I relate to when you pick up a figure and think “alright, well I own this now”. Such a huge disappointment when that happens, that was what the turtle van from NECA felt like for me 😅 Mafex figures look amazing compared to other options
I recently got into mafex, never to late. I'm even selling off my mcfarlens . Also mafex does a great job at scaling. Great point, I'd rather save for it, then buy 10 fig's.
I'll buy a few of these comic based action figures. Most figures I own are based off the comics, and the cartoons I grew up with. Those are the versions I want in my collection. Maybe I'll expand into some figures based off modern comics and cartoons.
MAFEX have made some of my absolute favorite figures in the last few years. Their DC offerings are incredible. The brown suit Wolverine is a shining gem amongst the rest of my dolls.
@@NostalgiaUnboxed I think that was one of the first ones I grabbed. Instant “well crap. Guess I’m buying these now” their Spidey offerings are top notch.
I really like when stuff gets reviewed that's not brand new; even if it's literally the only Mafex Jim Lee X-Men figure I didn't get. Review Spot (that guy with half a million subscribers like Shart & Pixel Dan - yet hardly anyone knows about) doesn't just put out reviews of non shiny brand new stuff, but does re-reviews on stuff they reviewed over a decade ago...and (don't know who they are) ppl love it. [None of that was sarcasm]
8:21 Woah, I didn't know Jubilee was a part-time Vulcan. You know what's up with the pointy ears? I don't collect that line; although I do collect 1/6 scale figures (the standard mixed media movie character variety), and would certainly buy & crown Mondo as king if I could borrow Wayne Szalinski's shrink ray to make 'em 6" scale.
The shiny stuff can be fixed with Mr Hobby Matte spray. I don’t resell Mafex stuff so it’s not an issue to me and Mr Hobby is a fantastic spray that leaves no trace that you sprayed it at all. Glad Rouge is on the way, ML Beast fills in that spot for now but yeah, I’d love a Mafex version. Jubilee is also definitely needed. I also wish they’d figure out how to do articulated hair. The Supwr Sayian 4s have it.. I’d like to see Mafex figure it out going forward.
My advice? Go in on the Mondo, Mafex, and Marvel Legends line, or the ole "MMML treatment" as true fans call it. Also, buy triples of each because triples is safest. Triples is best
I dig these mafex figures I got the whole line just need to finish this move and room set up before I start reviewing again, luckily I banked a couple reviews for the move. Moving as a collector is a pain in the a** makes you rethink what you are doing lol
Mafex wins hands down. Also, the price being $100+ is only in the states. Normal pricing is $40ish - $70ish depending on which Japanese site you order from. So it DEFINITELY is worth it over the Marvel Legends one.
@@MrRawnch Shipping if you chose the cheapest would be like $16. A lot of places here in the states definitely charge more for Mafex and other imports and still put shipping and tax on it. Not worth buying imports on the sites here. Just places like Plaza Japan or if your using a shopping proxy to buy from ANY foreign site. Way cheaper.
I love this figure but…Most versions don’t have the lining of the cowl on her face colored blue. It’s skin colored so it makes her face look odd. This figure you have is correctly colored but when I try to buy it, it isn’t.
Less popular characters often go on sale pin bbts. I think this was down to 60 at one point. But I originally bought this when it came out so 100 for me.
It's funny, for the X-Men, I don't think any line has done every member 100% great, at least for me there's always something missing in one or two characters per series. That for me has actually made it so I'm cherry-picking from everyone, and it's great that all the major 1/12 figure lines for these characters scale well. Believe it or not, for this Jean the main reason I haven't taken the plunge is that she doesn't have a ponytail head, which I guess is mostly an animated aesthetic. Your review though has gotten me pretty close to taking the plunge, especially with the Mafex Gambit having been re-released lately. Also, I dunno if you're particular about Iron Man from the MCU, but I recently bought the Threezero DLX Avengers Mark VII figure, and just from the perspective of admiring the engineering and artistry, I think it'd be great to see your perspective on it someday. It's truly like a 1/12 Hot Toys, and in fact, in some regards they do things better than them, it's a marvel to behold!
Looks nice. But growing up during the late 80s to 90s, being picky, it doesn't look like the Jim Lee drawing. Since the character update was from Mr. Lee

I definitely don't care for the shiny blues in play here and on the Wolverine they did awhile back. Just seems like they put too much thought into trying to find a way to match how the comic shades black with blue and vice versa without resorting to cel-shading or panel art. Generally speaking though, the MAFEX version of a character is better than whatever Hasbro has done, it's just always a question of is it 75 dollars better?
I should had watched this a couple of days ago and actually looked up Mafex Jean Grey review as I'm not too happy with my Hasbro Jean Grey. She's cheap but also very cheap looking. For whatever reason, I thought they might had used GI Joe molds and articulations but they didn't. The mold doesn't bother me but the lack of articulations and cheap looking paint does.
Her face looks aged and not as feminine. I can't explain the off-putting reason why this doesn't look like her face. Surprisingly, I like the X-Men 97 Jean Grey face better. Great review though! 👏👏👏
I see this Jean... and all I see is potential for Black Widow and Medicom has yet to do it which is baffling. Maybe someday somewhere it'll be done. Same can be said about X-23 since it's been over 20 years since the character's first appearance.
Love the MAFEX line, but got to admit that the way they're doing Marvel Legends lately, they're getting very close to satisfying the same itch for me. That new '97 figure looks great. Hoping they give us a Jubilee that gets close to the Mondo one. But I really hope they give us some new firework effects. Those old ones were just terrible.
I do not have confidence in Hasbro to hit the mark as well as Mondo, but they have a stream today at 11am EST and there was a leak of the toon Beast, which looks really good
