Not all VPNs are created equal. Except when it comes to their "no logs" promises. In that regard, they all pretty much lie. Here's what I mean: th-cam.com/video/XVPfyO0c_b4/w-d-xo.html
First, your videos are GREAT! Thank you for posting them. So very helpful. Is there an email address I can send you a VPN question? It’s something I have been trying to figure out now for months but can’t seem to come up with the answer. Again, thank you for all the great videos!
@@klayed [Edited for clarity] He's an a-hole because he didn't respond? You may be too quick to call him names. Especially when you think it through: How is this creator supposed to read Every comment in Every thread on Every video? That's not always possible because he can have several videos per week. Each of these videos can have hundreds or thousands of comments. Plus, he has to do the research, filming, and editing for each video's content (which takes a lot of time even if he has someone editing for him). And, do things in his every day life, like get sleep, spend time with family and friends, run errands, etc. This is how it works. Brand new channels can get back to comments easier because they don't have many viewers. But, the more viewers and comments a channel/videos gets, the more difficult it is for the content creator to read through and respond to them all, so they'll just respond to a few and the rest is about viewers chatting with each other in the thread. So, maybe another viewer will respond to that question. Just something to think about
It seems like NordVpn is the only one that offers meshnet feature that allows remote access. ¿Is there any other con solutions that offers something similar?
Really wasn’t that much of a comparison. All you compared was price, and if you were able to get your money back. I for some reason was expecting more of a technical analysis of these VPN. Oh well
Dude literally says in the beginning that he won't be giving opinions on them and that it will primarily be a comparison of prices, etc. Come on people
Based on the intro, I was expecting you to compare speeds and latency. Although, you only compared price, refunds and installation speeds. I'd love a follow up on this, but I understand if this isn't something you're interested in, especially with the cost involved, even if refunds are possible.
In my experience, speeds are dependent on so many factors beyond the control of a VPN company. In my opinion, the reviewers who are comparing speeds are just blowing smoke. It’s a mostly useless metric.
i agreed with you and am not impressed, his actually not talking about the performance, it such a waste of time..subscribing to a vpn is all about the performance not the refund.
Yes, speed is very important factor for me too. If your home connection is at least 50 Mbps, I think most of the slowdowns will come from the VPN side. And there're many factors: do they configure the servers correctly, how many servers they have, how many servers in the country that you want to link to etc.
@@AllThingsSecured Yes, I agree. It would be complicated because you would need a single Internet connection at one place and accounts on different VPNs. Then you would connect to different countries and test speeds.... Granted, having people from those countries doing the same would be ideal but I think that you could get some interesting data anyway. As a person who wants to be slightly safer when connecting via "dodgy" wi-fi for work purposes, your video seems to have no real value for me. You said that there are no actual differences between VPNs. I am guessing that you watched a TH-cam to get that information - which was it?
I was surprised that you did not mention Mullvad. They are extremely privacy focussed and do not ask for any data. You get an account number and a bunch of ways to pay. In fact you cannot have a subscription because they do not store your data. As a VPN they do exactly what I need.
Would be even more helpful to know which are leaking DNS data, and which are really protecting your usage info (at least knowing which are giving up info to warrants).
For me, I just end up trying a couple different servers and then perhaps a different connection protocol. Usually I can find one that works and doesn't get detected.
Im personally using IVPN for a couple of years and I have to say they do not really offer much (in my opinion) some advertisement claims on encryption. They clearly state what an VPN can and can’t to and so on.. when it comes to privacy (and trustworthiness) I would always choose some equally trustworthy providers like Mullvad, IVPN or Proton VPN (and do to their large user base not so much Nord VPN).
I'm learning to have better security as I go, and despite doing most things properly, I gave my VPN provider my actual email. Not that much of a shame, as I have begun the slow process of detaching myself from google, as much as possible.
I appreciate the video! I actually got an email (in my dedicated VPN email account 😉) from my VPN service 30 days before the auto renewal. They quoted a renewal price that seemed high - especially compared to what they charge for new subscriptions. No information in the email about how to opt out of auto renewal - not surprising. When I logged on to manage my billing settings, there was an “offer” I could claim that added 18 months to my subscription for the same price it would have automatically renewed at if I had not done anything. The price for 30 months in total was very reasonable. Still, it’s kinda stinks that they don’t automatically renew at the lower price for existing customers. They are definitely looking to take advantage of people’s inertia.
