
Amber-Rose Harris Hamburger works good !
plutoplatters for you maybe. But I was recommended from my doctor to cut out all animal products because of my health. I've gone from only being able to take a shit once every two weeks to being able to shit every day.
+Amber-Rose Harris Or beans! :)
saved my day. i'm making these for the week end BBQ. Will freeze first to make them extra crispy. Carnivore friends will be jealous. You rock Anja love your videos and your style. Aussie in Netherlands.
Great video, what is the temperture you used for baking the burgers?
200 degrees Celsius or 400 degrees Fahrenheit :-)
CookingWithPlants Thanks:)
Over five years ago and still looks scrumptious!
does corn starch help to hold it together? what am getting at is to know if its important to add corn starch at all.
smilechynwa It helps to hold it together and also adds to the texture a little bit.
Very impressed with all your recipes!! This one looks great! And I forgot all about the beetroots on burgers thing - so thanks for reminder !
hi anja, i tried this on saturday and found it too salty, ansonsten superyummy! i´ll make it again and again and again...
+Welt Im Einklang Sorry to hear it was too salty for you. Just adjust next time to your personal taste. Were your lentils in salt? Maybe that made it extra salty?? Glad you liked them. Alles gute x
This looks so delicious. I have to try it. Thank you for this recipe :) greetings from Germany
Enjoy!!!
Thanks for giving me another great recipe. Can’t wait to try this.
Is there another herb I could use for the Sage? I don't like the taste of sage.
The recipe looks and sounds interesting.
+Marcia Spencer You can use whatever herbs you like.
+CookingWithPlants can you recommend a herb
Marcia Spencer parsley, rosemary, thyme, marjoram etc
+Marcia Spencer Thank You so much
Thanks so much for what looks like another yummy recipe. I'm going to try them tomorrow however I have everything except the tapioca four, could I substitute with plain flour and if so still use 2 tbs?
Try corn starch or arrowroot flour if you have it :-)
CookingWithPlants Thank you I have corn starch :)
What can I say........amazing, tasty and so very easy to make. You must try these.
So glad you like them as much as I do :-)
The burgers were absolutely lovely- thank you. Love your channel. XO from Austria
tina k Glad you like them :-)
Hi again Anya (CookingWithPlants ). Just curious, what model food processor are you using? My little el cheapo model doesn't do a very good job and I'm thinking about getting a new one.
Darryl Price I have a breville.
I thought so. I 'm getting the BFP800XL Sous Chef. BTW, I am really enjoying learning to cook! I was diagnosed with a pretty serious illness last and have adopted a plant-based diet. Your channel has been a Godsend. Can't tell you how much I appreciate it!
So glad my recipes are helping you Darryl :-) If there is a specific recipe you would like to see made plant based, please let me know.
Darryl, so glad you made the switch to veggies!
Cheers to you and your health! :)
porcelaincougar Thank you so much. I appreciate the encouragement :-) I could tell you how much a juicing/blending/vegan diet has helped me over the past 6 weeks but I'd be here all night :-)

Hi Anja, I love your channel! You always make me sooooo hungry when I watch your vids:D I was wondering if I could make this with black beans instead of lentils?? Would it change the flavor too much?? Thank you so much for sharing your talent and delicious recipes with us!! xoxoxo
+Gracist2 Thank you for your lovely feedback :-) Black beans work really well in this too. Enjoy.
CookingWithPlants Thank you so much for the fast reply!! This is going to be delish!! :D

+Paula R. Thank you :-) x
Can you please suggest substitute for mushroom ? I don’t like them. Thanks . Love all your videos.
A mixture of black beans and cooked eggplant might be good :-)
Can I substitute the tapioca flour with corn starch/corn flour? :)
Velinica Yes, or arrowroot :-)
+CookingWithPlants I'm glad Velinica asked. I want to make these and thought, I'll have to go out and get some tapioca flour. I have arrowroot already here at home though, woot!
Can I use a Kitchen Aid Professional Stand Mixer with all of the attachments and/or a small handy chopper? I don't have a blender or food processor.
+breebrat56 As long as it can grind everything small, it should be fine to use :-)
This recipe looks really yummy! I don't have any canned lentils though. Can I prepare the burgers with dried lentils? And if so, how long should I boil them? And how much should they weigh afther I drain them? Thank you in advance!
I guess that is possible! Just cook them as usual and add 400g (as much as in the tin she used) :)
Hi Anja - I've just bought 3 of your cookbooks (2 for me & 1 for my nephew) & I can't wait for them to arrive; I love your recipes. Thank you for your feedback. I really appreciate that and will look into upgrading my site as soon as I can.
This burger looks great, I'm going to make it this weekend for my family. I love that it's not fried as well :)
Fantastic!!! Enjoy :-)
Hi Anja, thank you for this amazing recipe. One question: Do you know if these burgers can be used for bbq or are they too soft to fit? Would they if I froze them first?
+Crisalsera I'm not sure how they would go on a BBQ because I don't cook with oil. I presume they will stick. You would need to test it.
I want to cook like you one day 😄 you're so inspiring!
+Jason Castillo Thanks ... you will x
She speaks so nice and calm
Hi Anja :) Are these supposed to cook in the middle? My outside were crusty but the inside a bit mushy (which didn't bother me). And I cooked slightly over your recommended time. They were delicious! :) Thank you! :)
+Michael Lebrun If you want a firmer center, just lower the heat and cook for a bit longer. They should be fairly firm.
Ok thank you! :)
I love this! But when do I use in case I do not have tapoica flour?
Could I substitute the tapioca flour for a different flour?
did you? lol
Looks great! I can't wait to try them. They sound savory!
They are delicious!
Great recipe! I was wondering: Is tapioca flour the same as tapioca starch?
yes
Oh my, why do I watch your videos whilst hungry??? Jeez I only wanted to distract myself while my food was cooking. Drooling big time! I will try for sure. Thanks for your time and effort in making these videos! Sun, Sand & Sea from The Bahamas.

Looks good! :-)
Not a big deal, but couldn't find the recipe on the web site by the way.
I haven't had a chance to put it up yet...woops. Will put it up tomorrow :-)
Thank you :-)
Hi there, I'm from New Zealand, what brand of burger bun is that? can you recommend any brands of bread that are vegan?
+BodegaNinja This was from a local bakery and they confirmed that it had to egg or dairy :-)
looks good will try it

Made these tonight, they were delicious! Even my omnivore family loved them.
Fantastic :-)
what kind of bun is that? looks delicious by the way; does your vegan mayo have oil?
Just a bun I bought from the supermarket. No oil in my mayo
I Like you vedios !! Thank you for your vegan recipe 👍👍👍
Sounds great you could put nutritional yeast on there too or some cheese😀👍🏼 you are a good cook
you are so sweet I had to give you a like, wish I could select 20 likes to give instead of just one! I will try your recipe!
Awww thank you so much x
can i deep fry d patties? n can i use mashed potatoes instead f mushrooms? O:)

Thankyou .

Sherismiley About 2 cups :-)
I don't have a cuisinart, do you think a blender would work instead?
+Bella S. Possibly, but it might make it too mushy.
Ok, thanks! and thanks for all the videos. Really enjoying them :)
Can I use other types of flour besides tapioca?
Jillian Khoy Corn starch. arrowroot, potato starch or some rice flour should work :-)
Awesome, thanks for the quick reply. I will be trying this recipe out this weekend.
