What other reels would you like emphasis tips for?

Your playing is flawless, and your tips are so helpful and encouraging. One reel I continue to struggle with is Red Crow. Could you please add some emphasis tips for it? We do play Lady Anne Montgomery in our weekly sessions in Harrisonburg VA. Thanks, Hannah! 🎻☘️

Oh my goodness, you're very kind! Thanks so much! I don't play the Red Crow myself, but I recognize it to hear -- I think if you can bring out the parts of the melody that are unexpected (i.e. the F natural in the B part) by leaning into that note a tad more without losing your rhythmic groove, that's going to work well in this tune. Also on the flip side there's a bit of syncopation in the start of the B part that you may be tempted to over emphasize, but I'm curious how it would sound to just let the notes themselves created that contrast without pulling the bow at different speeds throughout those first couple bars!

@@HannahHarrisCeol Thank you so much for your suggestions. This is one of my favorite reels to play though it is also one of the most challenging. I’m so impressed by your transition into Irish Trad from classical. I am mostly self-trained and have always played by ear. I began playing the fiddle at the age of 50. Now I am 71 and love playing Old Time Appalachian and Irish Trad in informal jams and sessions. Thank you for your wonderful channel.

@@fiddleplayer51 You are so welcome!! Love hearing about how you found this music -- and you're in a great part of the world for it :D.

Good ideas! How about Harvest Home?

Thanks "coz" :D - for Harvest Home, I'd focus on the main melody and the extra triplets are more elaborating a more basic line (especially in the B part). A bit of slurred bowing emphasis in the second half of A, and keep the string crossing nice and bouncy.

Fabulous playing, sounds so really Irish and I wish I could do the same too; hopefully I will be able to one day play like you.🙂

Appreciate you so much, Neil and would love to help you reach your full fiddling potential! Definitely would encourage you to take advantage of my Free Fiddle Tip Vault (bit.ly/3AMq8Er) -- I tend to put all the tidbits on improving my sound/style I've picked up over the years there! And of course, happy to answer any questions. :)