Very interesting. However, I would have liked to know about speed and whether or not they work with streaming services like Netflix, Apple, etc. I've had problems in the past with Netflix on ExpressVPN. Thanks.
All I can add to this is one competitor PureVPN has a weird issue on Netflix where sometimes it works flawless and then shows disappear as if you changed to a region you were before and basically everything refuses to play with the anti-VPN nag splash. This all w/o reconnecting and (provably) on the same exit IP address.
As I posted above, I lived in communist China for 5 years and the only VPN that would work consitantly and break through the Great Firerwall of China and subvert the CCP was Express VPN... this is a true test.
@@Schatje79 Lmao, I've literally just seen the only ExpressVPN sponsorship among all that VPN salespitches and then your comment comes out of the blue a month later. Coincidence? Probably.
@@whohan779 Shit, that'd be awesome. I would love some extra sponsorship cash for holiday spending! lol Fact is I'm relatively new to using vpn's. Started with Nord...currently with Express but considering going back to Nord after just learning they got bought out by Kape a year ago which is concerning to say the least. Trying to keep my ear to the ground as far as other people's user-experiences before possibly making the switch back.
@@AllThingsSecured I see. I think they have the best and fair pricing model. It's one flat monthly rate for ultimate flexibility. And they get any form of payment, even cash.
Mullvad is based out of Sweden, which is one of the 14 Eyes countries. I wouldn’t use any VPN service based out of the following countries Fourteen Eyes countries: US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Spain.
@@FlyinZX10R I think that they are the best option from the VPN's selection that there is. They are Open source. You can pay in cash or Monero for anonymity. Also quotes from their site "The key in operating a VPN service is to store as little data (any kind) as possible. Data that you don’t have can’t be handed over to anyone.", "We do not store user traffic logs of any kind.". Look at their privacy section and what they don't log. And for last they are the first recommendation of the Freedom of the Press Foundation. I think they are doing more than enough for the privacy and anonymity of their customers. I'm very curious about which VPN you are using.
This is an amazing, well-researched, and very informative video. Thank you! My current VPN doesn't work well in the country that I'm in and my subscription expires in a few months, so I was planning to test one or two of the other popular ones to see if they work any better before I commit to one of them and was wondering how much of a hassle it will be to get a refund if things didn't go smoothly.
I work for a bigger IT company that works with those online services requests as well, and we have to contact the customer to confirm the cancelation, since in 75% of the cases they made a mistake and they keep the service...so relying on cst saying "I wand to cancel" would end in his business having a massive service outage. Feedback from cst was often "I didn't knew what it was, so I selected cancel, then asking iIT and telling me they need it" ... boss has no idea, IT said we need a service, get the Ok and then boss sees the invoice and wants to get rid of it. When we don't get a response we keep the service active and close the case when there is a paid service involved. But with the opening of the SR the 30 day refund time gets frozen, so even when the case gets completed after 35 days they still get full refund.
Well, that really was not much of a comparison. I'd expect to hear which VPN software was most intuitive to use, who had the best thru put, who had the best support for setting up the VPN in a router, who offered the most simultaneous devices, etc... I use Surfshark, but I'm open to switching if I'm missing out on something worthy.
He LITERALLY says that the industry has caught up to a point where those kind of differences are pretty much pointless to cover as they're basically the same at this point
love the video. i was like let me just trust the first video i watch on vpns since i have no idea but it was really informative to make my own decision. beautiful 👌
Perhaps I have missed it, but I would like to know how trustworthy these VPN's (mine is Nord) when it comes to ptp filesharing (which I do a lot of). Do you have a video on that?
I use Express VPN & have never had a problem with it. You're right it does cost more but works good even when I'm in Thailand. Plus I use Amazon Fire Stick for my TV so, when I go to Thailand I just plug it in & I get all the shows I watch here because it tells them I'm in Chicago. I use it on my computer, TV & phone.
