- It's obviously impossible to learn any instrument in 10 minutes...but let's see how far I can get🙈

I've wanted to take a bagpipe lesson for years and finally did! Saw a video of Rob Scallon doing something similar with saxophone so I thought it would be funny to try with the pipes. Enjoy!

I'm in PGH taking free lessons at cmu with andrew carlesie but I will def reach out!
The geese mating ceremony is a complex and long series of honks, that can last up to ten minutes, after which the participants are too tired to mate.
5:45 "ancestors hear my plea, help me not to make a fool of me"
didn't work Lmao!
Welcome back Frankie!!! (Great choice adding a bit of 'Dumb Ways to Die' in this, keep the brilliant content up)
Thank you Duke and good ears!! Made that cover years ago lol
I absolutely love these style of videos! One of my favorite things is just someone learning an instrument, especially when they have experience in other instruments!
Thank you!!
It’s great to see you back, I really enjoyed this video🙂
That was hilarious. Thank you, frankie 🎷
I didnt know how much work went into it and had never paid any attention to how bagpipes were constructed or thought about they work. 🤯
I've been playing oboe for 22 years and just got my own set of bagpipes. Very excited to see how comparable, if at all, they are
Wooo that’s interesting let me know how it goes!
@FoolishFrankie will do! Thanks for the amazing and inspirational content!
My knowledge about bagpipes has just increased by at least 99 % 😬: what an amazing, interesting instrument! Thanks Evan and Frankie for this treat of a video :)
I’m SO glad you said that the grace notes sound like a VGM thing!! I bet there’s something incredible to find in there. I was typing that exact observation when you said it aloud. Pipes are SO cool.
I hope you keep learning this! “Think strong thoughts” is such a good phrase lol
I know right!! Thank you hopefully I will:)
I got gifted a (very) entry bagpipe a looong time ago ... started to try and learn with a practice chanter but never got the hang of it. Now I want to give it a try again. 😁
And I remember making the exact same facial expressions while my brain melted.
You should!!
Wow! Great to see you and I have so much respect for you throwing yourself into learning a new instrument! Awesome.
Thank you!🙏🏻
Good to see you back. 😎
Thank you!! 🙏🏻
Omg the Grace notes on the sax and ewi. He’s a class act, folks!
Working on it!!🙏🏻
Really cool to see you use that. Is it a technique in saxophone already or was this new for you?
I messed around with bagpipes some when I was younger as well. The piper showing me the ropes was also surprised when I was able to get a sound going with the bag and the chanter. Being a brass player (trumpet) I think helps in the pushing of air part of it but I couldn't wrap my brain around not needing to coordinate the air with my hands... I kept wanting to wait to put more air in the bag in coordination with my fingers. It is funny how our instruments train our brains in different ways.
Woah interesting that’s so true!
That's a legendary River City Brass Celtic concert for Burns Night I believe, conducted by my old friend Jim Gourlay. Watch out for his kilt and his dancing! I owe so much of what I have done as a musician over the past 35 years to the support that Jim gave me when I was in my late teens and early 20s...
Great video, Frankie! I'm glad you're back. But don't push yourself too hard, take it slow and steady. By the way, I am from the northwest of Spain (Europe), and here the bagpipe is a very popular instrument ^_^
Thank you I will!! That’s awesome, I wish it was more popular here!
hes learning every instrument on earth after the instrument identity crisis
Super fun video! Been seeing your shorts for a while but only recently subbed, but still - good seeing you back!
Thank you❤️🙏🏻
Haha - that is crazy! So good to see you bro
❤️🙏🏻
This was great! What a cool connection and opportunity to try the bagpipes out!
I know right! Thanks for watching:)
Nice to see you back
Super fun video!
Thank you!
damn man this is so cool, looks like you had fun😆
I did! Thanks for watching:)
Please keep learning man. Awesome!
I always thought it took less air because of the bellow, this was a big surprise. What a sound though, and indeed I thought of 16bit sound with the grace notes!
very fun video! I've been considering picking up the pipes here in Scotland - just need to find time to fit it in!
If you end up getting a Low D Tin Whistle, that one is also played not with the tips of your fingers, but further up like you had to here. Much easier when you have wider fingers.
I have a low d whistle actually! I barely play it though cause of how wide the grip is😭
I kept thinking the practice chanter sounded like dial up and then you compared it to vgm haha, this was so fun!
I know right!! Thank you Becca:)
Great vid! I'm going to be piping in the haggis on my aerophone (with the bagpipes preset of course) at our neighbours Burns night supper on Saturday....
YOURE BACK
This is how I imagine my practice sounds like to my next door neighbors.
Hahaha
cool! thats pretty awesome that you learned it in 10 minutes.
Thank you! I would say I barely scratched the surface 😂
I'm happy to see you post a video! Bagpipes, eh, where's the kilt? 😀
HA!
Woah so cool! Looks like such a workout lol.
Is that a Oldschool Runescape max cape on your wall?
So...flute next? Or piccolo!! :D
Kaaaaazzzzooooo!!!
I guess you’re not a popular neighbor after this 😅.
Glad to see u again Frankie! ❤
HA thank you!!
Good to see you again
❤️
thanks you for making this video. I use to give this instrument a lot of hate nd that's cuI didn't know what it was until. I actually thought it was a abag of pipes. So you hope me learn more and now I am not knocking it any ore.
Hey man, you look good, keep up the good work
❤️🙏🏻
Try uilleann pipes next time
I was very impressed also, A great video.
Thank you!!
That looks so hard to do! Is it harder than a bari sax?
Definitely harder imo!
I play bagpipes
Bags of pipe
Wat
Wait a second, you can wiggle your ears??!?!? 6:23
Unintentionally I guess😂
