Julia Delaney was one of my first Irish tunes learnt when I was having lessons. When I was in Ireland at fiddle school the tutor said do you know what a Julia Delaney is? It is a pint of Guinness! Now my favourite drink to play Irish tunes to. I like to talk about music as well as play it. I love listening to you explain every step of your playing. I can't do as well as you my speaking on my videos is full um s and ah s my playing is sometimes hesitant as well. Adam Beanstock look up my name is you want to listen to me. Adam Beanstock.

Thank you so much, Adam! I still fight the ums and ahs myself haha. I didn't know that about Julia Delaney, thank you for sharing! You're so right, it's fun to talk about the music in addition to playing it. Cheers!

Crann is a open note ornament four for example D note with 3 cuts
Open D note cut with E on to D note Cut with F# on to D note cut with E on to D note.
Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle by Grey Larsen .
The Crann is an orament that came from Uilleann piping tradition. It makes use only of cut notes . no strikes. The long crann is a comprised of four slurred notes: an eighth note, two sixteenth notes, and another eighth note. The second. third and fourth notes are cut. see chapter 16.There are short Crann too.
See Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle by Grey Larsen . Jenny O'Connor ...playing The Gael, "The Last of the Mohicans". She dose Long Cranns within this tune

finding where an approrpriate space to add the ornament is still a mystery..i understand it can be how one is feeling the tune..but I mean general guide lines like " a string of 4 notes on a reel one can do such and such "

I wish it were as easy as giving one guide that would apply to all reels... however, I will say if you're working with a dotted quarter note, those tend to be great places to put an ornament! If you have two of the same notes next to each other, a cut is a good option. And a little slide up to an F# on the E string never hurt -- so long as it doesn't delay your rhythm too much!

Hi Hannah :) I enjoy your video's:) I'm a fellow Michigander living in Georgia for the last 13 yrs.
Conor O'Neill's in Ann Arbor , Mich had Irish music sessions on Sunday's . I don't know if they still do sessions specially after all this Craziness for the last 2 yrs. I haven't been up that way for 9 yrs.
Great Folks at the Irish sessions up there. I only remember one Girl Colleen 'Man she can play. I don't know if you hung out there or not or had the chance too hang out at Elderly Instrument in Lansing, Mi ?
Check out Neil Woodward, Michigan's Troubadour he great I knew him yrs.......
I just order 150 Hot Tunes for Fiddle & Mandolin from Elderly Instrument it's fun learning these old tunes

What a coincidence! Georgia was my home before Michigan :D. I spent my high school years in Marietta. I've heard that the Conor O'Neill sessions are off and on, but I do plan to check them out at some point! Great to meet a fellow Michigander, and so happy to hear you enjoy the videos!