I use signal most of the time. is there a simple way to use vpn> I found it tiresome to connect each time I turned my phone or laptop or desktop on. And which site do I use? if I am in north america is it imperative to use a fake email address and name and only connect to a vpn address in europe? this whole thing make my head hurt.. any advice you can give me would help
I tried NordVPN for close to a month and decided to cancel and get a refund. I find the connection sometimes choke and I have to stop it. But the instruction I followed is to turn off auto renew. I contacted them a few weeks later after I noticed the app was still running and they refused to refund me. I’d say cancellation is not straightforward. Not worth it.
Love your channel Josh! The group I'm in called the crypto vigilante which is all about privacy says that mullvad VPN is the most private because you can pay with monero crypto and they don't ask for any of your info at all. Can you do a video on it or do you know about it?
About Proton, I tried their VPN and got a refund after a while... Recently, I tried their email service. When I asked for a refund, they wouldn't give me one, because I already got a refund for one of their services... So, be aware.
Surfshark doesn't let you turn off auto-renewal by yourself. The setting isn't hidden, it's non-existent, even their help section says you need to contact customer support to turn it off (just google it to confirm if you want). And customer support tries to make you change your mind, they don't just comply. Furthermore, you can't remove your credit card info by yourself. All of that is unbelievably shitty and unethical. Be warned.
Just found your account, and I'm so glad i did. Thank you for such great information, production quality and applicable content! Question for you! I want to use a free VPN. First time using any VPN. If I am limited to one device such as Proton; Should I use it on my iPhone, I use daily, I am at least conscious of privacy and settings and such, at best I practice decent habits. Or, should I use it on my laptop - I cruise on that maybe once a week - Ive used uBlock Origin for years and really enjoy it. Other options? My biggest concern is privacy - avoiding ads, tracking, collecting data/info. Help!
Great video! I hesitated a bit before clicking on it when it was recommended to me because of the channel's logo that looks a bit generic and does not fit the production level you put in your video. Not dissing on you just saying that a nice channel logo can go a long way. Keep it up!
Very helpful! Do you have to actually be able to access the email account that you give them for the purpose of getting the service. In otherwords can you just give them a fake email address?
I currently use ExpressVPN, which you also have the ability to flash certain Linksys routers with their firmware, which enables you to connect as many devices to the VPN network as you want and not just the standard amount they allow you when just installing the VPN software on your computer.
I've seen different comments about refunds and service from Nord. I am surprised to see that yours was one of the best experiences in light of how many negative comments I saw, even on some of your other videos. I wonder what changed.
I went back to Norton deluxe. I was using NordVPN for two years then I started experiencing problems like not being able to startup my PC without turning off the killswitch. That left me vulnerable when turning on my PC
I have ExpressVPN. I got 3 months free plus an extra 3 months because I used the name of a talk show host. That's 6 months free! Also, my debit card expires in another year.
NordVPN.. strange when I wanted to get money back I signed in did the chat but they made me go out make a ticket replay to the ticket why I am canceling and then they will look at the ticket and get back to me. This was last week
I came for actual performance comparison. If someone buys VPN on top of their internet packages they don't care about the mere dollars or the refund policy. You should have compared the speed and connection reliability
Great video👍Now straight up for a guy like me who is not tech savvy now having to deal with Bill C-11 what is your recommendation? Thanks in Advance Marc
I am a former subscriber of ExpressVPN. After their purchase by Kape Technologies, I immediately started looking another VPN service. When a company expands from ad serving toward being a VPN provider, it doesn’t bode well. ExpressVPN was the most difficult cancellation process that I have EVER been through for an auto renewal service. I went on the ExpressVPN website three times to cancel auto renewal. Each time I logged in to confirm the cancellation, I found that it was still set for auto renewal. I spent an hour with an online chat agent trying to get a confirmed cancellation of auto renewal. I asked nicely. Was told “you can do this for yourself on the website.” I got not so nice. I explained that I had done that three times….and it repeatedly reset auto renewal to on. I was put on hold…five times…so the agent could find a supervisor who knew how to cancel auto renewal. The script followed by the agent was vague…and infuriating. After an hour, a supervisor assured me that auto renewal was deactivated. I finally received an email confirming cancellation of auto renewal. Up until the last hour before my subscription expired, I was checking the ExpressVPN website to ensure that auto renewal was off. It is extremely suspicious. I switched to IVPN and I am loving the performance and the multi-hop option. I also like that the anti tracking is offered at a regular level and a “hardcore” mode that defeats Facebook and Google’s tracking schemes. Mullvad and Mozilla VPN were the only other VPNs I would consider. They are independently audited with published results. They are also based on an open source code. Keep an eye out for any news of your VPN being acquired by another company. It can change your privacy dramatically.
