  • Part Two of an instructional video series describing the functions of Scalextric's new Advanced Digital 6 Car Powerbace (C7042). Additional videos will be forthcoming including those for pacer cars, yellow flag modes, analog mode, and more.
    Part Two describes how to access and use the powerbase's analog mode, which allows a user to race standard, analog or non-digital, cars on their track. A lot of people have large collections that they don't want to put digital chips in, but still want to drive. This lets them do that. The powerbase can also be used as a purely analog base, replacing the old power track and lap timing systems.
    Enjoying the racing? Enjoy it more with people who share your enthusiasm! Look for a club, racing group, or even just another person with the same system near you to race with. It's easy! Check out a forum such as SlotCarIllustrated.com, or SlotForum.com, and look through their clubs and track listings. You might be surprised to find someone right around the corner to race with, or even a whole club of people! For example, I race with a club called the Digital Racing Alliance of Western Washington (DRAWW). Google it! :)

    Merci, parfaitement clair... Je n ai pas trouvé de vidéos en français pour faire rouler des voitures analogiques sur un circuit digital cela me privait de mes monoplaces...

    It will damage the 4 car base. Also, the digital base may cause damage to the analog one. It is best to remove the base not in use completely. The other option is to modify the wiring of both bases yourself, so that you are switching between two different sets of control input, leading to just one set of wires to the track.

    Awesome! Thank you, now I can order my BMW Z4 :)

    Sure thing! Note that with the digital chip in there, even in analog mode, the car will always have full brakes. Even if your controller has no brakes or adjustable brakes, the car will still brake hard when you release the trigger. If this ends up bothering you, you can open the car and disconnect the chip, and reconnect the pickup directly to the motor. The plugs should allow it to be done easily without any tools.

  • @ScalextricDigital
    @ScalextricDigital  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes. Any Carrera D132 or D124 car has an analog mode. Put the car on the analog track and pull the trigger three times. It should then work like an analog car. If it does not, either turn the car around and try again, or flip the polarity switch on the bottom and then try again (but not both)

    Would be good to explain the use of yellow flag mode . Whats it used for in Scalextric ? . I like both your videos very useful >cheers Paul

    @adrianmole7526 There is no drop down in the Prog screen. Check out the first video "basic mode" for a quick run down on programming cars. Of course, that only applies to digital mode/cars. You can't program analog cars, so it's always car 1=lane 1 and car 2=lane 2

  • @ScalextricDigital
    @ScalextricDigital  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    In that mode, it's just like an analog car... therefore requiring analog track and analog controllers. You could make it go with a 9v battery if you wanted to.

  • @ScalextricDigital
    @ScalextricDigital  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, I hadn't thought of this before, but I just verified that PROG does NOT work in analog mode. Really, why would it, since analog cars have no chips to program? :) If all you've got are analog cars, then it will be a lot cheaper to just get the other power supply so you can use both lanes at once. There are cheaper options, though. Check slotcarillustrated or slotforum digital forums for suggestions on alternative power supplies that are cheaper in many cases.

  • @ScalextricDigital
    @ScalextricDigital  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @pauloasis Yes, Yellow Flag mode will be included in a future video. For SSD, it means that cars slow or stop when someone crashes. They indicate/activate it by using their brake button. There are other features in that set of options, all of which I will be describing the use of.

  • @ScalextricDigital
    @ScalextricDigital  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @woolfer98 If the digital car is capable of running on an analog track, yes. SSD cars will run on analog tracks just fine, though without brakes. Carrera digital cars also have a programmable analog running mode. I don't think any other digital cars will work on standard analog tracks, or in this case, a Scalextric track in analog mode with the APB. Note that the analog cars will just sit there and make a buzzing noise if the track is in digital mode. No lane changing in analog mode, of course.

    For analogue cars I should add

  • @ScalextricDigital
    @ScalextricDigital  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @stackthemcorrectly I've read about some people being able to use one lane analog with odd crossovers and uncut curved lane changers without incident, but the most likely result is that the C7042 will complain at you and go into safe mode every time you pull the throttle trigger. It won't hurt to try, though. If it lets you do it, then great! If not, then you know what to do to fix it.

