Had to rewind that Bullet Bill animation a few times to check I wasn't imagining it - whoever was behind that, you absolutely made my weekend. Tis the little things.
Once again, OX demonstrates a complete and total understanding of the offside rule, which as we all know is when a player enters the opposing zone before the puck.
The idea of a new manager turning up for his first day, sitting all the players down and explaining the offside rule while they look on confused is very funny.
When I picture these videos being written, I imagine a montage where Luke and Ellen are wearing lab coats and goggles. They’re standing in front of a whiteboard trying to think of ideas. Luke writes “Talk about new video game” on the whiteboard. Furious, Ellen wipes it off the board and starts beating Luke with a clipboard. She then writes “Choose your own adventure: Animal Crossing murder mystery”. Luke goes to wipe it off but before he can, the beating continues.
Occasionally he pretends to go along with it, but then he sneaks into the lab after hours and switches the contents of the envelope labled "Ellen's genius plan for SotW" with a Pokémon Magazine.
Great picks, coach. Daisy is a born athlete, Luigi is obviously brilliant, but he's gonna tire fast carrying the whole damn team on his shoulders. Plus it is the duty of any great manager to crush Toad's dreams.
Football is on going, like grains of sand through an hourglass. A ceaseless tide of football. Oh god it won't stop! its devouring all in its path! (ominous MOTD theme)
"Step 4, the branding" For a moment there, I imagined Luke talking to his football squad about the importance of branding, with a hot iron in his hands. Then I realized its the marketing version of it.
I must admit, I prefer the offside rule in ice hockey - in that game, there are lines separating the play area into thirds, and forwards are not permitted to be over that line when someone on their team brings the puck over that line (either keeping t to themselves or passing forward across the line. It does allow for some technicalities in terms of pass starting vs receiving (I don't know the details on that), but it's extremely clear where that line is, making it much easier for everyone involved to keep track of the line. And once you're within that third of the ice rink, teams are allowed to maneuver however they wish. Of course, with football's enormous net, I can imagine allowing a pass to a player who has gotten past the defenders being an excessively powerful play. Hockey nets are small enough that a lone goaltender (who often keeps extremely close to the net) has decent odds of blocking a shot even without a defender, particularly if the defender is close enough to keep them from setting up a perfect shot.
Nook Inc would make you pay for your uniforms, field rental fees, etc. Luke has created a gameplay loop where the players must now play football in order to pay off their debts to their sponsor.
This had me in absolute tears. Thank you so much. As someone who loves the channel, football and mario this was the video i never knew i needed. I'd like to point out too, this humour is the type of thing you find in Ted lasso. American who knows nothing about football becomes a premier league manager. Fantastic show and highly recommended.
I really miss the adorable and hilarious skits that Ellen and Luke use to do at the start of the older episodes. Regardless, I love these two and could watch them talk about almost anything
as someone who's not only never watched football, but also doesn't know anyone who watches football, and doesn't understand football past "get ball in goal": this was incredibly funny.
When Ellen asked Luke to explain the offside rule my FIRST thought was - oh easy just explain it like they did to Keira Knightley's mum in Bend It Like Beckham (which is the only reason I vaguely know it) 😂
Watching somebody regardless of football experience trying to explain the offside rule will always be funny. The figures are definitely a step up from the salt, pepper, ketchup and vinegar diagram though haha.
that 1st substitution was brilliant 10/10 management lol let me know when the season starts and i'll bring my american hype to every game for you and your team Luke, let's go
Today I woke up (good start - or worst start), went for walk to grab a coffee and breakfast sammie, then laughed for 15 minutes and had a great time watching this video. Thanks all!
Omg!! Bullet Bill moving the football off the sofa, that was so satisfying!! I thought, that would be so good if they did that, but it'll never happen. But then IT DID!!
In the footage you can see that Rosalina is literally flying around the field. Not that I'm against it, but is that allowed? And couldn't she just grab the ball between her feet and fly over the opposing team?
this is just ellen and jon forcing luke to engage in something they clearly care about and that he clearly knows very little about. in a good way of course
@ProducerJon: Every kick of it massively mattering to someone, presumably. Watch it all, all here, all the time, forever, it will never stop, the football is officially going on forever! It will never be finally decided who has won the football! There is still everything to play for, and forever to play it in!
Given Ellen’s previously mentioned aptitude for football, and Luke’s love of Mario… how could this go wrong! 😂 Now let’s watch how together… My money’s on the Mitre ball falling off the couch - there’s only room for one prop here.
"if you go into a desert environment, it's going to be very hard for a team to play." Luke showing more sense than FIFA already.
Or the people behind the Olympics
To be fair, if someone offered Luke millions of dollars to have the team play in that desert, he probably would have changed his tune a little.
@@Cudddlefish or he'd dump it at the bottom of a lake

