I have a 1969 coupe 427/390 4 spd side exhaust original paint & drivetrain car that I purchased for $25k in 2004 with 56k documented miles. It has been completely mechanically rebuilt & would easily receive NCRS Top Flight or Bloomington Gold awards. I drive it whenever I feel like and had it up to 120 mph on Homestead Speedway. Best of both worlds.
Different strokes for different folks. I have a friend that bought a 1985 PROTOTYPE Z/28 Camaro with 99 miles on it. Still has the "Dealer Must Remove" plastic on the seats and floor mats. It's quite unique. It has a console with a HUGE analog clock. He simply lets it sit. Nice to look at, but I would want to drive it.
Just saying - I've owned 11 of them from a '62 on up. Driving about an average of 200 miles a week for only 6 months out of the year. Collectors have many cars and can sit and LOOK at them. It IS nice to take them out and give them some EXERCISE though. Again, I'm just an average Vette owner. Collectors are a whole 'nother breed. $$$$$, mainly.
WOW!!! I ❤️ the C2’s!!! I have a 1967 L79 Coupe. It’s a Sunfire Yellow with a 4 speed. A California car since new. And it’s a 3-time NCRS top flight award winner. My dream car!!
The original owner was brillant in storing this car, yet did drive it from time to time. Little did he know it would ever sell for this amount of money. The problem is you cannot drive it. Driving it will kill the originality. A true piece of our history when this country wasn't the laughing stock of the world. Go drive your stupid Hondas.
I'm good with all people driving and collecting and being interested in whatever kind of car they want and/or can afford. But, wouldn't it be more fun to drive the damn thing? I suppose most people won't believe me, but I have a 1967 Corvette coupe with a 427 solid lifter engine AND I DRIVE IT.
Barry - I am totally with you! My mom has this car's "twin" and she drives it! I can't imagine having cars like these and not putting the rubber to the road, and hearing the engine purr!
Shane Hadd Shane, I sort of understand your point, but I say again: my '67 has about 66,000 miles on the odometer, because it's a car and I LIKE TO DRIVE IT.
Barry Abrahams, I have a small collection of cars. One of which is a 1970 Hemi Challenger R/T. That car is driven like they were supposed to be when they were born. I recently picked up a 2013 Shelby GT350. You can click on my avatar and see how it's treated on its first test run. I'm in the passenger seat with the vice president of Shelby American driving. This is before I change the color on the stripes and added the performance kit, which brought it up to 700 hp at the crank and a wide-body kit. I may not be able to drive. But I still have a blast in the copilot seat. I like Jay Leno's philosophy the most. Restore them to 100 points. Drive them until they get to 75 to 50. Then restored again. Not exactly my budget type of thinking. But if you can afford it. That's definitely the way to do it. Keep enjoying the cars. Search for 2013 Shelby GT350 and you can see a video of the fall burnout. It's worth the two minutes.
@@barryabrahams1861 With this amount of money, you could buy many covettes, and a house as well. Its just not thrilling enough to not chose the second option.
Maybe that car would be worth $725,000., IF it had the RPO L89, (aluminum heads vs. cast iron. - 17 made). That was a $500. option, back in the day, - regarded as not worth the extra money, at that time. Today, that rare option, is worth about 250K more.
add if he knew enough to ask for the L88 , which was available but not offered , you needed to know about it as it was designed for racers, you could add another 4 million.....they only sold a dozen or so and the most expensive corvette ever sold is one of the, a red one for 3.5 million.
Why can't I find one of these in a barn??? All my classics cost me $50-75K to restore!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 My closest thing to this, is one of my 56 f100 trucks, I bought in Arizona with 58,000 original miles, but not in pristine condition, but damn nice!!!👍😎
A bargain price, since the same year corvette, but with the L88 engine, sold for 3.5 million. This one still has a powerful engine and easier to handle..
I inherited 5 million, and I decided to change the lives of villagers in Mindanao Philippines. I spent 2 million drilling wells, so each village could have fresh drinking water.....I'm still spending, because changing people's lives is an addiction.....seriously. ❤
Closer to $650K. "Sellers pay a $350 to $1,000 consignment entry fee plus a seller's commission of 6%. On a No Reserve auction the seller's commission is 10%. Seller's commission is only charged if the vehicle is sold and selling at No Reserve results in a 50% discount on your consignment entry fee." So he lifted the reserve so he owes 10% to Mecum plus the consignment fee.
Although it would be cool to have, I wouldn't necessarily want this car. Why get a car that driving it would ruin it. With a car this original, the least miles the better.
Anyone notice how those mecum people put their grubby meathooks on & around the sellers and get right in their faces like their drunken best buddies ? just unprofessional backwoods hicks.
murderer74 cuando dicen reserve is off significa que los dueños del carro esta pidiendo una cierta cantidad para poder venderlo en este caso fueron 725,000.00 dolars

Beautiful corvette! One of the best corvettes made!
1963 to 1967 Corvettes are the best looking ever. The worst looking Vetts are the new ones, which to me look European instead of American.
