Props to the organist! Love an organist that does not overplay a song and the singers. He knows when to work his magic in the right places but not compete with the singing. Some musicians think it's all about them and overplay to the point they no longer are accompanying the vocalist or singers. He shows his talents at the right time and places in the song.
Very accurate & comprehensive comment. The only other thing that sometimes hinders SOME (Not All) Church musicians is when they have a haughty, prideful & condescending attitude & mentality!!! But we’re ALL HUMAN BEINGS & we ALL HAVE OUR STRUGGLES, so I understand & it is what it is!!! 🤷🏽♂️😳😂

I like this brother’s organ playing because in all of his skillful improvisation, technique and sound combinations, HE IS PLAYING THE MELODY SO WE CAN RECOGNIZE THE SONG! To me, this attribute is critical to anointed playing. Now, when you are accompanying a soloist, group, choir, or congregation, it’s OK to orchestrate your playing with some improvisation. However, metaphorically speaking, you should always retain the “bones” of the song along with other parts of fancy stuff. I taught my last piano 🎹 student this important principle. 👊🏽❤️👊🏽

i remember meachum when he directed at saint paul on the north side under John E Gunns.. didnt know he was down at Bethel down town. I don't know who this crew is down at bethel, but that crew over at Gunns church back in the day.... whew!!!!!!
Can't tell if that is a B3 or a C3, but the organist clearly knows the instrument. He is adjusting the slides on an almost measure by measure basis. I like that it has the full AGO pedal board. AGO=American Guild of Organist's. Good Job! Long time organ lover wishing I had one. Someday....Someday.