I gotta say, though...I am less concerned about a refund policy and I am more concerned about where the VPN is located (i.e., which country are they based in) and whether they are notorious for DNS leaks. Now I am curious as to how Proton VPN stacks up to Mullvad...because I could save myself $60/year. haha
No comparison of Netflix VPN detection rate? It’s annoying having to reconnect your VPN to a different server, because your video streaming service has flagged your current one.
That's a hard metric because it's different for every server and country. Sometimes it's not even the server, it's the connection protocol. Have you tried changing that setting?
What do you think about Surf sharks Alternative ID product? Is it as good as they state? Is it worth learning this product and living in alternative mode?
Hi Josh, would you be nice enough to adjust the settings to allow for Spanish (Latin American) subtitles as you have previously on some of the videos on your channel? Thanks for your consideration.
Hi. I have a much deeper question about VPN-s. I'm trying to get a clean Dedicated IP address in US. How do I do that? I got Nord VPN and dedicated Ip address from them, but after it was assigned after I checked it for Fraud Score it was very high like score of 99 and it was not clean IP address. Any idea?
Thanks for the comparisons, Josh. Just subscribed and am enjoying your content. Regarding the cost comparison, several VPNs (I use PIA) offer multiple devices under the one subscription, and also offer the option of flashing the VPN onto compatible modems for complete coverage. Regarding the multi-step cancellation, could this actually be a good thing, like MFA, to ensure that it's actually you that's cancelling the service?
Thanks for the information Josh. All the more reason to use Privacy virtual card. And set it to a one time use. It may not help with the 30 day money guarantee. But they damn sure won't be able to auto renew. 👍
Josh as an ex UK Microsoft Certified Trainer who taught quite a few Internet related courses but mainly TCP/IP albeit back in the good days of the 1990/00s - you generally come out on top on here. That is not just my opinion but from an anonymous Teckie website I started in 1996 that has over 3000 members now. Having spent a few years stood in front of very demanding, knowledgeable and full-blown geeks, I am used to being put under pressure and the awkward question that come from such Teckies. But my four below, are quite easy except no one ever replies and only serve to fuel a sense of all TH-camrs offering videos like this, even though saying they are sponsored are in fact are. 1) USING EXCELLENT BAIT Due to finding out from ex-students a fairly well known VPN provider who had excellent support staff was taken over by new management, causing most to jump ship, I started out to find a new one. Spent a good time, used to direct line and ability to talk found that I would have to use chat, After four EXCELLENT chats with support staff that I could straight away could tell they knew their stuff and I joined SurfShark with a two-year subscription. A few days later, having a problem with SS, I now found when using SurfShark that ALL the photos of support stuff were now young females and quite attractive. On chatting to, it was obvious they were just cut and painting standard saved replies and even on asking very simple questions on TCP/IP knowledge had none. Before shouts of sexist, please note, back in the 1980/90s as an ICT Teacher (from industry) I fought hard and long to get girls to have GCSE Computer Studies on their list of GCSE options plus making a nuisance of my self of getting failed Typing Course of 23 girls to move over to a new GCSE Information Technology course. My point is that with SurfShark that before parting with my money I got only young males who really knew their stuff (better than me in some cases) but afterwards as were mainly young females who no way were good enough 2. WHO NEEDS TO GO TO SCHOOL In the same vein as 1) above and if expected to be paying for technical support regarding the use of VPN, I do expect in return the person I am chatting to, will have knowledge of what a Virtual Private Network is, and not when asked they did not know what the acronym VPM stands for. Sadly this is just not for the VPN industry but generally from any IT related support service people be it banks, major companies or organization when my query is in regard to IT and even to my amazement is the same for many software and hardware companies. More and more I find on asking the basic concepts of how do we define the first three classes of TCP/IP ranges i.e. Class A,B & C let alone their standard Octet Values, 0-126, 128-191 and 192-233 the support person has no idea what I am talking about. If I do, I always hear the clicking of keyboards of them looking them up. Possibly I am bias having in total 47 years teaching and training IT and I do not expect them to be able to match me, but I DO EXPECT if I or a standard punter paying for an IT product such as a VPN service, should have a basic or elementary understanding of the product they are using. 