After recently finishing the game, the metaphors and narrative swell... the idea of learning to better connect with people, to appreciate the little contributions they make everyday to have someone's life be just a bit easier was beautiful. The game made me rethink a lot about how I communicate and reach people in my life. It is rare a video game, let alone a piece of art, can do that.
It’s a shame that people have to teach people lessons in video games since they’re too spoiled to listen to an elder speak facts from word of mouth.

I'm about 10-20 hours into Death Stranding and I'm obsessed with it. I've never played anything like it. On the surface it seems kind of boring but it's actually calming and exciting and interesting all at once. Breath of the Wild is my favorite game of all time and there are some aspects of this game that actually remind me of it - it's like they hyperfocused on just the terrain and navigation and eliminated a lot of noise to just get to a level of realism and detail on just one thing.

I walked into this game completely blind, and knew basically nothing about Kojima. I actually enjoyed the hell out of this game due to the enjoyable scenery that you are able to traverse with the tools that you have been given. Not to mention the wonderful since of accomplishment that you feel after going across the map to deliver a package that you know you will be rewarded for. It may not be extremely useful but I still feel a slight since of accomplishment for doing it

Tactical delivery operations
Having played this for several hours it must be said that this game managed to create a really great online community... can't tell you how much bridges, ladders, climbing rope and generators placed by strangers have helped me out.
Cliff racer yes! It’s a pretty brilliant mechanic.
The mission where you had a time limit and couldn’t get the cargo wet... thank god for the bridges.
Not sure if this was a joke or if you were truly grateful for those things in a game.

JP I was being serious - truly thankful for those bridges, along with ladders and ropes I came across.
I was skeptical about the whole social media mechanic when Kojima talked about it, but it turned out to be a wonderful part of the game.

One of the most unique games I’ve ever played. I was so strangely obsessed with it and finished playin it a few months ago with over 70+ hours on it. Really looking forward to replaying it again in the future one day.
It’s not a game for everyone, if you expecting something that will make you feel like some superhero and expect some crazy action like a lot of games, this is not it.
For someone who plays call of duty everyday, I really enjoyed this game. It was like therapy from all the usual shi I see in video games. I loved the music, the great characters, and the crazy story. It was also beautiful and was just overall very unique. As I see someone described in the comments that the game is calming, exciting, and interesting all at once. Can’t wait for DS2, and other games from Kojima.
Can’t wait for Kojimas next creation. This game was truly stunning and different. Would love to see a moon colony game directed by him similar to The Callisto Ptotocol. Would love to see his spin on that genre.

Kojima already said on an interview for the BBC that he was currently in the pre-production stages of 2 games. Both of which feature moon based colonies. The 1st game he's working on is "UFO: The Return of SHADO", and the other game is "Space 1999: The Return of Space 1999". UFO will even feature the original voice talent of Straker, and of course, Kojima said Brian Blessed was already on board for his role in the Space 1999 game.
This is defo unexpected and came out of nowhere (who even talks about UFO & Space 1999 today???), but they were decent old shows, and if Kojima Productions is making it, it'll definitely be worth a look.

I love how in the modern industry we still get the odd weird game from time to time. Is it for me? Probably not, but I really appreciate that people like Kojima are doing this stuff and showing the 'art' side of gaming.

I loved working on infrastructure. By the time I was done with my achievement run, I had built the entire roadway system. I also built a pretty nice zip line system. I had to be careful with bandwidth but after I maxed out all of the bunkers I managed to do it. I'll definitely play it again.
Watching this 4 years later after playing like 10 hours. The introduction to the game in the first 1.5-3 hours are insane! It's so visually pleasing and you can really feel the weight of the world you live in.

With that being said Im sorry to say you do not appreciate games the way some of us do. So many games are alike nowadays. We rarely get unique and risk taking games like this. I absolutely adore this game because I genuinely think it’s fun and addictive. Even if you don’t enjoy it you MUST appreciate it for the originally and give it points for doing something no other game has attempted much less accomplished.
Please support original games. support of games that break free of the mold will inspire other game developers to take bigger risks and actually offer us new and original games.

I got the game when it first came out and played for about a few days. I felt it was daunting at first. I put it down and just now picked it back up and I’m absolutely addicted. It’s a magnificent experience with breathtaking vistas and yes some convoluted exposition but that’s ok, it’s just so good and different

you should've gotten them by or before 20 hours in. You should meet a man called "The Craftsman" that will make you some guns if you get him to join up on the UCA's quest. (this is a main quest or part of a main quest)
Personally I love it. My recommendation is this, get high, turn the lights down, grab some snacks and just enjoy the slow ride, the music and the vibes. Some of my most relaxing moments playing this game. I will be streaming it also if anyone wants to stop by the channel. Cheers 🤙🏼🍻🚬
I just started playing this game yesterday (on the day of the PC release) and it was the most oddly engaging experience Ive ever had with a game. I realized I was playing what essentially amounted to a walking simulator but for some reason it wasnt boring at all. Very surreal

Exact same here omg lol. Well I just bought it the other day for pc and I thought it would be boring but the gameplay is really relaxing and the songs that play are perfect. Also these have to be the highest quality motion capture and cutscenes I've ever seen. You can tell a lot of love and passion went into this game.