  • @ScalextricDigital
    @ScalextricDigital  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @adrianmole7526 The copper strips don't effect the action of the flippers at ALL. Even if you cut them wrong, the flippers would still work, you'd only have no power for part of the track. If the flippers aren't flipping for DIGITAL cars when the PB is in DIGITAL mode, then there's something else wrong. Lane changing will not work in analog mode, even if the cars have digital chips, and even if you are using both lanes.

  • @adrianmole7526

    Helpful set of videos. Can help me. My set up is a Digital Sport track, with the new C7042 power base. I have amended the tracks which allow switching lanes etc & set it to analog etc. I have only one power base with another on order. When I go to the Prog function to set cards, it doesn't give me a drop down menu. Logically I assume that is because i have only one lane in operation. Will the drop down work when the next lane opens up

  • @adrianmole7526
    @adrianmole7526 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok. SO i have now put some chips in all the cars and Prog works, as do both lanes. I also followed your advice and on the tracks with the changing lanes I cut the copper strip so that I could also use it on analog as I understood it would still work on digital. But now the tracks for lane changing don't work! How did you get them to work having cut the copper strip? Do you need to program then again through the base?

  • @hellcatdave1
    @hellcatdave1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the reply! Do they require digital throttles or can I use my analog?

  • @adrianmole7526
    @adrianmole7526 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks. helpful. so when i get two lanes up and running I should be able to show car 2

  • @adrianmole7526
    @adrianmole7526 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks. yes, pressing the down key on all the other options has the expected result to set platforms, or car stop or start etc. Its just on Prog that it hangs. SO no I don't get "Press brake to program car ID"
    Also - are you saying if I buy DPR plugs and therefore move to digital cars, then both lanes will work and I don't need to spend another £40 quid on a an additional power supply?

  • @ScalextricDigital
    @ScalextricDigital  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @adrianmole7526 when you press down when the screen says "prog" then it should switch to a screen saying something like "Press brake to program car ID". You should be able to reprogram cars to any ID with only one power supply. The second supply is only necessary for 2 lane analog and for running 4 or more cars at the same time.
    Does pressing the down arrow on other screens have the expected result, like for changing settings in the Platform options?

    Excuse, do you know if you can use the 4 carpower base in analog mode?
    what i mean is to have on another section of the track an analog conection part like the SCX Pitbox and leave the 4 car powerbase as a simple half straight.
    if i want to play digital i plug the 4 car powerbase and if i want to play analog the SCX pitbox. can i do this or it will damage the 4 car powerbase somehow?

  • @adrianmole7526
    @adrianmole7526 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    sorry to add. I guess what I meant - when I watched video 1 and when I press the down key on Prog nothing happens. but I think you have answered it. I need two lanes up and running with two power cables and DPR plugs and then I when I press down I should be able to individually be able to program upto 6 cars. Can you confirm ?

  • @speedtoast
    @speedtoast 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    if i don't cut the strips on lane changers, use only one power supply in analog mode, am i right in thinking i will be able to use 1 car on either lane withou damaging the PB? or will i upset/confuse it?

    Do Carrera digitals (their BMW Z4 preferably) work on analogue tracks? Thanks

  • @TheTimmyH
    @TheTimmyH 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing that isn't too clear...are straight lane changers operational in analogue mode?

    • @ggaub
      @ggaub 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, they are operational. The trick is getting a car to trigger them. An analog car has no chip and no way to tell the lane changer to flip. A digital car that works on DC voltage (oXigen, or Scorpius) would be able to trigger the lane changer, though. As this video shows, making the lane changer work for analog cars would be silly... they would then be controlled by the other lane's controller. These are not like analog X tracks where the cars swap lanes. If you want that, you'd need to use standard analog crossovers such as the racing curve crossovers shown in this video.

  • @ScalextricDigital
    @ScalextricDigital  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @adrianmole7526 If you put digital chips in your cars, though, you can run in digital mode on both lanes, up to 3 cars on one PSU. Do you have any digital cars, or are you using this as your power and control for an analog track?

    Question..... I run a Scalextric C7042 PB ( updated ) + a pit pro with pit lane ( full track is 75 feet long )....Is there any importance if my pit lane / pit pro is 20 feet away from the PB to being read by SSDC or RCS64 ?? Because neither of these two program can't see or detect my pit pro ... my pit pro works fine , lights red / green , sound etc....
    If you have any solution it would be great to ear about.....
    Many thanks....Martin.....

