    (6:58) Lack of quality glass… The Leica 10-25mm/1.7 it’s compliment the 25-50mm/1.7 are realistically all one really needs, as they give you a 35mm equivalent of 20-100mm @ 1.7. As for primes, the Leica 42.5mm/1.2 is one of the best glass the format has to offer, and optically the M.Zuiko 75mm/1.8 is objectively the best…
    Admittedly, I do not own the 42.5mm Nocticron, however, I do own a couple M.Zuiko Pro primes such as the 17mm/1.2 and the 45mm/1.2. Which are phenomenal and great in low light. The M.Zuiko Pro series of lenses including their zooms with their constant apertures of 2.8 are really second to none, and oddly enough, more conducive for video than the native Lumix Leica series, especially considering Olympus/OM does not really focus on video. All M.Zuiko Pro lenses have the focus clutch rings…
    If I am trying to keep it minimal, the Leica 10-25mm/1.7 and the M.Zuiko Pro 45mm/1.2 (or 75mm/1.8) are a great pair. If we take out the 25-50mm/1.7, it is likely paired with the Leica 9mm/1.7. Maybe one day I will add the Leica 12mm/1.4 to the arsenal. The Leica 15mm/ 1.7 is a very good lenses too.
    We also have a pair of Voigtländer Noktons 17mm/0.95 & 25mm/0.95. We lack the 10mm/0.95 and 42.5mm/0.95. Sigma has the ART Series primes 16mm/1.4, 30mm/1.4 and the 56mm/1.4, we don’t own.
    Sirui even has a set of Anamorphic lenses we have been eyeing. Plus many more third party vendors. So, you can’t be serious when you imply there is a dearth of good glass for the system amoungst the myriad of choices. Not to mention lenses for the system seem to spring out of thin air from new companies all the time. Then there is the issue of adapted lenses too. The Sigma ART 18-35mm/1.8 paired with a Speedbooster is legendary…
    Gear consists of the Lumix GH5II + Atomos Ninja V (5TB) + Panasonic DMW-XLR1, which is ample and almost perfect. (Zoom H6 and H8 are also at the ready)
    🤔

    Previous GH4 owner, previous GH5 owner, previous GH6 owner...but current S52 owner... And I have to say, there are a couple things that I enjoyed more on the GH6 (setup) and frame rates / codecs, and stabilization...than I do on the S52 but, and huge BUT...the image quality out of the S52 has been better to me / for me. Just a more solid / put together / not noisey / not gonna fall apart image. Also in a lot of low light scenarios and having to pump the ISO up has not been an issue. Would I get a GH6 again as a B-cam ? Maybe. But, full sensor glass is probably the direction I need to keep moving in. Anyway, new video on my page w/ the S52.

    I was using an older full frame Sony for video (a7r3), got a GH6, started using the dynamic range boost and v-log, haven’t even considered going back to the Sony. a7r3 doesn’t have 10bit, so maybe that is the biggest difference, but what difference does it make if I am 100% satisfied with my Lumix MFT? Lenses are smaller and a fraction of the cost for comparable quality: MFT for me!

I hope Panasonic and Olympus make more f1.7-f2 zoom lens. F2.8 just not enough for low light on m4/3 sensor. Not to mention those f4 zoom lens. Still in love with mft but shooting lately more with 6Korg 24-105 F4 L is use…this combo is all I need handheld image fantastic and the usual BM problems…
    About GH6 I am missing there the battery life of S5 org and GH5s which really good…ok vmount or other batterie solution are avaible.
    About DR in braw BMPCC4K still after 5 years is unbeaten…and has a more natural image imho…
    I like your teasing controversial video about the Gh6…but I am even more interested about the 12K Olpf you have in trial…

Its got so much options im blown away ... the other thing is the AF may not be the best in the world but coming from BMPcc4k its a big upgrade and you can pull focus . But i think the PD MOVIE Lidar solves that issue for both my cameras... The G9 just came out but i know there are features it cannot do like the GH6 internal Pro Res for one. As i waited for my GH6 to get to me from half way around the world...I was in B&H getting my lens and stopped in the Pannsonic booth and checked out the. GH^6 and ask will they update it with BRAW like the 5S II they rep said he dont know ....man i few back to Argentina and seen it was released that same day i was in B&H if i knew that video Assist would be come home with me.

Cropping digs into the quality though and it's noticeable. I mostly would shoot C4K60 on it though. My MacBook gets slammed when I edit those though. Thats with a M1 Pro chip in it. Not a problem at C4K30, the Mac handles that just fine. 5.8K30, I've seen dropped frames on the Mac though.

    Awesome video about an awesome camera. Thing is, my computer can't handle some of the more advanced codecs on the GH6, like the 10 bit 4:2:2 files, can't even open some of them in DaVinci Resolve. What computer do you use, James, to edit your GH6 video files with the advanced codecs? I was thinking of getting a Mac Studio, which would be a big upgrade from my i5 Windows desktop, but I'm not sure even Apple's M2 chip can decode those files. I don't want to have to do proxy files or transcoding. Anyway, I agree with your opinion on the GH6.

      So no top end specs
      Regarding the new Macs they can decode and playback those files without breaking a sweat, the issue, especially with Davinci Resolve, is you may run into playback issues once you start grading and using the more intense affects as Resolve is very heavy on GPU and the ram.