The herd mentality on this game was astounding. I played this game at launch. I just downloaded the directors cut PS5 version and again I’m hooked. People deadass hated this game because their friends said it sucked. They read comments and just made their minds up based off of other’s opinions, they didn’t even touch the game, they just saw what everyone was saying, cuz they’re all saying the same exact thing due to hive mind, and they just decided it wasn’t worth it. It sucks. Cuz this game is a masterpiece.

Doing my second playthrough with directors cut version, reminds me why I had over 100 hours in it the first time around. It's just so fun to me. I think people tend to over simplify things, you can boil down anything down to it's most simple description and make it sound bad. You can describe Mario as a game where all you do is jump and nothing else but in reality it's more than that. This game is more than a "walking simulator" and I love it.

Quite a lot. And as an extra, it feels AMAZINGLY good when you create the foundations for a construction and a couple of hours later you realize the other players in your server finished the whole thing. It really makes you feel connected to them. I love this shit.

For those who say "it's just a walking simulator" in a negative way... Then what ? Their favorite games are probably just "pew pew simulator" and can also be dumbed down to a single concept ; but how is constant combat inherently more fun ?
I've seen streamers say "there's no gameplay, you just walk" while they keep stumbling and breaking their cargo. Well yeah in other games you just press a button and it makes you walk. Here you have an actual deep gameplay without the need for constant combat to make it interesting.

It's weird how a Kojima fan as myself, I avoided this game for a very
long time. I finally bought it on 80% sale, and after 6 hours of playing
I felt like I had wasted my money. The beginning of the game was too
slow for my taste. Somehow I forced myself to continue playing it, and
what do you know, It turned out to be one of the best games I've ever
played. I've now played 150 hours and have 100% of the achievements. The
story is such a beautiful masterpiece and the gameplay is damn awesome.
I highly recommend every Kojima fan, to buy this game. Give it a chance
and after the slow start you'll most likely love it.

I don't quite agree that this is just a fancy Walking Simulator. It's so much more than that! For example, it's an *excellent* high-quality Normand Reedus Grunting simulator! It's important to recognize Norman Reedus' grunts, they're really well defined and excellent in this game :D

It's crazy how there's still an entire base system w/ weapons that are both lethal and non-lethal almost exactly like MGS and yet people haven't featured that in any of the videos. It's almost as if they didn't make that far in the game and just trashed it. Even here he's saying the gunplay isn't fun and I don't know what he's talking about, I played the game on hard and I found the gunplay incredibly satisfying. The only thing that's annoying about it is it doesn't let you zoom in to aim but there are plenty of third person games that do that.

This looks like a very engaging and therefore fun game. In most games you just push L stick to move without thought. Here it looks like every step you have to be careful with, which sounds slow paced but also so engaging when you think of how much you have to walk here. Vehicle controls and combat look supposed to be clunky because it shows your character vulnerability and harsh environment.

i was watching theradbrad play until i hit that part and he said those words. I DIED LAUGHING because not only i had spent hours watching the gameplay until that part but also realizing that thousands of other people, specially the ones skeptical of the game would be as well. just think for a moment this bit was intended for those players who didn't like the grind of walking and dealing with the first 10+ hrs but did it anyway hoping to get a good thrilling part before ditching the game because it wasn't their cup of tea.

Also yes, Jake... it doesn't pick up until 10 hours. Kojipro had a previous game called Metal Gear Solid 5, and the prequel to get you used to the game was called Ground Zeroes. That's exactly what the first 2 chapters in the game are. You don''t get Fast Travel until Chapter 3, you don't get any anti-BT weapons until Chapter 3, you don't start understanding the story until Chapter 3, and you don't fight the first boss battle until the end of Chapter 2. Kojipro should have split the game, because the intro (Chapter 1 and 2) clocks in at around 12 hours, trying to get you used to the game mechanics... because you REALLY need the basics later in the game; it's completely essential to your survival. The chapters also get short after Chapter 3.

Almost feels wrong playing it for free when this game clearly had a shit ton of competent and talented people working on it. First impressions left me speechless today. Thank you Epic Games... Steam is still a better launcher tho LOL
i think they did it because of the announcment of DS2 (obviously), simply because most people hinged on buying the game, rather than playing it. If more people will try DS1, more will buy DS2. And its working, considering that you constantly get multiplayer errors now (but thankfully the online structures are still there)