    • @ggaub
      @ggaub 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the tower is showing the lights go out when you cross the sensors, then it's working fine. Do the RMS register laps and things? If so, then the Pit Pro should also be working unless the program settings are wrong, because it's the same driver for both the APB cable and the Pit-Pro cable. What are your pit settings for each program?

    • @Chopper059
      @Chopper059 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks , I did move my pit lane to the very next of the PB ( start / finish )... Works the same....neither of the SSDC or RCS64 can see / read my pit pro...It is probably a com port problem ....( need to see 2 com port to get it right , and I can only see one at a time )... otherwise both programs work fine , digital / analogue mode...just stuck with my not seeing pit pro....
      If somebody-else have a solution , feel free....

    • @ggaub
      @ggaub 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely a com port issue, then. It can't hurt to try and load in the drivers again.

    So if you have an analogue track you can't use the advanced features or basic mode?

    • @ScalextricDigital
      @ScalextricDigital  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry if that was not clear in the video. Analog mode is a part of Advanced mode options, so all options are available to analog racing, even pace cars! I'm not sure if you can switch back to basic mode without reverting to digital control, though. I'll have to check on that and get back to you.

    • @ScalextricDigital
      @ScalextricDigital  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK, I verified that once you switch to Analog mode, you can power down and power up the base and it will stay in analog mode. You can leave it in Pro mode, or switch back to Basic mode during startup, and it will remain analog.
      Please note that I did this test with firmware v1.09, which can be downloaded and installed for free from ssdc.jackaments.com/firmware The only thing you need to do this is the PC cable, which is specially made for the C7042 by third parties, and can be found on ebay, some retailers, and directly from the makers on various slot car forums. The SSDC site I already mentioned also has a page about cables. The firmware update is extremely useful, and highly recommended. Hornby will also upgrade the firmware if you send in a base that is having problems of any kind.

    After having my worst experience with C8310 and the accompaning PC software I have not been using my Scalextric for a couple of years. Bad quality!
    Suddently Scalextric come with a solution: Advanced Digital 6 Car Powerbase (C7042) - using words like USB, open source, AND compatible with digital/analog racing. GREAT!
    After some reseach (not information from Scalextric) I found out I needed two new digital controlers to fit (C7042) (not information from Scalextric).
    Then there is NO power supply in the kit!!! (not information from Scalextric)
    After buying one (the manual says two power supplies for 4 lanes and up) I find out that you need two power suppliers just to a simple analog race...
    The conclusion is:
    If you invest in Advanced Digital 6 Car Powerbase (C7042) you should expect to triple the investment before you even can use it. And I dont know, I have only one power supplie, thinking bying one more or letting the whole deal go back and never race again :-(
    Thank you Scalextric

    • @ggaub
      @ggaub 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! You moved from SportWorld to the APB? That's a bit of a jump. First off, you don't need two power supplies. You can put a dummy plug into the other port and both lanes will draw power from the one supply. Second, you don't need the expensive Scalextric brand supplies. You can get cheap laptop power supplies (for Toshiba laptops) that have the right plug, and right output voltage to work just fine. Also, the APB is packaged as an upgrade for an existing SSD set, not as a "ready to race" power base. The 4 car digital sets that it is marketed as an upgrade for already provide the power supplies, controllers, track, and all, to use the APB.
      I didn't realize that the SportWorld controllers would not work with the SSD system, but I'm not surprised that that information. But, it's clear that the APB does not include anything other than the base and tower, and that other things would be needed.
      Don't ditch your APB. Put a dummy plug into the other port, or get a couple cheap laptop power supplies meant for Toshiba laptops. You'll be good to go for your analog racing fun, and can even get the PC cable for top of the line race management with racing simulations like tire wear and weather.

      Thank you for the answer and solutions. They should be shouted out loud :-)
      I'm just a normal guy who buy a box with a nice picture on the front and nice features on the back (Advanced Digital 6 Car Powerbase (C7042)). I expect it to work. OK, power supplies are not included but needing two or a dummy plug for analog racing was a surprise. The situation is that my brother in law and me are a little old school (keeping the lanes separate) but having pit stops, yellow flags and the strategy behind is appealing having taste from C8310 - the few times it worked. When I get it up and running i'll post you my impressions :-)
      Regards Thor.