3. DEVALUING THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINED SUPPORT STAFF FOR THE SAKE OF MAKING EVEN MORE PROFIT I now fortunately have only two months to go with SurfShark and on several occasions asked to be released and be refunded the months I have left, especially pointing out no way will I be renewing my subscription, the time waiting to chat ridiculous, even if you have filled in the precursory input box, it is never read and you get just the premade question asking you what your query, which I now have ready to paste in, after putting in your first question an incredibly long wait until you get a reply which I know full well is the support person is not giving their time and attention to the customer but maybe a 'round-robin' of10 customers, seeing so often by getting a reply that has absolutely nothing to do with your given query but was for some one else. Surfshark's method of support is just to advise in trying a new protocol configuration i.e. WireGuard, OpenVPN or IKEv2 and hope that may sort the problem out. When doing this and it does not, I find on getting another support person, I am told to do this all over again. 4( BEING HONEST ABOUT WEBSITES USING VPN RECOGNITION SW Finally one that even you, I expect, will not talk about and is the not surprisingly 'fight-back' by companies for fact collecting purposes, security and marketing purposes now have VPN recognition software triggering containment or denial services. Since with Surkshark I have made it clear a good half of well known websites, my banking sites, Amazon and eBay plus many others will not allow access to their sites and as such I have to switch SurkShark off and then in some cases (but that is also being recognized) to be able to purchase items, do financial actions or access just general website information. This need to switch SurfShark on and off, often (and I am certainly not alone) we FORGET to switch surShark back on and thus find we have been surfing with no protection we have paid for. (Yes have tried AutoON but does not work) Having taught encryption systems, I understand websites have to protect themselves, but my four points above are never covered by YOU Josh and others like you on TH-cam.
I appreciate the feedback. I’m not sure why you’re pointing such a damning finger at me when this video isn’t pushing any particular VPN nor am I completely ignoring your points. If other TH-camrs haven’t replied to you, I can imagine it’s because you come across as rude and spending way too much time worrying about a refund for a $60 subscription that you should have replaced years ago with or without a refund.
Hi Josh, thanks for this helpful video. I'm getting ready to sign up for a service, and would like to pick the right one for me, and pay for a full year up front. You appear to have published this roughly 3 months ago. In a business which is constantly changing, do you have anything new to add? In my case, I plan to use this from South America, and consistently show I'm logging in from Atlanta. I'm reading about "IP Leakage". Do you know if any in this group has a better track record for the lowest IP Leakage? Thanks for your help.
I tried Proton because I like their email. But the VPN not so much. Either I really need to learn how to setup and use a VPN or it really slowed down my computer to the point it kept disconnecting me so much so, I asked for a refund that same day. My experience was that I had to chase them for this refund for a few days because it kept showing up as a Credit to my Proton account and not a refund. After FINALLY talking to a live person, he issued the refund right away. Thanks for your research on this, even though I'm still without a VPN I'm not sure I want the hassle.
Just wondered why didn't you mention Torguard? Is it because their commission isn't to your liking (I see all the affiliate links). This is Tom Spark's top of the tier list due to "Privacy". If you were really about privacy why miss this one out???
Proton is highly suspect. As one who was a huge fan of ProtonMail when it came out, it gives me no pleasure to say that. Firstly, in spite of the impressive-sounding commitment to absolute privacy, many people in the tech world suspect them of being affiliated with a major intelligence agency. Do I know if they are? No. But here's what set off major alarm bells for me: Years ago I purchaseD an upgrade from Proton for Mail & VPN. The next day I was notified by my bank that a suspicious charge had been attempted on my account, originating from China. My bank had automatically canceled my debit card number, forcing me to order a new one. The suspicious charge? Proton. So why in the hell is a Swiss company, that spends so much time spouting off about internet security and privacy, processing CC charges through a shady Chinese bank?? Things that make you go "hmmmm"...
I have lived and worked in Asian for nearly 10 years now. I personally rate and recommend: 1). Astrill and 2). Express VPN. Neither are the cheapest. But I always went for reliability and fast speed. Astrill has never let me down so far..
you are a really good go to for all things secure, but your VPN comparison should have been labeled as cost and refund comparison only, because their are so many other differences between many of those VPN's. I liked your review anyway.
