    The sound the door makes when you slam it closed is probably one of the most satisfying sounds I’ve ever heard. You can just hear how heavy and well built that car is.

      Kids, buy a clean Vic for under 2K, put a blower and tires on it, and run this slow Merc off the road. They should have named this model 'nova'. It was designed for a hopped up Triton V-10 but FoMoCo said; wait for it, No Va! A 4.6 is a durable low compression motor, with 7-8 lbs boost it makes 400 hp and holds up well. What a great el cheapo diy project car, a real sleeper! Just stay away from the options when you buy one; the electric seats and windows, funky opt luminescent dash, and the opt air suspension. Look for one with the factory tow package. BTW Cop Vics use the same powertrain, so I'd stay away from them cuz they're beat. Five grand will get you a nice sleeper (if you provide the labor) that will run mid 13's.

      @c4llahan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      chris chilson Even then, the Marauder has an unexplainable swagger you can’t replicate with your average Vic. Of course, you could always just rebadge a Vic, but you’d just be driving a clone.

    • @crankychris2
      @crankychris2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@c4llahan At the last minute in late 2002 FoMoCo management nixed the Triton V-10 this car was designed for because of a gas guzzler tax. This 450hp/470 ft lb motor would have put this car in the mid 13's. The 'HO' engine used made only 63 hp/25 ft lb more than the anemic 4.6 it replaced. Low speed torque was actually worse than the base 4.6 below 3000 rpm. Not good with 2 tons to launch. Even repetitious Jackie Stewart commercials couldn't help sales. Some say these could be bought for under 25K new in 2006, but I didn't see that. It is a collector car now, I even saw one on Mecam! Find a clean one and put a blower on it, and there's your 'sleeper' muscle car ;)

      Ignacio Alveraz my father is a very lucky man, he bought a brand new mercury marauder in 2003 from a dealership. But in that special case ford did a special thing for the dealership owner and sent his marauder to the guys at svt. They put a cobra engine in it and gave it that svt spice. It hit the dyno and made 380 horses

    Marauder is a great find, too bad that one was neglected by its previous owner. Still, most of the issues appear to be fixable at minimal cost... and with only 103,xxx on the odometer it should be reliable for years to come.

      These motors have all cast/hypereutectic internals, and they are somewhat high compression, they don't hold boost very well but it can be done. One of my coworkers has a Marauder with a Kenne Bell blower on it that he's had for a pretty long time and it's held up well, but he doesn't really beat on it.

    I confess, I also love that old platform. I once owned a Crown Vic that I purchased from a Police Chaplain. Seriously, I didn't even know there was such a thing. The guy was actually a Sargent. He told me one of his duties was to go to car accidents (when called) and give last rights. Anyway, the car he sold me was fantastic; Rear air ride suspension, leather, air bladder type lower lumbar in the driver's seat and black rubber plugs on the rear trunk lid where the police radio antenna used to go. It was like driving a marshmallow. I loved that car.

    Take about a grand, do 4.10 gears, rear control arms and a tune to start and it's a whole new car. Things like lowered springs, cold air intake, underdrive pulley really increase the performance feel. Yep, it's a 4200lb brick. A supercharger is the hot ticket for the ultimate sleeper. They're rare at only 11,052 made. I have a silver 2004 with a sunroof and only 3,214 were made that year. Not too many people know these were available in four colors.

    Built in St Thomas Ontario Canada, right around the corner from me. My father worked there for 32 years, I remember when he would bring these cars home fresh off the factory floor. Really cool history on these cars.
    Do a video looking under the back seat, all of the factory workers that worked on these cars would sign the floor underneath the rear seat cushion.

      @@randolfo1265 so still not st thomas which was my point . And depending which gate you entered by it was either talbotville or southhold , as it was halfway between . My friends lived on the dividing road - on their side talbotville , other side of the road southhold. Fun if you had to call emergency services

    • @reeltorock
      @reeltorock 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I grew up in London, ON about 15min north of the plant. Many fond memories seeing the brand new Crown Vics and Grand Marquis up on the display stands by the highway. It must have influenced me, because I've owned several Panther platform cars and currently have 3 including a 1987 LTD Crown Vic that was built within a week of my birth. When the plant was built in 1967, St. Thomas was the closest recognizable city, hence the plant name (even though the village of Talbotville was closer). The City of London annexed part of the township just north of the plant in the mid '90s, so if the plant had been built since then, it would have been called the London Assembly Plant. Many locals in the area have referred to it as Ford Talbotville. It's now a big empty field.

    Nice, a Panther. FYI brakes are not cop. They are same as every other Panther platform car except Town Car limo. Rear lights are not cop. They are unique to Marauder. Steering wheel is also unique to Marauder. Center console was available on Crown Vic Sport and Grand Marquis LSE aside from dot matrix section. Front suspension is not cop, it's Marauder specific.

And it gets driven pretty hard in city traffic. My town car had 340,000 when i sold it (although it WAS more highway miles...) and is still around, I see it every once in a while in town. Guy I sold it to says it's over 400K now. They last forever if you take care of them. 200K is easily achieved, 300K is harder but not impossible. 400K and above is not as uncommon as you think, especially for livery and taxi cars.

    What's holding the brakes are the flexible brake hoses; not lines mind you. They have softened and restricted the line so that the caliper, which is also aged, is most likely dragging somewhat and fluid cannot return under the original condition. Jack up, apply brake, spin wheel, which one is failing? If one, do all, bleed once.

You can access this feature by tapping your finger or clicking your mouse on the little magnifying glass icon at the top of your screen. Might I suggest you search for something called a "Murcielago"., it has a V12 (that's a an engine that has four more cylinders then the engine in the marauder 😉). There's also a smallish company from Italy called "Ferrari". They also only make a few cars so you may not have heard of them. Might I suggest you search (on TH-cam) for something called an "f355". That motor is also a V8, however it has five valves per cylinder. You may be impressed.

    I can actually personally attest to the "cheapest marauder" title being false this time. I bought a clean title '03 at a wholesale auction for $4600 back in june 2017. Events surrounding the car (not all of which were mechanical) ended up with me hating this car like the devil.

      bricks brickman I call bullshit on this clean title marauder being the cheapest. I watched a blue with a clean title go for $3200 on ebay

      Pile Of George I'd kill to have an original Dark Blue Pearl, the rarest of them all. Only 328 produced! I had a 04' Silver Birch #406 and my next will be a DBP or another 04' w/ sunroof (another ridiculously rare feature for these cars that damn near every other car in the world has)

    I saw those at the dealer, when they came out. I always thought they would be great to have. However, I was driving a '97 Marquis, and it wasn't the time to be changing my vehicle. I wish I had been a tad more curious at the time. I loved the Marquis. The Marauder was something different, though. It was unmistakable, with the huge dual exhausts sticking out the back.