Had a snicker fit when I saw watched that play out. =)
Distant Jane taking notes for future FIFA challenges
We putting bets on if/when Jane gets the FIFA challenge and if she wins yet?
@@Ceece20 No point taking bets on a sure thing, but could start something for whether she wins it again...
@@GriffinWolf we could take bets on how much Andy has rigged the next Xmas challenges.

if Jane doesn't play we get did more weeks of oxmas. that's how that goes right?
who ever did that bullet bill animation taking out the football at the end i salute you for your marvelous editing
Once again, OX demonstrates a complete and total understanding of the offside rule, which as we all know is when a player enters the opposing zone before the puck.
I love how Luke periodically glances at Jon for football knowledge approval throughout the entire video haha
10/10 job on whoever edited the Hammer Bro in West Ham colours.
Between that and the bullet bill pushes football gag, this was a subtly very masterfully edited video.
Luke’s look when he read “built for fun”, holding back the urge of yelling “THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FUN!”
"there's no fun in football!"
The idea of a new manager turning up for his first day, sitting all the players down and explaining the offside rule while they look on confused is very funny.
Well someone's got to explain it.
Bring on the salt shakers! 😂

Luke's poor shins...
Occasionally he pretends to go along with it, but then he sneaks into the lab after hours and switches the contents of the envelope labled "Ellen's genius plan for SotW" with a Pokémon Magazine.

"a desert environment will be hard for the teams to play in" cue the Qatar World Cup
I lost it at the point Luke cant keep the ball still and Ellen "I'm enjoying this"
3:00 - Here we see Luke Westaway, demonstrating the behaviour of a cat in an alternate universe where they dislike knocking things off of high places.
I just discovered this channel and I love it,that bullet bill animation was insane and the host are just brilliant, even my mom laugh 😂
Now I want to see the "Luke knows football" edit where he just snaps to the right answer each time.
Football is on going, like grains of sand through an hourglass. A ceaseless tide of football.
Oh god it won't stop! its devouring all in its path! (ominous MOTD theme)
This is fine by me, until American Football season and then I have to make choices.
Monster Of the Dark? Ministry Of Time Defence? Message Of The Day?
I don't know how Luke expects to win anything without popular character Ninji on his team.
"Step 4, the branding" For a moment there, I imagined Luke talking to his football squad about the importance of branding, with a hot iron in his hands. Then I realized its the marketing version of it.
Nice subtle touch with the Bullet Bill animation.
Ninji's left sat on the sub bench saying 'But I bought my own football egg!'
Didn't Ellen miss the most important question? Which Russian Oligarch is going to own your team?
Because they established with the stadium question that Peach is the one who actually owns the team. Hence the summary executions.
It's always going to be fantastic when they start on a Mitchell and Webb sketch.
The football never ends.
“It will NEVER truly be decided who has won the football”, “There’s everything to play for and FOREVER to play it in!” 😆
as bewildering as it is enjoyable, its Show of the Weekend folks