@@AllThingsSecured ok, but would love to see it if you could share the reason why you hate astrill stuff, especially since astrill vpn is currently maybe the only vpn that consistently works well in china.

Surfshark is a crap VPN. I've been hit with DCMA notices multiple times since using them. When I reached out to their customer service for help, they were seriously one of the worst I've ever dealt with. Prior to this, I had used Nord VPN for years and NEVER had issues. Don't let Surfshark bait you with their cheap prices. You get what you pay for.
@@AllThingsSecured The whole purpose of a VPN is for privacy. If they're leaking my info regardless of what I'm doing, why even buy their crap VPN? If they fail at doing the ONE thing a VPN is supposed to do (protect my privacy), then they've failed as a VPN provider. You shilling their inferior product shows where you stand on things.
I'd like a review of seed boxes. Looked at getting one, but have no idea how they were or which locations would be best to get one. i.e. a remote hard drive to send files to that you can download from so it's untrackable that you've downloaded the files.
But which Vpn will not slow down your download. will connect to other sites like in the USA from the UK and be able to stream tv shows on country restricted sites and are easy to use
Nice start, but I think we all want part two. How easy is it to use. I don't even know why I want a vpn. Just to watch more movies? I'm going to check out your other video on vpn's and see if that fills in my blancs.
That’s unfortunately not true. Some services were able to cancel my account because I was logged in to my account in order to initiate the chat. The others should have been able to do the same.
I thing that I've found recently is that I cannot reach the Amazon website (even the regular shopping one) while my VPN is connected. If that trend continues, it's going to be really difficult to use a VPN in the future.
I usually don't use vpn. I think it's too expencive. But when i could buy nord vpn for 2 years for under 40$ per year i got that. So i use vpn now. Most on my phone. And that's because i just use my phone most. I sometimes need to pause the vpn to get on websites and some streamimg services. But 99% of my use i don't even notice i have a vpn. Expect that the ads i see seems to not be as targeted towards me as they use to be.
Thanks. It would additionally be good to know which providers have open source clients or, preferably, which ones allow for manual OpenVPN and WireGuard setup. I don't trust or use closed source software.
Using an email isn't bad when Proton offers free email addresses and require you to enter absolutely no private information to get them. Worth considering if you're hesitant due to a site asking for email.
I was looking more for information like which has the most servers? Who is in more countries? Who has the better features? Who cares about getting your money back? I would probably do a trial and cancel. Though thorough for what you wanted to say, it didn't really help me at all. Anyone have any info regarding my questions? Thx.

This is how it works. Brand new channels can get back to comments easier because they don't have many viewers.
Pia is the best I believe that doesn't give up no info to warrants
ExpressVPN and NordVPN don't, since they are out of the US jurisdiction. The first is based in BVI (British Virgin Islands) and the second in Panama.
Many sites now detect when you are using a VPN and ask you disconnect before going any further which defeats the purpose - how do you get around this?

How strange. I use expressvpn as well and haven't had problems yet....knock on wood. What issues are you running into if you don't mind my asking?
What about mullvad?
Yea, I couldn't test everything.
@@AllThingsSecured I see. I think they have the best and fair pricing model. It's one flat monthly rate for ultimate flexibility. And they get any form of payment, even cash.
Best VPN
Mullvad is based out of Sweden, which is one of the 14 Eyes countries. I wouldn’t use any VPN service based out of the following countries
Fourteen Eyes countries: US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Spain.
Thanks! So glad it was useful.
Well-presented and straightforward. Much needed info these days. Thanks. Jay Gaur!
Glad it was helpful!
I stumbled into Proton and like using their free service for those moments I need more security.
Proton is for computers only?
love the video. i was like let me just trust the first video i watch on vpns since i have no idea but it was really informative to make my own decision.
Yup. Me too.
Because u couldnt follow simple instructions??
Do VPNs show down a computer’s speed? If so, how much?
Excellent video, thankyou for making this! Subbed
@AllThingsSecured: Josh, what are your thoughts on ExpressVPN after they were acquired by Kape?
