People forget that this was a hit before it became globally known as The Golden Girls theme song.
I’ve never heard this version, only the one from The Golden Girls. He had a song called “Lonely Boy” that I LOVED! It came out when I was 7 or 8 and I need to go listen to it again. Lol
"Lonely Boy" was a cool song that brings back such fun memories from the 70's.

I did a tribute to a long time friend of mine a Month ago and I played this Andrew Gold song for her...She loved it so much...Thank you both for reacting to this classic.
Andrew Gold was a singer, songwriter & record producer of pop/soft rock music in the 70's. Gold played on many records by other artists, most notably Linda Ronstadt. He had some good songs on his own such as "Lonely Boy", "Thank You for Being A Friend" (theme for "The Golden Girls"), "Never Let Her Slip Away" etc. He died in 2011 at the age of 59.
I love the version by the woman who sings the opening of the Golden Girls!
He played in the group with Linda Ronstadt and this was a solo later passed with cancer. Great song!

I remember this one from 1977. It followed Andrew's e arlier hit, "Lonely Boy". The album was called "What's Wrong With This Picture?". Of course, the song became famous for being the theme to "The Golden Girls", but I always loved Andrew's version. Great reaction! Friends are hard to come by.
When he played music he did it with feelings he did it from family past great music for everyone
I also had no idea The Golden Girls song came from an actual original song. Hearing this makes my heart burst from the nostalgia. Brings me back to high school when I used to watch the show religiously. I also love that BJ did the Carlton dance cause The Fresh Prince of Belair was from that same period. Remember when Will Smith was still likeable?

So refreshing to hear the whole song. I started turning off "The Golden Girls" when I heard this because I always liked the whole song and didn't want to hear the abbreviated version for the thousandth time.
Gold was the lead guitarist for Ronstadt during her Pop Rock phase in the seventies……..she was the top female vocalist during that time….before she went into many other genres……Spanish/Mexican, Classical even acted in the theaters….pure talent….inducted by the Eagles into the Music Hall of Fame….

Aside from being used as the theme to "The Golden Girls," this original version was the 54th song ever played on MTV (this unique station that played music videos, now only exists in name but plays no music.)

Andrew who is no longer with us was an extremely talented multi instrumentalist Producer. He was Lead Guitarist with Linda Ronstadt and for awhile her Music Manager. He had the rare ability of listening to an instrument once and being to play it. He recorded some fantastic albums. Also did a number of Albums with Graham Gouldman ( 10cc) under the name of Wax brilliant stuff.
