    At 54 years old, I had no future as an analyst-programmer, so I took learning advanced Excel very seriously. I prepared a portfolio with my projects that I uploaded to my Excel blog and I applied for data analyst positions. The last 9 years before retiring I managed to work as Controller & Reporting in 5 multinationals, taking advantage of my knowledge of Excel, VBA and Power Query. Four years after my retirement, I continue to publish articles about Excel on my blog as a hobby for spreadsheets that I hope will last the rest of my life, as long as my health is with me.

    I've been freelancing as a spreadsheet consultant (google sheets and excel) for the last 3 years and I love it! Independence, freedom and can stay away from the politics within a company 😃
    I'm in the UK and once clients work with me they tend to come back for further work once they know I am reliable and provide excellent value for money. I have a background in financial insurance and so apart from my spreadsheets skills I can draw upon various other skills and experience from that which helps a lot. All in all, I really enjoy it.

    Upsides are the money, definitely. Downsides are delays in data-supply and debates with IT-departments which often cause me almost never being able to work full-time on 1 project. Over the past years I therefore moved to building one-off Excel/VBA tools as well as maintaining reports I built for other customers in the past, at the same time.
    Great video, greetings from the NL.

    Great video Mynda. I've used channels like yours to teach myself advanced skills (PQ, Power BI, DAX, etc) and parlaid that into consulting work after I retired from my Fortune 50 company. A lot of companies, especially smaller companies, don't know what they don't know; this is a big opportunity for people with advanced Excel and related skills.

    you depend us every time. Thank alot. I used my knowledge of excel in daily work in my job. This makes me very strong to deal with data especially if you deal with big data and from different sources. These works develop me and help me to know different problems of data at least in the same work in other parties. I take advantage this point to start search in special works after my official job. Good and big chances for deep learn in excel skills. Power query, power pivot, pivot table,conditional formatting, advanced formulas and at least little vba will support in smarts works. Thank you master teacher.

    Regarding the "ask for 50% up front" comment - correct - there are a number of "not so serious clients out there" so you need to filter those out. What also helps is to be careful when they tell you "oh, we have everything (i.e. data) in orderly form, we just need someone to tackle the report or so...". Have yourself at least a few hours of "current state analysis" as a step BEFORE you commit to building anything for a fixed price.

    Hy Mynda, nice video, I definitively show this to my students. One important skill is communication skills: continuously be in contact with your client. What are his/her requirements? You did not mention offering a fixed price for a dashboard, that is fine. Exel experts know how much time it cost to build a dashboard, but collecting and cleaning the data can be difficult to predict.

      The macro recorder doesn't work in Power Query. However, Power Query already records all the steps in the applied steps pane, so there's no need for it. Once you save your query, you can refresh it with the click of a button. If you'd like to learn Power Query, please consider my course: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-power-query-course

    I am trying to make excel work for a complicated sorting need that I have. I’ve run in to a roadblock. Who can I reach out to for help? It’s hard to describe my problem. However, I’ll give it a try.
    I have 1500 lines of items that I am sorting from 7 different tables. Each line has valuable info. It’s not numbers, it’s words only. I sorted with pivot tables and have slicers to help narrow down the models on one sheet.
    What I would like is to have the slicers to narrow down the original tables info as well, but I can’t seem to find out how to do that.

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Slicers either work with PivotTables or Tables. One Slicer cannot filter both. However, if your Slicer is connected to the PivotTable that is based on the source Table, then that should be enough.
      If you're stuck, you can post your question and sample Excel file on our forum where someone can help you further: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-forum

      @@MyOnlineTrainingHub She was applying for at home jobs. They phoned and did an interview. Then sent her a $5000 check to cash to purchase fax, scanner and other equipment they wanted her to have for the job. We did not take the check to the police, we took the check to the bank and said we suspected it was bogus. The bank verified that it was bogus. We did not deposit the check, only asked about its authenticity. This happened about 5 times during a 6 mo. period. (different companies, different amts, 1 check even came via registered mailzs) The bank closed her account and refuses even 3 yrs later when she had a physical job driving a school bus, to open a new account for direct deposit. We suspected fraud, and so never tried to deposit the checks. The last straw was that the last check was actually drawn on the bank that we use.

    No me gustan ese tipo de empresas porque utilizan la deslocalizacion del trabajo, para poder explotar a los trabajadores, basando su modelo de negocio en la explotacion laboral y el fraude fiscal, creando un entorno donde todos los trabajadores tienen que competir entre si, en todo el mundo, como siempre, con peores condiciones economicas para el trabajador, las mas faborables para estas empresas, como criterio de "creacion de trabajo". Lo mismo que se hizo en su dia con la globalizacion y la deslocalizacion de las fabricas, ahora llegando al siguiente nivel. Muy mal ver esto en tu canal. Una decepcion!

    • @MyOnlineTrainingHub
      @MyOnlineTrainingHub  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Lamento que te sientas así, sin embargo, hay mucha desinformación en tu comentario. Estas plataformas no permiten el fraude fiscal, eso es simplemente ridículo e infundado. La empresa paga al trabajador y el trabajador debe declarar sus ingresos como cualquier otro ingreso. Los fondos se transfieren a la cuenta del trabajador, por lo que el departamento de impuestos de ambos lados puede rastrearlos por completo.
      Corresponde al trabajador fijar su tarifa, por lo tanto no hay explotación.