Love your channel Josh! The group I'm in called the crypto vigilante which is all about privacy says that mullvad VPN is the most private because you can pay with monero crypto and they don't ask for any of your info at all. Can you do a video on it or do you know about it?
Thanks, Brian! I'd say that iVPN and Mullvad are very similar. Definitely a greater focus on privacy, so it's a good recommendation from the group.
Be warned.
I turned mines off
This was a great educational video about VPNs and you helped me pick which VPN I would purchase. Thanks 👍🏻
Help!
So which two best are for you based on privacy service ?
You'll have to watch a comparison video someone put together .
😂😂 ok ok fair
Great video! I hesitated a bit before clicking on it when it was recommended to me because of the channel's logo that looks a bit generic and does not fit the production level you put in your video. Not dissing on you just saying that a nice channel logo can go a long way. Keep it up!
You didnt included the mullvad vpn which is the best VPN ever. Or is that because you are not affiliated with them?
You are the go to man for this. Great content man!
Thanks, Chase!
What about Norton VPN?
And what about the Norton VPN included with the Deluxe subscription? How does it stack up against the ones in the video?
I don't know. I wasn't able to test them out. Personally, I tend to shy away from most things Norton (just personal preference).
I noticed there was no mention of Norton 360 VPN. Do you have any input? Semper Fi
Thanks in Advance
Marc
Now I am curious as to how Proton VPN stacks up to Mullvad...because I could save myself $60/year. haha
Agreed 👍‼️
This was excellent one of the better videos on this subject I have found and I've watched a lot of good job great job
I saw recently that google is going to be disallowing ad blocking via VPN in their play store starting soon.
Interesting. I hadn't heard that.
Done!
why does no one ever consider mullvad vpn ? whats wrong with them ?
Any idea?
Mullvad not on the list?
Thank you for yor hard work and commitment! This is the kind of content I love watching!
Thanks for the comparisons, Josh. Just subscribed and am enjoying your content.
Regarding the cost comparison, several VPNs (I use PIA) offer multiple devices under the one subscription, and also offer the option of flashing the VPN onto compatible modems for complete coverage.
Regarding the multi-step cancellation, could this actually be a good thing, like MFA, to ensure that it's actually you that's cancelling the service?
if i just want to pirate games is a vpn like nordvpn gonna help?
Are there any VPN's that I can just buy a liecence for rather than monthly subscriptions? I cant find any.
Thanks for the information Josh. All the more reason to use Privacy virtual card. And set it to a one time use. It may not help with the 30 day money guarantee. But they damn sure won't be able to auto renew. 👍
Ha! Good point. 👍🏻
1) USING EXCELLENT BAIT
Due to finding out from ex-students a fairly well known VPN provider who had excellent support staff was taken over by new management, causing most to jump ship, I started out to find a new one. My point is that with SurfShark that before parting with my money I got only young males who really knew their stuff (better than me in some cases) but afterwards as were mainly young females who no way were good enough
2. WHO NEEDS TO GO TO SCHOOL
In the same vein as 1) above and if expected to be paying for technical support regarding the use of VPN, I do expect in return the person I am chatting to, will have knowledge of what a Virtual Private Network is, and not when asked they did not know what the acronym VPM stands for.
3. DEVALUING THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINED SUPPORT STAFF FOR THE SAKE OF MAKING EVEN MORE PROFIT
I now fortunately have only two months to go with SurfShark and on several occasions asked to be released and be refunded the months I have left, especially pointing out no way will I be renewing my subscription, the time waiting to chat ridiculous, even if you have filled in the precursory input box, it is never read and you get just the premade question asking you what your query, which I now have ready to paste in, after putting in your first question an incredibly long wait until you get a reply which I know full well is the support person is not giving their time and attention to the customer but maybe a 'round-robin' of10 customers, seeing so often by getting a reply that has absolutely nothing to do with your given query but was for some one else. Surfshark's method of support is just to advise in trying a new protocol configuration i.e. WireGuard, OpenVPN or IKEv2 and hope that may sort the problem out. When doing this and it does not, I find on getting another support person, I am told to do this all over again.
4( BEING HONEST ABOUT WEBSITES USING VPN RECOGNITION SW
Finally one that even you, I expect, will not talk about and is the not surprisingly 'fight-back' by companies for fact collecting purposes, security and marketing purposes now have VPN recognition software triggering containment or denial services. (Yes have tried AutoON but does not work)
Having taught encryption systems, I understand websites have to protect themselves, but my four points above are never covered by YOU Josh and others like you on TH-cam.