    The best camera is the one you have on you. But… the GH6 is not Panasonic’s best camera for video… why?
    • That tiny M43 sensor has horrible low-light performance.
    • The dynamic range does not measure up to Panasonic’s Full Frame offering.
    • While the full frame S5II does crop in for high frame rate recording… it crops into S35. Which is still more than twice the size of the tiny M43 sensor in the GH6.
    Pro Tip: If you want to avoid a change in FOV when shooting with a S5II/X… simply film in S35 for all the footage. You will still have better low-light performance and a wider FOV.

    • @JamesJacksonFilmz
      @JamesJacksonFilmz  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I find myself not agreeing with you in regards to the low light performance. Is it A7 level no. Is it not as good as the full frame in low light? Yes. But it’s not bad. I’ve filmed in plenty of low light situations and it was enough.
      That to me says it’s the skills of lighting of the shooter not the camera. Same with dynamic range. To be honest I been feeling that how we value dynamic range is vastly overrated. Any camera today has good enough dynamic range regardless of sensor size. It’s more important on your skills with lighting.

    • @angryrabbitproductions1690
      @angryrabbitproductions1690 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some cameras, a very forgiving in high dynamic range situations. This can save you time and money. Sure you could add ND to windows, or blast your lights to overcome window being blown out. But if your camera just has the dynamic range, well those steps aren’t necessary. A place where dynamic range really hurts is outside… when you don’t have control over different elements such as the sky. Watch any movie, you’ll notice, they almost never clip the highlights, even in the brightest scenes. It’s a telltale sign of a cheap production when the highlights are clipped. Nothing screams “amateur” quite like clipped highlights. So that said, I don’t think dynamic range is overrated; Maybe in a studio? But not out in the world at large.
      You can brush off all the points I made, by saying you have workarounds. But are these still not advantages that the S5IIX has over the GH6? Imo, the points where the GH6 has the upper hand are less significant that the things it lacks when compared to the S5IIX. Every time you frame up a shot, you miss the shallower dof, wider FOV etc. You no longer have the option to film in either S35 or Full Frame… just M43… all of the time. I’m not saying the GH6 isn’t a great camera… but in the company of the S5IIX, it’s just not enough to justify its purchase over the full frame model.

    • @JamesJacksonFilmz
      @JamesJacksonFilmz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@angryrabbitproductions1690 I hear you and everything you say is true. However with the DRBM that doesn’t apply to the Gh6. I’ve shot constantly outside and was able to keep both the highlights and shadows. I’m fact, I just got done shooting a real estate video with the Gh6 and was not using any additional lights and was able to keep both the highlights and the shadows.
      I’ve already made a video where the Gh6 doesn’t need a lot of light to keep everything in range. We will just agree to disagree. I just find the areas the Gh6 sore far more important than DR or low light as it doesn’t take much to overcome those advantages.
      Yes the areas you mention are better on the full frame but honestly they are not that big of an advantage. The Dr is really barely a one stop difference which you can make up a simple 60w light that can power over batteries.
      And shallow depth of field is not a problem with the sensor but the majority of lenses in MfT field. There are lenses out there where you can easily get SDOF with a Gh6 but you have to know which ones to get.

    • @adrianbystron9490
      @adrianbystron9490 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@angryrabbitproductions1690What you think about speedboosters? You have with them wider field of view, and you can choose 0.71 or 0.64 speedbooster. It cost money, but with them you can have three different options, and they give you better low light and in my opinion more filmic look.
      Also with speedbosters in 4K 60 fps you have wider FOV than S5IIX or S1H has.
      I think GH6 is the best B-Camera for S5IIX - same colour, same battery, same menu, both can shoot BRAW and Prores Raw, both can use EF or PL lenses.

    • @angryrabbitproductions1690
      @angryrabbitproductions1690 ปีที่แล้ว

      I owned five GH5S bodies a few years ago. And they served me well. But back then they made for a much more compelling case than today with the availability of the S5II/X. No need for focal reducers (SpeedBooster is a Metabones trademark) you have the extra light gathering, shallower DOF and flexibility to shoot full frame or S35 just by switching modes. I don’t think focal reducers make the image look more filmic. But if you want to soften the digital look, just add a Tiffen Soft FX filter. The price is simply two close to make the case for the M43 body. If it was $1k-1200… maybe. But at $1800 out the door… without a lens, it just makes no sense.
      Oh, and less I forget… AUTO-FOCUS on the S5II/X actually works… well!
      The best B-Cam to the S5II/X is…another S5II/X.

    I had most of Panasonic cameras including FF. In my opinion, the GH6 is maybe not their best camera for multiple reasons :
    - Issue with the sensor (streaking issue).
    - Different detail rendering (new engine), some people don't like it.
    - No 6K photo, no I Dynamic, no I resolution.
    - IBIS only slightly better than GH5 and worse at some focal lenght.
    - Crop inside the image in 5,7K.
    - AF still very bad and much worse in Open Gate than the GH5 with most lenses. Also, the camera has a big issue with focus accuracy in video with low frame rate (below 48fps) in 4K/C4K and 5,7K, no issue with the GH5.
    It's a shame because the GH6 has fantastic colors, nicer than the S5II, it has good IBIS and also 4K 120fps.

      -I don’t necessarily find the detail level of the GH5 really appealing. It was too sharp for my liking and felt unnatural. But only MO of course.
      -i can understand from a hybrid shooters perspective why these maybe an issue, but I’m only talking from a video perspective as I have no interest in the photo side