Absolutely top notch animations and cut aways today. 10/10.
I'm not really into sports, but I always love Ellen's laughter
This had me in absolute tears. Thank you so much. As someone who loves the channel, football and mario this was the video i never knew i needed.
I'd like to point out too, this humour is the type of thing you find in Ted lasso. American who knows nothing about football becomes a premier league manager. Fantastic show and highly recommended.
Good idea getting Toad out, he'd be mistaken for the ball all the time.
Well, good! Lots of penalty shots, then.
Always love to hear producer John cracking up in the background 😂👏🏼
Luke explaining the offside rule is everything I needed today, and I can't wait to get this game.
These are some of my favorite Xtra videos ever! I love how organically funny y'all are together 💕 keep up the great work and more John cam plz!
spectacular! every time its a lovely start to my morning with these amazing people!! always nice to hear Producer John lol
"Explain the offside rule."
I know what it is and I hate doing that.
Does anyone truly understand what it is?
Those are some lovely figurines, which are I assume Jon's ....glad to see Jan playing with the squad even if it's on a mat.... COYS!!
Trouble with Fire Flowers FC is that they try to walk the ball into the net.
What was Luke thinking, sending Daisy on that early?
For some reason the shadow not moving at 8:00 just makes it all the funnier.
Really loved this first episode of Luke's Football Academy
How to annoy the goalkeeper? Just say
"Okay, Boom-Boom"
I low key love that chant, another master piece luke, great job.
The ball is more "OXgreen" than "luigi green"
The Bullet Bill knocking the ball off-screen made me laugh harder than it should tbph.
I really miss the adorable and hilarious skits that Ellen and Luke use to do at the start of the older episodes.
Regardless, I love these two and could watch them talk about almost anything
Lol at the Bullet Bill animation and Luke adjusting the ball til it sat still =P
Whoever edited the ball being pushed by bullet bill, I need you to know that made me crack up.
Love this educational content, but when are we getting to the fireworks factory, I mean Choose Your Adventure book?
Brilliant episode :P almost forgot what I knew about football XD
as someone who's not only never watched football, but also doesn't know anyone who watches football, and doesn't understand football past "get ball in goal": this was incredibly funny.
infairness the Mario football game is... neither soccer nor American football. But mixes aspects of them.
Never did I ever think that I would learn what an Offside is after years of confusion because of an OXTRA video
I thought Ellen was going to mention the Women’s Euro 2022 at the start. Come on lionesses!
that 1st substitution was brilliant 10/10 management lol
let me know when the season starts and i'll bring my american hype to every game for you and your team Luke, let's go
Ellen's voicing of Yoshi is way too cute
Today I woke up (good start - or worst start), went for walk to grab a coffee and breakfast sammie, then laughed for 15 minutes and had a great time watching this video. Thanks all!
Not sure if you were allowed to swap the goalie, but I would have done so regardless. Get Wiggler in the goal. For obvious reasons.
Or Petey Piranha
Either that, or one of the big Thwomps.
Good to see you all back this weekend.
More quizzes like this please I love this lmao
Omg!! Bullet Bill moving the football off the sofa, that was so satisfying!! I thought, that would be so good if they did that, but it'll never happen. But then IT DID!!
As an Irishman, hearing Daisy described as the 'Grealish of Mario Strikers' sent me into a deep frothing rage
First couple of minutes was great as a football ⚽️ fan like Jon 😂🤣😂🤣
Daisy, a real heads up pick.
Luke is obviously a big fan of the SportsBall
I learned so much about the sports ball today.
I do not know anything about sportsball so as far as I know this is all 100% accurate.
I played so much of Mario Strikers Charged
Excited to see Fire Flower FC up in the prem with Fulham FC this season
Using Son to demonstrate the offside rule lol.
Bullet Bill slowly connecting withz then push the ball from the sofa.
Excellence.
I thought Ellen said: "friend of the show Stan Lee" 😅😂
“ F F F F F F OFF”🎵
Spoken like a true football casual Luke lmao
0:58 Bowser gasps in excitement to play the football.
Definitely less intimidating than his roar.
5 substitutions next season so we're going to need 2 more at the start of the next Show of the Weekend XD haha
Love the show! The club badge was cool.
I sympathise with Coach Luke Lasso. The offside rules seem to change slightly every season.
I don't even think the players know, anymore
Having Daisy and Rosalina on the team would be a truly broken combo, since Daisy is an eldritch horror and Rosalina is basically a god
In the footage you can see that Rosalina is literally flying around the field. Not that I'm against it, but is that allowed? And couldn't she just grab the ball between her feet and fly over the opposing team?
The OX team is so good and great chemistry
As an American, I choose to believe theyre making all of this up...
That is genuinely a great crest.
In the football I know everyone hand usage is not only allowed but encouraged
Really looking forward to the channel playing Nintendo Bloodbowl *cough* I mean Mario Strikers
Ellen’s Yoshi voice is so great!
I would shake things up. I would pick my home turf as Sarasara Land
I didn't think that a man trying to get a football to stay still for a good while would be so funny, but here we are xD
Football is it, hmm? Jumpers for goalposts? Marvellous
Luke looks like quite the young professional in this episode
For a moment there, I thought that the Vertonghen miniature had Andy's face in it
This is my favourite episode of Ted Lasso
this is just ellen and jon forcing luke to engage in something they clearly care about and that he clearly knows very little about. in a good way of course
I lost it at "F F F FFF...off" hahaha, such a hostile atmosphere in the Mushroom Kingdom stadium this season!
For the record, Son wasn’t offside in that picture as he plays for the same team as Lloris. 😏
put Ninji on the team!
My FC would've been the Mushroom Kingdom Royal 1-Uppers, and their crest would be a green mushroom with a crown encircled with gold coins.
@ProducerJon: Every kick of it massively mattering to someone, presumably. Watch it all, all here, all the time, forever, it will never stop, the football is officially going on forever! It will never be finally decided who has won the football! There is still everything to play for, and forever to play it in!
Just my absolute favourite
luke knows more about soccer then me,
and i played soccer as a kid.
I can't believe Stan Lee came back to life just to give Luke a football.
Given Ellen’s previously mentioned aptitude for football, and Luke’s love of Mario… how could this go wrong! 😂
Now let’s watch how together… My money’s on the Mitre ball falling off the couch - there’s only room for one prop here.
This made me so happy 🤣
If it's any consolation, Luke, I now have a better knowledge of the off-side rule than I did before. Not much better. But better.
UEFA Nation's League is happening and Women's Euros. Lots of football this summer.
