No, that's all on you Pavlin . Your friend followed all the necessary precautions for that type of adventure to the letter . He knew the territory; you didn't . Good learning lesson and lucky outcome .
Pavlin, Good to see you on the Ladhak topic again, great Video. Your unfortunate experience will be helpful for many riders who don't know the terrain / AMS ( High Altitude Sickness)/ Rain/ Snow etc.. I remember still last we could contact when you reached Jammu, after that no news. I was verymuch aware that you are a very responsible rider and will not act like a Tom Cruise🤪🤪. Also no doubt about your riding skills. I was worried about natural calamity, i.e. AMS/Landslide/ Heavy snowfall etc. which you witness at Khardungla..... anyways I am happy that you reached home safely. Come again, this time I'll give you company for Umling top ( 19024 feet, ASL) and some new locations which are beautiful but very challenging too. Take Care.
Having spent years in USAF Rescue, and pushing my own limits not always thinking of those "At home" this story hits home on many fronts. Hats off to your friend for his decision process and his concerns.
'And as you know, when Indians talk they shake their heads like this!' - That one made me laugh right out loud! Having spent 10 of my formative years in Southeast Asia, this is so true! I remember these episodes so well, and all the trials that happened one after another....great re-telling of it all and the lessons learned! Enjoying this new side-line format quite a lot, Pavlin! Cheers, and have a great weekend!
I know a few Bulgarians. All indestructible. With food and a beer anything is possible. But, couldn't agree more. All part of the preparation of things hopefully we never need. Good topic. Happy travels 8
Lesson learned: always follow exactly all the instructions your local guide gives you, without asking. This way you won't make his head spin, or shake. Please more of these stories.
I just love this series. Unforeseen events happen all the time and you can never be ready for them, all you can do is to get out of the situation and laugh about it some years later
I have a GPS tracker hidden on my bike that my wife (and others) can see anywhere I’m traveling on the planet (it hopefully will help me recover it if it’s stolen), along with an OnSpot so we can message. These give her the peace of mind that allows me to travel!
This story is a good reason to carry something like a Garmin spot tracker when going solo and remote, set it up so it allow friends and family to follow your progress by GPS. Being a PLB you can just push a button if you need rescuing, but only as a last resort.
Well because of the issues in Ladakh India does not allow satellite phones anywhere in the country and they are pretty strict about it, so it's just as well you did not carry one. You can always get a postpaid sim from a friend. Totally agree with your friends concern. Last time I was in Sikkim my guide told me her dad had been walking along one of those roads and a stone fell from above and hit him and killed him. She was living in the village now working as a guide to support her family. The mountains are beautiful, but the roads are very unstable. Glad it all worked out. 😊
I usually ride by myself on the highway trips, if I go off road, I usually want someone with me. I am 57, prone to do stupid stuff on a dirt bike or dual sport. I need someone to follow me off road to make sure I don't get into more than I can handle.
Pavlin , I really enjoy your videos of your motorcycle travels. I have a honda valkyrie I want to put dual sport tires on for off road and camping. What do you think?/thanks
Pavlin my friend, as you know your adventure to Ladhak was the inspiration for our trip to this beautiful part of the world. We were glad that we had very expeienced guides. as things there can change very quickly. Cheers
Ahahah I remember listening to this story from your voice, face to face. It was so engaging, as so many others! Don't remember what we where drinking, though 😆. I am glad you are sharing all this on YT. Ciao! ✌️
Interesting to say the least. We take a lot for granted but communication in some areas is all but impossible. Bad things can happen in some places totally out of one's control. Glad you have a concerned friend. Love to go through those passes. I watched vid on it so interesting. got to to do it
I always watch your videos very attentively. These are very interesting. I watched your that ladakh riding video earlier and know how you returned with the punctured tyre. I often think of your that situation with a flat tyre in that secluded place on the mountains Today I have comr to know the most interesting part that you had not told in that video. I rode to Ladakh in September, 2019. Again I am going to the Spiity valley and Ladakh on this 20th August after three days from today alone on my bike starting from Upper Assam,India. I think your advice will help me. Thank you.

Speaking from personal experience, Indian friends are not just friends. They're family.
I agree!
If you get a SPOT for a reasonable annual fee you can get rescued from anywhere on Earth and are insured against the cost. Satellite based system.
Use to have, don't want it now.
Your indian friend was a real, genuine one.
Everybody of us should take in account this lesson learned. Good example and good advise, Pavlin!

Great advise....and as we all age I believe the harder, less travelled roads should be travelled with a motorcycle friend.

Change the bike or buy another.
Hi Pavlin, Why you don’t use something like SPOT gps localization system?
When the family can track it they worried every time when I stop. for long time.

Buy yourself a PLB, like a Garmin InReach and everyone who needs to know that you're ok, will know you are ok.
Ok
motorcycle adventurers needs to invest in a portable satellite GPS messenger subscriptions for travelling in remote places
I won't!

Next time when you travel to remote places without signal cover it's better to take satellite telephone (Thuraya) .
Ok
Funny, but Very interesting story

Glad you liked it!
Garmin InReach is illegal in India (or any satcom devices)
@@JohnnyJacob OK Thanks for this useful and surprising information

Nice video 🤣🤣🤣
I wonder if there is a cost estimation for the whole trip.
Without the rescue cost 😂😂😂
About 2,000$ India was cheap.
Wow, a rotary phone.
Yes
Sorry that i called 😅✌
No problem!

That’s why I have $50k insurance from GEOS. Just in case.
Keep in mind that 99% of the insurance companies do not pay if you are off the road.