Huh? Whadya say? Is this germane?
Hi Josh, thanks for this helpful video.
I'm getting ready to sign up for a service, and would like to pick the right one for me, and pay for a full year up front.
You appear to have published this roughly 3 months ago. In a business which is constantly changing, do you have anything
new to add?
How do they contact you if you want to cancel in the 30 day period, but you've given them a false email address
Just wondered why didn't you mention Torguard? Is it because their commission isn't to your liking (I see all the affiliate links). This is Tom Spark's top of the tier list due to "Privacy". If you were really about privacy why miss this one out???
thank you so much for this video dude, the stress of dealing with bullshit refund processes are so bad for my mental health
No. But here's what set off major alarm bells for me:
Years ago I purchaseD an upgrade from Proton for Mail & VPN.
Can I use apps and upload vids on fb and yt? Or does it only cover browsers? Thx.
What is the difference between security company vpn like kaspersky avira avg avast and the vpn that u make video for it?
Do VPNs make any difference in speed of services?
I have lived and worked in Asian for nearly 10 years now. I personally rate and recommend: 1). Astrill and 2). Express VPN. Neither are the cheapest. But I always went for reliability and fast speed. Astrill has never let me down so far..
facts and no bs, love it. ... cheers mate.
Big fan of Windscribe. Been using them for years.
Glad to hear it.
you are a really good go to for all things secure, but your VPN comparison should have been labeled as cost and refund comparison only, because their are so many other differences between many of those VPN's. I liked your review anyway.
A comparison without comparison tables to highlight the findings? However, a good video focusing on the essentials.
I wonder if you have ever tried Malwarebytes VPN service and what do you think of it if you have tried it?
I haven’t.
@@AllThingsSecured Thank you for responding.

No refund? I hope those companies don't operate in the EU, 28 days is guaranteed by law for any reason.
I know you're not going to like to hear this, but when you use a VPN for illegal purposes and then complain, you get no sympathy from me.
Why no Mullvad VPN ?
I'd like a review of seed boxes. Looked at getting one, but have no idea how they were or which locations would be best to get one. i.e. a remote hard drive to send files to that you can download from so it's untrackable that you've downloaded the files.
But which Vpn will not slow down your download. will connect to other sites like in the USA from the UK and be able to stream tv shows on country restricted sites
and are easy to use
Nice start, but I think we all want part two. How easy is it to use. I don't even know why I want a vpn. Just to watch more movies? I'm going to check out your other video on vpn's and see if that fills in my blancs.
The reason some services can't cancel just from a ticket is because anyone can send in a ticket claiming to be you.
That’s unfortunately not true. Some services were able to cancel my account because I was logged in to my account in order to initiate the chat. The others should have been able to do the same.
@@AllThingsSecured oh I'm not excusing bad design and laziness, just saying that's why
Why not to compare download / upload speeds?
I thing that I've found recently is that I cannot reach the Amazon website (even the regular shopping one) while my VPN is connected. If that trend continues, it's going to be really difficult to use a VPN in the future.
Could you do a tutorial on installing a vpn on a router. I have a netgear Rax50 which has a place for one except I can't find a how to?
See my tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/s6rSxv87_qY/w-d-xo.html
I don't trust or use closed source software.
what about speed test?
Using an email isn't bad when Proton offers free email addresses and require you to enter absolutely no private information to get them. Worth considering if you're hesitant due to a site asking for email.
I use simplelogin which creates alias for each website. Bonus is, you also can then figure out who leaked/sold your data
I was looking more for information like which has the most servers? Who is in more countries? Who has the better features? Who cares about getting your money back? I would probably do a trial and cancel. Though thorough for what you wanted to say, it didn't really help me at all. Anyone have any info regarding my questions? Thx.
Hey i had VPN from a few companies but they did'nt work out. On top of that i had Malwarebytes but i dont think its working. Do you do consulting on side? I just feel hacked and would love support
Windows has it's own free VPN now. Is it any good though. I turned it on just because.
Hey does anyone know the name of the 1st privacy clip or a link? what to share that with people to make them aware of online security
